[Q] Dialer app force closing in JB 4.3 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was wondering if anyone can help.
I flashed @fireb33's deodoxed 4.3 stock ROM over my previous TeamEOS JB ROM and now the Dialer App constantly force closes. I can receive calls, and if I attempt to make a call from the Contacts App, it dials out fine. Just that everytime I press the phone handset icon (Dialer), it FC's.
I tried fixing permissions in TWRP with no luck. Wiped cache, delvik cache over and over, rebooted. No fix.

You should have done a full wipe before flashing 4.3.
Only do dirty flashes if you're upgrading the same rom

I have the same problem. I think the problem is in sim data. com.android.phone crashes because it can not handle a string longer than expected. When reading the SIM, it sends more data than expected com.android.phone and hangs. I tried to change the sim by another operator and the error message does not appear.
I hope that helps,

Did you install a different kernel than the one supplied with the 4.3 ROM? I had this issue after flashing 4.3 and a custom kernel. Using stock kernel solved the problem.

hello,
I installed the factory image. The problem goes away by changing the network operator sim. I am from Spain. My network operator is Pepephone. Using a Movistar sim (another operator) and a ONO (another Spanish operator) does not crash.
Thank you,

I've flashed my GNex a million times, should have known to do that....I'll try it and see if it solves the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion but....don't got another SIM with me. Hate to go all the way down to my local T-Mobile, too.

No, I used the stock kernel. But now I'm thinking what if I use a custom kernel maybe it'll go away? I'll let you know.

Thanks, but I don't have another sim card.

Try to delete all configured apn. Then try to power on again. And config manually only your apn. This is a workarround that solved muy problem.

[Solved] Dialer FC's in JB 4.3
Took everyone's advice. Did a fresh install (factory wipe) of stock 4.3 and the dialer force close disappeared.
Thanks, everyone!

Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped

HI,
I'm having this error message on boot and I can't find a solution. Every search I've made for this error comes up empty. The final solution being restore to factory. After doing that and trying to reinstall the rom I get the same error. Phone FC and i don't get time synched from the network anymore.
I'm not using TB. I'm not restoring any data. This is on a fresh clean install of the rom.
Any ideas? I need help!
What did you flash in terms or rom, mods, themes, and how did you flash?

I flashed the new Darkside rom with the TMO base. I'm starting to think that the new base is conflicting with my sim card... I'm not sure what to do about it... I'm with Virgin Mobile in Canada if that makes any difference...
No mods and no themes. Its just on first boot. Any other base seems to work fine. But since the TMO base I get that FC.
Could be a bad download, unlikely but if you haven't tried yet re-download the ROM
I've redownloaded multiple times and checked the md5... so the dl itself is fine... the install is fine... but once it connects to the network com.android.phone force closes... Do you know how to reset the network settings on the sim card itself?

Hi,
My HTC One XL from Rogers is doing this when the address book syncs in the car. I have it de-bloated, rooted, and unlocked boot loader. My problem is that nothing seems to have changed. The phone works (Bluetooth )in the car until the address book is synched (or so it seems), then it cuts out. What to do?
Same problem with my ROM. I am using Reliance GSM in India. I tried with Vodafone & Airtel SIM and the phone works perfectly normal. Tried with my Dad's Reliance GSM and the problem is back. Dunno what the problem is exactly. Other ROMs work perfectly fine with Reliance in my cell. Problem is only with this one ROM. Incase you stumble upon a solution, pl do let me know as well.
My Original ROM with the same error
Hello everyone
My phone is Samsung S3, with original software, it asked me to update the system and i agreed after that i found it add some information such as it;s from United Emirates but i live in kuwait, and now i have the same error only when i try to make international call.
please any help without reset the phone?!!!
On some ROMs, they say it has something to do with the DPI
I've encountered this problem on AOKP 07/09 Milestone 6, and from searching in the forums, all I could gather is that it has something to do with my DPI settings.
On 07/05 it was okay, I just don't get it why flashing to 07/09 made this error appear.
UPDATE Now I discovered that turning the phone into Airplane mode removes this error. But then if you deactivate airplane mode again it comes back.

I would ask in the rom specific thread. You're more likely to get someone with experience with that rom to answer.

He can't post there most likely since he has only 2 posts. I had an issue with Viper like this but thought it was related to Hurricane Sandy....
One morning I grab my phone off the usb (computer) and it says Vodafone instead of VZW on the lock screen. Hmmm. Reboot and nothing changes. Can't send of receive texts or connect to 3g but phone works. I tried pulling battery, sim card....to no avail. As a last resort I wiped data and it has worked since with no issue although that forced me to re-install all my apps.
Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for your suggest. I wiped data and my phone works too. But I wonder what is the root cause of this issue? A problem of custom rom ???

When I have Wifi or Signal/Data issues, I just Odin back to stock and then re-root & flash ROM again. Works every time.

Yes! i think i did a mistake. While i restored to the stock rom, The baseband that i was using it was I747MVLDLK4 and not the STOCK modem. So maybe that is why its not getting connected? am trying to apply the stock modem into the the stock rom, but its giving me Fail error.
am just scratching my head right now to be quite honest and this close to throw my cellphone outside of the balcony.

What type of fail error?
How are you trying to flash it?
i managed to make my modem into the stock version. However am just getting "E" in my data connection. Reminder am still in STOCK ROM and stock modem now. is that a good sign that i slighty getting everything back??
should i just install the CM 10.1 now and see the results or what you guys recommend?
annnnnnnnnd my " E" is gone.. Beautiful
do you guys think it might be a actual physical sim card issue?
UPDATE: i restored my phone into the stock rom by Odin3 and now i just re flashed the Cm 10.1 again. sadly i still have no connection and my income and outcome for calling and texts is also not working.
please help!
Try flashing Task's AOKP and see if you have the same issue. Additionally, try deleting the current APNs (access point names) and manually enter the APN settings for your carrier. Could also just be a faulty SIM card as you mentioned.

The process Com.android.phone has stopped in dialer after unlock

After the sim unlock on the dialer every time I'm trying to call a number I get this error.
This doesn't happen when I call. A contact thru the "call log" so basically I can't call anyone. I can call people only if they call me and are in call log.
Any help?
I've tried:
restarting
Clear cache in phone app
Get a new dialer app.
No use. Any advise?

I believe this is because you need to add a 1 to your numbers before calling. Its random why. Some people have to, others don't. I suspect it's related to carriers. If that is your problem, use this app to add a 1 to all your contacts. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maplekeycompany.apps.numberfixer

Yep thanks. That did the trick.
Also do you happen to know if this rooted phone will lose root or the unlock if I do a factory restore?
Stock Rom. No custom recovery. Did both local and permanent unlock.

try changing the network type to GLOBAL, that worked for me
You need to make changes in the build.prop file. check this thread out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2798566 and make the changes in the build.prop file. had the same problem, got it solved with these changes.
LS980 com.android.phone stop working
Dear all... all the work i have done is quite simple
Step One.
1. Reboot your Android device into Restore mode
2. Wipe cache data
3. Again reboot your Android device into Restore mode
4. restore/factory reset
5. power off phone
6. hard reset phone (volum UP + Power button)
hard reset your phone and enjoy... your OS must work fine now... i have done this with my LS980 sprint set...
reply
I flashed and unlocked my Sprint LG LS980 G2 to permanent GSM. Its working fine but the problem is that it does not see my contacts stored on my sim card and does not keep call logs. Also, any time I end calling or receiving call, it displays "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped." Please help me somebody. God bless you
