Everyone just made a trade today for iphone 4s 64gb for a tegra 3 htc one x. I bricked my phone trying to unroot it wanting some old software back. Stuck on bootloader screen. I don't have access to any files or anything. Please leave download links and very detailed steps. I'm a real dummy. I got it relocked so far and basically want to get it back up and running. Looks like a european version not 100% on that.
Which rom were you on before unrooting? Were you trying to flash an ruu ? What did you do to unroot and at which point did you get stuck ?

I first downloaded the unroot files did the relock by doing the recovery through cmd. I just followed a youtube video and the point it was suppose to restart it gave me that red alert sign and got stuck so I factory reset and it keeps going back to bootloader.

You relock by typing this into your terminal : fastboot oem lock
No additional files needed its just a command
Then download the stock recovery for one x which you can find in a lot of places and this forum as well, put it in your fastboot folder, to make it simpler rename it to something like hoxstockrec.img .. now put your phone in fastboot and in terminal type fastboot flash recovery hoxstockrec.img
I don't know about that unrooting file you were talking about but it probably does its job. Also, are you on stock ROM?

hi im in the exact same situation can you help please?did you figure it out?done what the other guy in this post said and still didnt work
You can install the original 1.29 RUU for European HOX. You need to boot the phone while typing vol down+power button, press fastboot and run the downloaded RUU. You need at least 30% of battery. (Relocked bootloader needed)

well i rooted and put the android revolution rom on, but noticed some problems so i tried it again using another guide which seemed to work, i then decided to unroot and go back to full stock,(lol i know) because i noticed my actualy sd card memory had gone really low so thats why i wanted to just get rid of rooting and the custom rom really ( lool i probably dont make any sense)
I have tryed the same, i cant go back to locked, it will start up like he said.
I rooted and delete the files like the guide said, stock kernel and then bam, only for development? Now i just go with unlocked.
noooo :s what im trying to say is, i cant reboot the phone,it goes into boot loader everytime, just before bootloader the htc splashscreen shows up and a message in red writing stating something like "this build is for development purposes only.." and then goes into bootloader, is it something to do with low battery?
Update: now my phone doesnt even turn on i think its all over

this happens when you have a custom rom/kernel/recovery installed. Go to fastboot mode and unlock your bootloader again with fastboot oem unlock_token **** < - your unlock code.

Hello i have the tc one x and i have alot of problems. when i first bought the phone i rooted it and i was happy. i downloaded root apps and i was set. then i wanted to start flashing roms. so i downloaded a custom rom on my computer, followed all the instructions carefully and it did not work. i had installed clockworkmod and the whole 9 yards. When i would try to boot into recovery mode i would get a security warning and i was not allowed to. i tried many tutorials to install it on to my phone using my computer and command prompt and things like that but that did not work. So i came to the conclusion that i did not unlock my bootloader. so i went through the whole process on htcdev.com and my key was invalid. i had gotten the error 160 and mid not allowed. now i wanted to completely restore and unroot so i deleted superuser and the su files and did the whole thing with fastboot files and command prompt using a video to help me through it. When i was done my phone still said tampred on the bootloader and i got the same security warning error when i tried to restore the phone. so i cannot restore my phone to stock. now my phone cannot recieve att updates and when i try to manually update it is says htcdm has stopped and then after the button does nothing. and many apps stop unexspectedly and i am very upset about this. i have tried unrooting and unlocking bootloader at least 10 times now and nothing works!! PLEASE HELP!!! i really dont want do have to sell my phone and save up for a new one. thank you.

Yup.
First, your not clear with what you actually did.
IS your Phone the AT&T version? If YES, then this is the wrong forum.
Also all you need to do to get a custom ROM running is this.. (in the respective order ) -
1- Unlock using HTC. Your error is probably because you did not clearly read on how to copy the UID part. even one extra character here or there can generate an invalid key.
Follow the instructions to the letter.
2- Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery using fastboot.
3- Before flashing the ROM, from CWM, make a backup of the stock ROM, by going to Backup and Restore - Backup.
4- Wipe Date/Factory reset option in the recovery. Then Goto Mounts section and format /system.
5- Now flash your ROM from the sdcard.
6- PROFIT?
If you are not confident enough to follow each and every instruction to the letter, then flashing custom ROM's is not for you.
From your post i can clearly see that you find the whole process a little too cumbersome. I can be wrong. But please at least be clear what you exactly did. Which ROM did you try to flash? And how did you go back to stock? Which RUU did you use? Was it the correct one?
If your HBOOT says ***LOCKED*** or ***RELOCKED*** then run an RUU and it will remove all warnings, and put your phone back to it's factory state.
how do you run an ruu

Boot into bootloader then go into fastboot and run the ruu that's all but sure thing before doing this u have to flash the stock recovery and kernel and lock bootloader
Y U WANNA KNOW FROM WHERE SENT??
Just download one and run it, dead easy.
But he has to return the recovery and kernel and lock bootloader first
Y U WANNA KNOW FROM WHERE SENT??
His post is so disjointed it's impossible to figure out the state of his bootloader (hence mentioning it), but you don't need to replace kernel and recovery, that's the point of the RUU.

OK that means you're good to go with the RUU if you want to return to stock and have everything working again.
Dude becareful if its saying security warning then your battery is very low, becareful because if the phone drains completely while using ruu the phone would get hard bricked also u can't select ruu you just have to go into fastboot

Ok. Stop.
Where did you get your phone? Is it quad or dual core? What is the model number written on the case?
Before you do more damage, let's figure out what device you have, which forum you need to ask questions in, and what procedures you need to follow.

Right, well, I'm not sure what you've done to it, but this is the wrong sub forum.
If it is an AT&T phone, htcdev won't work.
Best bet is to visit the ONE XL forum. And post what you problems you have, and then what you tried to do before arriving where you are now.
Word of advice, your first post in this thread was awful. It's too long, too confusing and unreadable. Try to cut out as much as you can. I don't care how many yards, that you got instructions from a video, and that the video was hosted on YouTube. Just list what you did to the phone. Use spaces (including vertical spaces), punctuation and bullet points to good effect. End of the day, you want as wide an audience as possible.
Good luck.
Hello fellow One-X'ers, I am coming from a long line of Samsung devices and have only had one HTC phone in the past, (HD2).
I cant for life of me figure out how to root this phone, I have tried the conventional method, alternate root method, im getting nothing... Bootloader will not unlock through htcdev (which it says to do in half of the root how-tos), i always see error 160 invalid MID...
I have installed and updated the following:
-Java
-HTC Mobile drivers as well as sync
-SDK
-Fastboot
wtf am I missing here? I just want to get a new rom as this sense stuff absolutely sucks. Yes I have searched, yes I have read...
What phone have you got? If I remember correctly the "Error 160" / "invalid MID" responses are returned when you try and use HTCDev to unlock the AT&T One X (actually the One XL) which doesn't support unlocking the bootloader in that way.
Boot into the bootloader and check the model name displayed at the top of the screen: if it says "evita" then that's your problem, and you'll need to head over to the forums for your particular device to get some help because none of the stuff in this section will work - http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
If the bootloader shows "endeavoru" then you are in the right place, but in that case I don't know what the problem is.
Uninstall HTC sync, keep the USB drivers mind.

Hello everyone
I've got a problem.. I've recently bought an M8 of my mate who tried to root it and what happened he messed something up and it was stuck in bootloader (until now), I kept reseting the device back to factory settings and it finally booted up and I managed to get to the main screen of the phone however, wherever I go it shows error messages, for example: 'Unfortunately, Messages has stopped' and it keeps popping up on every single app. I am able to get into the settings and access everything there but to me looks like the software has been corrupted (I guess I have not been told the actual truth what the person was doing with the phone).
Now, I need some good help here guys, I'm new to HTC, never had one so I don't really know how flash software on it. What I would like to do is get the root out of it for good and install clean, not modified software. Basically I would like to have the phone as it is from the box. Original, without any modifications on it. I will be really glad if somebody help me as I can't find my answer elsewhere..
Please guide me step by step what to do in this situastion, what software do I use, where do I get the latest non branded genuine, not modified software and how do I wipe the root off the device so it is like new.
Also when I was in bootloader it said this:
*** Software status: MODIFIED ***
***Locked ***
*** Security Warning ***
Any answers will be very much appreciated.
Thank you, Matt.

There is guides to remove root and such but if your phone is S-OFF I recommend never going back S-ON, why?? because S-OFF is impossible to get on the latest firmwares if you ever change your mind.
So alternatively I recommend running a RUU instead, find out what version you have, is it a GSM (AT&T Straight-talk) or CDMA(Sprint/Verizon)?
Then you can get a RUU from the HTC Official Site, its so simple, run the program as Administrator in Windows with your phone plugged in and it will do all the work for you, and your phone will reboot like a brand new phone with no root, in the background will you keep S-OFF of course if you have it already, you should be able to receive OTA updates as well.
Also an extra little hint, if your device is S-OFF and IS GSM then you can run the "developer/unlocked" RUU only if you wish, giving you a more stock HTC experience with no Carrier junk apps.
But how do you check if you have S-OFF or not? an easy way to check currently is to turn off your phone, then hold down VOLUME DOWN and POWER button at the same time until the bootloader screen appears.
If your device is S-ON then from what I believe you can only run the RUU made for your phone "AT&T for example, carrier RUU only"
Troubleshoot RUU: "My phone is not proceeding with the RUU keeps giving me error" put your phone in bootloader mode by the instructions above and make sure you see "FASTBOOT USB" on the screen, if not use the power button to select the "FASTBOOT" button on the screen.
"My phone won't go into bootloader" unplug your USB cable then try doing it.
This entire method should help you without needing any ADB or fastboot knowledge or files, if you simply wish to go back to a stock day 1 experience.
EDIT: Also I forgot to mention you must install the "HTC Sync Manager" from the top of the screen link I sent you, simply install it and then UNINSTALL the HTC Sync Manager app while KEEPING the HTC Driver Installer app... so avoid removing that from your Programs and Features list on Windows, you simply need the drivers without the software but that's the only way I know of how to get the drivers.

Sunshine works fine to s-off latest firmwares, it's not impossible.
@ O.P
Just do the fastboot command :
fastboot getvar all
And post that outcome here WITHOUT your serial and imei number in it (these are personal so delete those lines) then we can check what you need before jumping conclusions to install a certain random ruu ! And check the OS number in the bootloader and tell what it's saying.
Here is also a guide to fastboot
