Power+Vol Down buttons are not working to capture a screenshot. I know it worked sometime last night. Definitely sure I am holding down those buttons. Tried rebooting, powering off and back on and still does not work. Running Logcat as root doesnt show anything happening when holding those buttons down. They work individually (holding power brings up the power menu and holding volume down changes the volume).
EDIT: So I noticed that a bug report was created. Emailed it to myself, and saw this line in the textfile:
WindowManager: Screenshot failure taking screenshot for (1920x1200) to layer 21005
Hey man, might be a hardware issues, was able to take a screenie on mine.

Wifi in sleep mode

should i be receiving notifications like email when my tab is asleep via the magnetic switch on the case? I figure it's either a ROM bug (12/20 build 3) or I don't understand something about sleep mode. If its relevant, I switched back to elementalX v2.3 kernel. I sent myself an email and a few seconds later, my tab chirped, even tho the case was closed w mag lock enabled. What am i missing?

I'm planning on getting this phone, but I'm skeptical about the new lock screen not having an option to quickly set the phone to vibrate. Is the quickest way to do this by unlocking the phone and then holding the volume button down or using a home screen widget?
Not sure if it still works in ICS, BUT if you are on the lockscreen hold the power button down like you are going to turn the phone off. You should get the power down menu.
Then use the volume rocker accordingly to lower/mute the volume of the phone.
Can anyone confirm this still works on ICS?
when a call comes in, press volume Down and it immediately mutes the ringtone but leaves the screen on

when a call comes in, pressing power button mutes the sound AND turns the screen off
That's what the volume bug is for

I wasn't referring to silencing when a call is coming in. I was talking about setting the phone to vibrate so it doesn't ring when going into a quiet area.
The quickest way to do it I find is press power once to turn on the screen (no need to slide unlock) and then hold down power. You'll get three options, the first of which is to put the phone into silent mode.

Something strange happened yesterday. Went to power on my phone so I held the power button. Then I pressed the power button one more time before it booted and next thing u know I'm looking at safemode. Looked just like stock rom except for the words safe mode in the bottom corner. I had no idea we had a safemode lol

I did some searching and found that you can get Android into safe mode by holding the menu button while turning on the phone. Safe mode appears to prevent anything from starting so you can uninstall a bad program.
Warning, it reset my widgets when I turned off the phone and started in normal mode again.

One thing to add, I had to use the menu button on the physical keyboard. I couldn't get the soft button to work. It seems like you have to hold it until the main lock screen shows and you will see safe mode on the bottom left.
So I installed Blazer Rom 4.0 on my wife's phone, however her phone will no longer sleep. If she presses the power button, the screen will shut off then it will come back on about 15 seconds later. Has anyone encountered any similar issues or have a fix?

Its possible its a program that is waking the screen up. Some apps can make the volume rocker turn the screen on. So if you hit both the power button and the volume rocker, it could be turning the screen back on. Otherwise, if you cant narrow down what it is, I would suggest reflashing the rom.
adb logcat
Do it, then paste results here.
opposite thing here
my phone goes black and wont turn back on, it is working but you cannot see the screen

my wifes phone just entered safe mode the other day for no reason. we tried rebooting, pulling the battery, factory reset with no luck. then i rooted it, wiped it and installed a different ROM and it is STILL in safemode. im at a loss, how do i get it out of safe mode?
this was a refurb and im past the warranty so i think i am SOL?

Safe mode is usually entered by one of the volume buttons or touch buttons being held during boot. if you have a case on it, remove it and try again. If this does not work try the volume buttons and see if you feel the slight click when they are pressed. If you don't feel it, you may have a button issue.
To get into safe mode I think you have to push the left capacitive button at a certain time. So make sure nothing is touching that when booting. I've also heard removing the sd card may help, if you have one in that is. If neither of those are the issue try removing the battery for a while, like 20-30 min (push some of the buttons a couple times with it out to make sure no charge is left).
If still nothing it might be hardware.
the volume down button is not working BUT i can feel it click when it is pressed. no case or SD card installed. i have booted it with out the sim card even and still in safe mode. i will take the battery out overnight and see if that helps.

Safe mode can ONLY be entered by this option. When holding the power button and the power menu comes up, you hold down on the power off part on the touch screen for like 5 seconds. It will tell you if you want to enter safe mode. Now, the only way to get out of safe mode, is by rebooting

so then the volume down button should not be causing it to boot into safe mode. so why no matter what, when i turn it on, does it always go into safe mode?

I absolutely love the confidence you show by using all caps on ONLY, so here is a video I just posted to Youtube of the Volume down button forcing safe mode. Try it for your self. http://youtu.be/yQlfbLTERf0. BOTH methods work. OP, you claim that the volume down button does not work? this is likely your culprit.

i was afraid of that. i needed a reason to buy a new tip for my soldering iron. i will get the meter out and see if it is stuck closed even though the button still makes a noticeable click when being pressed.
thanks for the help
EEK. Now that sounds scary. Good luck, hope it works.
Recently the power button on my fire phone has become more and more unresponsive. Right now I can still get it to register, but I have to press it very hard and hold for usually 30 seconds or more before it responds.
I have installed an app for "touch turn off" from the home screen to avoid using the power button, but this can be inconvenient, since I always have to exit whatever app I'm using and go to the homescreen if I want to turn off the screen. I am also concerned since it seems the power button needs to be pressed in order to do specific things like reboot shut down, etc.
has anyone else's power button become unresponsive with time. This is clearly a hardware defect and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for best how to take care of it. would the device need to be sent back to amazon to be fixed? I am overseas right now which makes that more difficult.
appreciate your feedback on how best to fix this.

My power button is working fine, but I've always kept it in a case as there is a noticeable gap between the button and the housing. I would recommend taking a cotton bud and some rubbing alcohol and see if you can clean round the button to ensure you don't have any crud that has built up in the switch over time.
Also, a neat trick in CM is you can double tap on the status bar to turn off the screen. Settings -> Display -> Double tap to sleep. Also there are several apps in the playstore where you can initiate a shutdown/reboot.
I've had this problem in the beginning actually, after the first month of having my phone i had to press really hard to get the power button to register. just like you i started using an app to lock the screen and the home button to turn it on. Strangely enough though the problem eventually rectified itself, this is what I've noticed but i don't know if they will help you.
1) The ROM made a difference, i noticed that the power button gave more trouble on stock than custom roms, i don't know why but you should test and see.
2) depending on the case you are using it can weaken some of the buttons(this happened to my volume and power)
3) Tampering physically with the buttons can restore functionally: using a small item(or you can open the phone) i tapped the underlying triggers and noticed they worked fine and were very responsive. This lead me to believe that the outer button projections were either slightly out of line or degraded in some way, by moving them up a bit i was able to restore function to my volume rockers.
Hope this is of some help
Hello, I was using cm11 and i had my power button unresponsive and even sometimes pressing it would just get my phone to restart. So yesterday when @ggow released his update on cm11. I cleaned install it. I mean i backed up everything and then wiped every partition in twrp except that for ''System Partition'' then i flashed the new rom. Setup my phone and cleared all the pictures and movies. I had same new phone again. No Crashing / Freezing or Unresponsive. #Workslikeacharm!
