I've been flashing a few different ROM's recently, trying to find one which suits my needs, and honestly I'm still looking. All was well and my phone working with great signal and then i decided to install Viper and everything has since gone to hell in a handcart.
My signal strength has dropped massively and I barely get any signal in my normal "chilling spot" in my house.
I've tried flashing different radios and nothing seems to be working. I even tried flashing back to stock and that hasn't corrected it either. I'm about 9 months from being able to upgrade and need this to work, so any input would be appreciated. This is doing my friggin nut in...

Or go back to what you had before.
I have tried reflashing different ROM's and that hasn't corrected the problem as I said in my original post.
I'm gonna give it one last shot then its going on the Bay and I'll take my chances with my old HD2 for 9 months...

Before you flog it are you sure its not a hardware issue and its coincidence on the Rom ? Have you checked out the threads on aerial/back cover contacts issues?

The phone has never been opened up and up until the flash of viper i've always had full signal in my little chill out spot in the house. Its weird, but I doubt its hardware related.
I've managed to get a RUU for my credentials and am gonna flash it back to as it was when I bought it and see if that cures the issue, if it doesnt, then its going on Ebay. I've had enough.

I want to flash a new radio to my T-Mobile G2 but i am Really scared on which one i can and cannot flash because they can brick my phone. Any Suggestions and or comments/advice? I have read over the offical Radio Thread and cannot find anything to specify which is which. Thanks in advance
-Chris
Im fairly certain that all the radios so far in the Radio Thread can be used with the G2, I myself have used these three:
Vision_RADIO_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17( best results for me with this one)
Vision_RADIO_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26
Vision_TMOUS_RADIO_12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15 (G2)
don't worry as long as you have prem root and s-off with eng-hboot you should be fine flashing a radio. I was able to flash it using PC10IMG way and it worked fine lol

Thanks for the quick response! Is "Vision_RADIO_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17" the best one so far to use? I just flashed it and everything went okay but i cant really see if it improved anything.... :/
Well there's a new one out but its not posted in the offical radio thread yet (maybe it is haven't check yet lol). Well for me I mainly saw a diffrence with the signal bar never going to zero. Most of the time its 1-3 bars at the 1st floor of my house and on the second floor I get about full bars at the most. Oh yea for some reason I saw that my wifi was stronger to but don't know if the radio fixed that to

I flashed the new radio and RiL files, this was about a week ago and I have to say the battery life as well as the signal and data is far better. The GPS is more stable than ever. I am one happy noob. LOL Thanks for the instructions and the links.
This is the radio I use

Been there done that. Messes with your network connectivity. Don't do that. Stick with stock radio.

Whether a particular radio improves reception (and therefore battery drain) or hurts it, often depends on your local geography. Newer radios often have other fixes as well, so they are a good place to start. But its usually more trial and error, and there is no overall "best" or "better" radio.
Also, there is not one "stock" radio. It depends on what version of the phone you have, what region/carrier, and when you got your phone. There are often different radios for different carriers, and each carrier usually gets a radio updates, which then get installed on the phones as they ship.
If you don't understand these concepts, you probably should not be flashing any radios on your phone to begin with.
Your better off going to this thread for RADIO'S http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809
All the links in the 2nd post above are megaupload and there's only a few radio's more have surfaced over time.
ok maybe im on the wrong thread but idk. I had the CM6.1.1 and was working fine for awhile then suddenly im losing FULL data on and off. i'd have to switch it to 2G and back off to get the H of 4G and it'll only work for a few hours then i'd have to repeat it again. so I unrooted and sent it for a replacement thinking it was the G2 but now im having the same problem on CM7 2 weeks after replacing the G2. WTH?!?! is a new way of google shut us root users down?? i tried eveyrhing. wipe, reinstall nothing.. no luck
Hmm not positive but sounds like something on your end. If tmobile was actually implementing something like this we would all know about it and/or the forums would be blowing up. Not sure what advice to give you on what to fix it though.

I rooted my GF g2 with sense and it works fine no issues and she ran it for months now..probably it something on my end since im the only one having this issue. but i didnt do anything besides root, DL rom.. thats it. i cant see how a few weeks later im losing data outta nowhere. i dont experiment with nighties or radios i just stick to one rom. hmm.. looks like im gonna have to toy with it for a while to ge it right again...

FWIW, i've had a ton of problems with the data connection over the past few days. sometimes (like now) i get data speed upwards of 4,200kbps with a lowww 67MS ping.
but for the most part data has been either non existant. issues started when i flashed CM7.0, went back to RC2 and things seem to be working much better.
had a bunch of other problems with CM7 tho, so i might have borked the install.

Your phone hates you and wants you to suffer for committing the crime of posting a "Q&A" topic in the "Development" section.
It doesn't sound like anything on your end. There are two things your gonna want to do here. The first is check you sim card, where the gold part is. Look to see if there is something near the gold piece that looks like TM*****. If not then replace your sim card. If you do have that then call tech support and have them file a Service Request if this is something that only happens in around a 7 mile are, if it happens everywhere you are then your gonna have to have a trouble ticket filled for your line.

i already did all this when i had this prob on the 1st G2. so what im trying now is erasing everything, flash rom see if that works if it doesnt im gonna unroot, REroot flash rom. it doesnt work im sending this in for a replacement too (for the second time)
I am not on Tmobile, but I had a similiar problem... It turned out to be from using superbattery app... It actualy modifies the radio/ril some how.. and flashing a new rom/restoring stock, nothing worked, untill I flashed my same radio again.... Then it was fixed..... It is worth a try.

wth.. i unrooted, flashed stock OS, re rooted, flashed RC2, was fine for an hour then again.. NO DATA! WTF!?!?! i guess i gotta mess wit he radios? i dont even know how to do that never went that far.
I got a 3 PAYG sim last month for the all you can eat data plan. It was working perfectly for 3 weeks, full signal. I used CM7 RC1 for a while however after a smooth start the number of forced closes began driving me mad.
My 3 signal indoors just disappeared all together one day this week. I decided to change ROM and did a full clean install of JokerDroid 4.2. (not because I thought CM7 was causing any signal issues, just the force closes and thought I'd try something new)
I have Android Version 2.2.1
Baseband version 13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10
Kernel Version 2.6.32.39-nFinity
Build number 2.37.415.1
My problem is my signal and I don't know whether it's 3 or the phone. Indoors I have nothing, occasionally 1 bar at best. Outside, it works fine. My phone randomly decides I am roaming and gives me a full signal with a little R sign indoors.
I have also noticed that where previously in CM7 it said I was connected to 3, in JokerDroid 4.2 it says 3G-3.
My Girlfriend also got a 3 sim card at the same time as me and she has a nokia 6303c, She has experienced no problems and continues to have full signal everywhere. I switched sims between phones, mine works perfectly in her phone and hers doesn't work in mine.
Can anyone suggest what is happening here? Is my phone broken? is it a 3 problem? is there a simple fix?
I have searched a forum for 3 and there seems to be a lot of compaints about 3 switching off 2g coverage, could this be the problem? The threads where a few months ago and I don't know if this explains the difference between the wildfire and the nokia either.
Any help much obliged.

Done that.
I searched the forum and someone had suggested that but nothing changed.
I am thinking of wiping everything again in recovery, flashing the radio and then flashing the rom.
I just wish I knew for sure it was the phone and not 3. I will try a different network provider asap.

I am also on 3, personally I do think they have a poorer signal than O2 or T-Mobile (/Orange now) but I very rarely lose all signal...

I thought so to but I was really pleased with it. It has only just happened in the past week that it is not working however it works great on an older nokia phone.
Going to try a clean install again even though I'm not convinced it will help.
Any luck?

Ok i am not new at flashing and android, but i am stumped. Here lately I have been getting the dreaded circle with the line through it.. I have flashed radios through Odin and recovery, reflashed roms in both methods and even Kies... and also done a nandroid restore of a rom before this happened. When it finally gets connected (after 10 minutes, sometimes longer) i have not problems until i reboot and it and i have to go through the same process of trying to get signal.... any help would be appreciated. or point me in the right direction... i am currently running stock unrooted 2.3.6...
I have also tried my sim in another phone and my daughters sim in mine same thing with my daughters sim.. just throwing that out there..
*bump* no one have this problem?
hmm. flashed Darkside and it seemed to have an effect on it... took only 3 min to get signal... weird!!!!
going to reboot in a sec to see what happens
NVM did it again...

I have spoken to top tier support multiple times. The Field Engineering teams are involved now. Its unique here because on their coverage map I am in Excellent area. I'll have 3-4 bars show 4G yet I do not get a data connection. I called back and should be hearing back by the 17th. My ticket has been open for months... Afraid my device is defective or only works half the time. I am very low on apps and never install much. This is a bad situation for me. House phone and work device.
yes that does suck bad!!! but it is weird, in my case... just one day stopped after a reboot... my other devices work fine...

Exact same thing here. Stopped randomly first day... totally intermittent after! It was ironic because I had held off grabbing the GS2 because of Samsungs GPS issues with the Vibrant and first week I had my GS2 I was extremely happy. Rest is history I guess. Hope yours starts working again.
I'm at a loss here. In my office, I used to get a small amount of signal enough to receive phone calls and SMS. I was running Aeroevan's CM9 with no issues. I decided to take a stab at his CM10 release, but it never worked for me (could never get past the loading screen).
I updated with his 10.5 kernel, flashed the ROM, flashed the JB GAPPS and when that failed me a couple times - I reverted back to my nandroid backup. Ever since the Nandroid backup, I get zero signal. Not even a smidgen and I can only get something if I walk towards the window. The signal was never the greatest to begin with, but I always had something.
I've reverted to his v9 kernel and just tried reflashing CM9 from scratch (full wipe) and that didn't help. I'm at a loss of what caused this.
I'll add that I also tried dialing *228 when I stepped out of my office and activated/updated successfully but still no luck. The signal is fine when I'm outside and I'll get something when I stand next to a window.

I'm on the latest one however I think I found the culprit. I had bought a new back cover for my phone, the white OEM one and it seemed to have messed with the signal a little bit. I went back to the original cover and getting the signal I was used to. I'm gonna bring in problematic cover to work tomorrow and take them on/off and see if that is the case.
If anybody's curious - I bought this http://www.ebay.com/itm/25109038219...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_1874wt_1163

I hear the newest radio has worse signal for most than the one before it. You might look into that too if aren't happy with the results from changing your back cover.
