[Q] Best Rom for Blazing Performance - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Although I love all the customizations of PA/AOKP/CM Roms I have been finding myself wanting better performance. Most roms I am trying out just seem a tad bit short of smooth. I know I just have a dual core snapdragon, but I would like a rom that has no UI lag and works smoothly. Please no kernel change recommendations. I would like a rom that can run smoothly without jacking up frequencies

[Q] What's the best rom for performance on games?

I gave my Evo 4G to a friend and i've flashed a couple different sense roms for him to try out. Would going to a rom like a CM7(.1) give him a noticeable performance increase for games like GTA III or other 3D rendered games, and possibly better HDMI Mirroring performance?
I thought GTAIII would run like a champ on the EVO4G, but its not. Phones currently running the Swagged out Stock. But it is pretty choppy, so is counter strike.
Normally I would just flash the roms myself and see, but since it's not my phone I dont have that type of access to it.
Any input is appreciated.
Salvage mod (rom) g0dm0de kernel and chainfire3d is the best combo for graphics intensive games if its not going to be used as a phone stripping the messaging app and other items such as calculator and stuff like that will increase the available ram to improve performance
Edit: overclocking to 1.19ghz will help as well, the problem with games like gta3 is the available ram when the phone is booted is only around 200 MB or so on an AOSP ROM and less than 200 MB on a sense rom and that's really not enough ram to render the graphics with the gpu in the evo
Great suggestions. Bummer to hear that GTA III probably doesn't have a good chance of running smooth on the Evo. Definitely was going to over clock. I know that helped me on the PSX emulator.
Im going to look into salvage mod. Sense roms seem to be less reliable. and I believe HDMI mirroring would work smoother too.
Thanks for the feedback, really great to hear someone speaking from experience.
Salvage mod is one of the lightest ROMs around its not real fancy but removing alot of nonessential apps from it will free up more ram making the game smoother chainfire3d will accelerate the graphics as well helping to improve performance

normal performance

I recently went back to sense after having been on Absolution for a while now. Absolution was great and all games including temple run played flawlessly. Now with the new ROM ( latest Coredroid V9.4) im starting to notice lag even after OC to 1.3 GHz. Benchmark tests are horrible compared to Absolution. Highest Nenamark 2 is 10 compared to 15 regularly on absolution. Highest quadrant is 19000 something compared to regular 2300 on absolution. Is this the regular sense ROMs performance or can I get a bit more by tweaking more or changing ROMs/ Kernels?
ive tried many kernels btw ... ended up with LorDmod NCT- 4.0 BFS
Try changing the CPU governor to interactive.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA
ive tried lagfree, smartass, on demand, and interactive ... they all seem to give almost the same result :S So I take it Temple Run should run smoothly even on sense?
I guess it should... Change the ROM...
I have notice that when i have gone back to a sence rom it always seems slower!
Change your rom to CyanogenMod 7.1. That is the smoothest rom while I'm playing
imho, the only sense upperhand vs other launchers and the scrolling/flipping and animation speed. Pretty much undeniable that Sense scrolls really fast and animates/trans really fast. However, if you would take a look at the amount of memory SENSE is using... I can't say for sure, but i believe sense bogs down the general performance of the driod by favouring its Homescreen performance. Correct me if im wrong.

agreed. .. performance wise its the worst but esthetically its the nicest launcher out there. .. would be great if you can keep those elements in a rom and get rod of all other bloatware that hogs memory or slows the system down. .. would make for the best rom ever
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
actually, there are many chiefs successfully "cleaned" up sense and did a pretty good job. Then again, i've always prefer lighter roms... well, each to his own.

JB Roms: are they true stable DD's you would install on you parents phone?

Hello,
G2 owner here, I am considering flashing a new rom onto my not so tech savy friends Desire HD. I'm wondering how good the experience of the JB roms is? On the G2 the roms are unusable but it's certainly not a good experience, lots of random slow downs and lag, plus the camera quality sucks. I'm wondering if that is much the same on the DHD.
Would you flash a JB rom onto your Mum's phone, or would you stick with CM7? Consistent random slow downs / lag plus sub par camera quality isn't acceptable!
Also, if someone has a nice clear guide handy for rooting and installing recovery from 2.3 a link would be appreciated
Thanks!
I think you should be here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=750.
Good luck!

Sorry my bad! I am a G2 owner, but I am looking at flashing a rom onto my friend DHD. -- updated the OP
whilst the jb roms are very stable, i wouldnt recomend them for a complete technaphoab. better safe than sorry.
on the other hand, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968854 this is very good, but synergye(lead dev) is focusing more time on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003273 this.
the sense interface is very basic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1839004
and if you want the mind numbing simplicity of ios, try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991558 (i havent tried this one yet though)
as always, read the threads first
Hard to tell, depends what they use... JB ROMs (and ICS) are really stable. No reboots or crashes. Really. There are small minor bugs, but I suppose most of the people wouldn't notice them, since not all people use all functionality. I.e. I wouldn never notice Bluetooth bug since I never use it, etc.
Now, IMHO, the best combination is JT plus KangBang kernel 1.9 stable. It works great, really smooth and fast. I have really a lot of apps and everything works just fine. With KB kernel, at least on my device, I can overclock to more than 1.2Ghz, i.e. 1.5, and it really works well. 4.1.2 is the best Android for me, fastest. I also have Nexus 7 and now that I have 4.2.1 I see how slower it is compared to 4.1.2. But Nexus is so fast that it doesn't matter. On DHD it might, because it is only single core. I tried CFX also and I had lockups and slowdowns. It is also stable, but would just stop responding for me from time to time.
But all in all I would make a backup of your current ROM (stock) and go for JB/KB combo. The only downside for me is battery life, which is worse than stock, but that doesn't happen on all sets (go figure).

[Q] Problems with laggy games on HOX

hi..
I make this thread because I get sick of my HOX..
As you know, it's Tegra 3 GPU in this phone and I expected much more.
First, many games are laggy, who even built for this phone / Tegra 3
Mine is rooted and uses the IceColdJelly with NCX kernel.
A game that I like very much is SG: Dead Zone that is build for Tegra GPU. But why the hell does it lagg? It should be the other way around.
Is anyone having problems with this game?
It does not matter what I use for graphics settings, Low,medium, high or ultra high
The game works much better on my Galaxy Nexus, but would far rather use my HOX!
Is there anyone who can give me a tip on what kernel / rom / sense rom that is good for gaming?
It would be wonderful and grateful
Hi.. im looking at a kernel from NCX what called NCX gaming kernel at NCX
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33805830&postcount=10399
or EternityProject Kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33672330&postcount=10158
Does this need a sense rom? or does it work with CM10 / AOKP rom? If it need a sense rom ? Which rom? i dont understand how to install it ? is there any one who has done this before and maybe give me a little guide how to install ?
It would be sweet. Thx, maybe this is a solution for laggy games?
Turning back from JB to ICS was the best thing i ever done.. running viper with NCX gaming kernel and Gaming booster and it really runs great. But dont know anything battery life yett..
Case close.

Best rom for gaming & speed? and a little question about F2FS

Hey guys!
I was wondering what the best ROM is in terms of gaming performance and overal speed.
I tried resurrection remix, FreedomOS.
Currently I am thinking of testing paranoid android, something about being coded on Snapdragon language coding etc making it faster. (dunno if it's true)
And how much faster is F2FS when it comes to daily use and gaming?
I sincerely hope someone can anwser these questions for me.
I finally got rid of my HTC m7 which i used for 3-4 years & am totally in love with my 3T midnight black edition.
Cheers!

A rom is not really going to make a difference in games. A kernel can, i would stick with stock and maybe try out Xceed since it is an overclocked kernel and gives more peformance.. I wouldn't use F2fs the difference in speed is minimal and the stability is alot more off, not worth the risk I would say.

Paranoid android is good for stability and speed but the current build has an annoying phone idle battery drain bug , the Devs have said an update is coming soon but I'd recommend xXx no limits ROM along with xceed or elementalx kernel...
Only two roms gave me good gaming experiences. Stock rom with EX kernel overclocked and using Mostafa waels Burnout AKT profile.
and other one is Phoenix AOSP rom with renders kernel.
