Hi everyone,
I have just bought a BA (XDA IIs) off eBay (item number 6401231780).
Do you think have made the right choice?
and how do I get the O2 crap off my phone when I get it?
Cheers
Rich
Your choice can be view below..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=120831#120831
seems a good price!!!!! you can use a corporate mode when installing the pda, need to enter a for digit code i have forgotten what it is but can be easily found on this forum. you will however get an o2 start up picture but thats only when you do a reset. i haven't bothered to find out if this can be changed as it doesn't bother me.
thinking about it thats a really good price i hope your not the seller trying to promote yourself.
depends on how much u paid for it, and what condition its in, and if it works. i havent checked the item on ebay cos im on my xda2s now, and dont have time. but if its genuine, then u have made the right choice.
to get the o2stuff off do hard reset and select corporate when prompted. i dont know the code, but if u do a search of these forums u find the code.
and if u are on o2 then doin the corporate thing will still install internet settings.
Hi,
Cheers for all the replies.
The seller has over 1000 positive feedbacks, with only one bad one over 2yrs ago.
It's all genuine (I hope) and am getting it next week.
Thanks for the information on the o2 stuff.
One more question, how easy is the keyboard to type on?
Cheers
Rich
PS - I'm not the seller, lol

If you can't get into corporate mode (I didn't), follow this tip:

Stops the O2 rubbish starting up, and you just get the normal Windows interface...my XDA IIs became MUCH more stable after doing this.
Hiya guys, 1st time poster so please treat me gently!!!
The crux of the matter is my younger sister returned from her holiday in spain to her dad's with a mobile she'd found near his house, a HTC Touch.
The phone itself had no SIM card in when found, and appears to be on the Orange network, with French language.
The phone itself, when you turn on, asks for (I think - its in French!!) a password or pin number. Apart from that its in full working order.
My question is, is there anything I can do with it? I looked on the HTC website and at the online manual. It mentioned "Hard Reset" which I did and assumed would restore the phone to factory default settings (the manual also said all data and passwords would be lost), but still, on reboot there is the prompt for the password. Unfortunately my GCSE french is all i can remember so looking in the French language manual probs isnt a good idea!
I know that IMEI numbers sometimes get blocked etc after loss. But is there a way round this??
I thought I'd defer to you guys superior knowledge as I say. Apologies if any of these questions break forum rules etc, as I said, this is all new to me and im not sure of the legality of using the phone now either, but otherwise its going to waste and never even had a SIM in when found. Is the phone now only worth scrap?? It would seem a massive shame if so.
Thanks for your time, and if you have any advice, id appreciate it lots
Well, I said I was a noob with all this stuff!!! Erm, I managed to hard reset the phone....my French wasnt up to scratch and guess what.......id pressed the wrong button for the master reset
****Very embarrassed smiley!!!!!!!****
anyway, this forum has taught me a few things already, so thanks.
Now, where to get a link for an English Rom to reinstall WM6 in Eng Lang (its still in french!! )
I can't beleive someone took his/hers SIM card out and threw away his/hers Touch. Everyone loves that device!

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree. But it was my little sister who found it near her fathers house in Benidorm, and its in French. I can only assume it was a tourists, however the fact there was no sim in is weird.
But she brought it back to the UK now, and Im just wodering how to get it to work. Seems a great shame, especially when I did a bit research and saw what kind of cool phone it was.
I cant stress enough how much Im being genuine about this too, the phones not stolen etc.....i just dont think there'd be any way to find the owner, if there ever was one!!!
I'd almost bet the phone was stolen in the first place and the theif pulled the sim so that if the phone accidentally got turned on it wouldn't leave a trace on the network and then when things got a little to hot for them to handle they ditched the phone where your sister found it.

You know if I ever lost my Dash or any cell phone that I have I would love for the person that found it to return it to me instead of taking it....people put locks on their device for a reason.....oh well..some people in the world always take things for themselves, that's why people get scammed it seems like all the time.

Umm if you are trying to find out who the person is then why the he!! are you trying to use activesync. You can just unlock the phone without connecting it to a PC or MAC and go to settings--> owner information without needing to connect it via activesync.... Furthermore you wouldn't have anything to gain by connecting it to your PC unless what you want to gain is something you DON'T OWN!!!
Here is the back way to unlocking the phone....
WALK your ass to a T-Mobile store and tell the rep "i found this phone. I would like for you guys to find the owner and return it to him" "here is my info, in case the owner wants to get a hold off me."
Thanks that unlock code works all the time.
naw neva mind ya guys are making it all difficult, I have a friend dat owns a cell shop and can unlock the fones for five buck
lmao ok have your friend unlock you the phone you found.

No,no, guys... you're getting the guy wrong, he just want to get the phone back to its owner...
Oh! Barney is on tv right now... I gotta go!
Yeah! sure...
Besides from his grammar, i would guess he is 12. Who, at 12, has friends that are at least 16 working at T-Mobile? LMFAO

Be prepared to get in trouble if the original owner files a report to police for lost phone. It's better you either try to contact back the owner and return it, or report to nearest police station where you found it. If you want to use it for yourself, there are grey methods available, but it will always be risky if the IMEI of the device is reported to police/network provider. So good luck with it
Wow...

And here you are..... trying to BREAK INTO IT AND ASKING FOR *HELP* here at XDA.
I think.. you should be traced... and turned in to the Authorities..
DO THE RIGHT THING.. MAKE ***EVERY EFFORT*** TO CONTACT THE OWNER AND RETURN THE PHONE.
This Thread Is Just Not Cool Man.
Wow u r asking the community to help you steal someone's phone. The owner can easily track you.Simply return it by contacting the owner or go to a police station and submit the phone over there and if you are going to keep it get ready to get into big trouble
Try calling 911 or 100 and then ask them you found this phone on lying road and tell them to unlock it. Then the phone will be sucessfully unlocked. Please dont switch off that phone else owner will be able to track it if phone is switched off. Good luck

Guys I do want to return it but the problem is sim card is not there and mobile not opening why u guys Makin me thief, I just wanted to get into it so I cud find the contacts of the seller and return it to him....I was in a trip, I was like 500km far from where am I now. If I even return it the local police station I am not sure if they are going to give it back to the real owner. Or might be possible police they sell it back to someone, I don't trust those money seeking policemen... I was asking a solution for it. Dammit my title was I found a phone in the road, not I want to steal someone's phone. Don't judge before knowing anything. If I wanted to scam the phone I cud have come up with another story like I bought a phone from a guy and it's locked but i didn't.
Thanks man

Well I am sorry man if I hurt you but your title was somewhat misleading, it felt more like you found a phone and can't get into it and somehow if you can break in then the thing would be yours to keep. Most of us got the same meaning from your heading. Anyways I am sorry again if I was rude and too quick to judge you.As for the phone it is locked and you can't get into it even if u hard reset the phone miui won't allow you to get in until you sign in with the same mi id.You are not going to go to police station as you are not in the area where you found it and I understand that. Now to me the solutions include using the IMEI no to find the owner.Second if the bootloader is unlocked flash a custom ROM which will allow you to get into the device but will wipe every contact information from phone though you can still access the owner's files which may help you to track him.And thirdly if u fail to do the above two things keep it connected to internet through WiFi or mobile data which may help the owner to track the phone. If u fail in all these I think it is better to give it to a police station as you will be safe in every aspect and you will not get into any potential mess. And if u have made your mind not to contact police then the phone is yours to keep
Try contacting the police as soon as possible cuz if you're found it's not going to be your intentions but the fact you owned the device without taking to the police which will be seen.
Try posting on MIUI forum. Let them know IMEI number, and probably they can let know which user ID/phone number it is tagged to. Once you get the phone number, maybe you can call it up?
You have done a great job so far, keep up the good work
Got an ex review Galaxy fold 4 which had not been wiped before I was given it. I factory resetted it, but it needs the gmail and gmail password from the previous owner... is there any way to byoass this or will it simply be easier to chase up the previous owner?

first who knows how you have got the device? You really new owner or what someone trying to hack into hte device. Kindly reach out the old owner. or do your own research.
Let's be reasonable. Telling us you need the account info from the previous owner is a HUGE red flag. That means is was never factory reset when it was...sold/given/stolen to/by...you. So do understand we are not a community that will assist anyone with a stolen device.
That said, methuselah is correct. You should research the issue instead of asking for help via a vague post. You COULD take it to your carrier's store and have them assist you. Honestly, that's the best route. Take the proof of purchase with you to show it's not stolen.
Good luck.
Of course. That is totally reasonable, For background, I am a reviewer and Samsung's local PR firm forgot to reset the phone before couriering it to me (which is incredibly frustrating). I have reached out to their PR team, but it is taking forever to get this resolved Meanwhile I have a shiny galaxy fold 4 sitting there that is unusable
there are ways but FBI would raid me if I tell u...
nice try tho
I'm sending it back to Samsung to be swapped out for a fresh review sample...

That's FRP (factory reset protection). Background: Let's pretend that your mobile device got stolen. The first thing a thief will do is to reset the phone, because without knowing the correct display pattern the device is pretty useless (and it's very hard to sold in that state ). Since the settings menu is also unreachable with a locked display the thief is forced to reset the phone via recovery mode. This mode must be always accessible by pressing the right key combo in case you are in serious trouble with an unbootable device. Doing it that way, the following setup of the device requires a login to the last active Google account to verify the owner.
This verification step is also required if you do a factory reset in your settings menu. But here the verification is done before you delete everything by entering your display pattern. This will disable FRP for the following reset because you have then verified that this device is yours.
As a reviewer of the phone, you must have contact to a person of Samsung's local PR firm. Talk to her/him and get a new one.
Yes as mentioned above that is exactly what I am doing...
Thanks for the follow up, that all sounds fine. It just helps to give more information.
Yes, if you contacted Sammy and they are replacing it, then you found the best route. Good luck on the review.
Sharing frustration of all ends. Got a refurbished Sammy phone on Amazon, it arrived with someone's pwd on it. I bought it as a backup phone for the office so we discovered it outside the 90 days warranty and could not have sent back. I have the receipt, it is AMAZON selling it, and I have a brick on my desk. Nice, isn't it?
