Note 2 Charge problems - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

So im very new to XDA and just signed up a couple days ago. I have been searching for a answer to my problem and have found very similar topics but none as exact as mine. I apologize if this is not in the right thread or if it has already been answered with a solution in some way.
The problem I am having is my phone is very slow at charging. I usually go to bed around 930-10 and place my phone on the charger and wake back up at 530am. My phone will be between 15-30%, going to bed and when I wake up it will only be anywhere from 60-90%. When I first bought the phone it would charge within a couple of hours. The phone was only 4 months old. I have already had best buy swap the phone, charger, and battery. I have also tried different outlets, on surge protectors and off surge protectors. I have tried different roms with different kernels. I have tried battery monitors and widgets. As well as turning on airplane mode and turning off the phone, with not much luck.
Im running out of ideas and still no solution. Please help.

I had exact same problem several times with combination of cleanrom + perseus kernel.
The solution was reflash perseus several times or stay with stock kernel.

I havent tried persus kernel yet. The problem all started on note 2 stock rom and kernel. I tried different roms and kernels in a attempt to see if it was with stock rom or stock kernel.
Looking up persus though, it looks alot better. I could possibly give it a try. Also I failed to mention that the best buy replacement charger is very suspect and I ordered an official samsung note 2 charger on ebay (hope its legit) in hopes that it could be a charger issue. It shipped yesterday. Ill repost if its a fix or not.

You can try this here to see what charging current your phone is getting while it's on the charger!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abmantis.galaxychargingcurrent.free
I'm getting 1698 mAh from my charger not using stock cable! Fyi
With stock cable, same charger, I'll get 1300 mAh output!
But with Perseus kernel then you'll get 1800 mAh max output charge! If you wanting a higher charging input.
Try to find a thicker cable should give you more output. I read it somewhere and tried it and it worked.

Forget about the 1968 all is good there.
AC wall charge should be at 900 & above , 900 & below are USB to PC charge values so you have a problem.
Best bet , Install different kernel

Now is that 900 and above for the "now" or max and avg? Cause like I said my now is above 900. I definitely will try a new kernel if you think it will help. Also like I mentioned before I thought it might of been the charger, then best buy sent me another samsung charger, but not a note 2 charger. It looks real sketchy. Like it came from the dollar store. So I bought my own (another) samsung galaxy note 2 charger and I am waiting for it to come in the mail, so I can give that one a try.

Your welcome bruh!!! Ok if your stock GN2 charger is not there and your using a different one then just wait till your other arrives! Because the other one might not be a true 2 amp. And giving you those faulty current flows!!!

While on AC wall max should be at 900 +......Same with Avg.
Its normal for values to vary, Sometimes when charging my Max reads 1800 yet Avg displays 1200.....its all over the place on some charges.
Don't let the numbers haunt you....been there done that , If device fully charges within 3.5 Hr your fine

Ok cool. I will definitely take that into consideration. Although I will say my avg and max are extremely low. Im betting its this charger. Hoping too. Ill find out in a day or two lol

Thanks alot for this. I recently switched rom and kernel with the Jedi x 15 rom and I am using that kernel. Dont know if I still need to apply this mod or not? I will say however that the phone did complete a full charge but at about 6hrs charging. I know that because I had "battery calibration" app installed and had it set to beep at 100% charge. The beep woke me up at aroubd 530 and I went to bed aroubd 11.
I also tracked the package for this new chsrger. It is said to be delievered today. So I hope that its a chsrger related issue. I will fill you guys in later today when it arrives.
Thanks everybody again.

I flashed xenonhd and battery life was messed up, tried different kernels too. So I flashed beanstalk, and when I tried charging it, it took hours to get from 67 - 73. Unplugged it, plugged it back in, everything is good now. Try a different cable or plug, don't do dirty flashes

Hey guys, small continuation of this thread...
I'm having the same issue, on Clean ROM 3.3, and Perseus. Dirty Flashes? What would constitute a dirty flash? For example...should I reflash Perseus (using TWRP), and if so, how do I flash it without it being dirty? LOL.

Need battery tips for 6+ hrs screen time

Hi guys using wicked with trinity 7b. See a few people posting 2 days on one charge and over 6 hours screen time. Would like to know how as i cannot get anywhere near that. I use system tuner, odex my Rom and kill my tasks whenever possible. I use lh2 modem.
Anyone with huge battery time please help us out here. I'm sure many of us would like some help. Also if you tweak your build.prop press share that.
Looking for details. I'm not a noob

They are not using the stock battery. If you want battery like that, buy an extended battery. That is the only answer.
What I find most telling in many of these screen shots is that Device Idle and Cell Standby are almost always in the top.

Cell standby is actually lying. It was coded with a decimal in the wrong place and so it shows that it uses a lot more than it actually does. Purely cosmetic really, but can be annoying when testing battery issues.
Edit: many custom roms have corrected this btw.

Ya, I saw that before. There is a zip floating around here somewhere that moves it from .34 to 3.4 and fixes it. But you're right that most custom ROMs have this (Cell Standby) fixed.
I just mainly think that Device Idle even being in the top 3 or 4 is a very telling sign that the phone is not being used very much.
Install the easy battery saver app.
I hate to be the jerk... but OP has spammed every rom thread nearly bugging about screen time. Nowadays its hard to get 6+ hours of screen time. Maybe switch to an older, dumber phone with not as sexy as display and you will have better luck. Or carry a spare battery... or strategically place chargers in common spots.

The only way i could probably make 6 hours screen on time would be to lower brightness all the way down, turn off data whenever Im not using it, turn of autosync, underclock and undervolt. But then what would be the point of me having such an awesome phone

I do all those things (-underclocking and undervolting), and more, because I don't need most of this on all the time, and my screen time is great. Plus, I bought a 4400mah extended battery & get 4-5 days on a single charge.
Then u need an old nokia.

Screen shots are great guys. I do want to see them. Most importantly trying to see if there are deeper settings and apps to freeze or avoid and tweaks to build.prop etc.
Rom and kernel and modem used would be helpful.
Also, you did charge but the timer will only reset when you fully charge the phone.

Universal car chargers are very bad for batteries. You always want to charge your phone more on the original charger. Only use a car charger when it is absolutely necessary to charge your phone.

Sprint will tell you it is a bad battery in order to keep from exchanging your device, this is the beginning part of the usb port starting to fail...I had this, I checked everywhere and then eventually the port gave in and went bad. Sprint exchanged my device.

Did you have to pay the $100 or whatever the cost of the deductible is?
Ever since I flashed agats 0.6.2 kernel my battery icon blinks. An even after unplugging the phone it still says its charging. Even if I take the battery out for hours today and put it back in it says charging on the lock screen and if I try to turn on adb it says please unplug usb cord. And the other weird thing is soon as I put the battery in it boots up with out holding the power button.

If it's the same problem, I think it has to do with the charging circuits. My battery charged fine on an external charger. In fact at the Sprint store the were going to give me the old battery in my new refurb. Told them I didn't want it if there was a possibility the voltage protection was going bad, might have shortened its life.

Charging from 0 to 90% happens in no more that 2 hours I would say. from 90% to 100% the charging rate gets slowed a lot. So basically shouldn't take more than 2:30 hours from 0 to 100%.
Thanks guys. Now I remember it was 2 hours 45 mins for me too at first.
Today it took 4 hrs 30 mins. Reason? I'll say tomorrow, after confirming.

you are welcome. the general rule is to try to 1) avoid charging to 100%, really diminishing return the higher it goes; and 2) avoid deep discharge cycle. I usually use 40% of the capacity at work everyday, so charge to ~70% in the morning, use down to ~30% and then charge again. charging time in this range is rather linear, about 1 percent a minute

Yeah, it happened to mine too few days back. My Note2 went crazy, taking around 7-8 hrs to fully charge from 15%. So, i tried searching about the problem on google but to no avail. Did a factory reset with cache wipe and problem solved :good:. Now it takes about 2.5 hrs to fully charge from say 10% (using the samsung wall charger with phone switched on). I can only say that the slow charging was caused due to some software but don't know exactly which one? You may as well try the hard reset if anything else doesn't work out .
P.S : Btw i'm on stock fw with no root or mod! Only did some OTA updates couple of weeks ago.
Guys, we have a changeable battery and is already writed Inside to android that it won't charge to 100%, it just shows at 100% but really it is at 95%-98% that feature came with 2.2.1 update 2yrs ago.
And we can change the battery after 2yrs for 20-30$, unlike Nokia lumia users or HTC one x or iPhone users.

Yeah, thanks. But if you've Watchdog installed then you can see which app is going over threshold and keep running on background. And yes, this time, again, the culprit was PowerAMP! Uninstalled it and voila. The same app created problem for me when I had my S2, charging was pathetically slow, even I had to go to SC and they said battery is gone. But I didn't believe and asked a techy friend and he said it might be some app, and damn right he was.
Anyway, if anyone having the same issue like mine, that is, charging duration has increased with Stock charger, then install Watchdog (the lite version will do) and see who is the culprit.
I have no idea how a top app like PowerAMP could cause this! Jeez!

The same problem happen to me few days ago..during that that i was charging using extension cable where 3 pin plug is sharing with my note 2, laptop n tablet charging @ the same time..its take nearly 4 hour for fully charge the note 2 while im using n charging my laptop n tablet..but, from that i understand that when the connection all charging at the same time on the same 3 pin plug, the load are higher which decrease the current value (current drop)..that the reason why my note 2 charging slow..check if OP case is same like me??

Hmm! Thanks.
Well I wasn't using the same plug point but the charger was connected to my Belkin Gold surge protector, where my whole PC and monitor is connected. Could that be a problem?

I have no idea how a top app like PowerAMP could cause this! Jeez!
Orly? Oo I use PowerAmp and have no such problems. Use betterbatterystats to find out what's going on... It's not PA.

Is this long-charging-time problem a single occurrence or you are consistently having this problem?

LG chargers?

For some reason when I check the Battery section in Settings whenever in charging my phone with a wall outlet with a LG charger it shows that I'm being charged as USB and not AC... Is this normal? Even now my phone is losing battery strength and I'm barely using it..

You have to use a 1amp charger or its not strong enough doesn't matter who makes it...
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
You have to use an official Sammy charger. The pins are switched around on Sammy chargers and the phone can tell the difference. Use ANY other charger, no matter the brand or amperage, and the phone will only charge at 350mah. Use a Sammy charger, and it will charge at the full 750mah or 1amp depending on the output of the charger. I have a stock 700mah Sammy charger, a 1amp iPhone charger, a few HTC chargers and 2 amp Sammy tablet charger. If I use the 1 amp Apple charger or any of the HTC chargers it takes 5-8 hours to fully charge. If I use the Sammy chargers it takes 2-3 hours to fully charge at the max. So.. yea. Get a stock Samsung charger.

I use all kinds of chargers and I have no problems...actually the htc charger charges faster than the Samsung one...I'm an electronics tech...trust me just make sure it's 1amp

Straight from TDJ himself. The phone CAN tell. Like I said I have several chargers and only the Sammy ones charge super fast. Not only that but working in a T-Mobile corporate store, I see the same thing everyday at work.

OK now I know you're full of ****. I have a 2amp Samsung tablet charger that doesn't even charge the phone that fast. It takes 3 hours at the minimum for this phone to go from 0% to a full charge.
Also you wouldn't trust everything Derek says?? You're a noob bro. TDJ has been around since the mytouch days and even though he's gone his evolution series of ROMs for this phone are still the most popular with his ROM thread having over 1 million views. Check yourself dude. Not only that, if you actually clicked the link you'd see that the info he provided was pulled straight from the kernel. He wasn't making it up...

Yes DUH. Because if you read the damn link I posted it CLEARLY says the kernel only allows the phone to charge at 900mah an hour or whatever the charger is rated at if it's below that number.
I'm not arguing with you anymore dude. Not only are you full of it but you apparently like to lie too. Your phone, no matter what charger you use, won't charge as fast unless you're using the Samsung charger. And even then, at 900mah an hour, it still takes almost 3 hours to fully charge with the phone on.
Also you're a flat out non appreciative douche. If it wasn't for TDJ lots would still be broken on this phone. You have plenty to thank him for and maybe if you played attention to what was going on in his threads you would understand why he left and came back a few times. YOU are what's wrong with xda. Making absurd claims that not only myself but PLENTY of other members know are untrue and criticizing others, especially recognized developers, without contributing a damn thing yourself.
Also let me add that you haven't been here longer than I have. You started your account on June 1st 2008, I started mine in March of 2008. Your idiocy is unfathomable.

O wow 3 whole months now you show you arrogance...anyone on here who has a Samsung phone will testify the fact that their phone charge just fine and just as fast of any charger they use that is one amp anybody disagrees with this let them come forward...just look it up... What the OP stated that his phone was discharging while using and all I did was try to help him and tell him the reason why that was happening...and your three months doesn't make you smarter than me.... Why don't you show proof of an article or a link that tells anybody on here at Samsung Chargers are the only charger that will charger phone properly... Besides Samsung that will tell you that just because they want you to buy their charger

Slow Charging

My phone takes 5 to 6 hours to fully charge. It started about 3 days ago. I've tried Odin back to stock. I've tried different ROMs. I have also tried changing chargers and even a different battery. What can this be. It sucks to have to wait so long for my phone to charge.

It started on liquid with stock kernel then I tried devil kernel and nothing. Then I went Jedi x then to carbon. And now I'm on slim ROM. I haven't changed kernels anymore because I'm getting great battery life on slim but the charging is still slow.

I remember you asked this question about the Perseus kernel also if your running slim 4.2 neak kernel v2.1 has a fast charge setting if on 4.2 download the neak kernel 2.1 and the uneak engine from the play store to utilize all the kernel has to offer

I had slow charging issues on Carbon, but it's been fine on any other rom I've used. I also use NEAK kernel now and no issues here. Rootbox actually works great with NEAK and no charging issues whatsoever. You should give that a try if you don't want to use touchwiz. www.rootbox.ca
What worked for me I just removed the battery and cleaned the contacts of the battery and phone I don't know it might work for u. Good luck.!

Thank you guys for your input. I've been using neak kernel and uneak engine and I wouldn't say my charging is like when I got the phone, but its definitely not taking 6 hours to charge. Its taking maybe 4 now.

They all the same t0lteatt or t0lte. Used both.
Try changing charging cable, the factory one is not good in quality. There's an app that show how many current is taking the n2 when charging. That will give you a glimpse to know what is the cause. Mine was the cable. Hope it helps!

Wife had the same trouble, new cord fixed it... then I had the same issue, new cord, fixed it again.
we went from charging for 6 hours and not hitting 100% (starting from about 50) to going from about 70% to 100% in about 1 hour and still (mildly) using the phone
Change your cord guys, the samsung one stops working so well after a while. also you can use "galaxy charging current" app from app store to see if you are getting good charge levels
