[Q] Root/Downgrade to 4.1.1 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I just bought a used Note 2 yesterday and am looking to root it. It is completely stock 4.1.2 right now. I am looking to downgrade to the root injected 4.1.1 so I can access the hidden menu to unlock it for other carriers. 4.1.2 doesn't have the right options in the menu to achieve that.
With that being said, I just want to be sure, being COMPLETELY stock 4.1.2 right now like I am; I can flash the root injected stock 4.1.1 ROM via odin with no issues? I don't need root PRIOR to flashing 4.1.1 by doing the CF Auto Root? Thanks a lot in advance.

I believe a similar question like yours has been asked already in this section...

[Q] Root Koodo i747M 4.1.2

Hello,
I am currently searching how to root my Koodo Galaxy SIII i747M running stock 4.1.2 downloaded via OTA about two months ago. I know there is a lot of tutorials on how to do this but they never refer to Koodo and I don't want to take any chances. I'd like to just root it without installing a custom rom or anything, i just want to freeze some apps such as the updater always trying to install 4.3 and try some root features. If I root can i go back to stock while keeping the warranty and if yes, how? Is my flash counter (is it called like that?) going to change if I root? How can I root my Koodo s3?
Thanks.
You can use the same procedure as for the at&t version of the phone. They are virtually identical. Not sure about the flash counter as I've never worried too much about that.

Do the steps outlined in that post. It also works for koodo make sure you download the correct file. This will not trip flash counter.
And yes you can always flash back to stock at a later date if you want.

[Q] Rooting without tripping Knox

Hi,
Since updating to 4.3 (biggest mistake I've made), I've been looking for root methods or a way to downgrade back to 4.1.2. I tried the De La Vega Root method but that didn't end up working out. I heard Kingo and VROOT are malicious. I was going to try the CF Auto Root Method but I don't want to trip my Knox Counter because I've heard I won't get any future updates if I do so. What methods are available to root my phone or downgrade it back to 4.1.2?
Phone: Galaxy S3 (SGH-i747M on Rogers Wireless)
Baseband Version: I747MVLUEMK5
Build Number: JSS15J.I747MVLUEMK5
I think I have the same problem as you. But are you unable to get further updates if you remove knox?

As of now, trying to downgrade will brick your phone. Rooting thus far will most likely trip counter. For now, there is nothing you can do but ride out and hope there is a solution. I would not try anything further until something is confirmed to be working. You are taking a chance on bricking your device otherwise.
Flash TWRP via odin (newest one). When rebooting from the recovery screen, accept to install root. Once you boot the phone, install the SuperSU via TWRP and the phone will reboot. Once booted up again, open SuperSU and you'll receive a prompt to remove KNOX, click yes. You're done.
Thx for advice

Has this been tested to not trip knox counter?
From everything I have read, the Knox counter will be tripped.
From Chainfire re i9505 (https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/ZKuMQ3fNzuN):
Knox Warranty on new I9505 ROMs
As I've stated before, my dev version of Triangle Away is currently operational (though not yet released) for the flash counter and binary status with the new Knox I9505 ROMs.
If you have an I9505 you've probably noticed the new Knox Warranty status in the bootloader, and I know some of you are hoping Triangle Away will reset that.
Unfortunately, that's unlikely. I've taken a look around, I've disassembled the bootloader, etc, and it looks like an efuse might be involved ( == not resetable ). I'm not exactly sure what triggers it yet either.
Mind you, I'm not a bootloader expert nor have I spent hours and hours digging through it, so there's a chance this information might turn out to be wrong later - but that's what it currently looks like to me.
If you were on 4.11 or 4.1.2, you would not have knox on your phone and rooting would not be a problem. You would just need to reset the flash counter for warranty purposes.

Dude you have to try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
I was experiencing the same issue, but I used this method to root my telus s3 i747m on 4.3. Since you claim that you are on rogers download the 4.3 rogers root file and flash it via odin.
Here's a root method that allows you to keep knox. I haven't tried it out myself but I know that the no knox version works perfectly.

[Q] Samsung GS3 i747 - Help Needed

Hello, I'm new to this forum although I've been following most of the threads. I have a Galaxy S3 by AT&T, unlocked and running stock 4.1.1 before I decided to flash to CM. Didn't like a few things about CM so I tried to Odin back to stock 4.1.1. Got to pass quite alright but the phone wont boot back up and now seems bricked. I've read about problems others have had with bricking trying to downgrade from stock 4.3 to other earlier versions on this particular phone model. I, however, thought this was a problem with stock rom only and CM had taken care of the dreaded knox and secure bootloader?
How do I fix this brick and get the phone back up and running? I'd greatly appreciate the steps laid out in plain English a newbie would be able to comprehend easily enough. Thanks
Did you go into recovery and do a factory reset?

Just wondering then if it's possible to switch to CM or any knox-free custom rom from stock 4.3 on the AT&T Galaxy S3? If so, it would seem to be a convenient workaround to the problems users have expressed trying to downgrade from 4.3 to 4.1.1 in order to free unlock their phones. I mean .. first install a custom rom and then odin back to stock 4.1.1 to unlock and, thereafter, upgrade either back to stock or a preferred custom rom? Would this be possible?
You can't downgrade from the stock 4.3 bootloader to an older bootloader. Trying to flash an older bootloader will brick the phone.
You need to be on stock 4.1.1 in order to use the free unlock method. A custom 4.1.1-based ROM will not have the required menu options.

Thanks. Maybe I didn't phrase my question properly ... I mean is it possible to go to from stock 4.3 to a custom ROM based on 4.3 (or newer) e.g. CM11? I understand you can't downgrade from stock 4.3 to an older bootloader which is why I'm asking if a workaround involving stock 4.3 to custom 4.3 based and then back to stock 4.1.1 is possible? I don't know if anyone has been able to successfully flash custom 4.3 based to the AT&T version of the GS3 running stock 4.3.

You should be able to flash anything as long as its listed as a bootloader. I believe only kit kat ROMs have vleumk5 as a boot installer

Hello @serein1,
Are you 100% sure you completed the saferoot instructions completely? Also, a good way to test if you do have root is to download Root Checker Also from mine and my friends experience with samsung repairs, they don't care about having a rooted status or a custom status if it has to do with hardware. But, Not everyone is the same at samsung ... Also check if Knox is voided because safe root does not trigger Knox to be disabled. Lastly, if you don't want to risk not getting it repaired I would flash Stock rom using Odin.
Downgrade to stock 4.1.2 rom, then root it, use triangle away to reset the counter and then do the compete unroot.
Done.

I am sorry to hijack the topic but have about the same prob.
eally just need a link for a stock rom 4.1.2 and the instructions to make it work with odin.
I mean where to put the files in pda phone and so on.
Thanks everyone
I have tried the instructions as mentioned for the safe root
it gives error unsupported device and then goes away
there's another thing I have noticed the safe root command prompt window on the top says S4 and not note 2 however I have downloaded the safe root from the note 2 forum section
The knox counter is already set to 1 now DAMN
I also would like to go back to the 4.1.2 and while downgrading using the ODIN it says unsupported on the phone screen and doesn't flashes the phone
How do we downgrade from the 4.3 that has the knox to the 4.1.2
thanks again

Try to find some firmware on sammobile site or here on xda (just search for the word stock).
After that You put the phone into a download mode, connect it to a PC and choose the downloaded (extracted) firmware under the pda/ap button.
Thanks that worked and it is back to stock now.
Now just get the flash counter back to 0 again.
Everything worked out fine and is temporarly replaced by an s3

@ikkeenjij36 how come you can downgrade to stock 4.1.2? Can you show me? What I know is that, bootloader from MK4 above cannot be downgraded, unless you're MJ5 and you need to use Dr.ketan bootloader patch.

I think You can flash some 4.1.2 ROM via CWM and then You will be able to flash some stock 4.1.2.
