You could try doing it yourself. There is a step-by-step breakdown guide in General which I have used two or three times. It's easy and DIY costs much less than it would to go through a repair service.

I do believe so. The guide is very informative, has step-by-step instructions with pictures, and is full of tips ranging from purchasing the right parts to little details that may be overlooked during the process, from quite a few others who have already done it; myself included. This is the thread I'm talking about. The tools you need will more than likely come with the digitizer kit, so there really aren't any tools you would need to run out and get before doing it. Read through it and make your own determination though; I don't want to say "Yeah, do it" and have you mess it up... but I honestly think it's simple enough.
EDIT: actually, after skimming back through the thread, I notice that a lot of the commentary I mentioned wasn't there... It's still an awesome guide and I, and probably others here as well, can help answer any questions you might have about it.

The only thing that might change is you may end up getting a digitizer without a carrier logo; but as far as IMEI or Serial or anything of that sort goes, nothing will change.

Hello there
i have been on this forum for a while. Owner of Galaxy s1 international...
Since economy isnt good here on Greece i bought a T-Mobile T999 galaxy s3.
I always try to search search search to find what i need and i always have a sucess (thats why i dont have so much posts).
This time ........... i cant do anything. I am trying more than 7h now.....
I have read more than 10-20 different ways...
Root- Flass...bla bla bla etc ... nothing worked until now.
You will say go pay and get a code...
i always want to do everything by myself.
So can someone help me? Can someone give me good details on how to do it or any link that it might help me?
Thank you in advance...
Regards
PS Please dont start search forum... i have done that more than you think.....
BTW i have make a backup of efs but when i am trying to find nv_data.bin .... there is NO such a file...
WTH -.-
There is no way to manually unlock it. Since you're from Greece, you'll have to pay for it

I could be way off here as I have never dealt with the unlock codes. But I was under the impression that the code is different for every phone and is based on the imei. I'm assuming there is some sort of mathmatic formula that's run against the imei to get the code. (That's 100% a guess btw).
I'm also guessing a select few companies/people were given, or figured out on their own, the way to get the code.
If I am wrong or someone knows otherwise, please share. Id actually like to know for sure!
I've heard you can get it for just a few bucks, so it may be worth it to just go that route anyway.

U mention economy in your post. Go get a code on ebay for $8 just like everybody else did and stop moaning since $8 is nothing compared to the hundreds fyou paid for the phone. Also read other threads about unlock code, there are already tons open.

As i said ''what you post didnt sound nice''. As for that ebay guy, i am still waiting an answer from him.... 12h! Of course i wasnt moaning for 8 bucks but i as i mentioned before i am always trying to do it by myself. I cant see whats the problem with you! Since you know about the open posts you should also knew that its kind a mess with none - reliable solution. (i am not sure if i have read everything tho).
I am not going to write about the way you shoud talk or post on a forum. I am pretty sure you wont even understand!

Thats exactly what i think happens as well. However, one can unlock the htc one s for free. The process is like reading a partition on the device thats normally hidden but htc was lazy about how hidden it was.
And i think its the same method for any phone. Its just a matter of how to access said partition. But z3box and like devices have that ability to read the partition. And thats i believe how they generate the code.

Hi guys, as you know the G3 is awesome but has a problem with random hard crashes. I've had this issue since I bought the phone.
I didn't take it to warranty then because I didn't have a spare phone to use in the meantime. I do now and I'd like to go back to complete stock so I can get take it into warranty.
Can anybody tell me if there is a guide online? or steps to take?
thank you in advance.

Sorry I did a search but didn't find anything at first I found the thread. this question can be removed by mods or locked.
Hi, i have two questions.
1. How can i find out which type of device I have? (sprint,verizon....)
2. Can i securely take Ota´s when I later want to s-off my device?
Thanks for an answer
1. How do you not know what device you have for which carrier?
Once you go S-off you can flash the modified firmware in the correct threads that supply updates.
I got it over my company. Is there something like a modell number to find out?
you think you should be flashing a device that does not belong to you? and you didn't even bother to look to find the information by yourself?
if this is the case, your ethics suck and i hope we never meet in the real world.
Sry for the missunderstandings. I bought the device for private use for myself for lower costs over my company. Its not a phone from my work. Perhaps I did not understood the differences correctly between the devices. Often I read sth like " not working on sprint devices" . I just want to know which one I have or is there no difference?

sorry if i implied that you might have been untrustworthy. you can see the carrier simply by swiping down twice while the screen is on an unlocked. its at the very top.
Settings > About > Phone Identity can give you information about the specific model of HTC 10.

It was also my fault because of my badly asked question. In the settings the model is named as "HTC 10" I think thats the "normal" one. I mixed the manufaceurs with the carriers, that was my problem. Thanks for your help

As @SacredDeviL666 mentioned, plenty of info in Settings>About.
It's hard enough to type on a 2.5" on-screen keyboard. Add being harder to edit than with a full keyboard, its easy for misunderstandings to thrive.
I bought a used HTC One M9, and everything seems to work fine until I try to update it (Its on Android 5.0.2) it looks normal but then goes to this screen (See attached photo). I guess the phone has S-off? I'm not really very good with any of this stuff, if anyone can help me get back to stock so I can get OTA's that'd be great. I tried doing all the research I could but have gotten nowhere. The phone is an unlocked model, I was told it's a developers edition but IDK how to tell the difference. There is no carrier branding so I'm assuming he didn't lie, and that the phone actually is unlocked. If anyone can help it'd be very greatly appreciated, I planned to use this phone as my main phone but I cant use it on almost 3 year old software.

Not to be polemic but, writing: "its still screwed up" don't help at all. Too much links and redirects? Well, write it about. Suggest some own ideas, if you have one.
Maybe you lost THIS.

hi all im new to all this and I have a sm-n975u and was wanting to see if I can get some help with info.
1. Can I and how to get off sprint
2. Imei repair
3. Is it able to be rooted
I was able to get to download screen, recovery screen, etc. So I flashed all factory files on it using odin just to see if it would work and all worked 100% so I don't see why I can't do the above things. Thanks everyone in advance

As long as your phone qualifies and is paid off you can just call sprint and ask them to carrier unlock it.
If your phone is not paid off -or- you purchased a used phone that is financed then no one can help you here (forum rules prohibit this)

If you want a proper answer your going to have to provide what it is your wanting to do with the IMEI. Commonly people are trying to change or recover an IMEI.
If your asking how to change an IMEI then I'm 96% confident forum rules prohibit this too. The IMEI is like a VIN on a car... changing it (same as unlocking a financed phone) is not exactly legal and could land XDA in some legal problems for allowing the discussion. This is where the forum rules come into play.
If you lost your IMEI your pretty much out of luck and will most likely need a new motherboard.

Not yet and no time frame for when it will be (if it ever can be). Refer to the bounty thread (the one linked above by raul6) for more info on the subject.
Thank you for the info, my phone is paid off yes and I was given codes but they did nothing, as far as imei repair it but more so on what might fall under prohibited. I wasn't aware that would be against on anyone giving info for so thank you for letting me know that as well .... guess that only leaves root and I'm guessing this is one that can't have that done as well lol. Looking like this is another to just toss in the kitchen drawer ?

I'm pretty sure sprint still uses some sort of OTA carrier/sim unlock method and not a code you enter.
You might want to get a hold of sprint and and make sure they gave you the correct information.
Okay ill do that today since I tried what they gave me and it did nothing, was three codes that really didn't let me change a thing one of course was the MSL the other a PUK code and the other id have to find what I wrote down. I'm guessing they may not have understood what I was asking them for. I was very clear about switching companies so I figured that was enough but apparently not lol. Thanks for the info.
