[Q] Problem with charger - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I'm not sure what happen with my oem charger but all of sudden it is taking forever to charge my phone.
It used to be charging my phone in 3 to 4 hours from 0-100% and now it is averaging 10% per hour.
Also when I'm browsing the web lightly with charger plug on my battery is dropping.
I have changed to different rom and factory reset and sort and it is still happening so I'm assuming it is related to charger.
Is there a way to fix this? And if no then would aftermarket charger going to be fine for me to use or do I need to buy oem charger?

Mostly likely the cable has developed a fault. Try another cable and see if it charges faster.

Thanks I will try tonight and see how it goes.

Might be related to a video processing bug. I learned about it in the Cleanrom 4.9 mods released by Sling where it's called the video player sleep fix.

I was on vanilla root box for awhile and got good battery life. I flashed xenonhd to try and was losing 1% a minute. Tried a new kernel and that made it 1% every 10 minutes, so I flashed beanstalk and it was all good until I tried charging it. Took an hour to get 5% battery, unplugged it and plugged it back in, charging is back to normal. I've also read your cable could just be crapping out. Apparently the Samsung cable isn't that good from what I've read on other forums.

CM6 Charging/Battery Issues

A couple of weeks ago I noticed CM6 was taking an unusually long time to charge my battery. Over night charging consisting of 6+ AC charing only yielded 66% charge when the phone itself was in the 40ish% range when I plugged in the night before.
Night after night, nightly after nightly builds the problem persisted. Numerous battery calibrations, to the point I went to Sprint to have my battery replaced. Problem persisted with three different batteries.
At this point I thought my phone was at fault and had it replaced with a new phone. I ran the stock ROM for several days, just to make sure the battery charged correctly and consistently. On the third day, I rooted and tried CM6 once more. No custom kernels, Set CPU or additional software outside the Google Apps. After moderate use, I found myself at 15% at the end of the day.
I proceeded to begin charging my phone around 8pm. 6:00 AM the next morning, I'm ounly at 40%!!!!! WTF!!!!!!! I unplug it, 30 minutes later I'm at work with only 30%. I plug it to my USB port where it remains for three hours and I'm at 80%.
In the evening I plug it to the HTC charger and Have noticed, that without use, the battery drains quicker than the phone could be charged. I've sat and looked at it lose a few percentages while plugged in and not being used.
I is not the charger because I've tried two different ones and I'm unable to reproduce the problem with the Stock ROM.
I'm sadden by the fact that I will have to revert to another ROM or return to stock until these battery issues are sorted. It's a great ROM which I'm sure to return to again.
The Sad One
I have noticed a similar problem but only when charging from a PC usb. It works fine with the wall charger

I read somewhere someone with an issue similar to yours fixed PC USB charging with the latest HTC Sync software. Might want to give it a try. Unfortunate for me, this didn't work :-(

Phone charging really slow??

So my s2 has been charging really slow, like today it took like 5 hours to fully charge, and when connected to charger if I'm using it it wont charge very well, like the battery will stay at lets say 20% when im using it and charging it, it might even go down more. it used to charge pretty well even if I was on it. Cuz this be the charger, or is my battery messed up?? Im using the charger that came with the phone.

Are you charging through a usb port on your computer or ac? If it is with usb port then yes it will charge at a much slower rate. Also if you have a lot of apps running or backround data going it will also cause your charging to slow down some. I would say through usb without any apps open and backround data stopped It would take a few hours to charge say from 20%. Through AC in the same condition probly 1.5 hours. Try to reboot your phone and then plug it in to charge to see if that doesnt speed it up any. If it does then you know you have backround data moving at a fast rate and that would be your reason to slow the charge down.
Yeah I'm charging with the wall charger, not thru usb

thats pretty weird...have you tried using another usb cable?? maybe the cable is faulty?

You could try calibrating the battery, maybe. To do that, turn the phone off. Charge to full (make sure it's full, by taking it off of the charger and putting it back on...the indicator should read 100% almost immediately when reattached to power).
When the battery is full, with the phone still turned off, remove the battery for about 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, reinsert battery and restart phone.
Battery will be calibrated. This may not resolve the problem of a slow charge, but will clear 'battery memory' which may have been preventing it from charging completely (and, I suspect, may have inhibited charging).
Good luck!
I was using an aftermarket wall charger and had similar results. Switched to the USB/AC converter that came with the phone and all was well.

Yes, try Battery Calibration from the market. Only works on rooted devices, and follow instructions.

Actually, one doesn't need an app to calibrate the battery. If you follow the instructions above, the app is unnecessary. And the phone mustn't be rooted
YODA? ^^^^
Hey elflip88, have you found the issue yet?
I have the same problem on my HTC Amaze 4G. It's charging 1% every 3 minutes (adds up to 5 hours)
I'm also using the wall charger...oh damn, I'm starting to think I have a faulty device / battery...
yelp!
For the record Samsung devices are known to be slow at charging so with that considered.... You still shouldn't be at 5 hrs. I would find a battery stats app charge your battery over night and check the chart to see exactly how long it takes to go from 0 - 100. Make sure your batter status is good. Also check the voltage coming into your phone from your charger. There are plenty of battery stat apps in the market that will do this sort of thing. Of course make sure your battery doesn't have water damage of course too lol.

I've had the same problem with mine. But, I can get 1.5 days without charging and moderate usage. Charge it up, drain it, charge it back up then wipe your battery stats in recovery.
This may help if you're using an aftermarket wall charger
If you guys are having issues with slow charging using an aftermarket wall charger, it could be that the phone is charging in a USB state rather than an AC charging state. QuickCharge could alleviate your issues. The cable is inserted between the wall charger and the USB cable that goes to your phone. You can find the product on Amazon. It's the 2nd of 3rd item from the top when you search 'QuickCharge'.
I find that when I fully drain my battery and charge it, it's really slow. Once the phone has enough battery to stay on, I unplugged it and replugged it and it charges normal again.

It's your wifi and your apps using wifi. Turn wifi off while charging. I used to charge 4 hours + on my S2. Reduced to 2 and some change when I turn off wifi.
Also, I struggle to make it through a working day with wifi on. Turn wifi off and I can do 4 days no problem.

I old suggest using a different outlet if you haven't done that yet.

Note 2 Charging Variation

I noticed something really odd with charge times on the couple of roms I've been on since getting this phone.
Starting off, I got the phone and immediately flashed Carbon rom. I've noticed extremely poor charge times. This was using the stock AC adapter and usb cable. Surely it shouldn't take that long to charge. The night I noticed I had charging issues, I went to bed when the phone was @ 60% charge. Woke up 7 hours later, phone was at 80%. Ended up playing some games / using the phone and while plugged in charging, the battery was draining down.
The 2nd night. same thing happened. So I decided to watch the phone charge while doing nothing. It would literally climb 1% after 5-10 minutes at best. So further investigating, I was looking around on xda and there were quite a few threads about people having very slow charge times on the Note 2 and some that can fully charge from 0-100 in ~ 2-3 hours. I ended up installing battery monitoring widgets (Elixir Widgets to show charge mA values and Battery Monitor Pro. So apparently even though it shows my phone is receiving 1600-1800 mA, it still charges extremely slow.
The odd thing was, the rate it was charging off the wall was slower than plugging into my comp to charge (and when plugged into my comp, it showed it intaking 500-900 mA).
Now the really odd thing is, I decided to flash a different rom (LiquidSmooth) because of the annoying mdm_hsic_pm0 wake locks carbon was having. I used the phone to about 80% configuring it and I plugged it into the wall charger. Walked away for 5-10 min, and came back and saw it was at 85%. Before, 5% would have taken me a good 20 minutes of charging. After a while, I looked back at Battery Monitor Pro and according to the history, it charged from 80%-100% within 30 minutes. This charging issue is ridiculous. Fixed by swapping roms. Perhaps there are some coding issues somewhere affecting charge rates.
You should post this on the carbon wall and let them know what version u were using.

I have made a lot of comments in this thread regarding charging time issue. Most of the charging widget apps you find in the Playstore are useless. The only app that correctly display your REAL charging current is here: (look for the op's comments and mine, I have provided a lot analysis for everyone's benefit)

I noticed the same thing when I went from stock to tweaked 1.5
What fixed it for me was moving the charger from a strip directly to a wall plug. Kind of a pain since now I have to charge it in another room.

I had to switch roms to get it to charge normally. Now my phone charges about 1%/min. Before on Carbon, it was charging 1% every 7-10 min. I been using the stock 2A charger adapter + stock cable that came w/ the note 2 in the wall. Can't possibly be adapter issue as rom swap fixed it for me.

I don't have the issue and I use Carbon so it's not the ROM.
I installed the app mentioned in the thread and my charge voltage is normal.
Carbon Nightly | Kroz Hue Theme | Crack Flasher
When plugged in, my Note II will LOSE juice while I use it but will charge normally while the screen is off. This is the case even with the brightness set to auto or even manually set to it's lowest level while using an app with a black theme (like Reddit Is Fun). Checking out the battery usage still says the screen uses the most power. This happened while stock and with the Jedi 12 ROM.

Battery Problem?

One night my phone was dying so plugged the charger up at 1% but even with the charger in it went to 0 then cut off. no "powering down" pop up like normal so i went to bed and let it charge. when i woke the next day after about 8 hours it was on 76%! normally it would have been fully charged. Now its really long to charge. Can someone help and tell me what's going on?

Is there any app loading in the background? Strange though...
what ROM and setups are you using ?? some of the 4.2.2 roms charge really slow and if you are not using the charger that came with the phone than it would take longer
I'm using Cm 10.1 normal settings. I haven't been using the charger that came with the phone ever. It started acting only after it shut off at 0%

its not recommended using other chargers it sounds like you are not getting enough juice from that charger/wire..... but if you are make sure your battery never dies because the more it dies the more strain you are putting on that battery also you will be better off using the usb wire and a computer to charge are you familiar with FAST CHARGE ??? i would suggest getting another charger
Edit: i have a nexus 7 and i had your problem before i have an after market 10 foot usb wire to charge my phone but when you are using it or there is an app that is draining it it will not charge because there is not enough power coming from the wire but if i use my factory charger for the nexus all is good on low battery and it charges so yeah ... just an fyi
also ive noticed that with some kernels that the battery charges faster
but just play around with different roms or just get a new stock charger
If u are using AOCP with stock kernel, idk why but it has ridiculous slow charge. Install a different kernel and you should be fine

[Help Request] Charging issue

I been having troubles charging my S4 and I used the one that comes with the phone when you buy it and it charges completely but now I have a different one that's made by Samsung but my phone wont charge completely. I put it on the charger at 10 am and by the time I go to school its at 60 or 70 percent everyday, even when it's on airplane mode. Is there a way I can fix that? I tried wiping my battery stats and I also got Battery Doctor but that doesn't help either... So can someone help me with this issue?
Additional information:
Running Wicked Rom.
Stock Battery
Not even 2 week old yet.
I haven't dropped it at all.
No water damage at all.
Also charger is a 1.0 amp charger made by Samsung.
I'd consider flashing to stock and starting over, buying another battery, or another charging cable.

I still use the stock charger and cable that came with the phone and my phone charges at approximately 1% per minute (or even a little higher) when it is on the charger. If yours doesn't charge that fast try another cable (borrow one if you have to or go to the T-Mobile store and ask them to use one of their cables to test it for you). Good news is that even if your battery has gone bad you have a phone for which the battery is easily replaceable.

I have figured it out. I uninstalled a few programs that wouldn't let my battery charge completely. I noticed there were three applications running while my phone was on and those thee programs were running all the time without me knowing. So I Delete Battery Doctor, Clean Master, and Wakelock Detractor. After I uninstalled those, my phone was charging a lot fast and when I woke up today, my phone was at 100% and I was happy. I thought I would have to re-flash my rom.
