ok so i rooted my aunts one v cdma on VM because it was lagging so bad. didnt even think about checking radio and hboot to see if she had ran the ota because with my phone i have s-off and i can downgrade at will. anyway she did and i can get roms to boot with sick kernel but the Bluetooth will not work. i have read so many threads and i know its a kernel issue. my question is does anyone have a pure stock kernel that is compatible with the radio and hboot 157 update or does anyone know of another kernel that will boot a JB rom that the Bluetooth works on. i never use Bluetooth but she always has one in her ear so its a must. when i ran the backup b4 i installed the first rom i somehow only backed up the checksum and not the system like a dummy so its either get it to work or buy her a new phone and i dont wanna do that. Please tell me i can fix this!!! thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,
I'm new at xda developers, and I recently started experimenting with rooting, custom ROMs, etc. I have a question about the RIL firmware drivers. Hope you guys can help me out.
Lately I've been following the progression of baadnewz's InsertCoin ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016940), a Desire port of the Desire S ROM (with sense 2.1); you probably already know it. I want to give it a try, but - coming from CM7/prerooted stock roms - I noticed that baadnewz recommends upgrading the radio to the latest version, as well as the ril-firmware-drivers.
I understand the RIL is some kind of mediator between the ROM and the radio. Therefore, is it true that a specific RIL can only be used with a corresponding ROM (version), or has the ROM nothing to do with it? The reason I'm asking this question is because I want to make sure the newer radio+ril will still work in case I decide to return to my old stock ROM. And in general, is it ok to presume that a newer radio+ril will be at least as good as an older radio, regardless of the ROM installed? (I've never upgraded my radio btw)
Thank you!
RIL is not neccesary, use it if things dont work well, it may improve situation, but it is likely that you will have to experiment till you found one that works best for your phone & rom & radio.
RIL is stored in ROM part, so every time you change ROMs, RIL you flashed is gone.
also you do not need to upgrade your radio, do it only if stuff doesnt work fine after flashing a custom ROM.
you also mentiond coming back to stock rom - when you ran a RUU, it also flashes a RADIO and a RIL, so no worries there
every radio comes with its own RIL, but experience showed, that not necessairly they work well together when it comes do diffrent devices on diffrent networks and diffrent roms.
so - flash your rom, if it is ok that leave things be, if not - upgrade your radio, and then you can start flashing RILs
remmember to make NANDROID before flashing RIL and also that in order to flash RIL you must mount \system in recovery.
radio flashes are safest from fastboot if you are S-OFF, if not you can do them from recovery
Thank you for your reply, really appreciate it
I have one last question, just out of curiosity.. You mentioned that radio flashes are safest from fastboot. Why is that?
I'm still S-ON so I won't be able to use fastboot for flashing... Would you recommend S-OFFing to minimize the risk of bricking my phone, in case I decide to flash a new radio?
Thnx
well you can flash radio from recovery, lots of ppl do that without any problems. i never tried it myself.
i think fastboot method is safer since it doesnt involve rebooting your phone during the procedure but not sure how exactly is this safer, it just has been stated many times, that flashing radio fastboot method is SAFEST.
anyway going S-OFF (cd method i used) is super easy, just be sure not to have a2sd+ or data2xxx rom while doing that.
oh and apart from minor advantages like changing your splashscreen or the ability to delete apps from \system while booted up in android there is one BIG advantage - the option to use custom partion table. I am running InsertCoin v19 on CM7 hboot version, and is not only super fast but also it provides lots of space for apps
it definietly faster than insertcoin HD data2ext i used before going S-OFF
Hi,
Just got my HTC Desire HD, downgraded from 1.72 and rooted with the CM7 ROM installed.
I still have the stock radio which came with the phone which is - 12.28b.60.140eP_26.03.02.15_M3.
My question is - I've checked the latest radio thread out but I'm a bit confused as to which one I need to ensure that my device remains unlocked?
Can someone point to me in the right direction please? Also, what is the problem in not upgrading the radio - are there any major issues that can occur?
Thanks for everyone's help.

if you have installed cyanogenmod 7 yo should flash the recommended radio for this rom...
but its relative,,,,, also the good performance depends of various factors... bettwen that is your location..there are recommended radios depending of your location...
the best advice... you can try some radios (cm7 recommended.... recommended for your location...) and compare if the signal strenght of the phone, wifi, 3g etc its worse or better...
but when you go to download a radio IMPORTANT:::: check md5 checksum
flash it with the most harmless method that you know, like fastboot commander...

be careful mate..... a badly use of radios or flashing it wrong can brick the phone
So it doesn't matter what radio you get to maintain an unlocked phone?
Right here is my problem, I had a rooted Desire which I was trying to unroot and in the past I had used a RUU to do it. This time round the RUU didnt work due to Hboot versions so I downgraded to a Froyo Rom. The catch is that Froyo Rom did not have a Radio and stupid me I did not flash a radio. Then I ran the Gingerbread RUU from HTCs website so basically at the moment I am sitting with a Desire that is running 2.3.3 stock but unable to make any calls due to the lack of a radio. I cant seem to be able to find a way to root the phone again and flash a radio. Any help will be appreciated.
wrong section dude
ask in Q/A
RUU comes with radio.. so find exactly ur problem then ask. and u dont need to flash radio if u have done this once..
and u can check if u have a radio installed and which version in the settings. about phone
Er.. No radio, no phone. I don't imagine it would give a slightest flicker of life!

Many thanks I checked from settings and the RUU does indeed come with a radio, the problem was my sim card. Thank you very much.
Mods please feel free to remove the thread.
Hello one and all!
So I have been playing with new ROM's for my EVO Supersonic. My Daily Driver is AlienwareMod Solar Flare Series V and LOVE it!
So I have been given an old EVO was going to play with it and explore new ROM's. I had rooted it about 2 years ago and she kept stock Sense on it so for some reason I left S-On. Although I am unlocked in the bootloader, and I have been reading on several forums that I dont need to have S Off anymore to load a rom, I seem to be having a common problem that I have been reading about. I can load custom ROM's on just fine, but when I fire up the WiFi the system slows down, and the WiFi cant lock on to a SSID. know the SSID sites are good and I have been trying to narrow donn the problem and have it down to these...
1. I need to achieve S-Off. Although I have many of files for when I did my personal root/unlock I dont have the all and MikMik's site dosnt have hem anymore.
2. I have partitiond a small 2G SD card with Ext3. The Kernel may not tolerate this? I have the stock Lionfish on but have tried others with no sccess on Ext2, Ext3 or Ext4 formatting.
3. I have not 'actvated' the phone on my Sprint Account. Is there maybe some files it would need to download?
4. Recovery. I am using ZZzRemove to really clean the phone... and use the 'Stock" ammon Ra to wipe x3. I prefer SmelMod but cant load a new recovery becuase it locks with a message PC360IMG Parcing.
5. HBOOT 2.18. I think i remember something about how this was locked??
I am thinking I will need to do a RUU to get an earlier version of HBOOT in order to get SOFF. But again, is that mission critical to getting the WiFi to work?
So I am stuck with a bit of a mental bootloop! Any thoughts would be welcome! Screenshots will be loaded of my Recovery and Bootloader upon request......
Thanks!
Your issue sounds like it could be hardware-related. Whether or not you're S-off should have no bearing on how well WiFi works. S-off simply means that the bootloader security is off and should not affect how or when WiFi works. As far as the files needed to gain S-off, shoot @Captain_Throwback a PM. He was the OP of the thread over on the MikMik page regarding rooting & S-off with the latest Hboot. As far as running a older RUU, you won't be able to since you're S-on.

I recommend this site/guide: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html
All the files you need should be there. As for the WiFi issue, that seems to be more device than software related. Being unlocked versus S-OFF won't affect your WiFi signal.
First of all it is an honor to have you reply Captain! I have been going over a lot of posts on here for a few years and have seen much of your handywork. I know the link you sent very well, that is what I used to Root/Rom my Daily Driver Evo with great success!
I will go back and revisit it again, but according to all the comments so far, I wont need S-Off since I wont be doing too many flashes. What is keeping me from just running the Revolutionary Utility is because it seems the S-Off utility requres HBOOT 2.16 or lower.
If I could, a few thoughts. I know that S-Off doesnt driectly affect the WiFi but I was curious if it was a Kernel issue and I have read that you cannot load a kernel successfully without a custorm, quality recovery and you cannot load a recovery without S-Off. I know when I had the phone at first I could jump on WiFi's easy-peasy... but when I loaded any ROMS (Sense, non Sense, JB variants etc etc.) the WiFi's just wont fire up or connect.
Ironicly, I was messing with the phone with a Odexed Sense Rom (rooted stock) it did connect today (after giving hassle for 2 days I just put it down and left it for a while). Maybe I am just being impatient? I have read that sometimes new ROM's and kernels take a few days to 'settle' in. Sorta like the Matrix!!
As an asside.. .and not part of this thread..... With Kit Kat using ART and not Devalk is there hope new life with these older phones?
Thanks to all!

You can install a custom recovery without being S-off. You can install it from the SD card via the bootloader or by using fastboot commands. From there you can flash a custom kernel. You obviously have a custom recovery installed already if you are flashing ROM's. I never flashed any custom kernels on my EVO when I ran Sense, but it helps to read the OP of any ROM or kernel thread to make sure that there aren't any issues with Wifi functionality. Do you have issues with a particular router you're trying to connect to or just Wifi in general? Did you have issues with WiFi when the phone was totally stock?

Great questions! Let me give you some answers!!
I rooted this phone about 2 years ago so dont remember all of my handywork. It is running
*****UNLOCKED******
HBoot- 2.18.0001
Radio - 2.15.00.12.19
Dec 21 2011
I probably used Revolution to do so. I did it with mine! When I got this phone a month ago, I factory reset it and Launched WiFi with no problems. I was using my home router which has had no problems with any other devices.
Only when I started to flash a ROM (I have tried team DIRT unofficial 4.2.2 as well as Thundershock, Nitro, and Jellybread) they all would load fine and be responsive until I tried to launch the WiFi and then it would either be stuck on scanning, or just drop out and then the operating system becomes unstable.
I then went back to a Sense Odexed Stock Gingerbread ROM and although I saw the WiFI launch and connect, it would drop out every few minutes.
I couldnt make a Nandroid since the recovery doesnt have that option. I am using RA-supersonice-v2.3 with ZZZVR_SUPERWIPE to flash.
I cant seem to load any other recoveries. I thought it was because I am still S-ON. It says Main Version is Older Update Fail! And that is using the RA-supersonic-v4.3-smelkusMOD
Any thoughts? I am willing to accept bad hardware, but seems like a weird coincidence that all of a sudden the WiFi would drop out.
Answered my own question
Update!
Well I have successfully ported my operating system to the new(er) EVO 4G that I got from my friend. Looks like I needed to contact Sprint and have them help me reset the PRL and MEID. The problem was I had to quick flash a Sense ROM in order to use the dial pad to input all the codes.
After that, I seems the ROM (Solar Flare Series V) is much more stable, and I think everyone else is right, the hardware may have issues since the Bluetooth and the WiFi seem to be dropping in and out.
And so... looks like I may load this up with a Media Based ROM to act as an entertainment device and looking to go jump on a Samsung Note 3.
If only I could somehow install a LTE receiver chip! Maybe I will post that question as a new thread.
I have a HTC One X and I want to overclock it, but I'm finding it hard to understand what a particular kernel does, can anyone help?
Okay so my phone was recently repaired and the motherboard replaced, since then I've unlocked it, installed latest CWM Recovery and rooted it. It is an endeavoru, it has HBOOT 1.73 and is S-ON.
I do not want to install a custom ROM, I really like 4.2.2 and Sense 5, plus the last time I installed one, it sodded up with phone calls so the other benefits don't out way that huge problem. So is there a way to flash a kernel that will allow me to overclock my phone with SetCPU?
Thank you
I've had a look at these, but they are not clear to me as to what they will do to my phone:

This question is for Q&A section not for here. If you want kernel everything is in OP on each kernel. And if you use sense rom use sense based kernel=
And from the links where you give only the first will work on your phone second is too old and no more maintenance for this kernel, and the third is something where you must be little more advanced read the OP what is KERNEL FLASHER. It is not a exactly kernel it is base part and will help you to flash boot.img without computer but really read little bit more for Kernel Flasher
