i HAVE A HTC EVO4G ACTIVATED IN CLARO, IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY CANNOT PLACE DATA ON MY PHONE
I HAVE MY MSL CODE AND EVERYTHING, IS THERE A WAY I CAN MANUALLY CONNECT TO THE DATA ANTENNA? ALL THE SETTINGS ARE STILL FROM SPRINT, AND A ANOTHER QUICK QUESTION; CAN I CHANGE MY NUMBER AND IT NOT AFFECT ANYTHING?
Need help fast
Your best bet would be to look at another phone, similar OS, on the same network and change your phones settings to match. You're already "flashed" and capable of using your phone to make and receive phone calls?

No, you're right, I didn't offer anything new or refreshing or insightful or whatever to the OP. But i wasnt mocking him, either. Just trolling the original troller. The OP even followed up his comment without using all caps. Was i douchy, ok, maybe, but it was at least in defense of the original poster. All he was doing was asking for help.

All this needs to be done through your service provider.Sorry for the cat fight.I hope this helped you.
thank you for the answers..except the smart guy who noticed i can write in capital letters..dont know wether you're genius or just plain dumb(for not helping)..to continue with this..my phone is fixed to make and recieve calls, i dont want to change phones and to the last post, i canr=t take it to my service provider because they no longer do it, even though it is possible.
so finally, i just want to know if i can input all the settings myself so that i can have data on my phone

I think, starting with GSM phones, but with digital phones in general, you can no longer manually program phones; all phone programming is done over the air. But, since this is Xda, maybe someone knows how to insert that information thru a file in the OS.

Google qpst, qxdm, and cdma workshop. If it can be done you will need those programs and half a degree in rocket science.

Its called internet etiquette no one wants a question yelled at them and then expect help, get over it your post is real insightful I already know I'm an asshole and I don't give two $#!TS I also don't help ppl who don't know how to search or read the forum rules gtfo yourself or mind your own business 99% of my posts are helping ppl who ask proper questions or atleast attempt to help themselves before sticking their handout and wanting something given to them, hell 2 seconds on google and he would've known he needs to make sure he's using an appropriate donor a cheap 1x donor won't get you 3g simple as that and most evo4g users on xda are on US carriers so how the hell would we know d!ck about a DR provider other than searching just like the OP should do before screaming a question out *rolls eyes* BTW you should get down off your soap box before you fall and hurt yourself ;-)

No, you're not losing 3g. The 3g icon has magically disappeared since build 1. All is well in the world of strongsteve.
I don't know if this is in general or not but I have a theory. With 3g on, you cannot surf the web and talk at the same time. When you're on the phone with a call, its using the cdma side of the phone (for phone calls). 3g is the data side. They aren't the same thing. I just confirmed something with wifi on. I made a call and tried to surf the net at the same time and it worked. The bars signal strength is for the phone and the 1x/3g is for data in which there isn't a separate signal strength meter for that.

I got to admit it is sometimes hard to grasp the concept that people do not know some of these what most would call "simple" things. Quite simply your voice and internet are both on the same network. So your phone simply removes the 3g icon when you surf the web since both can not operate at the same time on Sprints Network. Now in a GSM(Tmobile, At&T) world voice and data do not share the same "lane" and can co exist.
I understand others who say its not there lifes goal to understand everything bout phones but to some of us if you are flashing and rooting we expected a certain amount of knowledge in phone matters... So I understand fully master's response...
Hope I cleared it up for you...

. How to root and flash are layed out fairly simple. Not how the 'lanes' work. Im a diesel mech,i call rebuilding a tranny simple. So if you do somthing as simple as changing your own oil,i would expect you to know how to also install a starter?
If i did spend more time messing with my phone,i would kno this. But i dont. This is a site for help, even if its a noob question, why tear a 'noob' a new one for not knowing? A simple answer would suffice.

It's because Sprint's 3G network can not simultaneously keep 3G active while in a phone call, so the phone puts itself into 1x (and lets the phone user know that 3G is no longer active.) After the phone call, the 3G icon will reappear. When Sprint's LTE network hits, this will no longer be a problem.
Ive always loved android sprint phones since the htc hero and ive always made them work in mexico and usa but now i have this amazing phone that have become the worst one...this is why
-unknown number bug when getting a call no matter what i do
-not receiving sms or mms or anything
-not having even a good radio with signal or wifi(is amazing how a b/g ipod touch can receive wifi networks that an a/b/g/n cant even get)
ive never seen anything like this with any phone and i see alot of them at work and because i dont see a future on how to solve this problems i think ill change this phone for a sensation or a gnex :S

Have you tried resetting your data profile with ##72786# need msl. If that doesnt work it is probably something on the backend call tech support get them to refresh your sms and data from their end. :banghead:

@GalaxyDev
Your problems are very likely caused by "making it work" on different carriers. There must be some settings that are just not correct. As for the radio on the Epic 4g Touch, I agree it is weak. But since the EL29 update and beyond, the radio performance has improved GREATLY and it works as it should now. The Motorola Photon has the BEST radio of any Sprint phone I've ever used. Side by side comparisons proved that to me. The Phonton is a cdma/gsm global device so it's something you might want to consider.

Hello there
i have been on this forum for a while. Owner of Galaxy s1 international...
Since economy isnt good here on Greece i bought a T-Mobile T999 galaxy s3.
I always try to search search search to find what i need and i always have a sucess (thats why i dont have so much posts).
This time ........... i cant do anything. I am trying more than 7h now.....
I have read more than 10-20 different ways...
Root- Flass...bla bla bla etc ... nothing worked until now.
You will say go pay and get a code...
i always want to do everything by myself.
So can someone help me? Can someone give me good details on how to do it or any link that it might help me?
Thank you in advance...
Regards
PS Please dont start search forum... i have done that more than you think.....
BTW i have make a backup of efs but when i am trying to find nv_data.bin .... there is NO such a file...

There is no way to manually unlock it. Since you're from Greece, you'll have to pay for it

I could be way off here as I have never dealt with the unlock codes. But I was under the impression that the code is different for every phone and is based on the imei. I'm assuming there is some sort of mathmatic formula that's run against the imei to get the code. (That's 100% a guess btw).
I'm also guessing a select few companies/people were given, or figured out on their own, the way to get the code.
If I am wrong or someone knows otherwise, please share. Id actually like to know for sure!
I've heard you can get it for just a few bucks, so it may be worth it to just go that route anyway.

Thats exactly what i think happens as well. However, one can unlock the htc one s for free. The process is like reading a partition on the device thats normally hidden but htc was lazy about how hidden it was.
And i think its the same method for any phone. Its just a matter of how to access said partition. But z3box and like devices have that ability to read the partition. And thats i believe how they generate the code.

Hey guys. i'm pretty new to the forum and android development so forgive me if i'm posting in the wrong section.
So this i what i want: I want to configure my Evo (sprint) to use a local cdma carrier here. (i moved to NIgeria and theres no sprint coverage whatsoever here!).
Can it be done?
How can it be done?
Thanks a lot for replies:highfive:
Of course it can be done.
Do a search here and basically follow the guides for flashing to boost or cricket.
Your going to need a "donor" for the cdma carrier you want to use. Try an get one thats 3g and that you can find drivers for...
Then flash accordingly. ..like I said, it will be a similar process just the info will be a bit different.
Good luck

Well basically, for each carrier, the phone has some specific identifiers put on it
when you "flash" from one carrier to another, you're essentially just transferring those identifiers from one phone to another, and thats what the (already activated) donor phone does...it gives the phone you WANT to activate the correct identifiers and codes

Ok, so its basically like i'll be cloning the information off the donor phone in order to activate the EVO? Then that means i'll have to get a phone with the local carrier i want to flash to? will any phone do or do i need a specific type?

All the answers are in the guide. Read a few different ones a few times.
For me, that answered 90% of my questions and google assisted with the other 10.
What guide?

Yes, thats exactly what you would be doing. As for the other part, I think its best to get a phone (like a cheap android) that you can easily read the information off of, but dont quote me on this because I've never flashed a phone to any carrier
You might wanna read through this just to get a sense of what it involves

If you can't follow that guide then you shouldn't be trying to carrier flash your device, you're gonna end up losing your NV data and borking the device
I like to break stuff!
