Hey all. I have been having problems with my Samsung Epic 4g. The power button doesn't work anymore and I thought maybe if I purchased a jig, I could put it into recovery mode and reset it using that. It only allows me to put it into download mode. Is there any way that I could get into recovery mode without a physical button?
If you are rooted download quick boot from the play store. It has a boot to recovery option.

Its not rooted and doesn't power on of course any alternatives?
Use odin and flash cwm5 and use it to reset it or use odin to reset the whole phone.
Although it sounds more like a hardware issue, try taking it to a sprint store

He can't . No power button means no download mode. And if usb debugging isn't on then adb won't help either.

He says in his first post that his usb jig only allows him to be put into download mode and from there he can do whatever

You could try holding down your power button and frantically plugging in and pulling out your USB cable.
It should eventually power on.

Ah, the jig...yes you are correct. So download mode is an option holding the 1 key when popping in the jig.
Once its all rooted you can remap the power button to the camera button. I dunno what free apps can do this but I know widget locker can do it. It works fairly well at the expense of some ram and of course your camera button however this won't work to turn it on only when its already on.

So my power button is fried, and my replacement gets here on Monday, but I cannot live with a broken power button. So, any suggestions for app(s) that wake the phone using the volume key or something?
Bump. Need some help. D:

I'm running cm10 and under Settings» lockscreen» Screen Security there is an option to unlock the screen using the menu key (hard key on far left). Just tried it out, works flawlessly. Unfortunately I can't help you find the app you need and flashing a rom without using the power button may be problematic. Best of luck to you!

I would love to get CM, but the only problem is that since my power button is stuck, it's gonna be a pain to flash. And, not only that, as it is right now, since my power button is stuck, I was able to put it into ODIN mode and restore to stock unrooted to take it in, but I'm afraid that I might flash, and then the power button magically un-sticks, and then I'm screwed, cause I can't unroot it. Anyways, just today and tomorrow left, so not so bad. I actually think I can take it.

You went into download mode if I'm not mistaken... Power device off. Hold volume up+Home button +Power... When you see samsung logo release power button. Once in recovery, restore your latest backup. You did do a backup right?

no you download odin now and flash it back to stock or go use your back up if you made one.
Let's not confuse him more than neccessary.
If you are in Download Mode, then you would need an Odin package.
If you are in Recovery, then you would be restoring a backup (provided that you did make one of course).
They are two different paths here, just so that OP knows. Also, OP if you are in Download Mode and are NOT connected to PC or Odin, it is OK to pull the battery. If you are in the middle of an Odin flash, DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY.
Alternatively you can just hold the power button for about 10 seconds to force reboot. Much better than a battery pull btw.
Note thst this restarts the phone so as soon as you feel it vibrate or see the screen turn off release power button and immediately press power + volume up or down + home to get recovery or download mode.

So I'm trying to run my og on lgnpst but when I plug it in and run lgnpst it doesn't recognize it as being connected. But my computer does .I've read I need to get it into download mode to get it to show up in lgnpst but I can't get it to go in to download mode I've had the phone off and tried per +volume up and pretty much all button combinations and all I get is a black screen or the phone restarts?
To get into download mode turn off your phone. Press both the volume up and down button (or the little hump in the middle) and hold them while you plug the phone into the computer. That will get you into download mode

I'm having a similar problem with my LGOG it just gets stuck at the LG screen. I've looked everywhere for a fix and none of them will work because I can't get it to download or recovery mode... I've tried what you just suggested and all it does is connect to my computer for a split second and reset, never goes into download or recovery mode. Also when I turn it off a second or two later it turns back on and gets stuck at the LG boot logo. Any help would be great, as I have no idea what to do right now. Like I said I looked all over for a solution, and after a couple hours and searching I haven't found anything.
If I read this right, it sounds like you're not turning it off.
Press and hold the power button for 20+ sec. Then try recovery or mode.

Just got a good condition used Optimus G off ebay. The listing indicated that the phone was fully functional. However, it will not turn on. I've tried charging it but no lights come on. I've tried all combinations of vol +/- and power. Tried a different charger that I know is working...
I can probably get my money back but if its just an easy fix I wouldnt mind keeping the phone. Any ideas?

On my note 2 you have to press the power button pretty hard to get the screen to turn on. Will T-Mobile replace the phone in store? I also have insurance. My phone is running rooted stock. Should I restore it to complete stock?

Why don't you just use "Smart Screen ON" from Play Store and don't ever use your power button again.
It's also much cooler to just waive your finger and the screen turns on or off. ..

When I pay 300 dollars for a phone I expect no power button issues. What if I ever needed to boot into download mode or recovery?

Don't get me wrong - I see your point and agree. That being said, if you find yourself in a bind and need to do either of those things (get into download mode or recovery) - as long as you are rooted just grab terminal emulator from the playstore, then open it up and enter
Code:
su
After hitting enter and allowing permissions and all that, you can then enter the following for recovery
Code:
reboot recovery
or enter this for download mode
Code:
reboot download
Figured I'd drop that here just in case, and apologies if you were already aware.
