is there any way to get sense apps like the Music, camera, and phone onto vanlla phones or on cyanogen
I was hoping there was a way to get the dialer from a sense rom onto any stock rom. I actually may try that out later this week and see if it works (doubtful).
It requires sense framework for the Widgets as I've asked this before, as far as camera mods and what not I've seen that on vanilla roms but I'm sure there are geniuses that dwell on XDA that could figure it out.

Eventually, there will be hacked up ROMs with bits and pieces from every corner of the earth - I wanted the same thing on my Nexus (stock with the HTC cam) and there were a few options (though all had bugs here and there). Given the G2 was *just* permrooted, it might be a few weeks/months before you see some really creative ROMs.
Other stuff, like the lockscreen, can be changed with apps like widgetlocker and such.
You should definitely try out the Desire Z rom, though. It's all kinds of awesome, with new features that weren't there in previous versions of Sense. Hell, the camera app alone is worth it - makes the stock Android camera app look like a joke.
Sense apps have never and will never work on a non-sense based rom as it has far too much reliance on lots of frameworks (its a messy area).
The closest you will get is a rom like SuperVillain (out later today) that is a Sense based rom but with Rosie (Launcher) and widgets removed so looks like vanilla but still has all the sense apps working.
Keep an eye on villainrom.co.uk or the dev section here on xda for the rom release of SuperVillainZ

Enomther's TheOfficial has the option of both the HTC Camera and the HTC Music app - plus you can install the HTC IME (onscreen keyboard) easily as an APK (there's even a kitchen that lets you customize the colors and such).
Your sig claims you've owned 4 android phones. So you're obviously not a super noob. So my question to you is -
Did searching just not occur to you, or did you honestly believe you were not the 7,548th person to ask this question?
I am not asking about sense widgets because im aware that i need to have the sense framework running but im just wondering about the 2 apps Camera and Music. i know that enmothers rom gives you the option to install the 2 if you want and am just wondering if its possible to do the same for cyanogen.
also i have used the Sense Roms for the G2 but i was never really a fan of non Vanilla android.

A couple of apps may have been REBUILT to work without sense, but its not an easy job and certainly isn't something a lot of people have done.
the HTC IME keyboard was pretty much an entire rewrite of the code based on what the htc one looked like, its not the apk from sense just moved over.
I can't comment on the camera or music, but I imagine these are the same.

There has been a sense app ported to stock. Enom ported the HTC camera to his stock ROM for the Nexus... I remember running it.. That was a great ROM
Sorry, I see this has already been covered... But I know the app wasn't rewritten, it was a straight port, with the stock framework rewritten, so it was a straight app port

My ideal ROM would be something close to stock gingerbread OTA for the Incredible (once it comes out), with the Sense 3.0 lockscreen.
I like the stability and speed of the stock ROMs, but the one feature I love about Sense 3.0 is the lockscreen. Rather than running a slower and battery hogging Kingdom Port, would it be possible to get a ROM that will have the new Incredible OTA gingerbread and add in that lockscreen?

That along with the gps/wifi/bluetooth toggles in the notification bar would be sweet.

Agreed! Keep it simple, but add in the necessary additions.
Hopefully the OTA will come out soon and a dev can make a ROM like this.
Well for this to happen there would have to be a lot of modding to the framework of the OTA since its a huge upgrade from sense 1.0 to sense 3.0 and even after the modding the porting of the apks themselves is the challenge. Kingdom roms aren't really battery hogs i can last a whole day running on my kingdom port

Hmm I see. I didn't realize so much needed to be changed just to add in the lockscreen.
Currently I'm running Synergy and liking it a lot. Hopefully by the time the first release comes out, plus whatever we can take from the official OTA, then it'll be perfect.
Now that the OTA is out and about, any chance we can get a ROM with the Sense 3.0 lockscreen?
Try using the stock OTA with agile lock from the market.

Unfortunately no, but what I do is use an app called SMS Pop-up so when I get a text the pop-up is there on the lockscreen (or anywhere else for that matter). Just be sure to turn off your stock messaging notifications and instead use the sms pop-up ones.

Is there any chance a ROM with vanilla ICS will be made. I dont think i like this Sense.. IMO, ics is better consumed in its pure glory.

It never works like this. You either have sense or you don't.
I'd say there is a very good chance we will get vanilla ICS roms - other Tegra3 devices are already getting them. Only difficulty will be the camera I imagine.

Hopefully the device is popular enough for a CM9 official release.
Hopefully soon..that way I can update all my black&cyan themed gapp's

There is "ics" roms based on Sense, that is all sense apps are replaced with ICS apps except where they are better (camera and album for instance) but everything else is ICS. And it works great, i have tested some of these on my evo (wich doesnt even have official ICS yet) so it is possible.
but those are sense based and the advantage is that all hardware works as well as stock but if you want pure AOSP you have to wait a month or two, or more, before a proper aosp kernel and compile from aosp is made.
Has htc released kernel-source for one x yet?

Yep, and the sense apps are all tied into the sense framework, which means you need a sense rom.
I don't think there is any question of whether or not this phone will be popular enough for CM9 to take it on board - this and the SGSIII are going to be the 2 biggest phones this year. It's just a matter of time before it happens.

In ICS you can dissable apps (essentialy uninstalling apps but they come back after a whipe) like for instance 3'rd party music-apps like soundhound etc.
But sense is there. rosie, clock app etc.
But most apps can also be added back from ICS from what i have seen, like clock, alarm, calendar, e-mail etc and thuss making a sense device "aosp" like without acctualy removing things you need from a sense based rom like binary drivers.

What? oO
Ain't Sense just being another laucher app? Everything else basically being reskins and shameless rips of "unsensed" apps (like Twitter for sense and all that ****) ?
You can install another launcher, and use Titanium to kill/freeze most Sense apps. I use a ICS launcher from a N1 ICS rom. And it works fine. Wish I could replace the status bar / notification drawer as well tho.

There is something called a framework. You can't use sense Widgets on another launcher because of it.

Again, I wasn't referring to Sense apps. This is my first HTC phone; most other manufacturers usually bundle stock apps, I know HTC is bundling some free versions like TuneIn, but don't know if they also bundle any paid ones worth having. Those are what I'm referring to, NOT Sense.

I'd also love a stock ics rom. Only thing that needs to be ported would be the camera app. Omg the app is just the best cam app. The stock camera app is useless in comparison.

Not to belabor the point already raised in this thread, but the Sense Camera cannot be ported over to any other ROM. As previously mentioned, the Sense Camera is one of the apps that are inextricably tied to the overall Sense framework. You need to have a Sense-based ROM for the Sense Camera to work.
Just to save any potential heartache for people hoping to port it over to an AOSP-based ROM. Too many tears have been shed already-- many of them mine :]
I hope this happens...The day this ROM comes out for HTC ONE X...is the day i buy it!
OR SGS 3..whichever is quicker!
The ARHD Rom has a lite version stripped from sense.. try that in the development section
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Just to clarify here, there's "senseless" and then there's "AOSP".
Senseless is based on HTC stock rom but with many HTC apps removed and replaced with ICS stock. Many of the apps are better however you still have the same underlying framework, it's still a htc sense rom at the core.
AOSP is built from google source, there's not one line of sense in it. It's leaner, meaner, faster, better on battery, but it'll take alot longer to get it running properly. It WILL NOT support most HTC apps, particuarly the camera as these all tie into the HTC core (which doesn't exist in AOSP).
You cannot remove sense from a HTC rom, you can just remove the apps. It's like chopping the top off a weed but leaving the roots. You can't see it, but you still have weeds
M.
I have no idea what you are all talking about, but I know I need Vanilla!! Really hate SENSE...
If I had AOSP would it mean that my camera would not work at all? Or would it just mean that some of the SENSE functions would not be possible to use?

If you had a proper AOSP rom (like CM9, AOKP etc) then the camera would work to take photos and videos, but none of the dual record/high speed type stuff is likely to work. There may even be problems in early builds just trying to get it working, a dedicated imaging chip is quite unusual and depends on what architectural changes there are.
And, if you don't know what I'm talking about with senseless vs aosp, how can you even know that you *need* vanilla ics??

We got touchwiz so why the hell not? I'd suggest basing the launcher off the HTC Flyers gingerbread launcher, perfect for the nexuses phablet style
Sent from my HTC Vivid using Tapatalk 2
yes but TW isn't a rom porting..and for sense we have to port all the rom because only the UI it could lackthe presence of proprietary frameworks i think..also in the gnex section, the sense porting is very very slow..and after all, based on a port of a port of a port originally by trip'n'raver...are we ready for another port of a port for this device??
I don't know much about programming so I can't be much help but does it have to be a perfect port? I know sense is intrusive, as the sense stripped roms for the Vivid all have issues and ui elements they can't overcome. But I think from my standpoint making a sense clone would be the best route. Basically building a nexus 7 sense launcher that supports sense widgets and you're half way there. For the rest? A custom cm themed lockscreen and a cm10 sense 4 theme and boom head shot!
Sent from my HTC Vivid using Tapatalk 2
you are right, but as far as i know it's not possible have the launcher of sense working with widgets e dependecies without porting entire fw..being the sense UI closed-source,to have it working a dev should re-write its code from zero, because he can't code without sources, and the rewriting of parts of UI it's a very hard work (and not speak of the time it can requires...)
just my 2 cents, wait for a more deeper reply from a more knowledged person..
The ironic thing is I'm mixed on the usefulness of sense anyway, but intrigued by the porting process. I do know about the hurdles I mean on my phone for instance, no developer has been able to support the greatly improved sense 4 to it without breaking in mic call volume due to framework differences and embedded code in the at&t rom. And no one knows how to get the widgets to work either.
I've been wanting to start learning how to develop, this might be a good place to start
Sent from my HTC Vivid using Tapatalk 2
yeah,a good place for start, but veeeery hard..owned a sense device only once,a desire hd,after that i haven't owned\tried any others..i like sense, but i prefer to not have a proprietary UI,it's too much ram-eating and in any way should perform less than how it could be in an aosp rom..good luck!
CodeNameSammy new ROM. Check it out
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
TouchWiz is far less integrated in the framework and other apps than sense.
A lot of sense relies on other parts of sense, you can't just hack in the launcher into a AOSP rom.
My experience with sense is that you either have it or you don't (imo senseless roms are still sense just themed)
Look at the sense roms on Samsung devices like the Nexus S and Galaxy S phones and you'll see they are full ports, mostly functional. The CodenameSammy ROM is hardly TouchWiz at all, mostly themed, sounds and the launcher + a few apps
Not bashing the codenamesammy rom, just saying that porting sense will require a lot more work
But sense ROMs generally work better on sense devices (as in sense ports to older devices) although I would like to see it here
Hopefully HTC decide to bring out a tablet with the same resolution, sense and a tegra 3 That would make life easier
I don't mean to offend anyone, just giving my opinion on this Peace guys :highfive:
Sense is a a mess i am aware of the that. It's like recently I wanted to change launchers on my vivid. Well the stock sense launcher still runs in the background to control your lockscreen shortcuts, so your using more ram and battery to use a third party launcher. So I freeze the sense launcher, and guess what? Lockscreen shortcuts don't work. So I the aosp lockscreen is still on the rom, I read up and disable the sense lockscreen, everything seems to be working fine, then someone calls... And my screen stays locked and doesn't change. Why? Because the sense lockscreen stays locked when someone calls, but the sense lockscreen displays info from the dialer. So yeah pretty much you have sense or you don't.
I wonder how many components from the flyers honeycomb rom would work in jelly bean? It's pretty much straight tablet mode plus sense nothing extra

Hi everyone,
I really like Aopk and I have used it on my old S2. I was really exited when it came out for the S4 and I flashed it right away but I was really disappointed when I saw that the S4 features were not there. Is there a rom that is very similar to Aopk and has all the S4 features or at least has a very similar lockscreen (very important to me)? I looked at a lot of ROMs that have the S4 features but they look almost the same way as the S4 original look (stock). I wan't it to be stable because I use it for work and for school and I can't have it doing weird things on me. If there isn't a ROM like that is there any way I can take the Aopk ROM and take another ROM that has all the S4 features and some how combine them?(my only complaint to Aopk is that it doesn't have the S4 features)
Oh and by the way, I have the T-Mobile S4
Thank You
If by 'S4 features' you mean the samsung apps and TouchWiz UI then no. Those are locked into the stock rom. There are roms that remove the carrier bloat of the original rom while leaving TouchWiz and samsung apps intact, which it sounds like you have found. But I dont think its possible to add the samsung apps to something like AOKP. AOKP and AOSP are by definition open source so using the closed source Samsung software wouldnt make sense. Thats my understanding, I may be misinformed.

Yea it's not really possible. The closest thing you would get is by taking one of the Google Edition ROMs and hacking in the features yourself since they do run on the TouchWiz Framework and Kernel, it's just stripped down to Vanilla Android.

Can you guys explain what you said in the previous posts a little more, because I have simple knowledge about ROMs but I am not all that advanced. Stock ROM runs on stock everything, as well as Touchwiz Launcher.
AOKP,CM10, and AOSP Roms Run on Trebuchet, Nova or Apex Launcher.
Stock ROM has al lthese features built in, as well as proprietary files that are made just for stock Touchwiz Period. The have been signed and designed to work with TouchWiz Roms only..
Now if you want Aokp type Lockscreen, there are plenty of Mods and Themes that Can help You with that, PLENTY, Look in the THEMES & APPS SECTION of t he International Galaxy S4 section or the T-Mobile Section. Spend a little more time on XDA as well and you'll find the answer to your question in little or no time at all.
But In simple form, NO , Those features you listed only work on touchwiz Roms, and just a small thing as changing the launcher can disable som of them permanently.

The closest you're going to get is to run Apex or Nova launcher and a AOSP based lock screen on the stock ROM. Not a bad solution and it will retain all of the S4 TW features.

I've been on CM for the last few years, but I've been running Wicked V4 on this new S4 and LOVE it. Since my OG droid in '09, this is one of my favorite ROMs. Performance-wise it's really really good. Best battery life I've every had on a phone (don't know how much of that is S4 and how much of that is ROM/kernel)
It's AOSP-ish in that it's fully debloated (no samsung or T-mo apps), and it's not themed. That being said, it runs on the TouchWiz framework, so you get all the S4's new hardware features.
It's also a little CM-ish in that there's some minor configurability with respect to the notification bar (clock colors, position, battery icons, etc)
Give it a try!!

I really like Apex and I really like Holo Locker Plus so thank you for the suggestions but when I lock my screen and then press the power button 99% of the time Holo Locker Plus lockscreen does not appear it just goes to my home screen. How can I fix this? And how can I put a pattern lock on it?
Thanks

Not sure about the power button issue. As far as the pattern lock, it should display after the holo screen. Stock would work this way too.
If you like asop looks and theme try this this theme on touchwiz rom

Thank You for all the suggestions, I have a quick question though. Is the OMega ROM good and stable and will it work on my T-Mobile S4?
Yes, it will. Just make sure you flash a T Mobile based kernel afterwards. Otherwise you'll boot loop.

can you give me a link to the kernel because I don't have any experience with kernels and I don't want to flash the wrong one?

Here's 3 of the most flashed kernels for our beloved phones. Use them all, and keep the one you like the most.
