Faulty power button? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

On my note 2 you have to press the power button pretty hard to get the screen to turn on. Will T-Mobile replace the phone in store? I also have insurance. My phone is running rooted stock. Should I restore it to complete stock?

Why don't you just use "Smart Screen ON" from Play Store and don't ever use your power button again.
It's also much cooler to just waive your finger and the screen turns on or off. ..

When I pay 300 dollars for a phone I expect no power button issues. What if I ever needed to boot into download mode or recovery?

Don't get me wrong - I see your point and agree. That being said, if you find yourself in a bind and need to do either of those things (get into download mode or recovery) - as long as you are rooted just grab terminal emulator from the playstore, then open it up and enter
Code:
su
After hitting enter and allowing permissions and all that, you can then enter the following for recovery
Code:
reboot recovery
or enter this for download mode
Code:
reboot download
Figured I'd drop that here just in case, and apologies if you were already aware.

Galalxy S2 wont go in recovery

It used to be just fine, I could just press vol down and power and would go in recovery, but recently it just wont go in recovery, i always have to use rom manager, or adb to go in there, what do you guys think?
I believe you press both up and down volume, plus power to get into recovery. Not Volume down, plus power.
Its volume up and down.

Press volume up and down and power at the same time. When you see the Samsung logo, Let go of all three.
Mine wasn't going into using darkside kernel it would only work if I used clockwork app so I flashed back to bullet

You could also try flashing the touch CWM using ODIN if that still doesn't work. But usually you just hold down both volume buttons.
Thanks. It works with both buttons. Thanks again

Power button not working but powers on when plugged in

Hey all. I have been having problems with my Samsung Epic 4g. The power button doesn't work anymore and I thought maybe if I purchased a jig, I could put it into recovery mode and reset it using that. It only allows me to put it into download mode. Is there any way that I could get into recovery mode without a physical button?
If you are rooted download quick boot from the play store. It has a boot to recovery option.
Sent from my PantechP4100 using xda premium
Its not rooted and doesn't power on of course any alternatives?
Use odin and flash cwm5 and use it to reset it or use odin to reset the whole phone.
Although it sounds more like a hardware issue, try taking it to a sprint store

He can't . No power button means no download mode. And if usb debugging isn't on then adb won't help either.

He says in his first post that his usb jig only allows him to be put into download mode and from there he can do whatever

You could try holding down your power button and frantically plugging in and pulling out your USB cable.
It should eventually power on.

Ah, the jig...yes you are correct. So download mode is an option holding the 1 key when popping in the jig.
Once its all rooted you can remap the power button to the camera button. I dunno what free apps can do this but I know widget locker can do it. It works fairly well at the expense of some ram and of course your camera button however this won't work to turn it on only when its already on.

[Q] Broken Power button, any way to fix or mod?

So i dropped my Epic 4g on the stairs, and it landed directly on the power button. The button no longer works. If someone knows how to fix this, I would LOVE details. If it is not possible, can any of the devs cook up a mod to make my phone boot as soon as the charger is connected? Any feedback is appreciated.

Do you know if its just the plastic button or is it broken more towards the motherboard? Also I'm not sure of any dev who would know how to change the power on to the charger input.

Do u have any way to turn it on? At least to get to cwm? Cuz if u can and flash cm7 it has an option to turn another button into the power button.

more towards the mother board. I opened it up, removed the plastic button, and used a small screwdriver to press the actual button. No dice

I can turn it on (oddly enough rapidly inserting and removing the power cord tricks it into turning on) and yes I can get into clockwork mod. I already user cyanogen mod 7. Where is this setting? I already changed the "volume rocker wake" setting. If there another one to remap the keys?

No I think you got the one that was in my mind. I'm on the peoples rom now so I can't really go and check to make sure but its the setting that makes the phone turn on by the volume key I'm guessing? So maybe you have the one I was thinking about? What other use do you need the power button for at the moment? Order a replacement and just flash the FC09 tar before giving it in. Say that u don't know what's wrong but it won't turn on lol.

Well if your power button doesn't work then Odin isn't a possibility. But if you can get into download mode then Odin to stock and turning it into the nearest sprint store would be your best bet....

If he could odin than he can turn on the phone hence no need for this thread but that's not the case. Honestly just go pay the money and have sprint give you another phone and say you lost it. Its the same cost even if you give them the phone I've done it before for people who wanted my epic for cricket and with the additional cash I payed for the issurance. Your paying for insurance use it.

I can deal with it until June. Then everyone on the house upgrades but me. I'll take my older sisters epic 4g and use my parents HTC EVO's as mp3 players. Or whatever the hell music format I so damn choose player as my audiophile friend refers to Android phones (he's kinda a fan). But thanks for the help guys. Looks like it's a waiting game

Quickboot from Play has a flash to recovery option.
I'm on CM10 (nightly 9/28) and recently my power button broke.
I found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27334251&postcount=6
Menu - Settings - Display - (scroll down to Wakeup Options and check Volume rocker wake)... but it doesn't wake it from a deep sleep. Anyone have any ideas?
Slide the keyboard open and close it. That should turn the screen on

Us there a command in the terminal I can user to reboot my phone the normal way?

I really don't care to bother to make changes the phone in the framework begin to add new power menus and all that. I hussy need a command to make a shortcut to reboot my phone with the traditional shut down on all Android phones today for better results with my problems.

You could always search the market for a power widget like this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...NvbS5mcmFuY2VzY29hdXJpbm8ucmVib290d2lkZ2V0Il0.
Probably much easier than typing in a terminal command.
This is probably the nicest thing that could have been done. Thanx bro

Okay. I'd you use the 2.3.6. Roms like bluray or darkside the power menu has a reboot button which does not make a shortcut and closes out all the Android sessions and then reboots. I really like that style of reboot which make the Phone have better performance or sessions with Android. I really like to keep a much detail as possible when I can but I don't get how to describe what in looking for without mentioning others people power menus.

Menu is okay but a terminal command is better so I don't have to change the ROM I have, i'm using stock with streamline kernel and v6 tweaks and don't want to change the current power menu unless it won't happen any other way.

I would settle to flash a menu but I really don't want to mess with the ROM. I like the reboot on the power menus but i'm not willing to make changes to my ROM right now since its running so awesome. I just want to get a command like a terminal command for a reboot from the power menus which have the whole entire not a quick but a complete reboot instead of the quick one, that's all.

CWM - recovery only sees internal memory?

Is there a way for cwm to boot into external SD card? Coming from HTC amaze it was one of the options.
Also, hard boot into recovery via battery removal it's so painful - holding 3 buttons and inserting the battery at the same time is a challenge. Is there another way?

There's no need to insert the battery at the same time. Do that first. You can even put the battery cover on. Then when you're ready hold power, volume up, and home button at the same time. If you wanted you can even hold home and volume up before pressing power.

This works fine under normal boot into recovery, but I just use quick boot app from market for that. The problem is when I flash a different rom for instance and forget to flash the matching kernel. The only way to get back is to remove battery trick, which is not easy.
