Okay, so this isn't one of those "I bricked my phone" situations. I have had the same ROM over a few months without problems.
It started when I dropped my phone while traveling by train.
At first it were the volume keys, WiFI and Bluetooth (those exact 3) that malfunctioned (didn't turn on or react at all).
I thought, this is a software problem so I ran a RUU for my phone. Installed fine, booted up but still the same problem.
Then I thought, perhaps something's wrong with the connectors so I removed the screws to check them all.
All were right, so I screwed it back together but this time the power button did do simply nothing at all.
So, the problem is plain and simple: Phone doesn't turn on.
When I put it in my charger, the LED begins to burn like it should.
While charging and I hole the on/off button for about 3 seconds I hear the "TUDUM" sound in Windows indicating a device has been connected.
The only device found in device manager is a new E: drive which would be my SD card when mounted (although it always shows up under device manager even when not mounted).
What could be the cause of the problem? I'm sure it's just a connector somewhere and am willing to fully disassemble my phone if needed. I got all screwdrivers and backup screws + wiring so I'm not afraid to lose anything.
Please help
Badass
I'm such a badass lol, I fixed it!
Here's how:
I removed the full back part of the device (remove the plastic cover, unscrew the screws, disconnect the white and black wire (wifi and bluetooth if not mistaken) and all the nasty tape and I removed the black tape from the battery cover (the part the battery is laying on).
I removed all dust and made sure nothing shorted. I glued the black tape at the battery side back on it, threw away the tape from the bottom and just screw it back together.
Works again! Wifi works, bluetooth works, volume buttons work. EVERYTHING WORKS

So my phone fell out of my car in my driveway and apparently I ran it over when I backed out, now it won't power on and the screen is broken.
I've replaced the device, but I'd really really like to get the data off my old phone. The battery is still good, as I've put it in my new phone and it works fine. When I plug in the run over phone, the LED for charging doesn't come on, and when I press the power button, it doesn't turn on.
When I got home and realized that I ran over the phone, the home screen was still a little visible on the cracked screen, and frozen, so like an idiot, I yanked the battery in hopes that it would still power on, but it won't.
If I could just get it to power on and plug into my computer so I can get my data off it.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
So Activesync doesn't kick on when you connect the phone to the computer?
If no sign of life is visible, and your data is absolutely crucial, then the only thing to try would be to buy a phone that you can take apart, and replace if with the guts of your phone. As long as the main board was not damaged, the memory should still be intact. Try eBay or Craigslist for a phone someone is selling for parts (like one with a broken screen or something, but which still makes and receives calls).
Good luck.
Most likely you will not be able to do that anything man sorry...
Sorry if this question's been answered in another thread, I tried searching and couldn't find any question that exactly matched mine, or any response that solved the issue.
I purchased a used, unlocked Galaxy Nexus from ebay around a month or two ago, in near perfect condition -- this has been the first time I've had any problems with it. It's probably not applicable, but after the release of the dev preview for Ubuntu phone OS I rooted the phone and reinstalled the factory image "takju 4.2.2 (JDQ39)".
Anyway, a few hours ago I accidentally bumped my phone off of a counter in the kitchen onto the tile floor. I picked it up and looked it over, and noticed no visible damage whatsoever, although the plastic cover had been partially dislodged; however, the phone's screen was dark, and the phone was unresponsive. I took out the battery and replaced it, then held down the power button. The phone vibrated once, like it normally did when booting up, but the screen remained black and the phone unresponsive unless I removed and reinserted the cover again.
I've tried charging it, plugging it into my pc, removing both the battery pack and the SD card, taking the battery out and rebooting it while holding both power buttons down, but I still get no response (and my computer doesn't recognize the phone when I plug it in). After reading a post where someone had success reconnecting the display, I unscrewed and removed the casing, then disconnected and reconnected the display from the motherboard -- still nothing.
Is there anything else I can do, or is my phone beyond repair?
Did you check the other connections while you had the phone apart?

I opened it up again and took pictures, but I'm not very knowledgeable about this sort of thing, so I can't tell if anything's wrong or not. Should I remove the motherboard to get a better look at the display?
You're talking about the back cover which became dislodged upon impact? I'd say you're lucky that the phone still gives that vibrate. But it seems there are so many things that could go wrong from an impact. Do you have fastboot? [I know you said you tried holding down both volume buttons and power, but try pressing them first then tapping power.] If you don't have fastboot, then your only options would be omapflash and odin. If these do not work, it's gonna be hardware. Maybe the display is gone, if you get the vibrate but see nothing..
I want to mention this first: The, USB-connector is FINE. There is nothing wrong with it. I have cleaned it, USB fits tight and wiggling the plug does nothing. The contacts on the connector and the cable looks fine, not bent or anything. I have taken the phone apart and I checked the connector and nearby components with multimeter, it pushes 5V to the components near the connector, without the battery connected.
The problem is that when I insert the USB-cable to the phone, the battery goes to 0% and the phone shuts down. Then the phone shows an image of a battery + exclamation mark in yellow triangle. If I turn the phone on and insert the USB-cable on the GIO-screen, it will not shut down until I remove the cable or reinsert it (it depends). At that stage the USB-connection is fully working, removable drive, tethering, adb, etc. It will not charge though.
I checked the voltage on the battery connecor, it was under 2V. On my Galaxy Y and my sisters Galaxy Trend, it was around 4-5V. This could mean, that this is an hardware issue? Is there anywhere a diagram of the circuit, so I know what to check? Basically on the front side, everything I checked near the USB-connector was around 4-5V, but on the back side, it was under 2V.
The warranty has been expired about an year ago, so I cannot send it to warranty repair.
EDIT: I solved it! But I did not manage to locate the problem though. It was an hardware issue, for sure. I put the phone in oven for 5 minutes to reflow everything. Apparently there was a cracked solder joint somewhere.
So here's how it went:
I opened the phone, replaced the port (the small boardlike thing)
assembled my phone to try it.
The phone started
Then I put all the screws and sim card But I didnt get signal no matter how long I waited
So I dissassembled it again. I was a bit harsh and broke the "Power" button. (the rubber thing that makes it bounce fell off, and an small metallic circle that probably completes the circuit fell off as well.
(Google "galaxy note 2 charger port" for a picture, cant post external links @[email protected])
Checked everything was plugged properly and tried to start it with the tip of a paper clip to complete the circuit where the power button should be (that small round thing)
Nothing happened so I googled a method to start it without using the powerbutton:
youtube: Gre9qaJyCZw
Basically its to plug the charger, wait for the battery logo to show, unplug, take out the battery and put it back in quickly.
So I assembled the phone again to try that and when I connect it to charge it the screen flashes for half a second (no words no nothing, it just brightens up for a bit) And then the red led that means its charging turns on after a couple of seconds.
After doing the trick, the led turns on blue....then the phone vibrates a bit(seems its starting up, but with no sound or nothing in the screen)
And then the "menu" soft key blinks a couple of times and then back to nothing
So I just have no idea what to do @[email protected] I dont mind replacing the button but I would rather not spend on it if there's something else wrong with the phone...any ideas?
And I just bought this to replace another phone that broke ;_;
EDIT::::::
I replaced the charger port for the old one and tried the starting trick. but to the same result: after doing the trick, the led turns on blue....then the phone vibrates a bit(seems its starting up, but with no sound or nothing in the screen)

you probably messed up the mainboard or some connections.
Try to power it on with microusb board disconnected.
Make sure every single connection to the main board is connected properly

Any suggestion as to how I can start the phone with the power button broken and without the microusb board?
I already checked all the connections that you can see when replacing the microusb board (the back side of the motherboard) Is there connections worth checking in the front?
Do those symptoms sound familiar for any specific problems? (Like non working screen or motherboard)
- Charging takes a couple of seconds to turn on the red led when connected but shows nothing on the screen.
- Trying to start it with taking out the battery trick makes the led turn blue, then the phone vibrates a bit, then the menu soft key flashes a couple of times.
Update: I found 2 more symptoms
1° Kept restarting the phone with the battery trick, and a couple of times I could hear the music of the phone starting up, but it seems to be at random or due to some factor I have not spotted yet
2° If I connect it to the computer it detects the phone and lets me access the files. Kies detects it as well
If phone can be accessed through kies I think you have broken some connection between logic board.
Power button and volume + - buttons should have the same round metal part, which will work after swapping.
I think you should give up, maybe there is still hope for repair.

Thats the weird thing. if you take a look at that phone's board, the only things that are within "breakable" range when you open it with a plastic tool are:
power button
charger port
earphones port
volume buttons
And they all seem fine except for the power button. there's no other flexors or anything even remotely close to where the tool was used. (and where I got a bit rough)
Hi all,
I just upgraded the battery on my Moto 360 v1 and everything was working (including the display assembly) when I connected everything - except the side button. I opened it up, thinking there was something in the way of the button mechanism, and tried pressing the button mechanism manually. It wouldn't turn on, so I disconnected the battery for ~20 minutes. After that time I put it back together and lo and behold, it vibrated! But the screen stayed black. I put it on the charger and the screen still stayed black - but I noticed the backlight was working. Even the digitizer is working. I opened it up again and everything looks fine. The pins on the ribbon cables all seem fine, no dust/moisture. The ribbon cables themselves also seem fine.
I've already tried factory resetting via the Wear OS app, but that hasn't changed anything.
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Tiny update:
After tinkering around with things, I managed to get some pixels on the screen. So chances are good I damaged the ribbon cable. I'll update if I get it sorted.
Did you get it working?
The ribbon cables are exceptionally easy to tear when working on the watch (I managed to do this *twice* even though I knew I needed to be careful), in which case you must get a replacement display assembly from aliexpress. But it may also just be that the display connector is not fully engaged.
