I've got the old Nexus 7, and now the new one. I'm very disappointed with the new one. I know the GPU is supposed to be faster, but what use is that if we can't have the THD versions of games? Is there any way to get the Tegra-optimized games on the new N7?
The new Nexus 7 does not have an Nvidia Tegra, so no.

Is there a reason why it's incapable? Are there nvidia proprietary APIs or some such that make it impossible to run the THD optimized games? If we've got a faster GPU, why does it even matter, if we can't run the nicer games?
I feel as though your answer was short and not well thought through. It answers the question of "can we" but not "why can't we"
No there's no way to play any tegra games but all this marketing thing will have no sense once Opengles3.0 games will begin to come. (asphalt 8 for example). You will realize by then that you will like your new n7. And no its just that the dev are paid to optimize more the the games that has a tegra chipset. Compare à gameloft game on a tegra vs on a snapdragon, you'll see the difference (snapdragon wise)
That's my assumption though.

Most thd games are available to all since other cpus have better gpus. Even with tegra 4 the snapdragon 800 is supposedly neck and neck or better

There are ways to play THD games, but they are mostly optimized for Nvidia chips specifically.
You probably wont notice a difference between HD and THD

The problem I'm having is that I've paid for THD versions of games, and I can't play them now. I have to repurchase the non-THD versions. I find this very weak.
NVM doesnt work with JB.

Just gonna put this out there, but that hardly seem's like the device is at fault, This is an issue with the developer, and who knows if you bring this up to the developer and ask politely they may be able to accommodate you regarding the non THD variant.
I'm in the same boat with a few THD games... and you know what, for the better device I could care less about the THD versions. Most of them lagged on my old tablet anyways.
What about Chainfire3D? Haven't used that in a long time (on an older device), but it looks to still be around. Does that let you play THD?

This is what I was about to write before I nvmed. Chainfire 3d isn't compatible with JB and thus can't be used for this case.

Hey all,
I recently got my galaxy nexus. I have seen the Nvidia Tegra Zone & Qualcomm Gamecommand. I was wondering whether there was an equivalent for Texas Instruments.
If not, are there any games that run particularly well on the T.I CPU for this phone?
Thanks!
there is not a TI app like nvidia but the phone should handle anything thrown at it. modern combat 2 and 3, shadowgun, nova, GTA3, madden...they all run fine.
Oh, I felt slightly left out when nvidia altered apps release their thd version for games and we are unable to play them as we are incompatible.
It plays games as good or better than my galaxy tab 7+ with exynos! TI is no joke and I seriously under estimated it. What a nice surprise!

Just install Chainfire 3D and you can install all the Tegra games from the Market and they run perfectly, really shows off what the GN is capable of and the games look so good on our 4.65" 720p screen
I really hate THD and QualComm's GameCommand. It separates the Android community again and is all marketing.
Pretty much to what keyz86 said, Chainfire 3D ftw! If it wasn't for this app.. we'd be in trouble.
I contacted gl to let them know about the issues with tegra 3 and they are already aware about it and are working on it
soon we will get to enjoy gameloft games lag free on our HOX
HIT THANKS if i helped!!!!!!
It's the halo effect of the N7. Now that Google's pushing Teg3 by putting in one of their devices that's destined to sell in the tens of million you'll see a lot of app developers that ignored Teg3 or never optimized for it getting on board. The N7 is the best thing that ever could have happened to Teg3.

Nice! My one x will be a little bit happier once this happens as we've recently opened up our gpu speeds to FAST :good:Thanks faux123
I already saw that but I don't think it's true, Gameloft guys are just a bunch of liars, I went to their forum and they're most of the time ignoring the Tegra 3 related complaints or answering the exact same way they answered to you (it's like if they're all doing a ctrl+c-ctrl+v)
And, considering the way Asphalt 7 and The Amazing Spider Man (this game doesn't even support post-treatment for Tegra 3!) were optimised for Tegra 3 and considering that Gameloft had time to do the work before releasing these apps, I guess that nVidia didn't pay the extra money Samsung paid to get properly optimised apps...
Even The Dark Knight Rises was not THAT well optimised...
Considering all that I would assume that Gameloft developpers don't know their work or what "optimising" means but considering how Gameloft games work on SGS2 and SGS3 I think that Samsung just paid some money...
They said the same to me and I really complained bout mc3 because I loved that on my xplay I put a good bit of money onto it and that sent me a t3 version but it lags abit online ill try and find the email

This is just an unoptimised version with device check deactivated so it runs but lags...
By the way, Modern Combat 3 is available on the Play Store for the One X but I assume it's again not properly optimised and I won't spent a dime again to Gameloft after seeing the "amazing" work they did with Asphalt 7...

That isn't optimizing, it's butchery!
Just look at Hamdir's thread on Wildblood & Gameloft optimization! You'll see it only uses one core out of all 12 on the HOX, that's not optimizing my friend...

correction it uses 1 core out of 4 CPU cores i wasnt talking about GPU
CPU can be used to accelerate all the particles and physics processing, which GL chose to ignore the extra 3 cores
looking at Nova3 you can see its smooth but once you have around 3 enemies with their phsycis simluation, it lags bad, the CPU is the ideal place to deal wtih physics and ragdoll but yea, what can i say, its GL, they are spoiled and like the GPU to do all the job and not bother with multithreaded coding
I wonder if the extra 200 mhz in the HOX+ will help in this lag issue.

I doubt it'll be a major improvement if at all. If you consider the fact that it will still be using one core.
I'm no expert in this field but one thing i can say for sure is that operating with just one single core is dependent on the type of game....and If gameloft games are more demanding as i assume in terms of graphics (i don't really game much if at all on phones) then using just that one core is ridiculous, especially if you consider the fact that we are talking about gaming and even further if we are talking about a GAMING PHONE with a quad-core.

It always comes down to optimization. With that i mean capable hardware, and i'm sure tegra 3, despite not having the greatest graphic hardware is capable
This can be seen in computer games benchmarks. Since i'm planning for a pc upgrade and i'm deciding upon a graphic card, i don't recall exactly which one that was. But there was an incident where a radeon graphic card hit a somewhat better score than the nvidia card. At that point i already thought i knew "hey, we have a winner here already"
..next page there was a game again, where nvidia had clearly beaten the radeon graphic card, where the frame difference was even bigger. Then in other games they performed similarly.
So really, optimization is what it comes down to for capable hardware.
Hahahahaha.. I'm really laughing out loud.. if this real.. no need for me and @Hamdir waste the whole week for Wildblood..

That's just crazy, you think Gameloft would want to sort its games out so they work properly on the flagship device of one of the world's biggest phone manufacturers, not to mention the official google tablet uses the same processor.

Well yea you'd think so... Gamelofts version of optimising for nexus 7 means allowing it to run it. It's not optimised at all. For example, there was a hox version of modern combat 3, which ran beautifully. Nexus 7 play store downloads a version that runs like a really quick slide show. nova 3 on the hox, the version I tried, had all effects like the iphone4 version. It did run like crap also. The nexus play store version runs similar, but doesn't have the smoke and lighting effects. Dark knight runs steppy, etc...etc... Hamdir is running a thread to make tegra games 60fps... This is a whole other issue, getting games above 30fps on a cutting edge chipset. Especially as I've seen my friend play nova 3 on his sensation at what I perceived as 60fps. It looked amazing!!

man again u r not being fair, I played on the sensation its 60fps with every effect disabled, n I mean dead flat no reflection on any surface
mass effect v1.30 on the hox had much less effect n ran over 60fps
also sgs3 runs nova3 at 60fps with everything on, ripetide runs very badly
effects on the hox for nova is a luck issue the game gets confused by the 3d dots menu and turns them on
with a custom kernel like faux004b6 nova3 runs very well
the gaming app, faux kernel and my guide proves there is nothing wrong with tegra its just software issues
all HTC has to do is include a performance profile

I believe I'm being pretty fair? Gameloft need to pull their finger it and get optimising for tegra. Whilst I get what youre doing on hox, and the need for performance profiles, the same issues with Gameloft games are present on the nexus 7, whikt tegra games are just smoother out of the box than hox was. Its gamelofts issues here, not tegra.

I was wondering if there was a way I could play THD (Tegra 3) exclusive games on my Note 2. I'm sure this phone is more capable than the Tegra 3, and I would love to play some of those games optimized for the quad-core chips. Also, is it possible to do this without root?

I know that there were tegra drivers that you could install on other devices to play tegra 2 games on non-tegra devices. I had my old epic touch rooted and playing THD exclusive games. I was just wondering if there was a work-around to get tegra 3 games to work on non-tegra devices as well.
Try chainfire 3d. Havent tried it on any tegrs 3 titles but it worked quite well on tegra 2 exclusives with my adreno phones. Dont know if its mali compatible. Would be a good report back for those smug posters that dont know about wrappers.

You do realize how dumb this question is?
1. This has been discussed in other threads.
2. I never saw an android device that ran all the games in the play store.
It is a powerful device and can handle many games but certain games will not be compatible.

Most games are profiled via gpu type each has their own compressed texture type,
If textures don't uncompress they'll appear as white instead.
Adreno - ATITC
Tegra - DXT / S3TC
PowerVR - PVRTC
thankfully GLTools can uncompress between them all, it can also downscale higher res textures and screen res for an fps boost.
Some games are also blacklisted via device for instance Ridge Racer Slipstream works sideloaded on my Nexus 7 2013 but has slowdowns into corners when the drifting smoke effect is applied.
ASTC, EAC, ETC2 is supported by all opengles 3.0 compatible gpu.
ETC1 is supported by all opengles 2.0 compatible gpu.

Try to ignore rude people with bad tudes. This tablet has the "power" to play any game on the market, the only road blocks are certain games tailored for other chips. There are ways around each obsticle however. I am unaware of any games that do not have some way to be made to play on this tablet. The only "dumb" question is the one you dont ask.
I've had mine for three months now, and I have yet to find a game that doesn't run well... All the GTA's run, as well as Injustice Gods Among Us. And that minecraft game that is turning my children into the same type of zombie that the Atari 2600, and the NES did to me back in the day
