Well the s2 is pretty old and the s3 is so much better. Plus the s2 doesn't have 4g LTE which has excellent speed, just like WiFi at home, except anywhere. I actually switched from Virgin Mobile (One V, I'm sure you've seen RhythmicRom ) over to Boost Mobile and bought the HTC One SV because I was just in love with the design for some reason. Plus it was $100 cheaper if you're not on the $35 Virgin plan Boost may be good looking into because they have more higher quality smart phones and true unlimited for $50. Plus your VM account can be easily transferred

San Diego users?

I'm currently on at&t using the Galaxy S. I'm really thinking about switching to Sprint and grabbing the EVO.
I was hoping there are some San Diego users out there than can tell me how Sprint's coverage is in SD. Please throw in any comments about the phone as well.
Sprint would be quite a bit cheaper for my wife and I but I'm also thinking about switching because at&t's Android selection is terrible. The Galaxy S is super buggy and I'm sick of a non-function GPS.
Thanks!!

I think you have plenty to select from. Have you tried iPhone, or windows phone 7.

Thanks for the reply, but I want to stick to Android. The Aria is too small for me. The Aria and the Captivate are pretty much the only high-end Android options for at&t.
I don't live in san diego but worked out there for 2 months and had no problems from otay mesa, coronado, national city to san diego. The evo wasnt out yet when I was there so I don't know about 4g
Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure Sprint hasn't launched 4G in San Diego... yet. It's a bummer that they make you pay for 4G even if you don't have it in your area.

I have 4 g in my area and pay $10 but don't use 4g. $10 is really not bad when you consider the whole picture in price comparison. My buddy has went over 2gb on att

I think you should wait for the shift to come out. Gives you more options. Even sprint has a limited selection. I left T-Mobile. Just for the EVO.

So you can toggle 4G on the EVO? Why not use it?
And yes, even WITH the $10/mo for 4G, my bill would be substantially cheaper than what at&t's charging me.

Sprint.

Hi guys I'm coming from at&t I had a Samsung captivate then a attix. My sprint service isn't great but my fiance wanted us to get sprint so I got the et4g. I just wanted to know the big difference in cdma development vs GSM. I had att since 2003 so bear with me.

I'm in the same boat as you. Switching from att to sprint. In terms of development for the radios i can't say much because idk. but since gsm is more widely supported and the other GS2 phones run on gsm it will be easier to get it on those as well as a larger pool of devs.
Yea I figured that much the signal is pretty bad at my house but my gf has great 4G at hers. On att I would get 5mb down n like 4up. I'm hoping that sprints get better because its so advertised.

[Q] Will data work on $50 gophone plan?

Just picked up this phone and got it unlocked. I tried searching but couldn't find much on the topic. Can anyone confirm if you can get data on the $50 gophone plan or does AT&T have these phones flagged?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
I'm confused. Unless I am mistaken, AT&T doesn't offer the GNex at all. Unless what you are saying is you are trying to use a GNex on AT&T...in which case you are in the wrong forum entirely. Actually, either way you are in the wrong forum. Maybe because of the mobile app.
No I'm on my gnex on Verizon but I bought a t mobile sII and am asking about that.

You'd be better off getting a simple mobile sim changing the apn and you can get the 4g plan and get 4g speeds.

all you gotta do is flash a skyrocket i727 radio .. redpocket would make a better choice than gophone though , as I don't think it works with smartphones at all
Thanks for the replies I'll try those radios. Funny thing is data words perfect in my unlocked Droid pro but pop it in the sII with the same apn and nothing will load.

iIm using the plan now and the only way to use data is to purchase their data which is like $25 for 1GB along with the $50 a month for unlimited text and minutes. also with my experience i cant download anything from the play store thats over 7MB.
for me changing radios makes no difference
seems like ATT flagged a lot of android phones on howardforums they have a list of phones that do work on it. not much mention on the t989 from what i had found.
Questions go in the Q&A section

Seems like you're right as I picked up the plan and the data works on my unlocked Droid Pro but not the SII. Thanks for your response and I hope this post is useful to people in the future!
It was working before, I don't know about now though

I'm currently with Verizon I have the galaxy nexus but wish I stayed with t mobile or went with att,I had a g1 on release day ordered my nexus 1 when it was available for pre orders. purchased the nexus s, but returned it ASAP because of bugs and reboots. I'm not knocking Verizon, because their network is phenomenal compared to tmobile, but I had so much freedom with tmobile hardware wise the galaxy nexus old but superior to other phones because of its software in only saying that I will no longer purchased anything but a nexus.

Yeah, I was coming in to support this remark. I love my G-Nexus. But I had a little touchy touchy thing going on with a Samsung Galaxy SIII the other day at a retail store. Don't tell my phone.........sssssssssh

I think the OP's point was GSM Nexus > CDMA Nexus, but he's stuck on a CDMA network. Thus, he was expecting to get flamed

my GF has a LTE Nexus, and i have a GSM model. my phone is far more stable with regards to radio stability. her phone is a mess when it comes to LTE/CDMA handoffs.
i should probably check for a radio update for her phone...

^Mine doesn't! It's been solid all around since day 1. :good:
At this point in time the gsm Nexus is one of the best deals around. I've been kicking myself for a while now for going with verizon and not prepaid. $350 for the phone and $50 or less a month for service is crazy cheap compared to Verizon or any other postpaid.
The way google did everything, I suspect they planned on this phone hitting its stride 6-8 months after it's release. When the unsubsidized price dropped to reasonable levels, BAM they put it up for sale themselves and put Jellybean on it making the Nexus a superphone that is semi affordable.
I don't get plagued by all these radio issues people talk about.
Having a GSM Nexus isn't possible for me so I'm happy with my CDMA Nexus and I don't think any less or more of the GSM variant.
If only At&t would offer unlimited data I would never have this CDMA crap again.

I have a VZW Galaxy Nexus and I agree with you guys even though I have no rational proof to support my claim.
Please indulge my anecdotal justification instead:
It feels like the GSM versions are better supported, maybe not in the dev community (it still seems like all of the development who provide updates also have GSM versions and I'm very curious to know if any of them use the VZW version as their main phone.) That may or may not be the case but CDMA support from manufacturers seems to be an afterthought at times. VZW doesn't even get some of the nicer phones sometimes. They really came through with getting us the original Droid though. That was a great phone. I haven't had a phone yet that I've liked as much as I liked the Droid when it was new.
I still have to point out that where I live my VZW Nexus still gets me more reliable service (even with its assinine bounces between 3g/LTE in my office) than anyone using a phone on any other carrier. Having a great flashy phone with the latest updates does little good if you can't get online. Sure my coworker gets 40MB/s up and down when he's at the north side of our building but he has to tether to me if he wants to get online where we spend most of the day.
If I spent a lot of time where I could get reliable GSM connections at the price I'm paying VZW with my discount, I'd switch in a heartbeat.

Continue..... Please. I am considering dropping Sprint in a month or tow and am looking for the best GSM plan. T-Mobile has it for $30 a month, 100 minutes, unlimited text, unlimited data but 5GB @ 4g speed.

Well you do indeed need a donor phone. When it tells you to input the meid it means the donor phone meid into the gn2. If you need help I would suggest asking there. Couldnt hurt.

I too love my Note 2. I used my Boost Mobile S3 (working 4g) as a donor phone for my note 2. Everything works but the 4g! If you can tell me how to get the 4g working I would be ecstatic... Until then, I found a company (Voyager http://www.voyagermobile.com) that will allow me to take my Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to their network (uses Sprint Network) for $43.00 a month UNLIMITED everything...($45 after taxes) hard to beat that price. And you don't have t mess with your phone!

o wow nice ima check that link out yea good thing i made this sucks no 4g with boost :/
I've been using my s2 flashed to Boost for a while now. I love the s2 but was ready for 4g. I bought a Boost mobile s2 with a broken screen from Ebay. fixed the screen and activated the phone. Problem is that only the 4g works. No voice, text or 3g. I get a connection error when trying to update profile or prl. Boost tried but could not help me. The 4g works great though but without voice, it does me no good. Any ideas? Is it possible to flash voice only to the phone and keep the 4g?
