Be prepared to get in trouble if the original owner files a report to police for lost phone. It's better you either try to contact back the owner and return it, or report to nearest police station where you found it. If you want to use it for yourself, there are grey methods available, but it will always be risky if the IMEI of the device is reported to police/network provider. So good luck with it

Wow...

Wow u r asking the community to help you steal someone's phone. The owner can easily track you.Simply return it by contacting the owner or go to a police station and submit the phone over there and if you are going to keep it get ready to get into big trouble

Try calling 911 or 100 and then ask them you found this phone on lying road and tell them to unlock it. Then the phone will be sucessfully unlocked. Please dont switch off that phone else owner will be able to track it if phone is switched off. Good luck

Return it to the police or directly call the owner, get yourself a probable award or good wishes!!

Wtf
Guys I do want to return it but the problem is sim card is not there and mobile not opening why u guys Makin me thief, I just wanted to get into it so I cud find the contacts of the seller and return it to him....I was in a trip, I was like 500km far from where am I now. If I even return it the local police station I am not sure if they are going to give it back to the real owner. Or might be possible police they sell it back to someone, I don't trust those money seeking policemen... I was asking a solution for it. Dammit my title was I found a phone in the road, not I want to steal someone's phone. Don't judge before knowing anything. If I wanted to scam the phone I cud have come up with another story like I bought a phone from a guy and it's locked but i didn't.

Thanks man

Hey thanks bro for your reply, but I want to return it , I am going to try it, if not worked then I will report it to the police station from where I found it, and will say them of they find the owner of it then they can contact me.. as I am far now I am not able to give it to the police station so it's the best possible way for me.

No sim is there bro

Well I am sorry man if I hurt you but your title was somewhat misleading, it felt more like you found a phone and can't get into it and somehow if you can break in then the thing would be yours to keep. Most of us got the same meaning from your heading. Anyways I am sorry again if I was rude and too quick to judge you.As for the phone it is locked and you can't get into it even if u hard reset the phone miui won't allow you to get in until you sign in with the same mi id.You are not going to go to police station as you are not in the area where you found it and I understand that. Now to me the solutions include using the IMEI no to find the owner.Second if the bootloader is unlocked flash a custom ROM which will allow you to get into the device but will wipe every contact information from phone though you can still access the owner's files which may help you to track him.And thirdly if u fail to do the above two things keep it connected to internet through WiFi or mobile data which may help the owner to track the phone. If u fail in all these I think it is better to give it to a police station as you will be safe in every aspect and you will not get into any potential mess. And if u have made your mind not to contact police then the phone is yours to keep

Try contacting the police as soon as possible cuz if you're found it's not going to be your intentions but the fact you owned the device without taking to the police which will be seen.

Try posting on MIUI forum. Let them know IMEI number, and probably they can let know which user ID/phone number it is tagged to. Once you get the phone number, maybe you can call it up?
You have done a great job so far, keep up the good work

can i lock my Excalibur if its been stolen?

Hi is there a way to lock my phone wirelessly via the imei or something like that?
im soooo pissed.
Unfortunately Not
You'd want to inform your carrier immediately, so that they can disable the associated phone from your account.
But even then, if the phone is not sim locked, then they can simply take out your sim, put theirs in, and begin placing calls using their account however.
Hopefully you don't have anything confidential on your phone. My guess though is that they probably just liked the phone. They'll keep the apps that they think are cool, and remove the ones that they don't like. In other words, they're probably more interested in the hardware, rather than your data.

Maybe call the person who owns the phone. That's why passwords are there.

You know if I ever lost my Dash or any cell phone that I have I would love for the person that found it to return it to me instead of taking it....people put locks on their device for a reason.....oh well..some people in the world always take things for themselves, that's why people get scammed it seems like all the time.

Umm if you are trying to find out who the person is then why the he!! are you trying to use activesync. You can just unlock the phone without connecting it to a PC or MAC and go to settings--> owner information without needing to connect it via activesync.... Furthermore you wouldn't have anything to gain by connecting it to your PC unless what you want to gain is something you DON'T OWN!!!
Here is the back way to unlocking the phone....
WALK your ass to a T-Mobile store and tell the rep "i found this phone. I would like for you guys to find the owner and return it to him" "here is my info, in case the owner wants to get a hold off me."
Thanks that unlock code works all the time.

[Q] My phone got stolen/lost.

Ok first of all i know that there are a lot of similar topics like i am making one right now. I've looked on each and every one of them but i still want to give it a try asking you guys for help. ( you guys may call me stupid after you read it)
So i was waiting for my bus after college, i had my headphones plugged in and phone(GALAXY GRAND DUOS) in my front pocket of my jeans, well the bus was kinda crowded so i hopped in, and i paused the music so i am not distracted at all. Well after i was able to find a place to stand and pushed my hand in my pocket, BAM!!. [/B]PHONE GONE!.. i asked people around to call my number but it was just ringing, I had put it in vibrator mode plus the battery was too low also.. So i got out of bus and tried to call my number borrowing phones from others.. It said its not reachable... AND THE BIGGEST BLUNDER I DID IS THAT I DIDN'T INSTALL ANY TRACKING APP ON MY PHONE..
is there any possible chance to track it via my imei number? I have pushed the app android lost on it but its still not registered, probably because my phone is still switched off or that guy has probably ****ed it up somehow. Or any other reason which you guys might know since u are more knowledgeable about the possibilities.
Please let me know if i can do something, report to the police? uhh.. i am messed up !!

I emailed Amazon today and got an answer

This is what I sent-
Comments:Can you please send bootloader unlock codes to XDA Developers so that support for this phone will continue on an independent basis??
Or send them to me and I will pass them on.
This phone is a great piece of hardware and even though Amazon failed in their launch of this phone, there are others willing to continue to develop it for continued use outside of a locked down Amazon Fire OS that was discontinued.
Thank you for your consideration.
This is what I got back- If any of the developers want to follow this up feel free.

Maybe they will cooperate after all. I don't understand the techy side of things, so I can't respond. If any of you guys would like to, feel free. :fingers-crossed:
Somebody try to call? Who knows english good..

You should call them as they will have access to your support chat session and can't really get out of what they have told you during that session.
You dont need to be technical in anyway to get the bootloader unlocked if it really exists that is.
I bricked another fire phone and returned it to the seller who shipped it back to the Official repair center as they were unable to revive the phone.
After 2 months!! waiting the Repair Center (Amazon) finally sent me a Brand New phone via the seller as they could not revive the phone either.
If they are unable to repair these phone's after simply attempting to unlock the bootloader (Software Brick only no physical damage) then I doubt we stand any chance of doing things on our own.
If they gave the bootloader unlock then they would probably need to supply some PC software too like sony lg samsung etc etc do.
Maybe you're missing a chance to get a new phone maybe a HTC U11 even https://www.wired.com/story/the-first-alexa-phone-gets-amazon-even-closer-to-total-domination/ :fingers-crossed:
Whats the worst that could happen?
I am technically apt, have Amazon Prime and speak good English. However, I am currently in Egypt on vacation ...we sit behind the world's ****tiest DPI firewall that cuts VOIP. I can't make such a call except over GSM or as a receiver on my T-mo line. I have to gauge the level of arguing I'm going to do.

I don't have a problem calling, but I don't have a chat session to refer to. I just sent a simple email. If I don't need to understand the techy side of things, How do I record what they tell me?? Is it just a simple string of numbers?? If they tell me???
Can someone who is tech savvy tell me what to ask for? Or what to tell them I need for the unlock codes for the bootloader? Presently my fire phone is not stock, so I can't give them any stock info.
I have installed the cyanogenMod version 11-10160619-unofficial-kodiak android 4.4.4
Baseband PB_02_06_12
kernel 3.4.0-perf-g280c96c

Removing the Screen swipe lock on a non-rooted, developer mode disabled phone.

I have a phone given to me by my mother's friend who's son died in a drowning accident. She wants to get the images off of his phone (internal memory), but the phone is swipe pass locked, and he never enabled debugger mode, nor rooted it.
Is there a way to remove the screen lock? I do have his email and password, but I don't think that's enough, based on what I've tried.
Thanks

firstly, id like to offer my 100% sincere condolences. I just lost my mom a little over a year and a half ago and one of my favorite aunts just 2 weeks ago. So please believe me when i say im sorry for your loss.
There is a way to do this, but its very much on the outside of what XDA can advise on as it would open pandoras box for thieves.
Your best bet is to call google with the email address and password, inform them of his passing along with showing them where the obit is online and ask for access.
Im not sure what the death clause exactly reads, but you might have to have the executor or executrix of his estate request this. I work in health insurance and we have to abide by HIPAA, but i dont know what crazyness google will make you go thru
good luck man. I had a similar thing trying to get pics off of a mac for a friend who's sister passed away. It was a total b**ch to get done, but i got it done (Linux to the rescue)
