Need battery tips for 6+ hrs screen time - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hi guys using wicked with trinity 7b. See a few people posting 2 days on one charge and over 6 hours screen time. Would like to know how as i cannot get anywhere near that. I use system tuner, odex my Rom and kill my tasks whenever possible. I use lh2 modem.
Anyone with huge battery time please help us out here. I'm sure many of us would like some help. Also if you tweak your build.prop press share that.
Looking for details. I'm not a noob

They are not using the stock battery. If you want battery like that, buy an extended battery. That is the only answer.

What I find most telling in many of these screen shots is that Device Idle and Cell Standby are almost always in the top.

Cell standby is actually lying. It was coded with a decimal in the wrong place and so it shows that it uses a lot more than it actually does. Purely cosmetic really, but can be annoying when testing battery issues.
Edit: many custom roms have corrected this btw.

No it's on stock battery. I get about 5 hours now looking to take it to a higher level. Pun intended

Ya, I saw that before. There is a zip floating around here somewhere that moves it from .34 to 3.4 and fixes it. But you're right that most custom ROMs have this (Cell Standby) fixed.
I just mainly think that Device Idle even being in the top 3 or 4 is a very telling sign that the phone is not being used very much.

Install the easy battery saver app.

I hate to be the jerk... but OP has spammed every rom thread nearly bugging about screen time. Nowadays its hard to get 6+ hours of screen time. Maybe switch to an older, dumber phone with not as sexy as display and you will have better luck. Or carry a spare battery... or strategically place chargers in common spots.

The only way i could probably make 6 hours screen on time would be to lower brightness all the way down, turn off data whenever Im not using it, turn of autosync, underclock and undervolt. But then what would be the point of me having such an awesome phone

I do all those things (-underclocking and undervolting), and more, because I don't need most of this on all the time, and my screen time is great. Plus, I bought a 4400mah extended battery & get 4-5 days on a single charge.

Then u need an old nokia.

When you plug you phone in the charger the hours reset, my screenshots were to show that its not impossible to get 6+ hours, if I under clock and turn everything off I can probably get that.
The liquid smooth ROM has amazing battery life, you should give it a try I think you will like it.

Screen shots are great guys. I do want to see them. Most importantly trying to see if there are deeper settings and apps to freeze or avoid and tweaks to build.prop etc.
Rom and kernel and modem used would be helpful.
Also, you did charge but the timer will only reset when you fully charge the phone.

Please help me with my Nexus

How do I get this phone to hold a charge for a day? Right now I get about 6 hours of battery life if I am lucky on decent use.
It is rooted on a black ice rom, running that Franco kernel. Is there something that I am not doing? Do I have to overclock it or?
I seriously almost traded it it for an iPhone just because of the battery issue. Like, it drives me insane and it takes away my freedom lol
Any help would be great

if you're only getting 6 hours, then you're a heavy user. Not much you can do about that, except use your phone less or charge it more.
Run stock for a while...

I'm on sprint and out of the box it was bad bad battery life. I'm sticking with it though hoping someone comes up with a way to get better life out of it.
Use an app like CPUSpy to see if your CPU is ever going into Deep Sleep mode, and an app like BetterBatteryStats to figure out why not. You can also look at Settings > Battery to see what's using up your battery. Tapping the graph at the top may give you more details.
I really am not a heavy user.
So switch it back to stock?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Usage varies man .. i have decent battery life so far with Franco 185 linaro with AOKP linaro rom. I keep the governor set to conservative . And I do overclock as much as I can ...might even be better if I didn't do that . But I get around 10- 14 hours on that setup . I text a good bit and twitter occasionally but spend most of my time on flud news reader. If you stream music all day or Netflix or something then you aren't going to get great battery life .
Make sure your screen brightness isn't high when you don't need it to be ..since the screen is generally what uses the most battery .
My best battery was with lean kernel and slim rom 4 ...but since I went to this new linaro I will forfeit a little battery for fluidity.
The key is just to experiment. There are lots of combos out there and they all work differently for us. There isn't exactly a one stop solution . Just tinker and you will find the light
Ps: I have the 2200 extended battery from Verizon . It is a necessity if you wanna get normal usage. They are listed at forty bucks or something through Verizon ...but if you go to the store they sell them for 20.

Best solution would be to get an extended battery to last you the whole day or an extra cheap one to swap with at the middle of the day

Yes, do this before blaming the phone. Also pay attention to the apps you install and see if any of them are causing the problem. Stock roms are usually less buggy than custom roms.
You would also get more help with your Question in the actual Q&A section.

I get phenomenal battery life out of my S3 (stock).
I had an Epic 4G and was afraid to leave my desk because of the battery drain. With moderate usage (30-60 mins talk time, texting, chat, some web, exchange, ect) I can easily get 16-20 hours. Signal quality in your area will impact it more than anything. Also, wifi is vastly easier on the battery.
PS Facebook app SUCKS. Just bookmark the webpage and use that. Works better and doesn't ruin your phone.

Post a screen shot and I'll tell ya what could be happening.
You can improve battery life by switching to custom roms with less bloatware, and updating to more efficient kernels. (This is on a Rom/Kernel level)
Software wise, just figure out what apps are causing wake times and try not to use them. Basically whenever an app/widget refreshes/updates content, it may cause phone to wake (like weather/clock widgets for example).
I have been using cpusleep and it seems to have helped my battery life ... also using a custom rom without the bloatware is key for me.
my current setup is freegs3 release 6 with the latest trinity kernel...even though its overclocked my battery has been amazing and phone has worked flawless.
Im also using system tuner which has given me the ability to manage the cpu with on demand and other customizable settings
The only thing I synch is my k9 mail account
I also have frozen several samsung apps which helped...
Im now getting over 20 hours of basic use between charges...I dont use games/videos so might be a little skewed . I use this phone for business calls/internet/messaging/photos/navi...pretty basic

Even with GPS, WIFI, and screen at full brightness I can make it through the entire day with 30-40% battery left. If your looking for a rom-based solution to your battery life, check it out!

I, personally, don't focus on battery life at all. I run Bluetooth all day, listening to my music, play games on it during my lunch hour and other times throughout the day and send texts/emails off and on all day, and it's down to about 40% by the time I leave work on a normal day. That's unplugging at around 7:30AM, and leaving work at about 5-5:30PM, so that's about 10 hours mid-heavy consistent usage.
To me, as long as I get my full day out of it, I'm perfectly content with it. I don't need my device to be a battery warrior, I need it to be a power beast and do what I want it to do, when I want it to do it. I personally dislike apps like Juice Defender and those that disable radios and data on me. I also don't like using CPU scripts to limit the CPU, undervolt it and all that. To me, it just seems contradicting to buy a powerhouse like the S3 and then strip away it's best and most powerful features. I also don't like the small influx of bugs that arise when you start doing things like disabling data and limiting the CPU/voltage. I like my smartphone to be as smooth as possible, all the time, without any hitches/bugs.
I'm a very heavy user and rely on certain notifications as they are sent out, so extending the battery by an hour or two is the most I could hope to gain by using these apps/scripts, and the level of frustration that come with them when I get syncs late or things are sluggish isn't worth it, imho.
Don't take that the wrong way, I'm not saying they are bad apps at all, nor are the CPU scripts completely pointless. I would give them a high rating if asked, because they do their functions well. I'm just saying they don't work for the way I use my device.
2nd day on Goodness 7.03 with the stock kernel, considering my average use it's pretty sweet by the end of the day.
P.S. loving the goodness, has to be tied with wicked sensations for #1 rom in my book

Extreme battery drain

I can only use my phone for around 5hours on time until she dies. This is super annoying because of school it dies before lunch :/. Have flashed many different ROMs, tried different radios, one or two ROMs seemed to fix this but don't remember which ones did . Phone dies 1% every 3 minutes it feels, this is retarded is there any known issues with that or fixes? Sticking with juice defender till I find a better option

Read my reply to the post here. It's an optional and known way of saving battery life for almost any Android phone and help prevent any overheating that you may experience with the phone.
Is your GPS on all the time? Account sync? Settings and data backup? Auto brightness or manual?
Always let the phone drain to 10% or less then fully charge it uninterruped, meaning dont unplug it.
CPU management always helps, especially with screen off. Also use wifi instead of data if avail at school or anywhere else for that matter

I'm betting its the battery. Place it on a flat surface. If it doesn't lay flat and it has a bulge that causes it to bounce around, your batteries screwed.

Got gsam, have ran it for a day. 100% at 6:00 am, 31% at 3:57 pm. This normal ? I flashed back to stock koodo everything , so is this just the quality of the phone? Yes, GPS is always on. Data is normally left on, although I do turn off WiFi from time to time. I used to have a nexus s and the battery would last for days, yet it's smaller and I never had to turn off things. I even get battery drain like this on cm based ROMs ?!

I went from Jedi Knight 6 to Jedi Jelly 4 two days ago and the Rom is super fast and snappy. Very little lag and no issues with fc so far. I do have a little bit of a battery issue myself. When I use the phone for anything I can sit there for an hour and watch the phone dip to below 80% after a full charge. It seems to eat battery when in use but overnight I get almost 14 hours of left untouched. I would like to get at least 8 hours with medium to heavy use. Is that a reasonable number? I have gone through three battery cycles so far.

I got 9 days and only down to 38%

Kind of misleading title. I have had my Note 2 running on CleanRom 4.2.5 and have had it sitting in the cupboard. It has a little over 9 days on it with 38% battery left. No, I have not been using it.
I think I figured out how the manufacturer obtains their inflated stand by times. I don't have a SIM card in it and it doesn't have wifi on.
I am really surprised that having wifi on/mobile data on/ and sim card in my regular note 2, that the battery draw is so much more.
My daily note is running cleanrom 4.0.5 but I have not compared the two roms on the same phone for standby times.
Mobile network searching, syncing multiple accounts etc will all drain battery. Doesn't matter if its iOS, WP8,BB10 etc. Airplane mode any phone and it will last for days

Well, basically hot plugging turns off CPU cores when they are not needed to save battery. Hot plugging is also in affect when you are using the phone too. If the phone is not using a whole lot of power to process data, it will maybe only use 3 cores instead of all 4 to save battery. The standard Pegasusq governor is equipped with the hot plugging feature and that's why the stock Note 2 has such good battery life. But of course, that's not the only thing that makes this thing last a long time

A lot of bloatware removed.
Screen on time after normal charge: 7-8 hours always.
I don't personally think it's that great. Especially if the screen hasn't been turned on and it's not searching for wifi or mobile data. My old GS2 with AOKP 4.1.2 (Task650 ROM) went 28 days 21 hours 37 minutes and 15 seconds till it dropped to 5% and finally shut off. That's a long time lol.
