setting up sprint s3 on vm??? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

hey so my sprint s3 is setup to run on vm, via my donor. i cant seem to get text or calls at the moment could use assistance
update: i called virgin and they reset my acct, now i have text and calling, still could used assistance getting mms and data going possibly 3g?

hey so the s3 is running on virgin data sms calls and im testing mms now...
the phone says 3g but i know the s3 likes to be in 1x and say 3g, so i ran a speed test, its dl 111k up 152k id say thats at 1x speed correct?
anyway i set it up to run at 3g, and the signal is less than it could be, it has the virgin stock prl, "same as evo v"
will a faster sprint prl fix 3g speed or do you guys think i missed something?
i also noticed it takes a few seconds to connect to mobile network

PRL has almost nothing to do with data speeds

Thanks, ill keep that in mind.

I thought they changed it so you could bring any sprint phone to use on virgin mobile or boost? Plus, has anyone noticed that you can purchase an s3 outright on virgin mobile for 339 online? It is around 650 on the big 4 carriers. Strange, since the virgin and sprint phone are probably pretty similar.

Yea they offer the s3 on virgin but I got my s3 at an 1/8th of the vm price @ $399 where I am. Boost and sprint both offer phone swaps. I called vm and they were very persistant on the fact only vm phones were allowed on there network.
The reason data is low on the s3 I have Is due to bad service, both other phones I that are here get great signal and are on 61009 and the s3 is on 61008

ok so after testing the phone, mms is not working, i believe that 3g is also not working even though it says 3g.
i tried manually inputting the mms settings as well under data menu
i did update to the newest virgin prl and it added 2-3 bars and better service...
i can ad screenshots of dfs, and the phone if needed, can i save the settings from the evo v in dfs and transfer them over???

anyone get data working on verizon??

ive been able to get data with boost and cricket with the Epic and talk and text to work with verzon anybody have any luck at all i have cdma workshop paid version so it shouldnt be to hard...i thought
Would be nice. Sprint data speeds are getting worse everyday (at least in my area) . When I talked to them they said it was not their networks fault but my phones fault. Must be everyone else I know has a bad phone to then. I might have to drop Sprint soon. I don't want to but 40kbs down and 8 up is ridiculous. My friends who have US Cellular for abot same price are getting approximately 200 down and 80 up! When I started Sprint I would get around 150 down and 70 up on this phone

edit
best speed ive got from this epic is about 250k down and 120k up using eh17 modem and supposely a corporate sprint 21081 has only happened once in my house where i do most of my test at. most of the time its less then 100k :-( i jus came across another epic which im going to make vzw data work on it its already matches the vzw doner phone talk txt work. i jus retired my htc titan a few months ago getting 300k easy in this same area. i had 2 of them one from verizon one from sprint both working on vzw with all features. 2 diff accounts. on the epic ive noticed the roaming signal will not leave me alone even with a modified sprint prl for verizon which fixed it on my mogul/titan. i think my evdo keys are correct. full copy. data works on doner phone. i believe the dmu 10.key is not needed since they were already generated might try and play around with the um properties in qpst tomorrow
those speeds are from my boost mobile account

I have the paid version of the newest cdma workshop and pulled the info from my doner. its a LG VX10000S.
update: ive been doing some research at work today and i believe now its because of the roaming triangle i was getting which was not allowing evdo to connect i hear only certain modified sprint prls designed for verizon towers will get rid of the Triangle. the one i had used before with my mogul is not one of them anymore,..
Well guys to bring an old post back to life....
An Epic 4G with full unlimited data working on verizon prepaid is the ish.....
I also have the epic with verizon all the unlimited data. Have you gotton any other phones to work also?

The NV items could be in different locations on newer phones. There are other ways to read and write the AAA password.

At&t hspa+/vpn question

So I recently upgraded to s3 from my captivate and the internet is significantly slower than when I was on my captivate . I tried flashing all the available modems and the VPN settings I can find on here and my down was 1.4mbs and .160mbs up (was 3-5mb down and 1.1 up on my captivate) I tried dialing *#2263# but it doesn't let me open up the menu to check the bands to see if hsupa is enabled .
BTW I don't have the lte sim I cut my old sim down. They said if I upgrade my sim they will remove my unlimited data . But I don't see why it would matter since this is just a hspa + issue and I don't have lte here yet anyways. And I'm on lh1 modem currently .
So any one have any either ideas to fix this issue?

I upgraded from S to S3 with AT&T in late June, got new SIM and my data plan remains unlimited. Did you get phone from corporate store or franchise?

Yup corporate. My rep told me they don't know how I'm still on this plan because they got rid of unlimited for awhile now. The account shows that my captivate was using dumb phone internet lol. So he said if I change the sim card number they wouldn't be able to select the same plan through his portal. I don't wanna pay an extra 20$ for only 4gb on Lte when I can keep the unlimited for less with hspa. So I'm trying to work my way around it.

Well, I know Verizon stopped grandfathering unlimited data plans for existing customers last spring if they upgraded their phone to LTE model, but I had no problem keeping mine with AT&T, who I've been with for more than a dozen years.
Well I just don't get why the speed is slower than my captivate . And I can't get into ussd settings to verify the bands for hsupa and such.

Thinking about going to Straight Talk

So I am thinking about going to over staight talk.I did a litlle research but couldnt find anything definite. I was wondering how well it has been working for other people. Do I have to flash an AT&T radio? What are the apn settings? All that type of jazz

I'm using the AT&T sim card through straight talk. You can get a T-mobile sim but I don't have any experience with that.
I am using the default tmobile radio. I get much better signal through that with AT&T than any radio I used with Tmobile in my area. 3g speeds only but it's an acceptable trade off for me (better signal and $600 bucks/year savings).
Use the APN settings on the straight talk webpage.
I currently use straight talk with the T Mobile SIM card and reception and data speeds are both fine for me. I haven't run a lot of speed test or anything of that nature but service works, calls work, I receive SMS and MMS messages promptly, and thus far have had a little issue with anything. I also managed recently to Zero my IMEI. No effect on service.
Was able to get a discounted rate and used a cash back card also, and got my monthly service down to $36, which I locked in with 8 months reserve. Am on month 3 and have yet to regret leaving post Paid T-Mobile.

I have ST on my gs2 right now with the new sbean 13.5 ROM . The service is def nice . I pay 45 a month and I get unlimited service. Even though its frowned upon I still tether my phones internet connection and it works great as well. My speeds with straight talk on at & t are about 7megs down with 1 meg up , I play minecraft on my laptop at park with no issues as well. Ping is usually around 120-180 but if you tether through USB instead of a WiFi hotspot it will bring it down to were games are playable .

Is it Possible to Connect to Other Carrier's Data Networks?

I'm on a rooted T-Mobile phone running CM10.1 nightlies and have T-Mobile as my carrier. I go to the Catskills a lot, and, except when I'm in a "big" town, I'm on Edge (literally and figuratively). I'm told that AT&T and Verizon have better infrastructure up there than does T-Mobile.
I tried enabling national data roaming and selecting LTE/GSM/WCDMA under network mode settings, but then when I search for network operators it takes forever and doesn't find anything.
What do I need to do to be able to connect to the other carriers' networks, or is it even possible?
Thanks for any advice.
I almost sure that your account needs to have roaming data enabled and carriers to have roaming agreement. I remember during storm Sandy Tmo and Att shared towers for a while and phone automatically connected to stronger provider. This is not phone issue. Other providers not allowing you on theirs networks.

In short. No. You can't. There are some areas where we can roam on att but they're limited ans you only get 50 megs of domestic roaming data.
Sent from my SGH-T889
Thanks very much for your responses. I guess I'll look into getting another phone on one of those other carriers. Maybe prepaid for only when I go up there. Or maybe just a prepaid sim, if that even exists. I never researched it.
Thursday my Note 2 popped onto AT&T randomly. I just happened to be looking at my signal widget and it showed at&t, I was in a decent tmo location as well but on wifi. Wierd.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
I have seen my phone connected to att and also 311660.. which I believe is MetroPCS

The last time it happened to me, Calls worked just fine. I got to test data since I blew through the roaming limi.
But this was last year when I had the One S. It even had 4G/HSPA on AT&T. Except the roaming limit was so low I blew through it in a few minutes.
I should also mention this happened to me when I was driving through/in Colorado/Arizona

I can confirm, my G3 (D851) is on Cricket. Use the APN settings from Cricket (do a Google Search for "Cricket Wireless APN") and you should have 4G LTE service. I have yet to run into an issue with the MMS.
Keep in mind that Cricket throttles their HSPA 3G Network at 4 Mbps and their 4G LTE network at 8 Mbps. I've tried MetroPCS as well, but in my estimation Cricket is better overall call coverage. After all, what good is 35-45 Mbps if you can't get a signal half the time??
I'm happy to answer any other questions if you have them. Always glad to help!

My MMS would work sporadically. I tried changing the APNs to use actual IP address numbers rather than the "names". Nothing worked. Finally, I noticed that sometime my browser would not work when my MMS did not work even though I was connected with LTE data. On a hunch, I changed my mobile data to use "GSM.WCDMA" as the preferred network mode (rather than the LTE auto one). This seems to have cleared up the MMS issues for my phone. Hope this helps some one...
