Some say dish or Sprint might try to take over tmobile - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

http://www.tmonews.com/2013/07/investor-sees-t-mobile-as-takeover-target-for-dish-network-sprint/
I honestly don't want either to take over. But if I had to choose, I'd choose dish.
With me just coming from Sprint I have this to say
You would have to shoot me in the face to get me to ever give another penny to Sprint. Their 3g data speeds are horrific in most places (even in places that have network vision dine, it's just "meh" speed, still sub par) I could never get above a 20 kb/s download rate. Not to mention how much more expensive they are with their plans (when I was with then, I had the cheapest available, 450 min and unlimited everything else for 69.99 a month.) Back in the day, Sprint could compete, but they let their towers become dated and do to little to late when they finally do decide to do something about it. Not to mention hour they boned their wimax phone buyers.

Rather it be Dish than Sprint. Had a 4g phone since wimax came out... then LTE.... Still no 4g in Savannah. I said goodbye to them when the S4 came out and switched to tmo. Got them to cancel the early termination fee because of the past few years of bad service in the entire Southeast area of GA and SC. Took a week of convincing.
Then Tmo: It was instant "oh this is what 4g is like!" Roommate is still getting 10-100 KILObytes on Sprint, while I'm getting 15-26mb on Tmo. Suck it Sprint.

And with what money is Sprint buying anyone, TMo isn't exactly Virgin Mobile.

Lol yes. Very well aware. Different tech. It's just the thought of being a customer of a Sprint owned anything. Seeing them fail so much.

Thats hillarious. Sprint DOES NOT have the money to take over a network that is triple in size to the one they already have. I also don't see how a tv company wants a cell phone network. I think its a load of garbage. Yes i read the link in the OP. T-Mobile is doing better than a lot of its competition, i seriously don't see Sprint "taking them over". Thats a laughing joke lol. Sprint sucks beyond sucking xD

yes but if sprint takes over, they will probably let the towers become dated like they did their own and we wont see these speeds for long

Seems to me that AT&T tried this not too long ago. The result? Fed Govt said "Nope, not going to happen" AT&T got pissy and walked away.. but not before paying T-Mo a pretty sizeable chunk of cash because the merger didn't go through.
Don't see anyone picking up T-Mo in the near future.

I think this has been rumored for a while and I don't think it will ever happen. T-mobile's patent company, Deutsche Telekom, is a massive company and I don't think they would let tmo go.

>O/C GalaxyGS4<

yeah as it was said AT&T tried to buy them out and the US government put a big red flag in that. people (such as myself) are leaving sprint to go with tmo because of the better service and price. plus, not sure if youve seen/heard the commercials but AT&T are trying to stay afloat by copying tmo's not contract deals... oh and to the guy who said something about a tv company buying a cell company.... even though verizon started as a phone company im fairly certain that their tv/internet service is pretty amazing.

On the other hand Tmo can take over Sprint and put that company out of business once and for all and put their customers out of their misery.

Sprint will be a lot better in a year. They have cash now because of Softbank. I was surprised they came out with the plans they did just recently but hopefully they lower them so that should help all of us.

Sprint will never have good towers. They are trash. They've had two years to improve since I've left them. My cousin still has them. They suck. They aren't going anywhere.

I'd have little problem with Dish, it could end up benefiting both sides. Still, T-Mobile stands to benefit less from a takeover now than they would have in the past. On the upswing as a carrier, or so it seems.

US wants 4 "major" carriers so unlikely tmo and sprint would merge anymore than tmo and at&t merger was approved by feds.
As for Dish (puke) they can't hardly run tv without being aluminum siding/used car salesmen. They'd be worse than the old nextel (which is where sprint got 95% of their terrible rape, pillage and burn customer service habits).
Full disclosure: was sprint customer almost 10 years (yes im a suicidal masochist lol) before givi g up in disgust & going to att for 3 and now on tmo.
TBH, only went with tmo because of pretty seamless wifi calling (no carrier signal works worth a dam at my house)

[Q] Cancel sprint contact with no etf?

Im tired of sprint, ive been screwed out of an upgrade and there was countless times fraud occured while on my parents family plan through assurion but thats besides the point. im on my own plan now and the unlimited speeds are painfully slow not to mention the 4g i pay for thats not in available in my area.my question is this, if i roam over 300 megs of data a month i understand that sprint will cancel me and that is what i want but will there be an ETF? if anyone knows or has had experience with this please let me know. i apologize for posting this, i know its been discussed before but from what i read i was only seeing people who were upset about being canceled but im wanting to use this to get canceled but i was unable to determine if there will be an ETF, thanks for your help.
A) how were you screwed out of an upgrade? If there has been a legitimate error it can be corrected. For example if you returned a product but your contract didn't get reset.
B) what 4G are you paying for? Sprint doesn't charge extra for 4g,only for smartphone access.
C) using too much roaming data is technically grounds for charges by the mb, plus termination with etf still being charged. In practice, it is usually just a friendly parting of ways.
If you were unhappy with the speeds you shouldn't have signed a contract, or returned the device during the return policy. The speeds are not appreciably different now vs 8 months ago. In my area they have improved noticeably.

i think i may attempt this with you. using my basic logic im thinking if they "boot you" then you wouldn't have to pay etf cause u didn't et. but as we all know basic logic was thrown out the window by cellular companies so i could be wrong. I'm just thinking that's why people go to the measures they do, to get canceled by sprint thus avoiding the etf. actually i just made up my mind, i will join you on this journey. new orleans and surrounding areas has been **** since b4 katrina. seems veriz and tmob are the only ones with good/great service around here.

i apologize that was a bit of a rant i should also mention i work in a different location and the speeds there are terrible but but i was refferering to the premium data charge "4g" of which is not available in my area and will not be since sprint is abondaning development for their wimax. and as far as the upgrade my last upgrade with sprint was somewhere around 2008 id say i still should have had my upgrade available due to one of my parents letting me use their upgrade to get a new device but somehow or another both my upgrade and parents upgrades were used and as far as signing a contract i didnt i perfromed a latteral transfer which allows me to pay for my own bill with out having to buy out of my parents contract although i checked yesterday and i believe it extended two years while my next upgrade isnt available for another 363 days but you do think they will charge the etf?

I get 1.1mb Down and 670kb up on 3G and 16.7mb Down and 1.51 mb up on 4G. I think once I managed to pull 24mb down on 4G. All other carriers throttle you after 2gb of data use. Sprint wont. Thats just my two cents.

megs of roaming won't ever get you kicked off. Yes, they can charge you overages AND an etf if they wish, and they have on occasion. Most the time they don't though.

I just ran a speedtest for me in KC, not far from Sprint Headquarters and 213kbps down and 98kbps up, and that's good for me. I'm almost exclusively am on wireless just so I can actually browse or get on the internet. That's not the reason I pay for my cellphone. Just returned my evo with hopes of getting my preorder gs3

Returned evo lte due to data dropouts and crap reception for the photon with hopes of getting the gs3. Will the gs3 have similar data issues due to the new 4g radios in these new sprint phones? So far the photon reception is insane.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
I think most people would agree that the Photon is well known among Sprint phones to be the champion when it comes to reception. If you're hoping for reception like it had in the GS3, I wouldn't hold your breath. I had the EVO LTE before the GS3 & the reception was about the same between the two. Samsung did do us a service in improving the radio slightly in the GS3 over the GS2 though. I get approximately 2-3 dBm better reception with my GS3 over my GS2 in the same spots. YMMV.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
As far as cdma Motorola has a patent that allows them superior radio quality. Does anyone know one that patent will expire? Lol
Should I stick it out with the photon and skip on the gs3?
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
Dude, the SGS3 is the pinnacle of smartphone hardware you can own in the WORLD, regardless of network, right now. It is an amazing piece of technology. Like I said, if you expect to see reception like you do with the Photon, that's probably going to be a pipe dream. But I think you'd be crazy not to at least try it out. Am I biased? Yeah, mostly!
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using XDA
Great time for a return. Verizon SGSIII should be out shortly, return that Photon, pick up that SGSIII should receive equal to +/- reception and you'll be in excellent condition. I couldn't do the EVO LTE, looking forward to Verizon, again :good:.

Just got off the phone with best buy and according to them, I should get the gs3 right away since I preordered which should be in my 30 day return policy with best buy. Ill give it a shot and if I see the same poor reception as the evo lte, Ill go back to the photon. As far as going back to verizon, not happening, I just did an assumption of liability with some one on xda an gave up my unlimited. Couldn't justify spending 150 a month for three lines with only one smartphone, 700 minutes, and only 200 text per line. Now I'm spending about 165 for all three lines two of which are iphones for my wife an mother in law. On the 1500 data unlimited. Sprint in my area is fine for service and will only improve as they make network upgrades plus I should be grandfathered in my current plan if they ever decide to change policy. Again this is all speculation, not fact. Here's to hoping the gs3 doesn't drop data the way the beautifully designed evo lte did.

I agree, Sprint ftw! Also, the EVO LTE is beautiful, but once you have the GS3 in hand I doubt you'll be disappointed from a design perspective. It's gorgeous & also more comfortable to hold IMHO. Hopefully the signal strength will be better for you, too! Good luck in your endeavor.

I think both phones are excellent phones and the which one is better, is a silly argument. Ultimately both phones will tackle just about any task you throw at it and any performance differences will be minimal.

Dav, you get what you pay for... I'm with Sprint and I put a pre-orders for 2 S3 with Verizon. I cant even load Google maps while on the train here in LI NY. IMO after Sprint went with the iPhone my speed went from awesome to pure garbage, yes, you get unlimited but what good does it make if you can't even stream a song without skip.
If you want to check how Sprint is doing where you live try check here network.sprint.com

Anything above $150 is pushing it with theses greedy cell companies. Att wanted $200 for something similar to sprint and verizon is about $190. This has some potentials.
2/3 owning state in Sprint would give control to them.
It would give Sprint a pretty healthy infusion of cash.
It gives Softbank access to more spectrum.
It gives Softbank the roaming agreements in the USA that it wanted.
It gives Softbank access to more phone systems they may want and possibly in reverse to Sprint.
It'll drive Sprint's stock price up. Short term anyway.
It has the potential to make Softbank/Sprint and everything else they own one of the largest global cell providers.
More than likely Sprint will continue to be treated independently in the USA under the guiding hand of them. Until they figure out what they want, I suspect pricing, unl data, etc won't change for awhile. After 2 years, anyone's guess tho.
Makes me sad because the possibility of Google buying Sprint goes down further

TMo and Sprint are definitely seeing gains from Verizon's apathy toward its customers. This Network Vision could really change the game.
We may see a lot of new devices come out too
i knew my "$10 premium data fee" on 4 lines was being used for something!!! it darn sure hasn't been used for getting me "premium data" since I started paying it over 2 1/2 yrs ago!!
"By raising some new equity directly, Sprint would be able to shore up its balance sheet and potentially fund other deals such as a buyout of Clearwire in which it already holds roughly 48 percent."

Give it up already. Same post in a few different threads now? C'mon man.
We get it...you hate Sprint and everything about them. Obviously that statement pertains to the cash they'd receive in selling a majority stake in their company.
I wouldn't fathom some of that money we've all been paying has gone towards the biggest network upgrade any cell provider has ever gone through...upgrading every single of their 30,000+ towers? No, it couldn't be something like that.

It is no longer a premium data fee and they are still the cheapest national provider. Yeah their speeds are sub par but as long as it stays unlimited i dont care and im very happy.

i swear i saw like 3 diff versions of this rumor today , i heard full buyout the 2/3rds buyout and i also heard a 11% stake in sprint. now which one is it -_-
im all for a 11% stake cuz that would give them the funds to speed up 4g rollouts just no raised prices please...

Data speed definitely the nexus's fault (CDMA)

I just wanted to let you guys know, or data speed problems we have with our nexus CDMA is definitely our phones fault not sprint. I just upgraded to a optimus g and I'm getting 1 to 2 down while my nexus is getting 200 to 400k in the same spot off the same tower

this.
I'm convinced that Samsung and CDMA don't get along at all, whether it's Sprint or Verizon.
EDIT: oh and Sprint still sucks.
I'm getting much better LTE from Motorola hardware around here. It's a shame, I like just about everything else about this phone.

I agree Sprint sucks if you aren't in a decent coverage area, then again that does go for all service providers.
I'm content with my data speeds on Sprint: 15.77Mbps down, 7.91Mbps up.
Mm you guys drive me mad with your LTE im so jealous

Sprint has many problems beyond just their data rates. They're hemmhoraging customers for many reasons. In any case, where I live (Phoenix area) all other carriers and even several MVNO's offer 4g and have done so for several years now. We're the 6th largest city in the US. Even AT&T provides better service than Sprint.

They're currently offering gimmick enticements to get poeple to join, but hopefully nobody falls for this scam of a company. They rob you blind with their contracts that have "rate creep", constant billing errors in their favor that you have to call to correct every month (and calling involves CSR roulette and re-explaining your situation about 3-5 times to different people,) and then provide horrible service.
They used to be the "value" provider (cheap rates, but you get what you pay for) which I was fine with. However over time I was paying more than verizon customers pay while still retaining the inferior service.

Definitely agree with you there, I used to manage a radio shack which was a 3rd party authorized sprint, verizon, and at the time cingular -> att dealer. Every customer looking for the best "value", or those with low incomes/bad credit...sprint was the go to solution. At the time, they were the only carrier offering somewhat cheap down payments for bad credit. My sprint rep even said once at the bar after a long day of inventory, that they count on the fact that a good percentage of their customers aren't english speaking, don't really read the bills, and therefore do not call to complain. Then to top it off over the last few years they've just wasted money picking up IDEN networks from ww2, attempting to merge, realizing its not effective, "rolling" out wimax that never made it to most areas of NY....and now the LTE being nonexistent, without my AirRave, i never go above 50-75 kb/s downloads on 3g...how can you even call that 3g? lol...;\
Regretting i never kept my employee plans, even if no longer working for the company could have kept $10/month no contract unlimited corporate everything.
Don't have pictures but when I drive up to Indianapolis I can get 1 down, sprint gnex.
I have never had billing issues with sprint? I just pay every month and they leave me alone

Sprint's getting more money to buy the greatest

So they spend $50 billion to buy T-Mobile, then what money are they gonna have to do anything after that? Capitalism at its finest
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
Softbank has DEEP pockets. They're just using the AMERICAN name of Sprint for the transaction. Softbank wants them to expand their US market and become the #2 carrier in the WORLD.
I hope this doesn't happen. T Mobile could lose some of its cool services, should the new company decide to phase them out.

An article I read not too long ago says the talks are only for buying baseband frequencies off of t-mobile. Basically, I think sprint thinks it will be cheaper to buy already implemented 4g instead of doing it themselves. That is one of the reasons I left sprint. Promised me 4g 3 years ago, and still nothing around here.

50 billion is a whole lot of money!!!

Good Point here from the article -- Even if it were to secure the huge funding to buy T-Mobile, we have to think such consolidation in the wireless industry would be viewed as detrimental to consumer choice by the FCC and SEC alike. --
Hopefully if it happens they offer some incentives to keep current customers who originally left from Sprint to go to Tmobile in the first place, like myself. If not, its just going to be the same thing as has been going on for years, lots of people havent been to happy with Sprint for awhile now, i mean they arent horrible but TMOBILE for me has been 10x better and ive still got a year left on my contract, so idk. Thanks for the update OP
I used to be with Tmobile years ago before I switched to Sprint. It was one of the worst decisions I have ever made. I live in Orlando Florida and their 3G network here is absolutey horrible. Some places it works fine, others it takes 10 minutes to load a simple text only news article. The 4GLTE network is growing but it's spotty and definitely does not penetrate buildings well at all. I've had so many calls with their tech support and have heard countless lies and excuses. I pretty much have just been giving Sprint free money for the past couple years. They don't care. So I took advantage of the ETF program Tmobile has and went back. Now my phone actually works!! I have even convinced 6 other people to do the same and they are all happy with the savings and improved network. It seems that Sprint knows it may be passed up my Tmobile soon and instead of improving their service, they will just buy up their competition. I'm pretty sure it won't go through, at least I pray it won't.

Sprint can "secure" all the funding in the world, but there's almost no chance in hell this anti-competitive merger will be allowed to happen.
I hope this does not happen. In Florida..Sprint ....well....sucks!
And look what happened to Nextel when Sprint bought them.....

That's what folks said about the American<>US Airways merger. There are now three network airlines in the U.S. Three wireless providers (VZW, AT&T, T-Mobile<>Sprint) of similar scale will do more for competition in the long run than two massive carriers and two without the resources to continue to invest to remain competitive. Capital investment is a percentage of GOP and neither Sprint or T-Mobile is generating enough profit because of their scale to every compete over the long haul with VZW and AT&T.
As much as I despise Sprint, this makes more sense than the possibly ATT monopoly that could have happened.

I live Orlando to and you're absolutely right Sprint service suck. I took the Tmobile offer and jumped and I was completely surprised with the speed I was getting and how far behind Sprint really is.

T-Mobile really can't catch a break can they? They are finally doing well and Sprint is so threatened. I just don't understand why the weaker struggling carrier is wanting to buy T-Mobile. If any of the T-Mobile executives support this or go through with this, I wish T-Mobile to go under. If T-Mobile stays far away from Sprint, then they will continue to be successful.
If a deal does go through, we can only hope its fails so T-Mobile again gets a nice break up fee.
If it happens it happens. We can only hope they take the good things from each company and mesh them into one.
I do find it odd however that sprint has announced wifi calling as of late. I also left sprint for t mobile. I am impressed big time in the difference, and absolutely love the Wi-Fi calling feature.
However, if the 2 merge, you need to remember that frequencies will be doubled in coverage, not cut back.
Positives and negatives, but myself, I am just hoping T-Mobile gets the bands they want from Verizon, and get bigger and better.
