Flashing the Epic 4G Touch to Cricket

If anyone wants to take a stab at the MMS, please do. Now that root has been achieved due to Shabbypenguin and ACS, getting this to work on the 45 dollar plan should not be a problem also...
I'm not at home and don't really have time to play with this device anymore. I should be studying or else I'll fail Jumpmaster school...

If a person buys an Epic already flashed to cricket then i assume i can follow the above instructions to flash back. But what would be the settings i flash back to? Or is there a quick and easy way to get it back to sprint?

I too would like to know if this is possible. I just purchased a clean esn Epic Touch 4g from ebay, but I am paying off the 1000$ dollars I owe sprint, so I will flash for cricket now, but will eventually need to get back onto sprint with the same phone.
I can follow guides pretty good on using QPST as my Epic 1 is flashed by me but, without them I'm rather lost!
Can someone please answer this question?

I would backup the QPST settings and also see if there is a full ODIN for the device. That would probably take it back to stock in a hurry.

I found this too so I imagine this guy got MMS working. Interesting for those in areas where there's no 4G. Can't beat $45 a month and Cricket's 3G can't be any worse than Sprint's other than signal strength. (considering Cricket buys their bandwidth from Clear).

Cricket has their own towers in some areas and uses Sprint in others (MVNO). Clear provides Sprint with WiMax 4G. They're all trying to transition over to LTE. I can't think of one thing Cricket would go to Clear for right now.

Seriously, I was looking for actual proof. Like a news source or a press release or something that can be vetted for authenticity.
What spectrum are they using? They don't own any there so how are they building the network?
If they are actually doing this why has there been no information released ANYWHERE?

I just bought one for my girlfriend and it was already flash to cricket and right now its having signal issues, so I was wondering what is the best modem and prl combo for cricket wireless.

Cricket has coverage in LA already. I have Cricket and have used my phone many times in LA. Also, look at their coverage map: http://www.mycricket.com/coverage/maps/wireless (enter 90013, select Los Angeles, zoom out).
Do they have little cricket booths where you can buy phones? No. Maybe that's what he meant was 'coming' to LA, but I've been using my phone in LA since 2009.

Rooted and CWM my epic 4gt, now how do I flash to straight talk and activate?

My ep4gt is rooted and CWM, but where do I find the rom for straight talk? I assume I need a rom to make this work on the ST unlimited plan.
Once flashed, how do I activate on ST?

You can't. Straight Talk uses T-Mobile's network which is GSM/AWS, and requires a sim card. This phone is CDMA only.

Straight Talk is CDMA (through Verizon) And no it hasn't been/ cannot be done as far as I know.

ST uses ATT, Verizon, and t mobile afaik.
There are mulitiple services on ebay offering to flash your cdma phone over to ST on the verizon network.

I PM'ed him,no reply yet as to if there is a way to do this without paying to have this done.

Id save over a 100 a month if I could switch my lines to straight talk. Im kind of interested in this also, but its something ill want to do myself and not through ebay.

For Android phones, Straight Talk uses Sprint. They signed a contract back some months ago. They are not ties to a specific provider and will use what makes sense for them, so it could change over time.

Well these phones when flashed use the verizon network. There are lots of youtube videos where they call some number and it tells you the provider.
So i'm seeing that this is a paid for service only (to have phone flashed to ST)

Interesting. 2 people I know with ST, and both phones have SIM cards. Granted, both are clamshells, but good to know.

I bought two ST phones last year, the Samsung qwerty slider, and the one that looks like a blackberry. They were both cdma and ran off the Verizon network. They had bars where my sprint phone did not. I guess different regions use different carriers to piggy back on. There is no T-Mobile coverage in a 10 mile radius where I live.

I'm sure Straight Talk is willing to use whatever makes the most sense for them so I wouldn't be surprised if they switch stuff around over time.

Maybe this process goes around that? But I have confirmed that these phones do work on the vrz network.

I switched mine to Alltel $45/month unlimited talk text and web but it roams does anybody else who flashed their epic touch always have a roaming indicator? Also my sprint 4g still works

how did you flash yours?

I have my ET4G running on prepaid Platinumtel. You can take any Sprint (Android is easiest) phone and "hack" it to run on any Sprint MNVO network easy (with some diligent research on the web) such as Platinumtel, Virgin etc. I can't say how here, only that it can be done

Update:
You have to start the port process 24 hours before the idiot starts the flash process. It's not really a flash though.
It uses the verizon towers, no question. You can change around your prl's to determine which towers you wish to use.

Not getting 3G after ESN mod

Anybody out there using this phone and getting proper 3G after doing the ESN mods for a different carrier? I did the steps using the 2 different passwords and have been messing around with quite a few things but it is downloading between 50 and 250K but most of the time down in the 50k range. Dialup speeds on this phone is HORRIBLE!
I'm still on the stock rom so that I can use those dialer codes and check some things off. I did a PRL update to that 11 something PRL and that hasn't helped.
Anybody have some suggestions on where I should be checking next? All of the guides I was finding were for the old epic and some of my menus are different on this S2
I'm actually still using sprint as a provider but the donor phone was a TP2. Reasoning is a legacy plan and cannot afford the extra $20/mnth just for a phone.

I think you are better off using the tp2.

You clearly haven't used something like a TP2 any time recently. I've tried tons of roms and plenty of android variations for it. There is simply no way to make it anywhere near a decent speed. Even roms stripping everything out except basic phone stuff its just horrible. I have an evo shift on its way with a bad ESN I'm gonna play with too whenever that shows up to see if I can get it working on that phone.
In the old epic threads not having 3G working was a common problem but I just haven't figured out why mines not working yet after following several tips I found in the old epic threads.

I could be wrong but I don't think the how-to clone esn discussion is allowed here.

you're wrong
if you cant get 3g you have the wrong aaa key.

wrong aaa key or PPP isnt set correctly. i like to write the profiles manually in qpst service programming.. then write the 1192 nv item(in hex) via cdma ws.

Isn't the fastest 1x speed just under 150 kbps? If you're getting up to 250 kbps then it seems like you are getting 3G, even though you're at 50 kbps most of the time. Did you check your speeds with the TP2 to see if they were similar?

I ended up checking on the TP2 and a couple other peoples non modified phones and was getting the same exact results. Apparently 3g speeds are absolute trash around kalamazoo, MI. The phone is actually my wifes and we haven't been out around my moms house about 40 minutes NW to try anything away from town. You would think a larger town like this would have better speeds.
during the day my speed is commonly around 50k with random spikes into the low 200 range. The only times I ever get 300+ is at night when there just aren't as many people using the network.
Network being used is sprint. I did screw around with roaming and forced it over to verizon to do some testing and instantly got better speed but I quickly went back because pulling a ton of roaming data is the fastest way to get a contract terminated which I dont want since I'm on an old, cheap plan.
So thanks for your answers guys but apparently the answer is sprint data SUCKS!

things like guides are not allowed but if you do some searching there is a TON of oddball questions that are related to the subject being talked about and some of them are massive threads. The line seems to be somewhere around telling people exactly how to do it.

Sprint has sent me a termination letter for excessive roaming and cutting me off July 3. This is probably for the best because my new job has 0 sprint coverage (deep inside a building) and i've been roaming on verizon for the last 2 months while at work. Anyway, I do love my epic 4g touch and while there are other phones that are now "superior" I'd prefer to keep it if possible.
So my quesiton is:
What other providers can I use with an E4GT, and how much work does it take to switch? (Flashing, odin, etc). And also, what would I lose in terms of 4g/3g/MMS, etc I'd prefer prepaid services like boost or cricket but of course, I don't know if they have coverage where I work but having all options on the table would be helpful!

I think it can be flashed to metro pcs, boost mobile, and virgin mobile. There's a couple threads around here giving you exact instructions in how to do so so check those out. I believe you'll lose 4g except with metro and everyhing else should be good.

Virgin Mobile is launching their 4G WiMax service at the end of the month. Something to look into.

Page Plus (VZW) is really your only option as the rest of the MVNO's listed here are Sprint. So same/no service.

Best off selling it and getting a new phone honestly.

I thought it varied by region for the reselling companies?

You can flash it to anything cdma. You would need a donor phone though. you would most likely only lose wimax.

Ok time to give it to you raw..... (No Homo!) This is what you need to do my friend, go to google type in prepaid services and your zip code. See what pops up for your area then make some phone calls to them and ask them about their service in your area. Secondly you can then go to all of their respective sites and check out the deals. You may find like mentioned that selling the phone and purchasing lets say a T-mobile branded Galaxy 2 and using Simple Mobile may work better for you.
I understand trying to ask your fellow members but honestly what we are going to tell you I am sure you already know. Lastly, check with others in your area and see if one of the other big 3 work extremely well in your area that you desire the coverage and then check out their prepaid services

AT&T - H2O
Verizon - Page Plus
Sell your phone for $250 purchase another Galaxy 2 for around $300 or work a trade out with someone.... Time to do some homework my friend... Get close with Google...

So it seems the only cdma carriers that use/resell verizon are pageplus and of course, verizion. Can an epic 4g touch be flashed to either of those?

Awesome! How hard was it to flash it to straight talk? Any links would be helpful! I've never done a flash to another carrier so i'm not sure how hard it is exactly. So so far to get verizon coverage I can use:
Verizon resellers that work on an epic 4g touch (flashed):
Page Plus
Verizon Prepaid
Straight Talk
Sprint resellers
Boost Mobile
Cricket
US cellular?
MetroPCS
Virgin Mobile
If any of that is wrong let me know.

I flashed mine to Page Plus. Followed this guide, talk text and data work, but I am still working on removing the hidden Sprint APN settings to get MMS working.
It might seem a little intimidating, but it was pretty easy.

question is, if he had to roam at work because Sprint obviously did not have tower close enough, then wouldn't Boost be a waste of time because you can't roam with boost, or virgin mobile for that matter, meaning he would just not have service where he works.

Thanks for that link, its awesome. I will likely go the page plus route though after googling the new phones im on the fence now, lol. The Galaxy note may be coming to t-mo as is the SIII. I don't want to spend $700 on a new phone, but if I can get $275 for my E4GT i'd be willing to pay maybe $500 and just eat the difference. I have until about June 20 to make my decision. At this point it'll either be new phone or page plus / straight talk flashed E4GT. I am pretty sure sprint doesn't set my ESN to bad on my epic just because they are booting me. If they do I'll be pretty irate.

if 4g is available in your area you can purchase a modem for it (clear wire, time Warner,net zero,etc) and use its MAC addy on your et4g as to still have 4g, I'll edit my post when I'm on my laptop to link to the thread with instructions to do that....

Have the same issue, you may want to try and port to Google Voice, terminate your Sprint account this will automatically happen once a port takes hold of the account number. Let the account terminate; start a new line of service from one of the big three or back to yellow shortly after.If you love the E4GT, go back to yellow the next cycle with a new bis/indiv. account and port your number back. Not happy or locked into the contract just prl flash back to the reason you most likely got terminated and then go over to big red when the SIII is released. Done and done... you'll keep the same phone if on yellow with little loss, and no ETF...

Can you explain what you are saying more for me? im getting kicked off due to a roaming issue on the 18th (tomorrow) and this is my business number so i need to keep it, however the 2nd line is fine on yellow which doesnt make any sence since its a business share plan so they told me that i can keep the 2nd line but will need to go to another carrier with the primary, dont care for limits on data so verizon seems like my only option but are you saying to take the number back to yellow after switching to another? cause they told me i could try after the new carriers 2 year contract but cant gaurentee ,,,but i thinkk that might have been a wink wink in the conversation from the yellow lady. i wouldnt mind switching to ver. prepay with my E4gt just to keep things smooth for now so if anything can you point me to a thread to do this (preferably wo a donor but i do have an old verizon prepay, its the one that flips both regular and landscape style, so would this one work as a donor, it has been activated before tho....thanks

Sprint S3 on Page Plus; help enabling 3G

I'm using a Sprint S3 on Page Plus that I purchased off ebay. The voice/text/data work just fine but the data speed is 1X and I'd like to somehow get the 3G to work. Can someone help me with that?

Using a Sprint GS3 on Page Plus may mean that the 3G won't work. As Page Plus operates on Verizon's network, the Sprint radios in your GS3 won't operate on Verizon's 3G frequencies. Your best bet would have been to buy a Verizon GS3 as you likely could have gotten the 3G to work.

How does, then, one sell a Sprint GS3 (SPH-L710) with 3G working on PP, on eBay? There are listings if you will see, with a working 3G. I just made the mistake of buying one with 1X data.

1X just means that you're in an area with no 3G. It doesn't mean that you're getting "1X" data speeds because 1X is what SMS and MMS are transferred over, its not actually a "data" signal
It may be that you just dont live in an area where verizon gives 3G

I'm pretty sure Verizon has 3G here (I live in the city of Chicago, and moving around the city doesb't give me 3G either).
Anyway, I'm pretty sure the guy who did the flashing couldn't get 3G antenna to work with PP, which is what he told me.

This seems to be a recent development for myself, then. There are a few Sprint phones that look to be fully flashable to PP with 3G/MMS working. You may have purchased one that wasn't fully flashed. Making it work would likely require changing more than just the APN. My advice would be to contact a seller on ebay who is offering the service only and see if they can assist.

Why not just flash the radios? Your on xda where everyone flashes about everything. The seller would of flashed them. But not to mention he's legally not allowed to do anything about phones that are flashed to a different network as it became illegal the other day. Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken

No idea how to flash the 3G radio.
As far as the legality is concerned. This phone was unlocked much before any of that, and since now it is not tied to any carrier anymore (and no terms of service), making changes to the firmware should be perfectly legal.

You'll need a donor phone to get 3g. Some might help you here, or go over to the Page Plus forum @ Howardforums and you should find your answers there. You'll need a newer build of QPST and DFS CDMA Tool demo.
