Galalxy S2 wont go in recovery - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

It used to be just fine, I could just press vol down and power and would go in recovery, but recently it just wont go in recovery, i always have to use rom manager, or adb to go in there, what do you guys think?

I believe you press both up and down volume, plus power to get into recovery. Not Volume down, plus power.

Its volume up and down.

Press volume up and down and power at the same time. When you see the Samsung logo, Let go of all three.

Mine wasn't going into using darkside kernel it would only work if I used clockwork app so I flashed back to bullet

You could also try flashing the touch CWM using ODIN if that still doesn't work. But usually you just hold down both volume buttons.

Thanks. It works with both buttons. Thanks again

Or you could use terminal emulator and just type
reboot recovery

AllGamer's solution was correct...
Recovery: (make sure the phone is OFF, like remove battery, put it back in). Hold Volume +, hold volume -, press power button (but don't hold it).
Download: same thing, but make sure it's plugged into a USB or charger

OMG finally..it works! i was under the impression that you had to hold all three to get into recovery. I only thought that because on my nexus s you held vol + and power to get into recovery.
thanks tho!
I must be retarded can't get it. Is this method for the new clockworkmod 5.0.2.7.
Another easy way if you are already rooted is download Terminal Emulator (free) from Market. Type SU+enter to access root then type reboot download+enter or reboot recovery+enter
while the phone is off hold volume up and down with power button when you feel it vibrate let go of only the power button and like Roman said for download just have it plugged in with usb and do the same..
Foreverloco thanks got it. The key for me was to let the power button go once vibration and still hold the rockers. Thanks again and thanks everyone.

Or you could just flash Team Kang's Juggernaut 2.0. ROM has these in their custom power menu (a must on any ROM for me) as well as in the quick panels.

Epic-ly tapped from my Galaxy SII

Now we're done
well if were gonna go there, hold home for recent apps
and i wish holding back would kill current app like in MIUI
Menu key opens menu (in apps that support it).
The volume rocker obviously controls the volume... And if you hold the volume down it puts your phone on silent with vibration.
Lol... Now were done here.

Well, if you're going to get into the soft keys, holding Home brings up recently used apps and task manager. hold the search brings up an app selection including Sound hound if you have it installed.

Does anyone know if there is a way to manually assign something to a long menu press on stock? I know you can do it with CM7, but I haven't found anything for TouchWiz.
If your phone is on and you have cwm installed you can press and hold the power and volume buttons together and it will take you straight to recovery.

[q] help please!!

Today I went into recovery mode to fix permissions because my phone was running funny. I used the cache wipe script and when i tried rebooting my phone it wouldn't turn on. I decided to take the battery out for a few minutes to see if that would help. It finally turned on but it is stuck on the boot animation. I have tried to get straight into recovery after trying to reboot it but it won't let me. Could someone please help me figure out what's wrong and how I can fix it?
Have you tried holding down both vol down + up and power button same time then releasing power button when the phone vibrates?

I've tried that and nothing. I can turn it on now but it gets stuck on the boot animation. I cant get into recovery.
Edit: Finally got it into recovery now I'm going to flash a backup i made yesterday. Thanks for the reply.
Hold the vol up and down with power button at the same time. Let it vibrate once and take finger off power button and once Samsung logo comes on take your fingers off the volume rocker.

[Q] Can't boot into recovery? Any solutions?

Hello XDA fellas,
Earlier, I was browsing in the S3 section, and someone has ported the S4 camera apk for S3, so without hesitation, I flashed it onto my phone.
Immediately when I reboot, my phone wouldn't go past the boot animation, so I thought... Okay, I will just flash my nandroid backup then.
But what I found out now is giving me a heart attack, my phone doesn't go into recovery, instead, it reboots if I hold down Power + Vol Up + Down for more than 4 secs... so fine... I went to Odins and reflashed CWM with a Stock Rom, but it's still not getting past the boot animation.
If anyone has any solution to this... I would appreciate it if you can share with me what you know.
Thanks.

actually...took me a while to figure out too. i think every phone is different.
i hold power + volume up until i see the blue 'recovery booting' comes on, then i release the power button but still holding the volume up for about another 10sec or hold until i see recovery

If you hold volume up or down as the phone vibrates to restart or boot, you get recovery and download mode respectively. You don't even need to hold power. It's actually much easier than older Android phones. No secret, you're just doing it wrong. jk.
Give it a try though. Restart your phone, and as long as you're holding down the volume up button from the indicating vibration until the blue text shows up in the top left corner, then you can let go. Same goes for down for download mode, but it will immediately go to the warning screen.

The secret =
Keep holding it down till u see the Samsung Logo, then release.

if i let go of the volume when i see the blue logo only.. then it takes me to the stock recovery..or some other recovery so i kept thinking my recovery didn't get flashed. but what i had to do was just hold the volume key longer. ..until my recovery boots up.
this only applies to my recovery mode, i think it has to do with the ota update which had a root locked kernel.

No need for the home button. If you trigger a restart from the os, you don't even need the power button.
If you're on the ota and are having trouble rooting, go into download mode and flash a custom recovery tar. Then when it auto resets, hold down the vol up button until the blue text in the upper left corner appears on the galaxy s4 splash screen. Boom you're in custom recovery

Sounds like your going into download mode and not recovery. just hold volume up and hit restart on the phone.
