[Q] Is my phone dead for good?

Hi everyone,
I made a stupid error last night and I flashed the wrong rom to my phone :S I flashed a AT&T ROM, now my phone won't turn ON at all tried all combination to go into download mode nothing happen. When I plug it to my computer it required a driver that I couldn't find. to make it worse I called T-mobile hoping that they will help me but they couldn't because I don't have a prove of purchase :S since I bought it from someone else.
Any idea what can I do ?

Yep, it's dead for good unless someone has figured out how to make/use a USB jig for the TMO SGS2... that's why we read before flashing roms.... it's never really a good idea to flash a rom from a different device anyway.

You go to flash a ROM but fail to even recognize that they are two totally different phones?

I doubt it'll come back to life without a USB jig. You can try calling T-Mobile for a replacement again and just tell them you need a warranty replacement...the person you were speaking to probably doesn't know that proof of purchase is not required. I've never had to show proof of purchase and always gotten my phones from somewhere other than tmobile, but I think that would be considered fraud in your case since its not really a mistake on the manufacturers part....

Does it boot up? if it doesn't boot at all you're golden. Just call in for a warranty replacement.

Yes, even if you do not have a proof of purchase, you can call Samsung directly and get it replaced.
Please remember this guy came here for help not to be criticized. I also know that when something like this happens, it's no fun and he's probably feeling bad enough as it is, so why add salt to injury?

This is not the first time I flash a phone ( I flashed my previous Nexus one and flashed my HD7 ) and I previously flashed my Galaxy S II with BeastMod, I don't know how I missed it this time.

I ordered a USB jig last night and I'm waiting for it if it didn't work I'll send it to Samsung.

While I was searching to try to help Tunisiano, I came across another thread about a "bricked phone"...LOL
Apologies for laughing, but this guy in the other thread said his gf bricked his phone when she flashed the wrong rom from another device. He said he left his phone in the house for a while when he went out and she tried to flash a rom for him cause she does not like the TW launcher...LOL
...Idk if he's telling the truth or not but that was funny and people there bombed him for that...(I'm sure some of you were on that thread). I mean come on, "my gf flashed the wrong rom for me" LOL

Just go to the website. I assure u have nothing to worry about. Don't listen to these guys making fun of u **** happens... its really no big deal u can send ur phone tomorrow have it back working in a week.

I can sort of understand what the OP did, I mean, it's the "even if I know it's not the right thing it's close enough and if I do it just right maybe it will work or I can make it work" thing. Haven't we all experienced this at one time or another? We learn from this stuff

I did it, not ashamed, it happens and I'm by no means new to the root and ROM game. Odin'd recovery and forgot to untick repartition. Same thing you got...Qualcomm high speed USB interface...this phone is way more sensitive in download mode than the vibrants are. So I brought mine back once for that then two more times for the screen.

They can't do it for T-989, only AT&T version of Galaxy S II

My first two word in my post was " Stupid mistake" because I know that it's preventable...

There's no one among us who hasn't made some type of mistake at some point in life so lay off the guy.
Sue you might not make THIS particular mistake but that's aside from the point.
For him to meekly ask people for advice while openly admitting an error that he could've lied about or blamed on a made up entity and receive this brand of childish, elitist, holier than thou, insulting nonsense is an embarrassment to the rest of us.

i HAVE A HTC EVO4G ACTIVATED IN CLARO, IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY CANNOT PLACE DATA ON MY PHONE
I HAVE MY MSL CODE AND EVERYTHING, IS THERE A WAY I CAN MANUALLY CONNECT TO THE DATA ANTENNA? ALL THE SETTINGS ARE STILL FROM SPRINT, AND A ANOTHER QUICK QUESTION; CAN I CHANGE MY NUMBER AND IT NOT AFFECT ANYTHING?

Your best bet would be to look at another phone, similar OS, on the same network and change your phones settings to match. You're already "flashed" and capable of using your phone to make and receive phone calls?

Can't tell if yelling or caps lock broken, possibly dumb?

No, you're right, I didn't offer anything new or refreshing or insightful or whatever to the OP. But i wasnt mocking him, either. Just trolling the original troller. All this needs to be done through your service provider.Sorry for the cat fight.I hope this helped you.

thank you for the answers..except the smart guy who noticed i can write in capital letters..dont know wether you're genius or just plain dumb(for not helping)..to continue with this..my phone is fixed to make and recieve calls, i dont want to change phones and to the last post, i canr=t take it to my service provider because they no longer do it, even though it is possible.
so finally, i just want to know if i can input all the settings myself so that i can have data on my phone

I think, starting with GSM phones, but with digital phones in general, you can no longer manually program phones; all phone programming is done over the air. But, since this is Xda, maybe someone knows how to insert that information thru a file in the OS.

[Q] Touch Keys Don't Work

I've done some searching and I haven't found any problems like mine yet. I ran the SGS unlock tool meant for Vibrant on my SGS2 (i know i know) and it didn't work. Ever since my touch keys don't work. I just reflashed my rom and they still don't work.. help!
PS. I'm odining now. Hopefully that'll fix it.

Unable to offer much insight but seems that if you go back to stock they would certainly assume it's a hardware failure.

iv'e gotten most of my phones from craigslist and they still replaced them for me. i just waited like a week to make sure that my imei number showed up in there system so they didnt question me where i got my phone from lol.

Yeah my phone was only working for less then 24 hours, I don't think there's any hope for tmo to replace it. What I don't get this is someone at some point bought it from tmobile, why do they care if it changed hands?

damn that sucks. it wont show up in there system if it was only used for less then 24 hours. sometimes i would just chat with tmobile online and tell them that i want to make sure they have my correct imei number in there system and they ask me what my imei number is then they tell me its not the right one and if they want me to have them update it and i say yes then they tell me it can take up to 48 hours for there system to update it. idk why they care if u didnt get it from them.

i already paid for a jtag service so I'll just go that route, but I'll keep all of this in mind the next time i hard brick a phone... =P

You could try doing it yourself. There is a step-by-step breakdown guide in General which I have used two or three times. It's easy and DIY costs much less than it would to go through a repair service.

I do believe so. The guide is very informative, has step-by-step instructions with pictures, and is full of tips ranging from purchasing the right parts to little details that may be overlooked during the process, from quite a few others who have already done it; myself included. This is the thread I'm talking about. The tools you need will more than likely come with the digitizer kit, so there really aren't any tools you would need to run out and get before doing it. Read through it and make your own determination though; I don't want to say "Yeah, do it" and have you mess it up... but I honestly think it's simple enough.
EDIT: actually, after skimming back through the thread, I notice that a lot of the commentary I mentioned wasn't there... It's still an awesome guide and I, and probably others here as well, can help answer any questions you might have about it.

The only thing that might change is you may end up getting a digitizer without a carrier logo; but as far as IMEI or Serial or anything of that sort goes, nothing will change.

hi all im new to all this and I have a sm-n975u and was wanting to see if I can get some help with info.
1. Can I and how to get off sprint
2. Imei repair
3. Is it able to be rooted
I was able to get to download screen, recovery screen, etc. So I flashed all factory files on it using odin just to see if it would work and all worked 100% so I don't see why I can't do the above things. Thanks everyone in advance

As long as your phone qualifies and is paid off you can just call sprint and ask them to carrier unlock it.
If your phone is not paid off -or- you purchased a used phone that is financed then no one can help you here (forum rules prohibit this)

If you want a proper answer your going to have to provide what it is your wanting to do with the IMEI. Commonly people are trying to change or recover an IMEI.
If your asking how to change an IMEI then I'm 96% confident forum rules prohibit this too. The IMEI is like a VIN on a car... changing it (same as unlocking a financed phone) is not exactly legal and could land XDA in some legal problems for allowing the discussion. This is where the forum rules come into play.
If you lost your IMEI your pretty much out of luck and will most likely need a new motherboard.

Thank you for the info, my phone is paid off yes and I was given codes but they did nothing, as far as imei repair it but more so on what might fall under prohibited. I wasn't aware that would be against on anyone giving info for so thank you for letting me know that as well .... guess that only leaves root and I'm guessing this is one that can't have that done as well lol. Looking like this is another to just toss in the kitchen drawer ?

I'm pretty sure sprint still uses some sort of OTA carrier/sim unlock method and not a code you enter.
You might want to get a hold of sprint and and make sure they gave you the correct information.

Okay ill do that today since I tried what they gave me and it did nothing, was three codes that really didn't let me change a thing one of course was the MSL the other a PUK code and the other id have to find what I wrote down. I'm guessing they may not have understood what I was asking them for. I was very clear about switching companies so I figured that was enough but apparently not lol. Thanks for the info.
