I got 9 days and only down to 38% - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Kind of misleading title. I have had my Note 2 running on CleanRom 4.2.5 and have had it sitting in the cupboard. It has a little over 9 days on it with 38% battery left. No, I have not been using it.
I think I figured out how the manufacturer obtains their inflated stand by times. I don't have a SIM card in it and it doesn't have wifi on.
I am really surprised that having wifi on/mobile data on/ and sim card in my regular note 2, that the battery draw is so much more.
My daily note is running cleanrom 4.0.5 but I have not compared the two roms on the same phone for standby times.

Mobile network searching, syncing multiple accounts etc will all drain battery. Doesn't matter if its iOS, WP8,BB10 etc. Airplane mode any phone and it will last for days

Well, basically hot plugging turns off CPU cores when they are not needed to save battery. Hot plugging is also in affect when you are using the phone too. If the phone is not using a whole lot of power to process data, it will maybe only use 3 cores instead of all 4 to save battery. The standard Pegasusq governor is equipped with the hot plugging feature and that's why the stock Note 2 has such good battery life. But of course, that's not the only thing that makes this thing last a long time

How hot does your S3 get?

Ha! Try hours with GPS, Bluetooth music and Tethering on... the heat seems to really hit while I'm charging and doing all that. Fact! I can't touch the ass end of the phone. It probably gets about 8 hours a week like that. Still working perfectly. Samsung tells me it's normal. It also has a lot of factors for me too. I use a 1 amp charger. After 96% it's not so bad. At night when brightness is down. Not as hot. I tried to get it to mess up but couldn't. GPS, Bluetooth, tethering, charging from 30% and 100% display, and I pushed out to a low coverage area. Didn't miss a beat or melt. Lol.

Navigation makes phones really hot, but with normal usage it should stay within 30-36°C.
I like this phone's heat management more than my old phone. My Evo 3d would get hot from 10 min usage.
On this, my screen has been on for 2 hours straight and I'm running at a cool 35.1 °C.

It actually shouldn't be expected. The Snapdragon S3's also ran at 1.5ghz and was pleasantly cool and the Exynos on the Galaxy Note was at 1.4ghz. Both are less power efficient and should run hotter than the S4. I've used the Evo LTE for a while with the same S4 and it barely got warm on a hot day. The issue is with the second core being weird. For those that hasn't already, make sure you flash Freeza's fix, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790061 . This fix made my phone cool and got rid of my quickly draining battery life.
Most of the time my phone will stay within "normal" (to me) range, but when I game heavily... it turns into an oven range! I've gotten so paranoid a few times, I took the battery out and let it cooled for 5-10min
Im having the same problem....it isnt the software thats causing this its the hardware

Thanks.

Need battery tips for 6+ hrs screen time

Hi guys using wicked with trinity 7b. See a few people posting 2 days on one charge and over 6 hours screen time. Would like to know how as i cannot get anywhere near that. I use system tuner, odex my Rom and kill my tasks whenever possible. I use lh2 modem.
Anyone with huge battery time please help us out here. I'm sure many of us would like some help. Also if you tweak your build.prop press share that.
Looking for details. I'm not a noob

They are not using the stock battery. If you want battery like that, buy an extended battery. That is the only answer.
What I find most telling in many of these screen shots is that Device Idle and Cell Standby are almost always in the top.

Cell standby is actually lying. It was coded with a decimal in the wrong place and so it shows that it uses a lot more than it actually does. Purely cosmetic really, but can be annoying when testing battery issues.
Edit: many custom roms have corrected this btw.

Ya, I saw that before. There is a zip floating around here somewhere that moves it from .34 to 3.4 and fixes it. But you're right that most custom ROMs have this (Cell Standby) fixed.
I just mainly think that Device Idle even being in the top 3 or 4 is a very telling sign that the phone is not being used very much.
Install the easy battery saver app.
I hate to be the jerk... but OP has spammed every rom thread nearly bugging about screen time. Nowadays its hard to get 6+ hours of screen time. Maybe switch to an older, dumber phone with not as sexy as display and you will have better luck. Or carry a spare battery... or strategically place chargers in common spots.

I do all those things (-underclocking and undervolting), and more, because I don't need most of this on all the time, and my screen time is great. Plus, I bought a 4400mah extended battery & get 4-5 days on a single charge.

I, personally, don't focus on battery life at all. I run Bluetooth all day, listening to my music, play games on it during my lunch hour and other times throughout the day and send texts/emails off and on all day, and it's down to about 40% by the time I leave work on a normal day. That's unplugging at around 7:30AM, and leaving work at about 5-5:30PM, so that's about 10 hours mid-heavy consistent usage.
To me, as long as I get my full day out of it, I'm perfectly content with it. I don't need my device to be a battery warrior, I need it to be a power beast and do what I want it to do, when I want it to do it. I personally dislike apps like Juice Defender and those that disable radios and data on me. I also don't like using CPU scripts to limit the CPU, undervolt it and all that. To me, it just seems contradicting to buy a powerhouse like the S3 and then strip away it's best and most powerful features. I also don't like the small influx of bugs that arise when you start doing things like disabling data and limiting the CPU/voltage. I like my smartphone to be as smooth as possible, all the time, without any hitches/bugs.
I'm a very heavy user and rely on certain notifications as they are sent out, so extending the battery by an hour or two is the most I could hope to gain by using these apps/scripts, and the level of frustration that come with them when I get syncs late or things are sluggish isn't worth it, imho.
Don't take that the wrong way, I'm not saying they are bad apps at all, nor are the CPU scripts completely pointless. I would give them a high rating if asked, because they do their functions well. I'm just saying they don't work for the way I use my device.
2nd day on Goodness 7.03 with the stock kernel, considering my average use it's pretty sweet by the end of the day.
P.S. loving the goodness, has to be tied with wicked sensations for #1 rom in my book

Turned off diagnostics how does that affect battery life? And that usage was on 4g just got home and turned on WiFi. GPS is always off. Anything else?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Turning GPS and WIFI off makes no difference. Those draw no power unless they're in use. WIFI only passively looks for a signal when it's on (every 30 seconds and gps is only active if an app uses it. Juice Defender will cause your battery to drain faster too.

T-Mobile Galaxy S 3, stock and rooted.
Actually the 4G radio uses more battery than wifi. Wifi can turn itself off after inactivity, having apps syncing all the time if you have it on will drain battery immensely. Mainly because it's suppose to be sleeping yet it still running and working and those apps will have a great time doing that. also depends how long you had phone, I have read batteries tend to drain faster after about 5 to 6 months of use.

It's almost like I'm afraid to use my phone because it'll die.. Very frustrating ik. Hopefully Google addresses this issue in android 4.3 (presumably key lime pie)
Until then, turn off Google Now, and maybe try to pinpoint some random app possibly causing wake locks and not letting the phone sleep properly (with the use of this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 )
Also, I highly recommend checking out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1969741

Check the battery stats for "gpsd". Mine started draining after updating to 4.1.2. It appears (for me at least) that the Samsung "find-your-phone-if someone-steels-it" was behaving badly.
If this is the case for you. Switch the service/function of and notify Samsung.
How many hours do you get when your battery is draining fast?
My stock phone started to drain fast as well. Within 6 hours unplugged I see myself having only 60 percent remaining with barely an hour screen on time. I tried to narrow it down to a rogue app but it seems the OTA was more plausable and easier to blame lol
Now back to using Jedi again.

Are you sure Dive and the remote control functions are supported on our phone?
My phone isn't rooted. And Im new too this so I'm a little bit lost on what to do. Before that T-Mobile update I would get 24hrs+ but I'm lucky enough too get 8hrs and that's without heavy use

It's called DIVE and does more than just recover lost phones, it is a management suite, not that I've spent a lot of time on it so far.

That's only for international version like N7100... US don't get that feature on T889.

That's not it ever since this multiwindow update battery life has diminished. I can't figure it out. Like right now all I did is a little bit of fb twitter Tapatalk gps music and thats it and its at 38% unplugged since 6 hrs and on screen time is 2 hrs.

I turned off the multi window under settings cause I rarely use it and ive been unplugged for 9 hrs and have 56% left I also am syncing manually. Hopefully this will help

Yea multi view does seem to contribute to see extra drain. But as I see it my phone lasts all day no matter what I do to it. I've never EVER had to say...dang where's my charger. Not with this phone. It's perfect for me . I use it HEAVILY
I trade commodities so I'm constantly on the Internet and syncing prices all day long. I don't use wifi. Ever
