Currently running 7/3 Vanilla rootbox Nightly, and I believe it's using LJC modem, should I bother flashing the MD5 modem? I applied some build.prop speed tweaks in terms of hspa+42 and within my household, I noticed increased speeds (1-3mb/s) but it's not always consistent. My upload speed definitely went up, seeing consistent 2-3mb/s compared to 1-1.5. I do live in an apartment so I don't know how well hspa+ penetrates compared to wimax (I came from sprint).
I will be heading to work later today and can throughly test speeds, but I would imagine my area gets hspa+42. I live in Chino California, 91710. If anybody has any tips/advice as far as what speed tweaks to apply or if flashing md5 is worth it, please let me know.
Unless its been reported on the map in my modem thread, the only way to know which is the best modem for you is to test them. Some folks still get the best results from the LH2 ICS radio.

That's the thing though, there isn't really ANYTHING reported in my area. Just a cluster of 4 points with no data. Loved your idea to document it all, but it went poorly utilized by the people (
I get my best results from UVLJ4. An ICS radio, there were no logs by my area but I remember getting my best speeds around October, which was this modem.
Working much better than the other latest releases.

Its been a while since I've had to look at the msp myself. Ill try to look soon and clean it up a bit if there's any points with missing data.
It started out strong but I think people just started being lazy about it and wanted to use its benefits without contributing to it. And there's a lot of folks who will never know that there is a lot of great info in that thread because they never read op's! They just download the newst and then flash.
I'd like to see more folks contibute to it again so if you ever see someone asking about modems maybe mention it to them if you want. I could be a fantastic resource, but can only become that with community contributions.
Even if you can't or don't want to test all the modems (and I fully understand this!), Some data is better than none!

When I have time I'd love to try. It won't mess up my ROM right? If not I'll flash every one And try. I don't get out much besides work but I'll try anyway and definitely refer to your thread. I'm surprised there isn't more contributions to it tbh

Nope, its completely separate from the rom and shouldn't affect anything but signal related things.
Still nandroid before trying them. Things can happen. Never seen any need for one when flashing modems, but there can always be a first time!

Modems
So far I've only tried the MD5, JA and JC versions, I don't think the MD5 is that great since it drains my battery much faster than the two other ones.
So far li8 works the best for me, but that's at my house. Going out tomorrow and testing them all

Hey alll..
I am thinking I have a phone that does not prefer ec05's modem. Is there any method or (free) app that can help me move this from observation to some actual data showing that my phone and ec05 are not playing best?
Thanks.
J

Flash the EB13 modem, and if it improves, you found your culprit (but with data problems, it's a near-guarantee it's the modem).
You could use something like this app:
Speedtest.net Mobile (in market and free)
To test what speeds you're getting using EC05 modem (run a few and average them out).
Then odin EB13 modem and run the tests again.
Then you'll have some data to compare.
Thanks for the feedback. I am trying to be more imperical than my perception. My primary concern is not the speed (although maybe that is an issue) but my signal. It seems my wifi drops in parts of the house that were solid before and my 3g seems weak. All I am working off of is the signal bars for now...I was kinda hoping for a logging/reporting thing.
I thought I read that the eb13 did speed improvements and so on. I don't wanna lose anything but I am reading people going all the way back to dk28 and the idea of a beta or rc modem being better makes little sense to me.
Thanks again.

You won't lose anything by flashing the EB13 modem, it's a simple Odin flash.

Thanks again. I know that...just worried about the placebo affect and was hoping to "prove" my observations.
I will probably try it. Thanks.

Edit: Sorry I just got what you meant. In my second posting I was referring to the loss of the enhancements alleged in EC05

There is an app called aLogCat; it logs everything going on with your phone. The logs are pretty large but you can filter the data. Maybe that could help?
I used it to help test some things for devs.

I have played with them all at some point. I haven't found the info I am seeking in logcat so I caant really tell you. One chef is claiming substant5ially better battery life from using dk28 and I have seen some android sensor usage issues reported as resolved from going to eb13. I think the devices are different and different results are happening per device.

hey there, noob here! I was just wondering if there is a 3g tweak other than the one where you go into dialer and change proxys..i tried that and doesn't seem to help much . I jump on wifi whenever i can but not an option at work and 3g is horrid in there. I read every single post on Mijjz ics goodness forum which is the rom i'm running and i don't recall seeing anything on that and I don't recall seeing anything in the posts on whats included with the rom either. I don't know if anything is out there but if there is can you point me in the right direction.....thanks
The best tweak would probably be to try different modems, people, including myself, see pretty big differences between the different builds... that said sprints 3g is just downright crappy in a lot of areas, so it may not even be an issue with your phone (probably isn't , actually) but the network in general... lastly you may want to look at phakers "placebo scripts" thread in general... I'm pretty sure most of his tweaks are battery related, however he may have some for 3g as well, worth a look at least...

I'm looking for the best radio. I have the T-mo S3 currently running PAKangs 1.40 rom (4.1.2). Reception in my area isn't that great especially in certain spots. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Your best bet is to try different ones and see which works best for you. Different people have different results depending on the area they are in, in fact some people go so far as to keep different radios on their SD for when they plan to be in another area for a while.

Not sure. But I'd recommend you start with the newest radio and work your way down until you're happy. The new radio released yesterday seems to be giving everyone decent results.

There is a sticky thread in dev for modems.
But the latest one isn't in the op. So go to the last page and work backwards until you find a link. I think I posted it in there.
I am running aerovan's cm 10-20121003 with 2.6.35.14 ae14 kernel and radio 1.09.01.0622 I've got between -83 and -95 dBm signal strength when I check. I ask you guys, who I consider experts compared to me, if there is any reason for me to flash a different radio. If the answer is yes then a suggested radio would be a welcome addition to your answer. Oh and thanks in advance.

Yeah, you can always flash back. It's easy. Rename it, put it on root of sd, reboot into bootloader and let it do its thing. Be sure to rename again and put it somewhere else or delete it once you are done. Otherwise anytime you boot into bootloader it will try to flash again, which some say is bad. If you don't know how to do it, check the stickies.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
I'm great at reading stickies. I was just wanting to know what the benefits of flashing a new radio really were. Like I said I'm pulling good service. I was just trying to figure out the benefit vs. potential risks of flashing a radio. It does seem like the risk is relatively low, but I really haven't seen the benefit side of it.

The reason we say try and see is because benefit varies. Some don't notice any. I'm not sure I do. Others see better battery, signal, performance, ect. Nothing about this phone is consistent for everyone. One person swears a rom is flawless and another can't get it to boot. If you think your phone performs well enough I would not bother.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
I did end up updating the radio. I haven't seen any noticeable change. So for me it was pointless from a performance stand point, but from the experience stand point it was worth it. The slight moment of panic when the phone doesn't make it past the splash screen before all of the different advice from what I've read on the forums kick in and I go into recovery and wipe the delvak which I had forgotten and the cache and everything booted up great.

Hi , I'm currently using Lg g2x
and it seems like this phone is a good option for me right now.
i have a few question for the phone.
1. How are the driver and development support for this phone? ( both from samsung and devs)
my g2x is a pain right now because LG did not release enough drivers and we have no fully working ICS/JB and developments are dying....
2. Are there screen burn in problems?? (This was the major reason why I tried to avoid AMOLED phones)
3. what is your general opinion?
Thank you
This phone and the dev support kicks ass. I had no qualms about keeping this through the S3 cycle, and every time I think I want to upgrade, I'm reminded that this phone does everything I want it to do.

I'm in Canada as well(however with Wind Mobile) and so far the stock koodo or Telus radio suits the best(most reliable, no data drops, etc). You may try different radios from the thread below to see if any of those works better for you with your provider. The stock koodo is there too if you wanna go back to that.
Radios in general affect the mobile signal, data connection and wifi signal. On a side note, the Telus Jellybean release is just around the corner for our device (April), we will see how is the bundled radio performs once it drops.

Flashing a custom rom(unless stated otherwise by the rom developer) won't touch your radio. So in theory your signal and other radio characteristics will remain the same. However based on the feedback in the radio thread some radio performs better for some user depending on their location(most of them are US based Tmobile customer). So it's about trial and error, try them and see if you have better results with different ones (signal, ping, download/upload, voice quality, battery life).
For Wind mobile here in my location (Ottawa) the koodo radio is the champ.
