I have a HTC One X and I want to overclock it, but I'm finding it hard to understand what a particular kernel does, can anyone help?
Okay so my phone was recently repaired and the motherboard replaced, since then I've unlocked it, installed latest CWM Recovery and rooted it. It is an endeavoru, it has HBOOT 1.73 and is S-ON.
I do not want to install a custom ROM, I really like 4.2.2 and Sense 5, plus the last time I installed one, it sodded up with phone calls so the other benefits don't out way that huge problem. So is there a way to flash a kernel that will allow me to overclock my phone with SetCPU?
Thank you
I've had a look at these, but they are not clear to me as to what they will do to my phone:

This question is for Q&A section not for here. If you want kernel everything is in OP on each kernel. And if you use sense rom use sense based kernel=
And from the links where you give only the first will work on your phone second is too old and no more maintenance for this kernel, and the third is something where you must be little more advanced read the OP what is KERNEL FLASHER. It is not a exactly kernel it is base part and will help you to flash boot.img without computer but really read little bit more for Kernel Flasher

Just wondering how hard this would be as i have this rom on my nexus one and it is flawless, rock solid and i prefer it so much compared to oxygen, which i believe has a few issues here and there, just not very good. running 2.2.1 oxygen
here is the ROM i was wondering could be ported to desire.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1121595
i understanding porting anything is very complicated however as desire and nexus are quite similar i was wondering if this would generally be a easy port thanks
i have modded roms before, and have little knowledge of porting that's why am asking thanks
have you tried cyanogenmod before? You'd probably like it, best AOSP (Android Open Source Project) ROM there is.

i have heard and seen of it but never tried is the 7.0.3 very stable and smooth with no issues also would you know how much internal space does it leaves with the standard htc hboot as am not in to flashing tables thanks
you'll have just under 150mb... but if you flash CM7r2 SPL then you will get 287mb...... it's worth it lol
as long as you check md5 then nothing will go wrong.. I don't even know how many times I've flashed different hboots. You can get them from alpharev.nl#
you can use the MD5 check utility attached
thanks for your help, i was wondering do you need s off to flash hboot also i used that 1 click unrooter which means my recovery is rom manager and not alpharev i heard when you mix and match with the two you can brick the phone?
yes you need S-OFF.. I don't quite understand what you mean by the rest of that post lol.. If you're that scared of bricking your phone run a RUU and then S-OFF your phone, then you can perma-flash recovery through fastboot and flash a ROM... with the new revolutionary tool you don't even need to root.
but I've never heard of anyone bricking their phone after using Unrevoked and revolutionary so I think you're safe lol
okay thanks for your help and one last question, is the kernal included in cyanogen rom or do i do it seperately, if it is not included, do i clean allin recovery, flash radio than flash cyan rom. also you said i will get around 150mb for internal apps do i get a full clean 150mb thanks
no, you just need to flash the ROM and nothing else, everything is included.. and you get about 140mb for apps (as far as I can remember anyway, I use the CM7 SPL)
thanks you have been dead helpful.
Hi, I want to use VPN and RSAP with my DHD. Unfortunately it does not work out of the box. I got a free DHD with Android 2.3.5, Sense 3.0, Software 3.12.405.1.
I would like to create a VPN with my router (FRITZ!Box) at home. I stumbled across VPNC to get that done. But therefore I need root I think and a new kernel or only a kernel module (tun) or is it already in the kernel on my phone?
Additionally I would like to use my DHD with my car kit using Bluetooth RSAP. As far as I know RSAP is not supported by HTC. So I found RSAP for Android. But that also needs root. And S-OFF or not? And what else?
So, what do I need to do at least to get VPN and RSAP running? Installing custom ROMs is not in my focus at the moment. I'm very happy with my DHD as it is, beside the VPN and RSAP thing. And who knows, probably there will be ICS on my DHD some day...
Could you please bring some light into the darkness? It is too much...
Thanks in advance!
Yes, you will need to root your phone. From there on, should you need S-OFF for VPNC, it is only baby steps..
This guide by wid0w provides you with everything you need, so donĀ“t forget to say thanks:

I suggest fully unrestricting yor phone and flashing this rooted stock Rom bei Nitr00 if you are happy with your current version, so also hit the thanks button there should you decide to use it:

Thanks for your reply senor_wuetante!
Unfortunately even following the two links don't answer all questions.
So, could I install the rooted stock ROM from the second link after unlocking the bootloader using htcdev.com? What is the radio image for? Do I need that as well and why? And is the tun module, needed for VPN, included in the kernel?
Can I go back to stock with a locked - not relocked - bootloader again and how? What if I would like to test another ROM?
I'm really sorry, but getting it all together is really hard...
I highly highly advise against using the HTC dev tool . Just use the hack kit to root/soff.
As too tun module being included it should be part of the description in the kernal/rom thread. Not everyone will include it.
To test different rom simply just flash a new one.
As to going back to stock, yes its possible with the hack kit as well. Though if your Device is branded might be hard to find your specific ruu. To flash back to stock

Why? It sounds really good to me. Unlock the bootloader. Install already rooted ROM and you got it. Isn't it that easy?

We are talking about the rooted stock ROM Official RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1 STOCK ROOTED senor_wuetante mentioned in his second post. Is the tun module already included in the stock kernel?
I personally don't run sense based roms so don't know if its included. Ad to why not HTC Dev tool. Because it not as simple as flashing a rom in recovery, and people get stuck in a plash screen. For starters the boot image has to be flashed seperatley with fastboot. So you need to be near a PC to try new roms. Doing it the ace hack kit. No PC is required. So if their is an update I can do it on the go.
To get a better idea of what it intails there is a thread somewhere burried here where it talks about the steps. But if you feel that that's the way to go. Then do it. Whatever works for you. I was just giving my opinion, as I seen a few people get stuck, then having to relock bootloader then use the hack kit
I found one thread that explains the steps,I thought their were more but that was for attaining root, which your bypassing by going to a rooted rom. So the biggest issue is of the fastboot flashing the boot image each time for a new rom and probably kernels.(to me deal breaker)

Even though its for the desire z it still applies to us
Thanks marsdta!
So the answer to my question

seems to be NO, it isn't that easy. I thought (and hoped) I can install the rooted ROM after unlocking the bootloader from the recovery boot and that's it. But that's not how it works obviously.
I think I'll never get VPN and RSAP working on my DHD...
But it sounds so easy http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20106574#post20106574.
Boot your phone in recovery mode, install Zip from SD card, restart, boot in recovery mode again, install Radio Zip from SD card, restart, done!
That's why I'm confused so much...
So, what's next?
1) radios are not installed through recovery, they are installed through hboot/bootloader via a pd98img or through fastboot.- one thing to note but I am not positive on this is you can't update/change a radio with the HTC Dev tool.
2) its easy as flashing a rom in cwr if you get soff with the hack kit. But for what ever reason on how the bootloader is unlocked using the Dev tool. You would have to flash in recovery then boot into hboot and flash the boot image with the fastboot command
I mean it still seems relitivly easy, but I personally trust attn1 hack kit than I do HTC. But that's just me
Thanks!
Hi everyone and thank you very much for supporting me!
I finally did it with aahk and am running Android Revolution HD now!
You guys are awesome! Thanks for all the work!
Hey guys i just got an HTC desire online for my dad..
Its running MIUI..
its rooted has recovery etc..
Im not familar with HTC phones so i dont want to go through the trouble of searching for a rom downloading flasher etc..
So if anyone has the Latest GSM Official 2.3 update can you please link it to me?
Cheers
First item on this link. Be reminded that this will unroot and flash a locked bootloader. You need to use Revolutionary to s-off and be able to flash superuser.

surley ur better off installing a pre rooted stock rom>?
HTC Gingerbread is here:

Fresh download links are here in the thread:

Use Android Flasher to flash the Radio:

On a similar note to this chap, I've also bought my dad a Desire off eBay which is running CM7.1 stable. Problem is, Bluetooth won't release audio back to device speakers (without rebooting the device at least) so I want to reflash stock. My dad's a bit of a brick when it comes to technology, so I don't need the device rooted.
Would you guys recommend just running the official HTC 2.3 RUU?
I'm running the above ROM after trying a few customs which were bloated, buggy and unreliable. It's just the stock 2.3 ROM with root and performance is great!
Sense is a bit of a mess for beginners (e.g. MIUI is a lot cleaner) but it's a very reliable ROM.
Looking through the Desire forums, a lot - possibly most - cases of bricking the phone arise from people trying to s-on their phone, and/or running an RUU.
Yes, you only hear about the problem cases but even so, personally, I wouldn't try to s-on unless you really need to.

Agreed, go with a pre-rooted stock rom.
Plus with stock 2.3 you'll run out of memory for apps pretty quickly, so a rom that uses sd-ext would be best
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
I recently helping my friend's Desire. It has a RunnymedeAIO Rom and he wanted "Sense 4.0 Port Desire VT328T V0.4".I flashed it but it just stuck in "HTC quietly brilliant".
(I used to flash Samsung Roms but I dont really understand how htc phones are flashed.)
Is there anything wrong with my step/other stuff?
Did I had the wrong kernel?
It is a stock revolutionary hboot with revolutionary kernel 4.0.1.4 Amoled Desire.
There is also a 1GB ext4 in it's sdcard
I first install the rom, then wipe data/cache/dalvik cache. After that ,reboot.
Thx a lot.

Do you mean this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...flash 4ext recovery) but it still not work.:(
I mean the thread of that rom. In aroma setup choose stock a2sd and stock launcher i think (choose stock everything) then install and reboot. Some users got it to boot, some didnt, i did. Then if u do get it booted then theres a superuser issue, it dont work but theres some things u got to do to make it work, i couldnt. Anyway u have to read some posts there coz theres few different ways to get things working. Personaly its more hassel than its worth. Also the dev of that rom has started a new sense 4 rom, have a look

Seriously dude if you are doing it for your friend, stop right now. You are only going to give him more reason to bother you because that rom isn't even stable yet.
Thx!!!
I had did all their advices but it still don't work for Sense 4 rom. I tried cooldroid revolution and follow all their advices but still don't work too.
Do I need a CM7r2 hboot instead?
By the way, this desire is not for his daily use.he just don't want to waste the phone and also he wanted to try HTC sense 4as he is using Galaxys3 now.
ok so i rooted my aunts one v cdma on VM because it was lagging so bad. didnt even think about checking radio and hboot to see if she had ran the ota because with my phone i have s-off and i can downgrade at will. anyway she did and i can get roms to boot with sick kernel but the Bluetooth will not work. i have read so many threads and i know its a kernel issue. my question is does anyone have a pure stock kernel that is compatible with the radio and hboot 157 update or does anyone know of another kernel that will boot a JB rom that the Bluetooth works on. i never use Bluetooth but she always has one in her ear so its a must. when i ran the backup b4 i installed the first rom i somehow only backed up the checksum and not the system like a dummy so its either get it to work or buy her a new phone and i dont wanna do that. Please tell me i can fix this!!! thanks in advance.
