Hi everyone,
My micro usb port has physically broken off my ouya and it is now booting to a black screen. I can get the restore screen up by holding sysrq key, alt key and pressing the "i" key. There is an option for factory reset but it doesn't seem to do any thing. What are my recovery options or is it bricked? Could I connect via normal USB anyway?
Thanks,

it has physically broken off of the OUYA? How did that happen? Sounds like you most likely broke the console...not just bricked it.

oh buddy, thats never good. even if you get into recovery, you still need a wired connection to sideload an OTA (which is what you need to do)
it seems that the micro usb port is the only port used for adb. sorry.
and just so i have it straight, the port broke off, THEN it won't boot? if i may ask, wtf did you do to it? were you goofin around and messed up something software? or did the port break, then it just won't boot because of it?
The ouya locked up on me. I was running a terminal emulator on it and it froze completely and had no choice but to reboot. While trying to reconnect to pc via micro usb it kept losing connection and I kept trying different cables and it physically snapped off on me. I can only boot to recovery screen now using usb keyboard.

hmmm...well, recovery mode is good, but you NEED wired adb to sideload. (i know i already said that.)
are you any good with a soldering iron? honestly, that little port is your only way in, so if you can get it back on correctly, that'd be great.
idk if you're into being a criminal, but maybe just go buy one, then switch the boards and return it- say it wasn't what you thought it was going to be.
i'm here for you buddy, but it doesn't look good.

I've thought about soldering but the usb port above it prevents this. However, I'm having some joy holding port in place. It's tricky but PC is picking it up as MTP device so if i get it installed i may be able to hold in place long enough to connect and reflash...

:cyclops: well, there it is! ok, how about this- what if you got a friend to hold it together while you sideloaded? OR! do you have a small clamp or vice or vice-grips? they could help hold it in place while you do stuff. besure to wrap metal tools in tape before you touch them to the metal parts.
this, apparently, is NOT hopeless! worse thing ever would be to transfer stuff and half way through loss connection.
get a dependable friend/quality tools.
hang in there brother. :highfive:
edit:btw- if you haven't already, you should probably take the opportunity to flash CWM. then sideload the OTA. its up to you.

Hi Guys/Gals
ive done a bit of searching and have tried everything i could think of but still no DL mode, and cant mount USB
I started having a problem with my mic ... thought it might be the ROM so i wiped dalvik, problem was still there. Then did a factory reset, problem still there
Thought i would try a different ROM, but when i went to plug my USB in, my PC would promt me with a USB device not recognized window. I tried mounting USB via USB utilities - No Go. Tried with debugging mode off, still no go.
I have reinstalled the USB drivers, still no go.
The phone also turns on when plugged into wall power, or will not stay shut down ... hrmmm
Im curious if the mic and USB issues are related and it is a hardware malfunction.
Any tips, help, or advice would be GREATLY appreciated right about now.
Thanks XDA!
Welp ... got DL mode on my work PC. Will try to get back to factory and see if that resolves the USB and Mic issues.
Pretty weird considering I tried it a few million times.
Scratch that. Got DL mode, once, can no longer. Wtf is going on.
Holding volume+/- and inserting USB cable. Am I doing something wrong? Its sending me straight to CWM recovery everytime.
Tried to do a restore from a point but got an MD5 sum mismatch

so hold the vol up + down then plug phone
Tried everything.
Not a newb when it comes to getting to DL mode if the phone is opperating normally. (obviously if ive come from CM7, and ICS as an original vibrant owner, and was running a rooted SGS2)
Went ahead and ordered a new phone. Am going to spend the couple bucks on the DL mode USB plug, might be able to save something from the old phone.
Im pretty sure something happened to the phone that affected the ports on the USB and MIC at the same time. But we'll see once i try the plug ...

if you have adb set up type in adb reboot download
Hi guys! I'm new to the board. I've done some searching and still haven't been able to resolve my issue so hopefully, with your expertise, I can get this fixed.
Here's the story: I bought a Galaxy Nexus (GSM) second hand from a guy on Craigslist. He showed me the phone, works and looks like new. Yippee!! Well, when I got home I see that there's a lock code on it.. Tried calling the seller a few times and left a VM - now it says the number is disconnected... Emailed, no response. So I looked on here and learned how to get into the Bootloader menu...except when I hit Power and VOL+/-, it just boots straight back into the lock screen..
I've installed the appropriate Samsung drivers on my PC and tried to get it to be recognized that way. However, it seems to be in mass storage mode because when plugged in it just mounts it like a drive. I've tried the "Toolkits" but since my PC isn't seeing the phone properly it never makes a data connection for ADB. So, what're my options? Am I completely SOL?
The phone is beautiful and would love to use it =(
Not sure what exactly you mean by "lock code". But could be a stolen and locked phone.
How does the prompt look like?
You can't get to the bootloader? Really? That's the weirdest thing I've heard actually ...
Are you SURE you pressed both volume up and down then pressed power? Sometimes, you might boot into the ROM first, then press the volume buttons.
Also, I believe that you gotta unlock to install drivers and use ADB commands at first. My phone didn't let me install driver on my computer when it was locked (screen turned off)
If you can't get to the bootloader, you ARE pretty much screwed.. since you can't use fastboot and adb commands either

It's just the standard lock screen. Keypad, Date/Time.
kyokeun1234> Yes, I am certain I'm holding the buttons in - there is a "click" on both VOL+ and VOL- as well as the Power button.
I've tried holding them all in. Holding just the VOL- button (for ODIN) - same result. OS just boots normally and goes back to the keypad requesting the code.

Okay, that looks like the phone just wasn't reset (resetted? Help, please, English isn't my native =D) properly. If you somehow manage to get into the bootloader, no worst case. But how you can do that when the button-combo isn't workling is above my knowlegde. Sorry. :/
There is a "special" micro USB cord called a Jig that can be used to coax the device into download (Odin) mode simply by plugging it into the device.
Hopefully someone will come along and give information as to where you can obtain one.
Once the device is in download mode you should be able to use Odin to return the device to a factory state.
Edit: I read an article that claimed this jig is compatible with the Galaxy Nexus:

I am having multiple issues. The big one is that sometimes when I plug in the phone to my Macbook Pro, it decides to hang the OS. But it's really weird. It's like only the mouse and keyboard hang. Music will keep playing normally, the clock in the menubar runs with no problems, and if I press the power button the "What do you want to do?" window still pops up, I just can't tell it anything. It forces me to hold down the power button for a hard restart. Here's the weird part: I can't narrow it down to what is causing it. I can't tell if it is the phone in Disk Mode or what. And it doesn't always do it. Heck, sometimes the phone won't even act like it's plugged into a computer so it won't even try to connect.
When I first got the phone it didn't do this, but a few weeks after installing DoubleTwist (the only thing I have installed for this phone) it started happening. Uninstalled DoubleTwist and it still does it.
Any help is super appreciated. I searched around and there are similar problems on other phones, but nothing as odd as this.
Thanks!

I have had no other problems with any other devices. And for me, this doesn't go away if I wait for 30 seconds or so. I did find out a few minutes ago that if I unplug my phone, within 30 seconds my mouse begins to work again, but my keyboard still won't work. It seems as though if I press a few keys on my keyboard sometimes the mouse will lock up for another 30 seconds. Only a restart will make it all work normally.
gotcha. well in that case sorry I don't know
Ha it's cool. Hopefully somebody will know though!
have you written to apple to make sure it's ok to plug in an android phone to a mac?
are you on ICS or JB? if it's the later it could be the MTP connection that's been introduced

Hahahahaha, for some reason I don't know if that was ever an issue lol
I'm running 4.0.4 which from what I understand is still ICS. So it's probably good that I haven't attempted to upgrade just yet?
The main reason I even care right now is because I'm trying to jailbreak, but I'm having all sorts of issues. I figured I'd start with this one haha.

I'll look up an SMB reset. Haven't heard of it. Still new to Android lol
However, I googled for a while and even went nuts on here looking for it, no one has this exact issue. The other similar issues only involve programs freezing. For me it seems like my keyboard and mouse freezing, while the computer keeps going. Sometimes I can't even get the two to talk to each other. And when I CAN get my HOX to connect without freezing up the keyboard and mouse, when I run the root through terminal it can't find the phone, in charging mode or in disk mode.

So, did an SMC reset (when I googled SMB reset, SMC came up instead). I thought it worked, but it didn't. My mouse would unfreeze, but my keyboard would still be jacked until I restarted. And if I pressed too many keys on the keyboard the mouse would freeze back up for another 30 seconds. I am too tired to think of what I could do right now haha. Throw suggestions (LOGICAL ONES!) and I'll try it out haha. I just want this dang thing to work so I can root! :silly:
This is clearly a Mac issue. Absolutely nothing to do with the hox whatsoever.
You said that you used to be able to plug the phone in without any issues, and the only reason you want to plug the phone in now is to root it (You said Jailbreak but I presume you meant root).
Why don't you try a factory reset on the HOX and see if it resolves the issue. If it does then you can root your phone and will be installing a new ROM anyway so it won't matter that you've done the factory reset. If it doesn't then it means something has changed on you MAC and I can't help you unless you install Windows
Have you tried another usb charge cable with your phone and macbook it could be the cable is damaged internally causing a short circuit and making the usb devices play up even internal like keyboard/trackpad? Just a guess as Ive experienced a broken cable disabling usb which then works fine after reboot.

factory reset of HOX won't solve an issue with computer. It seems that you USB port is screwing up or is screwed up. See if you can connect another android device the computer and repeat the issue again...if so your USB port is jacked...BTW, u are not using an external keyboard/ mouse, are u?
I'd take the computer back to the service centre and shown them the issue...
me too...seems like MTP is not going well on mac(

^^^^ Now THIS I haven't really thought of! And, actually I think it makes more sense than a software issue. I was having problems sometimes even getting the two to talk to each other unless I moved the cord a bit. I've dropped the phone from my nightstand a few times and it has landed on the cord, so I wouldn't be too surprised if either the cord is messed up or (God forbid) the port inside of the phone is messed up. Sometimes if I had the HOX in disk mode and moved the cord just a bit then it would suddenly eject and often freeze. I have another cable back home, so I'll grab it when I'm there tonight or tomorrow and see if I have the same issue!
So whenever I push the power button on my Nexus 7 the volume goes up instead of the screen turning off. I have never had any issues, until the last two days, with my power button. I have tried two different ROMs with the same result...I suppose that means it is a hardware issue
Anyone else have this problem?

Did you wipe your internal sd card when you installed the different roms? I've had it happen to me where data got corrupted, and installing a different rom produced the same problem. I've never heard of software causing the hardware to confuse the buttons, but if you're able to turn the tab on from power-off, it would indicate that the hardware is functioning properly where no software is running.
Hardware-wise, the only connection point is between the power cable and the connector on the motherboard. You might disconnect, inspect both, and reseat the cable. On the cable, the power and the volume clickers are so far apart, I don't they can be shorted. But just to be thorough, the only part that might split is on the back side of the cable - which means you have to scrape it off the bezel to inspect. And here, you need to be very careful, as you might cut and damage it.

Thanks for the tip, never tried opening my tablet before...
I am able to power on my device, however everytime I do so it boots into Recovery first (which is better than the alternative of not powering on at all)
I am also able to power off the device, however I can only do this through 3rd party reboot apps or by holding the power button down for 10 seconds (it shows the volume panel the whole time I am holding it down)
I am guessing this must be a hardware issue, but I am hesitant to open the tablet up without some very specific instructions. I am a firefighter and I am apt to breaking things

Forget the sledge hammer. You're not on duty with this. Be a kid instead. With a bit more information, I'd say it's software. There's no reason a hardware malfunction would cause the tablet to go to recovery first. Further, if you can shut it down by holding the button for 10 seconds, it's working properly.
I'd suggest you backup all your apps through Titanium Backup, or backup the whole tab to a flash drive (if you're on a custom recovery). Then format your internal SD with TWRP twice (you also have that option with Philz Touch, where it asks you if you intend to install a new rom), and reinstall a rom from scratch. Power it on like that. If it ain't misbehavin', you'll know.
Past it, restore your data, either from TWRP or Titanium. with the latter, restore the apps one by one to check which one was causing the anomaly. It's a pain, I know, but all troubleshooting procedures are. Try it first. That failing, you can think about opening the thing. Actually, it's very easy. I can guide you if need be.
Have you tried using some app to change the purpose of hardware buttons?

Any fix?
Did anyone manage to fix this issue? I'm facing this exact problem with my nexus 7now. Power button changes volume up.
I have a TV box whit Intel atom z3735f quad-core, 2GB di RAM and 32GB of memory, HDMI, two USB, battery internal, bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi dualband(2.4 and 5ghz), preinstalled windows 8.1(i think 'RT') whit Bing, charge whit another micro-usb port!! Model name: Wintel Mini iPC002 (Vensmile W10) Producer: Vissontech [search it for other features] it's a good product for good price!!
Initially i have a problem whit the two USB and i think that it was disable on the bios setup. I procure an otg cable and connect the keyboard in a micro-usb port to finish a pre-configuration of Windows. Then i reboot and enter in the bios setup. Whit my big surprise, everithing is enable!..then reboot and try the two USB, but nothing: don't work!
At last, i re-enter in the bios setup and i can't select or change nothing!..I repeat the operation but i can't change nothing in the bios setup and the two USB don't work!!
Do you say me one way to reset the bios?..or one solution for the problem that i described in this post?
Exist a tool to flash a bios in WinOS for this product whit Intel processor?
Thank you for your time!

Same problem
Hello novellus2014, i have exactly the same problem : the 2 USB ports doesn't work.
I have test 2 mouses and 2 keyboard. The led on the mouse don't light. Same for the led on the keyboard (caps lock...).
So perhaps there is a problem with the power on the USB ports ?
I can't finish Windows 8.1 install, i am blocked on the language selection of Windows 8.1.
To finish the install you have use an OTG USB cable on the mini USB power port ??
Thanks to send me a message if you found a solution for the USB ports. I'll do the same for you if i found a solution...

hi mediapole, luckily or unfortunately, we have a same problem!!
the answer at your question is: YES!!
i use an OTG cable for finish an initial install.
but or use it or charge the mini pc..a bad solution for use this product
also in my opinion the problem is the power of USB ports!!
also the led of my pen drive is off when it is attached!!
i have send a mail at vissontech and wait for response.
Soon
Same here
Just received my unit and have the same issues and the same oppinion. I think it is about not having power on those two USB ports, maybe a hw problem? I hope not.
I guess I will try to power the unit through the micro usb port, and I will use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and a big SD for storage

Thank you very much. In fact it seems to be an older BIOS (Vx5_bios_20141231_2117_logo.bin) than the one the seller sent to me (Vx5_bios_201501271131_intel.bin), but still I have given it a try.
Still the same, well now I have lost the conection with bluetooth mouse and keyboard, but I guess I could pair them again if needed.

Thats bad... I think its because we tried to downgrade the BIOS from higher version. If you reflash the new one it should restore the bluetooth functionality. If possible could you please send (email) me the BIOS you have?[Vx5_bios_201501271131_intel.bin]

I agree that upgrading it again bluetooth should come back, I need to find the uUSB to USB cable again to do it.
I will also check the link you sent, but don't you think that after reflashing the BIOS, USB ports should get enabled if they weren't?

If its a hardware issue then whatever we do it will not get enabled. What i do is i use RDP to this MiniPC if I want to change the settings. That way i dont have to physically connect keyb and mouse to it. I have installed Plex server on this minipc.

Similar to what I planned at the begining with bluetooth mouse and keyboard. But I'd like to plug my 3Tb disk to it and still keep powered. I have also done some tests with usb hubs, but again no way.
I have tried few things on my mini pc
1) Disabled USB Legacy mode in the BIOS and restarted. flashed the Guleek BIOS BIN file, it flashed successfully and restored BIOS defaults.
2) I have again Disabled USB Legacy mode in the BIOS and restarted. flashed the Vensmile BIOS BIN file, now i cant go to BIOS anymore, it seems it doesn't restore the defaults. I then re-flashed the Guleek BIOS and it started again.
Hi!
i bought 2 days ago a vensmile ipc002.
Im trying to boot with linux usb key, but i have big problems in disabling secure boot...r u able to do it? can you help me?
Everytime it boots windows, even if i made my usb key with rufus, gpt partition, fat32 and every thing i read on the web.
The only way i won is to press restart+shift, then boot/rescue from there by uefi usb....in that way, my pc boot with linux (mate in this case, 64bit version).
Please help me to understand something in bios setup...it seems all disabled, but it everytimes boot windows instead of uefi usb key!!
i tried every solution without success.
I can boot anything ... only win8.1 .
I need to boot linux....is it possible?
Is it possible to flash a different bios without secure boot locked (i disabled from uefi setup but without success...)
Thanks a lot
I have also tried booting with other OS but didn't worked. I will need to investigate more, i will do it this weekend and let you know.

Working Solution for the USB Ports!!!
Hello,
i bought this device last week. and the USB Ports was not working.
so i searched through the Forums, but no solution.
the Solution i found out is, that you have to remove the black Stickers on the front and on the back.
under the Stickers there are 3 Screws on each side. on the front is the WLAN Antenna!
just remove the front plate... pay Attention of the Cable from the WLAN!
then press the electric out to the back side!... disconnect the WLAN Antenna from the Mainboard.
i removed the 2 screws from the USB Port and ... the cable was not connected to this circuit board!!
i removed the Battery (the cable is sticked to the battery) ... pulled the cable to the direction of the USB Ports. and connected it to the circuit board...
then the USB Ports are working!!
just Reassembly the Device after this procedure and all is working

USB Problem and Solution for the Vensmile. If you are like me you plugged in your Vensmile and were unable to do anything with the plugged in usb keyboard and mouse. There was no power on mine, I checked with a voltmeter and it was dead. I knew it was powered up since it was coming up with the install for win 8. If you are having the same issue as me you will not have a light between the two usb ports in the back. I carefully peeled the plastic protector off slowly (black side with all the ports). This is a piece of plastic held on with sticky tape. This will expose the three screws. Remove the three screws and the main board will slide out. Mine required a tap on each side to start sliding out. You can see the usb board now and just flip the right battery back off the board. I have attached a pic. You can see it either fell out during transmit or was never attached in the first place. Pull up on the black ribbon connection, slide in the ribbon cable and lock the black ribbon connection back down. You will see the usb come back on right away. Slide it back in the case, attach the three screws and put the plastic stick on cover back on.
(I have image of the insides, but the forum don't let me post it)
Edit:
I did it! OMG I did it! It works again! Thomas_Eder and Brittany Thomason thank you so much guys! You are awesome!
1. Use knife to take out the back black bezel. I started from the side and pulled with fingers. Its tough dont worry. It got no scratches.
2. Remove the 3 screws.
3. Tap Tap Tap and the motherboard slide out.
4. On the bottom where the battery is you will have to detatch 2 screws to remove the usb board.
5. See the white ribbon next to battery. Thats it.
6. There is a small cap on the ribbon connector, be careful, open it with nail from the back of his entry.
7. Push the ribbon and close that little lid to hold it in place.
(The usb board will start blink)
8. Dont forget the 2 little screws.
9. Put all inside (watch out for the antenna and ribbon cables).
10. Test. Close. Enjoy.
I made some pics but cannot post them.
Edit 2:
I made video with the pictures on youtube - watch?v=OI55cAELoSo
