Hello!
I want to buy new microSDHC card to my phone and I'm wondering which one is the best.
There are three priorities for me:
- SDHC
- 4GB
- minimum class 6
I found TRANSCEND microSDHC 4GB Class 6 and SILICON POWER 4GB microSDHC CLASS 6. Which one is better? Or maybe you advice something else?

Thanks! I've already studied thread nr 1 and 3 and nothing special there. Number 2 is 16GB and 32GB - I need just 4GB and not for WM but for Linux (ext4 and maybe one fat32 partition on it).
well if it's a pda device then it's interface cant keep up with even the normal card speeds
so high speed cards only really matter when you have it connected to a card reader connected to a computer

So it's better to buy class 4 but 8GB that 4GB class 6?
i have not seen any difference personally between 4 & 6. so go for highest capacity.
i have used quite a few brands and all my cards now are sandisk. None of them have given me a problem.
most important thimg regarding performance is to make sure that its genunine. more than 85% of cards sold these days are duplicate.

I don't know jack about linux or 'rooting' onto an sd card, but if I were going to do it, I would make sure that I got the highest quality card available. I've corrupted my 16 G card too many times (mostly my fault, lol) to trust it for running linux off of it. Get something hardy that won't become corrupted, like if the device freezes and you need to reset it. My guess is that you're better off with a smaller card (like the 4 GB one). I'd stay away from a big one if you don't need it.
Basically, it's a huge PITA when your card becomes hopelessly corrupted and you need to back it up and re-format it. I imagine it's a nightmare when your operating system is running off of said card when it becomes corrupted.

what do you mean? TRANSCEND and SILICON POWER are genuine?
on my purpose,there ARE differences between class 4 and class 6 ,but there are to small differences in speed to pay the double price...I just using class2 Devices (on 3 PDA Phones,2 NDS and an PSP),i never felt there are to slow,yeah on PSP you really fell the difference between an MemoryStick Pro MkII and an Class2 Toshiba MicroSDHC,but for me personally it does not matter -the most of People buy Great Capacity Drives for Media Files right ? ....and Media Files like Movies,Mp3´s etc. running well on Class2 Cards!

a lot of the Sandisk card have Chips from China
(i Don´t know on Class 4 or 6 Cards,but Class2 Card from Sandisk always have Chinese Chips....and there bullsh...)
Japanese Chips (like Cards from Kingston and Toshiba) are a lot better on speed and are a lot more reliable than Chinese Chips
I made my Experiences ,never by SanDisk....
just every Media Market have SanDisk- but that doesn´t mean there are really good..
I have Cards from Siemens,SanDisk,Kingston,Nokia,Toshiba and Motorola (Nokia,Siemens and Motorola are OEM- so i don´t know who produced them)) I have over 20! Cards between 64mb and 16gb---yeah and San Disk are the worst ..dood!
and there IS a Difference between Class4 and 6 Cards,but i think personally there are to less to pay the double Price for it
I have 3 PDA ,2 NDS and an PSP,all of them has Class 2 Cards and i never felt that there are to slow...most of the Devices on the market are to slow to feel the REAL Power of an Class6 Card!
Hi everyone, first post. I am a proud owner of the Archos 43 IT. So, I recently acquired the usb host cable from Deal Extreme.
Now, I only have two usb stick (8, and 16gb) neither of which work. My first intention was to put all of wikipedia on one flash drive (wikipedia is about 14.8 gb) so I could have everything on a portable screen. My second intention was to get an external hard drive (large capacity for movies on the HDTV), but there is a looot of misconception of what kind of drives work (NFTS, USB powered, etc) so I would love someone to spell out two things: What sixteen gigabyte usb drives are confirmed to work, and what sort of hard drive would the community recommend?

Does the drive matter, or is it more the format of the drive? I have a bunch of USB drives that are all formatted either FAT32 or NTFS and they all seem to work.
I have not tried a external hard drive yet...
Well both of mine are fat32. I think its more an issue of powering the drives. From what I understand the Archos doesn't really give all that much juice to what's plugged in the host.

is your cable in working condition? you can try putting an external HDD and power the HDD with an external source to see if it works

Ah, yes it works just fine. I'v been using a USB keyboard with a trackball via the adapter, and I just plugged in my brother's external hard drive with a wall adapter (I don't have an external hd), and it worked great. So its just the flash drives, I just want to know if anyone has a 16gb drive they own that works via usb host.

Holy buckets...had no idea there were so many versions. LOL.
Well, it says its a Data Traveler 2.0 under the hardware IDs. I don't think they even sell this model anymore. I bought it from Microcenter.com at the time.
Have you tried a micro sd card reader dongle with a 16GB micro sd card?
That's the solution I've been using and it has been working fine with my 43

Well according to your signature you have a 101 tablet, which has a full-size USB port that delivers more power to the device and has much wider drive compatibility. The smaller devices (43 and 70) provide less USB power and few devices work with them.
We need to get a list going of confirmed working peripherals with each device...

Everytime I see this I trip over the line that wikipedia is 14.8 gigs. I know this is totally off-topic, but wha!??! ("the compressed file enwiki-20100130-pages-meta-history.xml.bz2 is over 280.3 GB in size (in 7z format is over ~31 GB), and decompresses to several (>5) Terabytes of text.")
My mind, it is boggled.

I just don't understand why anyone in their right mind would want to swap fast internal memory for slow external memory.
External memory will always be slower than internal. I have over 300 apps and half of my internal storage space. As for my 64gb sd card, I have 54 gb used in mp3 The rest is for uploading movies and photos.
No issues with app speeds and video and audio playback.
Well gooberdude, it is possible to get pretty darn quick UHS-I cards now. With a USB 3 port and adapter, mine is darn fast for like $25 off Amazon's gold box. Problem is how fast the actual slot is lol.
In some products it can actually be better to do a swap. On the old Transformer Prime (TF201) and perhaps many Tegra 3 products, the flash chips are so crappy that even a good external card and some duct tape (to keep it in) can be a performance improvement. I've not seen a Samsung device use such crappy storage but then again, I've only used Galaxy S and Galaxy Note, not their budget fair.
In regards to the OP - rooting your tablet and using FolderMount as gooberdude suggested, it is a far less involved procedure. It is best if you just want to move some stuff from internal /storage/emulated/0 (aka /data/media, /sdcard, and /storage/sdcard).
Towards a real swap, it is usually possible by modding your system to think the external is the internal and doing some appropriate partitioning/data magic wand waving. This is an involved enough process vs what the typical PC user understands how to do that I generally DO NOT RECOMMEND unless you are a developer and comfortable building Android from source, hacking the source, and flashing code. In which case, you can also use Google and find out how to do it and how Android handles mounting file systems. Hint: look at Sony and ASUS mods.
Hello. I recently picked up a galaxy tab s 8.4 for cheap (137.00). It's used but in pretty much mint condition. I'm hoping to use the tablet for a laptop replacement for some light duty activities but I need to get past a few hurdles first.
My first problem is that I bought a 128gb PNY High Performance microsd card to use for some of my stuff. The card works fine in multiple devices, including my camera and MacBook pro. However, when I put the card into the tab s things go south. The Tab S sees it just fine, sees that it's 128gb and can read from the card. However, if I try to write to the card using my files or File Commander or some other app the card becomes currupted, gets umounted and is no longer readable by any device. Contents are gone too. My macbook pro will do nothing with it (cant even format it) and the tab s doesnt recognize that theres a card in the slot at all. The only device that will do anything with the card is my camera, which will format the card. Now the card works again in everything except if I write to it in the tab s it corrupts, unmount and no longer recognized again. If I use an old 32gb card I don't have these issues. It works no matter what I do, it's just not enough space.
I've done a bunch of reading and from what I can tell this card should work. However, some reading suggests the tab S doesn't support 128gb while other reading suggests there's a problem in 5.0.2. I don't know if I'm better off ordering a 64gb card or a different 128gb card. What are people using successfully in the tab s 8.4? Any other recommendations? I'd like to stay with 128gb if possible.
My next problem is more of an observation. It seems the battery on this tablet runs out rather quick. I'm lucky to get 4, maybe 5, hours of steady use and then it's dead. Is that typical?

The Tab S1 supports 128gb with no problems i have an 128gb myself make sure to format the microsd in the Tab S, using the setting menu, compatibility with some brand could be a problem, I stick to Samsung or Sandisk , are you certain your microsd is 100% genuine, if you have an notebook and an microsd to sdhc adapter use the software H2TESTW in link below to check it`s genuine and that it is free from errors.
About your battery life, depending on how much you use your Tab S 8.4" 4-5hours seems about right, I have the 10.5" so i am not certain, maybe an 8.4" owner with give more accurate estimation.
One thing to watch out with the 8.4" try not to bend it, as the battery connector can come loose, this is the cause of the majority of battery problems, see if you can get a case that will add some stiffness to reduce the chance of it bending.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the card and it is indeed genuine. It reports correct size and manufacturer and I have copied 128gb worth of video to it to confirm using my macbook. I was already leery of a fake card when I ordered it so that was the first thing I did was to make sure it was authentic.
I have the Samsung book case which is very thin. I'm actually looking to add the Samsung keyboard and use it that way but apparently samsung didn't market the bronze keyboard for the 8.4 in the USA (only the white and black are readily available) so I'll source it from overseas once I know this thing is working soundly.
What format is the card in, ExFAT or FAT32?
I would always stick to decent brands with a card that size, you don't want 120 odd gigs of data going south.
You could try partitioning the card in 2 and see if it gets handled any better.
I don't think the second partition will be seen by the OS but a file manager should be able to access it.
Also I take it you are rooted with write access to the card?
The card is indeed exFat formatted. I hear you on cheap cards and losing data, perhaps I should have just gone for the quality 64gb Samsung Pro just for peace of mind. If this card doesn't work out I'll send it back and get something better.
I'm not rooted, no but i am running 5.0.2 stock. I'm able to write to the cards fine through various apps, including My Files, File Commander, ES File Explorer and a wireless sync app. I have to grant each app access to the card, but after that I can write to it just fine.
I'd send it back and swap it for a Samsung evo card.
I got the Samsung 128GB Evo Plus and it works great, read max=80MBs write max =20MBs according to specs, Warning there are a lot of fake Samsung EVO microsd, but i have yet to see an fake EVO Plus YET!!!

I think you should tread the 5T specs first.
The 5T does not have expandable storage.

Because they want to lost the money from you, just because you buy a memory card, instead of buying a phone with bigger storage from they. Memory card is slower than the phone storage. Just two examples, why they make this decision. The 3rd... the need extra space, for the memory card tray...I know, yes, you say that there is also space on the tray, if you decide to use just one sim... But you need a READER PART TOO... that's extra space... It's better to get a memory card slot for it, but a smaller battery?? I don't think so.

Hey Ben,
This is a little old question but I've just started using the OnePlus 5T a couple of months ago. You can use larger memory sticks and disk drives. But you'll need to convert to FAT32 format first. I just did this with a SanDisk 64gb stick and works great. I think my 128gb 5T is large enough but great to have extra space for movies on flights. If you haven't already sorted this out, I'll be happy to provide you with more information.
its actually because the SD cards memory runs way slower than the phones built in storage memory and would bottleneck your phone. and why on gods green earth would you even need more than 128GB? one solution would be to buy a USB type c memory stick, on that well known auction site they sell at 64gb= £10 or 128gb - £15 as previously mentioned format them to fat32 to make them compatible. most come with type c connector on one end and normal usb the other
