So, I recently got a Galaxy S4 as a phone from my job, on T-Mobile. After looking up some tutorials, I tried to use motochopper. It didn't work, and instead I lost my data. Wifi is fine, but otherwise if I try to load a page in Chrome, I'm redirected to a T-Mobile page saying my phone doesn't have a data plan associated with it.
Anyone have any idea what's going on here? If it's something simple (like, a setting that got overwritten), I could easily grab that from a co-worker's phone.

Well that's quite strange, you never loose data when you use motochopper. Please check whether the problem is something else. Well i guess you accidentally wiped out the data will downloading the application. But i will recommend you to contact T Mobile whether it is a glitch from their side.

Try this. Go to your settings> more networks> access point names> menu, then enter the following:
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: Not set
MMS port: Not set
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Auth: Not set
APN type: default,mms,supl
APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Let me know if it works friend. Don't forget to select it. It worked for me .

I can't seem to get wireless tethering to work. My GSM Nexus is rooted. The WiFi Tether app runs as it should but the APN never shows up in wireless network lists. I used the same app flawlessly on a rooted Desire. I'm on Vodafone who actively promote using phones for tethering so there is no issue there.
Running stock Android 4.1.1. Root is checked and confirmed with Root Checker. SU appears to be up to date.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks
try selecting your phone model in the wifi tether app settings.
For me, it would always say "connected" but no other information and would not show up on wifi networks. I selected Galaxy Nexus in the settings of the app ( even though Im on a HTC VIVID, just for one more day until I get my nexus) and the second time after connecting, It also displayed upload and download realtime information.
Somethings you just have to nudge these things a bit
Have you tried turning on the WiFi tethering via the native settings menu, rather than an app?

Thanks for the suggestion but I've already done that. I tried Auto, Generic, both Nexus options and the Galaxy S2 options plus a couple of other randoms from the list just for good measure. None seem to work at all. I've also tested the APN on a laptop, my TF300T pad and my old Desire and it doesn't show on any of them so it must be the Nexus at fault.

Yeah, I did. It connected but I couldn't surf at all even with good 3G/H reception. I tried both wifi and BT using my ASUS pad.
I just got my nexus, a few hours ago.
I set up my phone, I am on AT&T (without a wifi plan, grandfathered into "unlimited" )
I turned on wifi hotspot, system wifi hotspot not a playstore app.
and...well..it works for me without any problems.
I did add the at&t pta apn. I know its not an LTE phone, but the PTA apn has pretty good service compared to the others.

if you are on AT&T try adding the pta apn and see if that helps?
if on a different network, search and see if you can find other apn settings.
After flashing my phone it can't connect to the mobile data network. I re-flashed the phone back to stock and it still doesn't work. On wi-fi the phone works fine. The 4g symbol shows up with the upload download arrows flashing but I don't get any signal.
Can someone please help me? I'm really frustrated...
Flash a different modem?
Did you check maybe you lost the imei on the process of flashing
If 4g is displsyed its probably not imei, but check it anyway.
Also turn off wifi calling and see if thst hss any affect.

You'll be amazed at what a battery pull can fix.
I've tried multiple roms with different radios/modems but no luck.
The IMEI is still there. I don't know what the problem is... For example though, every time I try to go to a website, it gets automatically redirected to http://androidapi.t-mobile.com/apppack/mvno.html I doubt that means anything but just putting everything that I know.
I have the same issue and cant figure it out. Ill keep you posted if I figure something out.

Have you guys checked your APNs?
Tmobile has it set as a web2go plan.
Go to the the "acess tmobile" app and go to your plan and click upgrade. Done. Plan stays the same and everything works again.

I can't even go to any websites on my phone without wifi. When I tried to open that app it wouldn't let me because it said that I can't use wi-fi with it.
And I did "check" my APN, I don't really know if there's anything wrong with it. I'm actually doing this for a friend and I have a Sprint SG3 that I rooted with absolutely no problems. This t-mobile phone though is really trying my patience.
try it again. turn wifi off and run the app. It should take you to your account.
Just go return it then get another phone.
The phone will literally not connect to ANYTHING data related unless on a wifi network. Unfortunately this t-mobile app will not work over wifi so I'm still stuck on what I can do.

I've made some progress. My coworker has a t-mobile gs3 so I switched out the sim cards and it works. So I guess it's something with the sim card...
Just got my phone back form being fixed (cracked screen, yayyy). Prior to fix it was rooted and everything was working great.
I get it back and had the following error: Unfortunately the process com.android.phone has stopped.
This came up twice each time the phone was rebooted/ turned on.
So, from various searches on this forum, on androidforums, and random google results this was my process:
The phone was rooted, so I un-rooted it with SuperSU and then did a factory wipe and went through the day one set-up process again.
deleted contacts and remove all accounts
clear phone cache
clear contacts cache
restored stock firmware (phone had to be rooted, so is now rooted again)
software has just been update OTA
reinstalled stock firmware using Odin3 (used Triangle away to clear count, device status was back to normal)
That fixed my error problem, but I still had no connection to my Bell LTE network. Wifi was fine, sms good, calling good, MMS not good.
I found the APN settings on this forum and created a new one using these:
APN Name: Bell LTE
APN: pda.bell.ca
Proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
Port: 80
Username: <Not set>
Password: <Not set>
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: http://mms.bell.ca/mms/wapenc
MMSC proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
MMS port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 610
APN type : <Not set>
Still didn't work, and when I restart the phone the new setting deletes itself.
So I installed two different modems as found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898
I tried I747MLALH1 first and current have I747MVLLE8 installed.
Phone is now rooted again (from installing new modems). Running 4.0.4. Device status is "Modified". Mobile Network State "Disconnected".
WTF is going on here? New SIM card maybe?
Any help would be great, but you'll have to dumb it down a little :cyclops:

My default APN settings are the same as those. Now, when you hit the *back* button once from that screen it takes you back to the list of APNs (though you probably just have one called "Browser"). Is the circle on the right highlighted with a green dot or is it unchecked/ empty?
Thanks for the help
It is checked. Filled with green dot. And below Browser it says pda.bell.ca

Good for you. I found it a bit confusing at first. I had to re-read it a few times before I attempted it. I had lost my IMEI as well as DATA ability on my Roger's S3 and this page helped me! As to how I lost it....??? Some byproduct of flashing.

Problem solved.
I skimmed through the info in the link @themadproducer provided but it didn't sound like that was a solution for me
Went into the Bell store, immediate the guy saw I didn't have an LTE SIM card so he said he doubts that is the problem but atleast when it is fixed I will have 4G internet. This was the original SIM I got back in June when I bought the phone, so I guess I was running 3G and didn't noticed since it was still blazingly faster than the 3G on my Blackberry.
We ended up calling a Bell diagnosis tech and he went backdoor on my phone, when I got it reactivated after being fixed the lady at the Bell store forgot to change/ add some things.
Good as gold now! My wonderful 6GB LTE plan is finally working and I'm not wasting money on nothing!
Thanks everyone for the help and input, much appreciated.
Hi everyone,
I'm brand new to this forum; so, hello, my name's Kyle! Anyway, my friend just signed up for straight talk and cancelled her ATT plan. She got a SIM card from Straight Talk and put it in her unlocked ATT Samsung Captivate Glide (she bought it unlocked and it was unlocked before she put her ATT SIM card in). When she put the Straight Talk SIM in and went to set up the APN, there was nothing at all listed. I tried helping her, and tried many different configurations, waited 5-10 seconds before hitting the back button, tried using the save button, and still no APN (list said empty). When I rebooted her phone, it came up with the message that the network was locked (can't remember exactly what it said, but it's where you need to put in the 8 digit code, and it says 'dismiss' below it.) I dialed *#7465625# and it says network lock [yes].. My question is, what do I do? She bought it brand new, unlocked, so does it need to be rooted and unlocked? I read something about flashing the ROM or something? I don't know a whole lot about phones and rooting, ROM, and whatever else, but I learn quickly. I don't even really know the questions to ask right now. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
P.S. I believe she's running Android 2.2 right now
The phone is still SIM locked. If she is in good standing with AT&T (no money owed, no contract, or if there was a contract, she paid the terminiation fee if it was ended early), she should be able to call AT&T and ask nicely for the unlock code. She should just stress that she is the owner of the phone.

Thank you so much for your response. She did exactly that today, and had no issues with ATT on the phone. The unlock code worked, and the phone is up and running. The only problem now is that she can call and text, but the data isn't working; I'm assuming it's because of the APN. I've found some APNs to try online, but every time I go to save them it takes me back to the menu with the two existing APNs and doesn't save the one I entered. I read that I should wait 5-10 seconds and hit the back button, but that hasn't worked either Also, one more question (sorry), if she upgrades from 2.2 to gingerbread will it create any problems? Thank you again, and in advance!

My bad, haven't been on XDA in a while and just noticed this.
I personally don't have a Captivate, just cruising trying to learn something about some qwerty Andorid phones. 2.3 definitely won't cause any issues, I would actually suggest updating to it since it might solve some bugs like the one you are experiencing with creating a new APN. Here is my APN that works fine, incl data and mms FWIW:
Name: StraightTalk ATT
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: blank
Port: blank
Username: blank
Password: blank

MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com

She should update to 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It's a marked improvement over Android 2, and the Captivate runs is swimmingly.
My wife has Straight Talk on her Captivate, and this is what settings work there:
Name: Whatever
APN: att.mvno
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default,supl,mms,hipri
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
Everything else is set to "Not Set".
Note that if you have a "Straight Talk" SIM for the AT&T network, then there's no need to have the phone SIM unlocked. It sounds like you have a "Straight Talk" SIM for the T-Mobile network though, which requires a SIM unlock, and will unfortunately only yield EDGE speeds for data (in most of T-Mobile's network).
Hi All,
I recently got a Galaxy S III (ATT) from a Co-Worker.
I have got it unlocked and switched over and noticed that I was having issues not getting data. I was able to by searching to set the APN however I am unable to send MMS. I am getting 4G LTE so I got something at least Correct lol.
Any help would be grand.
I had the same issue. I contacted metro, they gave me this:
T-Mobile US LTE
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
Delete password if any
Delete server if any
MMSC: http.//mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Hope this helps, it worked well for me. But you should completely root your phone as you will not receive Android updates any longer. I was able to completely root my phone. But I'm still learning (thanks to xda) how to find and correctly install the best rom for me.
