Rooted and CWM my epic 4gt, now how do I flash to straight talk and activate? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

My ep4gt is rooted and CWM, but where do I find the rom for straight talk? I assume I need a rom to make this work on the ST unlimited plan.
Once flashed, how do I activate on ST?
Sorry searched couldn't find this answered.

You can't. Straight Talk uses T-Mobile's network which is GSM/AWS, and requires a sim card. This phone is CDMA only.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App

Straight Talk is CDMA (through Verizon) And no it hasn't been/ cannot be done as far as I know.

ST uses ATT, Verizon, and t mobile afaik.
There are mulitiple services on ebay offering to flash your cdma phone over to ST on the verizon network.

You can update the passwords but if you didnt flash the phone yourself then you need to get it back to whomever did it and they can update it. I actually just took my eg4t and flashed it to straight talk wireless instead. $45 unlimited everything(although they are supposedly cutting people off that use more than 3-5g per month) It runs off Verizons towers so my speeds quadrupled over sprints crappy 3g speeds."

I PM'ed him,no reply yet as to if there is a way to do this without paying to have this done.

Id save over a 100 a month if I could switch my lines to straight talk. Im kind of interested in this also, but its something ill want to do myself and not through ebay.

For Android phones, Straight Talk uses Sprint. They signed a contract back some months ago. They are not ties to a specific provider and will use what makes sense for them, so it could change over time.

Well these phones when flashed use the verizon network. There are lots of youtube videos where they call some number and it tells you the provider.
So i'm seeing that this is a paid for service only (to have phone flashed to ST)

Interesting. 2 people I know with ST, and both phones have SIM cards. Granted, both are clamshells, but good to know.

I bought two ST phones last year, the Samsung qwerty slider, and the one that looks like a blackberry. They were both cdma and ran off the Verizon network. They had bars where my sprint phone did not. I guess different regions use different carriers to piggy back on. There is no T-Mobile coverage in a 10 mile radius where I live.

Here you go:
http://www.fiercewireless.com/story...id-phones-will-use-sprints-network/2011-09-09
I'm sure Straight Talk is willing to use whatever makes the most sense for them so I wouldn't be surprised if they switch stuff around over time.

Maybe this process goes around that? But I have confirmed that these phones do work on the vrz network.

how did you flash yours?

I have my ET4G running on prepaid Platinumtel. You can take any Sprint (Android is easiest) phone and "hack" it to run on any Sprint MNVO network easy (with some diligent research on the web) such as Platinumtel, Virgin etc. I can't say how here, only that it can be done
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk

Do all the Sprint prepaid spinoffs (Boost/Virgin et. al.) offer unlimited data, or is it capped/throttled?
Sent from an Android-powered HP Touchpad.

Update:
You have to start the port process 24 hours before the idiot starts the flash process. It's not really a flash though.
It uses the verizon towers, no question. You can change around your prl's to determine which towers you wish to use.
So far, very happy with this

[Q] One X on Straight. talk

Will the htc one x international. Version. Work. On stright talk
Shouldn't be a problem. If you get an international you can get the appropriate sim card from straight talk and be good to go.
I'm activated on straight talk with no problems. Just be sure to order the ATT compatible microsim. The only hard part is making sure you type in the APN setting correctly.

how fast is the data speed on straight talk
I get between 1mbps and 2mbps depending on where I'm at and what time I run the tests. It's not amazing but it sure is faster than I was getting on Sprint's network. How fast you get is determined mainly by how good AT&T is in the area. Check the coverage on att.com/coverage and check if your area has been updated to '4G'.
I'm not sure if real AT&T subscribers get better speeds or not. The APN that you use isn't one of the '4G' APNs that you'd have provisioned on the account if you signed up with AT&T and got a 4G HSPA+ data package. I need somebody with an iPhone around here to let me grab their SIM so I can run a few tests, as the iPhone data plan provisions both the 4G HSPA+ APN and also the standard APN that feature phones use.
wow! i didn't even think about ST before. i thought there phones were like CDMA phones without a sim. they offer unlimited everything but international for 499/year, which is under 42 per month. that beats Red Pocket's 59.99.
but will i get full ATT 4G/H+ with their sim? it just says mobile web. we don't have LTE, and i don't want it anyway. i only have 2gb to use. i sent ST an e-mail, but i'd rather hear from someone on here actually using it.
EDIT: i guess above is a close enough answer. i just don't want to be staring at loading web pages or buffering Youtube videos.
I just did this. My international OneX will be picked up at Fedex after 2pm today.
I wont get my sim card from straightalk till friday or saturday.
I have been a Tmobile customer for years and did not want to go to AT&T. Nor did I want the One S. I was bummed Tmobile was not getting the One X.
So I chose Straight Talk and will be leaving tmobile.
I will report back once I have everything up and running and let you know how it all works out.
From what I have read in the straight talk forums you should get full speeds. I could be wrong though as I have never used AT&T or Straight Talk so take that with a grain of salt.
Also - I have read you should not Tether your phone or they will cancel your service. Its also advisable to stay around 2GB of data a month. Some people report no problems with more but since I only was using around 1GB a month on Tmobile this will not be an issue for me.
Straight talk does not get full "4G" speeds. It piggybacks on the AT&T network and the towers give priority to AT&T phones. You will get HSPA but not HSPA+

I just activated my one x on straight talk a couple days ago. Using the standard straight talk att.mvno APN, i am getting close to 6000kb down and 1300kb up. Granted, I am in a smaller market(Lexington, KY), but the speeds are absolutely incredible compared to sprint. Even on WiMAX I wasnt getting those speeds.

Also - if you are using speedtest.net app. It somehow can get blocked. Way around this is to delete everything from the proxy line.
Worked like a charm.

i just ordered the $45 unlimited ATT micro sim. they charged some bs additional fees and it went over 60. i hope the months are really 45 each and not with hidden added fees tacked on. if it's not 45, then Red Pocket may actually be better. we'll see. :/
Isn't the microsim $15 and the mandatory one month plan $45?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Yes, that is what I just paid...however, I still don't have service after activating the ATT micro SIM last night on-line. I called StraightTalk this morning and spoke to someone, who transferred me to the "Department that handles ATT Micro Sims for Non Straight Talk Phones" (That's what he said). He was not able to get anything working, gave me a ticket # and said to reboot and try again after another 24 hours?
Does anyone know if the HTC One X Asian Version (SingTel) falls under all the "International" forums?
Also, does the bootloader need to be unlocked for the Straight Talk ATT Sim to work? I didn't need to do anything to my TMO USA SIM, I just cut it and put it in...talk, text and web all work (Edge of course)
Thanks in advance for any input...
Is it 45 per month or more like 50? I hope it works on my 1x. If not I will take my 63.xx to red pocket.
My understanding is that porting a number over can take time, if that's what folks are doing. Even Google Voice warns about a possible 24 hour delay, if I remember correctly. For better info re Straight Talk try Howard Forums.

Thanks for the info...mine is a new number, no porting involved. I will check out the Howard Forums and hope to find some help there. Straight Talk is useless...

Leaving sprint, want to keep my E4GT, what are my options?

Sprint has sent me a termination letter for excessive roaming and cutting me off July 3. This is probably for the best because my new job has 0 sprint coverage (deep inside a building) and i've been roaming on verizon for the last 2 months while at work. Anyway, I do love my epic 4g touch and while there are other phones that are now "superior" I'd prefer to keep it if possible.
So my quesiton is:
What other providers can I use with an E4GT, and how much work does it take to switch? (Flashing, odin, etc). And also, what would I lose in terms of 4g/3g/MMS, etc I'd prefer prepaid services like boost or cricket but of course, I don't know if they have coverage where I work but having all options on the table would be helpful!
Thanks in advance XDA!
I think it can be flashed to metro pcs, boost mobile, and virgin mobile. There's a couple threads around here giving you exact instructions in how to do so so check those out. I believe you'll lose 4g except with metro and everyhing else should be good.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Virgin Mobile is launching their 4G WiMax service at the end of the month. Something to look into.
Page Plus (VZW) is really your only option as the rest of the MVNO's listed here are Sprint. So same/no service.
Best off selling it and getting a new phone honestly.

Ok time to give it to you raw..... (No Homo!) This is what you need to do my friend, go to google type in prepaid services and your zip code. See what pops up for your area then make some phone calls to them and ask them about their service in your area. Secondly you can then go to all of their respective sites and check out the deals. You may find like mentioned that selling the phone and purchasing lets say a T-mobile branded Galaxy 2 and using Simple Mobile may work better for you.
I understand trying to ask your fellow members but honestly what we are going to tell you I am sure you already know. Lastly, check with others in your area and see if one of the other big 3 work extremely well in your area that you desire the coverage and then check out their prepaid services
T-Mobile - Simple
AT&T - H2O
Verizon - Page Plus
Sell your phone for $250 purchase another Galaxy 2 for around $300 or work a trade out with someone.... Time to do some homework my friend... Get close with Google...

Awesome! How hard was it to flash it to straight talk? Any links would be helpful! I've never done a flash to another carrier so i'm not sure how hard it is exactly. So so far to get verizon coverage I can use:
Verizon resellers that work on an epic 4g touch (flashed):
Page Plus
Verizon Prepaid
Straight Talk
Sprint resellers
Boost Mobile
Cricket
US cellular?
MetroPCS
Virgin Mobile
If any of that is wrong let me know.
I flashed mine to Page Plus. Followed this guide, talk text and data work, but I am still working on removing the hidden Sprint APN settings to get MMS working.
It might seem a little intimidating, but it was pretty easy.

If you dont have a donor phone thats ok, but dont expect to get full 3G speeds without it. If you use the vzw password, you get 1x data. At least I am not getting raped on the monthly fee, so I can save up for the S3 and will probably move to straight talk.

question is, if he had to roam at work because Sprint obviously did not have tower close enough, then wouldn't Boost be a waste of time because you can't roam with boost, or virgin mobile for that matter, meaning he would just not have service where he works.

Thanks for that link, its awesome. I will likely go the page plus route though after googling the new phones im on the fence now, lol. The Galaxy note may be coming to t-mo as is the SIII. I don't want to spend $700 on a new phone, but if I can get $275 for my E4GT i'd be willing to pay maybe $500 and just eat the difference. I have until about June 20 to make my decision. At this point it'll either be new phone or page plus / straight talk flashed E4GT. I am pretty sure sprint doesn't set my ESN to bad on my epic just because they are booting me. If they do I'll be pretty irate.
if 4g is available in your area you can purchase a modem for it (clear wire, time Warner, net zero, etc) and use its MAC addy on your et4g as to still have 4g, I'll edit my post when I'm on my laptop to link to the thread with instructions to do that....

Letter of death workaround...
Have the same issue, you may want to try and port to Google Voice, terminate your Sprint account this will automatically happen once a port takes hold of the account number. Let the account terminate; start a new line of service from one of the big three or back to yellow shortly after. If you love the E4GT, go back to yellow the next cycle with a new bis/indiv. account and port your number back. Not happy or locked into the contract just prl flash back to the reason you most likely got terminated and then go over to big red when the SIII is released. Done and done... you'll keep the same phone if on yellow with little loss, and no ETF...
Can you explain what you are saying more for me? im getting kicked off due to a roaming issue on the 18th (tomorrow) and this is my business number so i need to keep it, however the 2nd line is fine on yellow which doesnt make any sence since its a business share plan so they told me that i can keep the 2nd line but will need to go to another carrier with the primary, dont care for limits on data so verizon seems like my only option but are you saying to take the number back to yellow after switching to another? cause they told me i could try after the new carriers 2 year contract but cant gaurentee ,,,but i thinkk that might have been a wink wink in the conversation from the yellow lady. i wouldnt mind switching to ver. prepay with my E4gt just to keep things smooth for now so if anything can you point me to a thread to do this (preferably wo a donor but i do have an old verizon prepay, its the one that flips both regular and landscape style, so would this one work as a donor, it has been activated before tho....thanks

[Q] Anyway to root and rom a Dinc2 to get 3g on Straight Talk?

First off, that noob video was just awesome. Secondly, I am just scared to even post and ask this question as it seems I screwed the pooch in buying this phone to begin with (bought for 160, on a budget, need for new business).
So, all that said, is there any way to root, rom, flash this phone to get 3g on Straight Talk service? I am getting the At & t sim card, and I have At & t 3g in this area. If this is not do-able, anyone recommend a phone that will get 3g on ST and work with gopayment from Intuit?
Now, I am going to go duck behind a large rock in case anyone starts casting stones or rotten tomato's my way....
I'm pretty sure that using it on another service gets your data throttled to oblivion. I know if you use the inc 2 on att u only get edge speeds..same with T-Mobile. It's just really annoying to see a bazillion threads about Sprint this, Verizon that, AT&T OMG, T-Mobile stole my money, I hate Bell, blah blah. Carrier discussion is phone agnostic. There is little that is specifically relevant about the carriers to the S III. Yes, the software differences and radio differences are important, but other than that it's just pointless and adds clutter here.
Man, people are getting their bums hurt when someone talks bad about the Yellow. Yikes.
Well, personally it would be a hard choice. If Sprint tossed unlimited, Verizon could be a choice, but seeing the locked boot loader, etc is worrisome. ATT doesn't have the same coverage. And TMobile... well can be hit or miss.
Imho I wouldn't really care at all since it would also have a benefit - The network load would be relieved and everyone will have faster data.
Sent from my Evo 3D on Sprint's blazing fast 3G network with 4G coverage everywhere
I dropped Sprint to go to T-Mobile when the GS3 dropped a few weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. Every carrier has their weak spots but I feel that T-Mobile offers the best combo of data speed and price.
The one thing keeping me with Sprint was the unlimited data, but T-Mo gives you 5 gigs for 35 bucks w/ free hotspot. Sprint charges 30 bucks + 10 for "premium" data and no hotspot. I think I went over 5 gigs once while on Sprint. Pretty fair trade in my book. If my market was one of the early ones pegged for immediate LTE deployment, I may have stayed though
The things I will miss with Sprint, however, are their customer service and in-store insurance program.
I left for Verizon last week. Couldn't be happier. I had unlimited data with Sprint but only used about 100MB a month because it was pointless to try and use mobile data due to the crappy coverage and low speed in my area. I have 5GB with Verizon and that should be plenty, although this ~25-30mbps LTE is making it really easy for me to use the internet on the go...lol

I just got booted from Sprint in May, thank you 00001.prl. Spint 3G for me was <100Kbps and no Wimax or LTE scheduled for my area.
Currently testing Net10 (Sister to Straight Talk both are Tracfone). So far so Good. I've been buying the refills from CallingMart and with coupon codes it costs $46.50/month, $49 normally at CallingMart and no tax . I chose them over ST because Net10 is supposed to be able to roam and there were no complaints of being booted for excessive data useage. First month I used over 10GB, not threats and no throttling. Been getting 4-8 Mbps, there is no LTE in my area. I normally use 4GB/month but am pushing it to see if they whine.
So far I like the service. I'm starting my second month. Don't be afraid of the prepaid stigma, my phone's banner still says ATT.
I would go back to comcast land line.. lol... Seriously, I need unlimited data, had straight talk for 2weeks and they sent the message of death, had at&t & verizon felt like i was being taken advantage of, my bill was like being compared to paying a brand new Cadillac Escalade car note.. T-Mobile had more dropped calls than the pentagon "did i say that, sorry" all though sprint network crawls it's unlimited & I like that! But to each its own... Here's a better question, if xda shut down what the hell would we all phone geeks, techs, devs, trolls, mods, contributers, flashaholics do?

My family switched to Sprint from AT&T because AT&T's customer service sucked and we wanted the unlimited data (overall our plan is cheaper). I know they can't keep it unlimited forever especially after LTE rolls out in more cities, but hopefully it lasts for at least another year or two. There's no LTE in the cities I live or go to school in yet unfortunately...
I'm getting my first Android phone (Sprint GS3) in about a week when I get home from being abroad and I look forward to playing with it.

[Q] HTC one on Straight talk?

Hi,
Currently I have a droid DNA on Verizon with unlimited data, text and calls. I was grandfathered in. I really want to lower my bill monthly and want a new phone as well. I was thinking of getting either a Verizon Galaxy S4 or HTC One and trying out straight talk for a month. IF all works well, I may port my main number over. Otherwise, I would just keep the One/S4 on Verizon.
Has anyone used the HTC One from Verizon on an MVNO? I hear that all the 4G LTE phones are Unlocked out the box. Just wanted to make sure before I buy.
unless something has changed in the last couple of months you can only use old 3g only verizon devices on straight talk. you cannot use 4g devices. plus you have to pay them something like 50 bucks to unlock it and move it to straight talk, which usually doesn't justify the cost of buying an old VZW 3g phone. maybe, if you have one laying around then you can justify the cost.
straight talk is kind of a pain too, if you miss your payment date by 7 days then they close your account. possibly losing your number. it's not like virgin mobile where you can shut the phone off for 90-120 days before they close the account and you lose your number. not to mention straight talks unlimited data is no where close to unlimited. they will close your account after 1.5gb i believe.
if you have decent sprint service in your area i would suggest looking at virgin mobile or boost. either of those have way better phones than straight talk and you can get 4g with them if available in your area.

The ST website says you can get an AT&T compatible 4GLTE Sim for GSM phones and plug it in, activate, then activate your airtime card. I've seen people do this with the Droid DNA so I was wondering if the One would do this also.
You don't have to pay anyone to unlock anything. All verizon 4GLTE phones are unlocked out the box. The Htc one and s4 have GSM radios in them, which means ATT or Tmobile should pick up.
i don't believe the program for ATT phones on straight talk is the same as verizon phones on straight talk.
from what i understand from researching this a few months ago was that only verizon 3g phones could be ported to ST. if it was a 4g phone then ST would not allow you to use on their network (more likely verizon won't let ST on their 4g network and are just leasing them the less used 3g network). The only way to use a verizon 3g phone was to pay for ST to unlock it.
i highly doubt you can take a 4g verizon phone and use it on ST, if you can't find the information you need on the web then call/email ST and ask them. the few times i had to email them they got back to me within a few hours.

i see you are wanting to use a ST ATT sim in the verizon one, to use on the ST network which would use ATT towers.
i'm not sure if this is possible. i would ask ST and see what they say. it could be that they say NO just because the person you get doesn't understand what you are trying to do. Perhaps the other way would be to simply try it and see what happens... but if you are currently using the phone on Verizon, then this would probably end your contract and unlimited data.
however, i still stand by my conviction that you cannot use verizon 4g devices on ST where ST uses Verizon towers.

Yeah I don't care about ST service where ST is using Verizon towers. I was wondering if the ST ATT Sim that you can buy would work in an HTC One from Verizon. I have the DNA on Verizon now and my One will be arriving soon. I figured I will keep the DNA on Verizon so I don't loose Unlimited Data. But before I blow $51+ tax on a ST Sim card and data plan card, I wanted to know if anyone had it working on their phone?
ATT has good coverage where I live.
Just as an update. The phone works with straight talk just only get edge data and I can't send mms probably because just the data is slow.

I know this is an old post, but can you tell me how you got yours to activate. I have a Droid DNA and it keeps telling me that it is not compatible. I have not switched the SIM cards yet. Will it work once I buy an AT&T SIM Card? I do not know much about how the SIM cards work. Right now the old verizon SIM is still in there and it says the IMEI number is not compatible. Will that change once I switch the SIM cards?
Just pop in the straight talk SIM it will recognize it after you buy a plan and put in the apn settings from their site.
