I have tried everywhere to find something that will allow me to have sound for my custom boot animation but to no avail. I found some things like running bootsnd.sh but that didn't work. Anyone instruct me on this?

Have you tried just making your audio into .ogg file type and pushing into place?
Steps:
Make or get the sound you want to use.
Get Audacity (free program) on your computer.
Use Audacity to export your desired audio into "ogg" format.
Name the file PowerOn.ogg.
In your phone, go to system/media/audio/ui/ folder... if PowerOn.ogg is there, rename it in case you want it back. Then push your newly created PowerOn.ogg file into that location, make sure the file permissions are the same as the others in that folder, and reboot.
Does this work?
Edit:

Hmm. Did you name the file PowerOn.ogg? I believe it's case sensitive, so if poweron.ogg was what you tried, retry with PowerOn.ogg... Last idea: I don't have a ROM to look at, but you can search or someone can reply to confirm that's the right destination folder for PowerOn.ogg in AOSP JB, or just try a few others - system/etc/ or up in system/media/ where bootanimation, zip should be. That's all I've got. Good luck, bud.
Just tried that. No power on there but even when placed it still doesn't work. I changed permissions as advised, still no $. I'm running slim bean btw

In the good old day when we had so many gingerbread options, if your rom allowed it you could change boot animation simply put zip into system/media now that we are moving on to ICS that no longer works, I did some searching that a second file needs to be made or placed for it to work, I tried toolbox but most of those although they do work are droid themes or lame. So the question is was anyone able to change the boot animation with a ICS rom, without using toolbox, if so please post how you were able to do it. I love the android pissing on apple boot. Does any one have that anmation by chance most links I found were to megaupload which has been shut down.
Once you find the one you want just place it into system\media make sure its named bootanimation.zip
It works with dark side evolution ics. I know because I made a animation from scratch and I run it in my phone.

The problem with the bootanimation.zip file you were trying to use was that when I unzipped and took a look into the desc.txt file, the second line where it states what folder to run first was not named the same as the folder that contained the images. So when you were telling your phone to look in a certain folder it was never found. In case you run into other problems follow these basic steps.
You need to unzip it and make sure that it is filed in the correct order. When a bootanimation.zip is made it consist of a desc.txt and at least one folder with many or few .png images. The folder that contains the .png images must be named the same in the txt file. In order of course of how you want to see it run. All this is stated in the desc.txt.
And to put it on your phone just copy paste into system/media make sure that you can RW in that directory. Then reboot and your good.
Or an easier way just do adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media from platform tools in your SDK.
XDA upload wasn't working so here ya go!
Ok first off big thanks to cesar, I didnt get his post at first and didnt feel like bothering him any more as he has been much to helpful so in lamemans terms, you need it to be in a zip format when you put it into system/media.....within that zip should be a folder containing you pics and a text file (what ever the folder is called should also be referenced in the text file) I was a little lost when I saw boot and tried several different ways till I got it, and now I understand, also I think within the text file you can set the size of video on the first line. Again big thanks to Cesar.

Is there any way to add your own boot sound to any ROM/boot ani? Conventional wisdom would seem to say whatever .wav file I put in the correct location. (/system/etc?) With the correct permissions (rw-r--r--?). Would work. But it doesn't. I have CM9 (the 6/13 one that was posted on the blog. "NOT alpha 6" lol). Anyone know about this?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Did you rename it to "PowerOn.wav"? I believe it has to be exactly like that. The bootanimation should be just be called "bootanimation.zip" and should be placed under "system/media". I successfully changed the boot animation and sound using AOKP so these settings might not work on CM9 but you should give them a try.
I did rename it exactly that. However it wasn't originally a .wav it was an mp3. Maybe it needs to be converted first? Also does it just go in that etc folder? The sound? I am not changing the boot ani. Just trying to add sound
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
It's different from one ROM to another and I'm not on CM9 to confirm the folder, but you would need to use a file in the same format and with the same name for it to work. So if the file you're wanting to use is in WAV format but the current system one is on MP3 you will need to convert it before the system will acknowledge it.

You cannot change the extension of the file and expect it to be a new type of file. You must convert the mp3 to a wave file by using some sort of program on the internet. Once that is done, just drop the newly converted file into "system/etc" and renamed to "PowerOn.wav" and should work. Worth a try

I was just wondering if changing the boot-up screen is the same(or similar) for the SG3 as this guide that I dug up(its from a completely different phone but I get the general idea). and if not, where do the custom animations and sound files go?
To install, follow these steps:
remove bootanimation.zip and SPC_animation_final from /system/customize/resource
remove bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 from /system/media
adb push your downloaded bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 to /system/media

Would I have to delete any files? there is no "android_audio.mp3" i am assuming the boot anim is "bootsamsumg.qmg" or "bootsamsungloop.qmg" with the sound file being in system/media/audio/ui "poweroff.wav" and "poweronn.ogg"
can anyone confirm?
I just recently tried to just place the "bootanimation.zip" through a root explorer into the corresponding directory. I restarted but it doesn't seem to be using the bootanimation zip which leads me believe that it is more complicated than previously stated.
If you copy them to /data/local they survive between roms as long as you don't wipe data.

You have to be using a ROM/kernal that supports bootanimation.zip. Most stock ones are still using the .qmg files, and if you are making your own bootanimation.zip make sure when you zip it you are not compressing it. It needs to be "store only" or it won't work.

Good info here. Thanks
I am trying to change the bootanimation as well, and so far nothing I've tried works. I have a boot animation that worked with my sensation and is originally from the nexus, I placed it in both the data/local and the system/media folders and both are set to rw/r/r.
I noticed my system/media file also has 2 samsung .qmg(?) files in it, should these be deleted or renamed?
I'm currently using xquisitV70 with whatever kernel it includes, do I need to flash a custom kernel for this to work?
If so, any favorites for the s3?
Your Kernal has to support it.
I use ROM Toolbox to do it. It works perfectly and it's very easy to use.

Has zip to enable the use of bootanimation.zip file, i have only tested it on frosty v5...hope it works for you.
Thanks, the kernel was my issue apparently. I installed trinity kernel and now my boot animation is working perfectly.
Hey guys, I was just wondering if there was a way to change the S-pen pull out noise to a custom tone? I have the Tmo version and there is only 3 that I can choose from. Thanks in advance.
You should be able to replace the stock sounds with new files of the same names. Unsure of their exact location as I've not looked into it, but it'd stand to reason that they'd be in /system/media/ui somewhere.
Did occur to me that it'd be fun to replace them with, say, lightsaber noises. Or Steve Jobs saying "Who wants a stylus?"

I see the file under the UI folder but it seems I need to assume root, it only has read permissions. I will give it a go when theres a root for tmobile. Thanks for the reply and leading me in the right direction though. Btw you read my mind, I wanted to replace it with a lightsaber lol

Found some lightsaber power-up & power-down sounds if anyone is after them, sourced them from: http://soundfxcenter.com/sound-effects/star-wars/20 and converted to .ogg and reduced the volume so they aren't too loud.
- Go to: /system/media/audio/ui in Root Explorer (or similar app)
- [Optional] Rename Pen_att_noti1.ogg & Pen_det_noti1.ogg to Pen_att_noti1.bak & Pen_det_noti1.bak
- Extract S-Pen_Lightsaber_Sounds.zip [attached below] and copy both files to /system/media/audio/ui
- Go to System Settings -> S Pen -> Pen/attach/detach and set to Sound1
- Enjoy!
I have attached the original Pen_att_noti1.ogg & Pen_det_noti1.ogg in case you overwrote/deleted the originals instead of renaming.
This is awesome. Worked for me. Now Is there anything we can do tobincrease the volume of the spen lightsaber noise. Its very understated which is ok but I'd like it to be a little more noticeable.
I've looked into UI sound folder. there're many ui sounds and customisable.
including yours are great. many thanks. :good:

I'm afraid not. You need root access to the system files to change it.

Couple of questions for you...
1. Are you rooted?
2. Are you using Root Explorer or ES File Explorer?
If your using ES, you need to be sure it has root access and has the "system" folder "mounted" for writing (both in settings of ES). Also, it's not the files you downloaded that you rename, it's the original files in the /system/media/audio/ui folder you rename to .bak, then copy and paste the new ones in.
