Internal Storage Not Mounting with CM 10.1 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hello all. I did make a post in the 4.2.2 thread regarding issue with CM 10.1 but still wasn't able to find a solution to this issue. My problem is after flashing from 10.0 > 10.1 (stable) it seems that the device is unable to automatically mount the internal storage and crashes. It does open after initial flashing but after rebooting the phone, internal storage goes away. After flashing again and again, the issue still occurs. I have tried reformatting the internal storage but that also seems to not work. If anyone can please help it'd be much appreciated. Thank you

When you say you're reformatting the internal storage, are you talking about just the "/sdcard" bit (from inside Settings while the phone's running) or full wipe (from CWM or whatever recovery you use)?
There was a known bug a few months back which caused an issue mounting the internal storage (i.e. the "/sdcard" bit) which did get fixed, but some people were saying they still had continued problems from a mount command left behind in "/data/local/userinit.sh". I saw some comments saying deleting this fixed the problem. If you're doing a full wipe (from recovery) before flashing CM, it would get rid of that file anyways.

I formatted the internal storage via recovery by mounting the usb storage and formatting from there. I did try to delete the command and doing a full wipe but both did not help. Full wipe allowed the internal storage to be mounted on initial flash but after rebooting, the internal storage disappears.
Edited:
After spending the morning figuring out what went wrong I may have got it to work. For starters, I rebooted and waited 2 minutes before using my phone and found that it worked around 50% of the time for the i.s. to mount. When it failed I put in commands seen from another thread and that also worked roughly 60-75% of the time. I also deleted the actual userinit.sh and it helped along with the previous two actions. It's a hit or miss so far but as of right now, I am able to go into the internal storage.

I can't even get to my internal storage via CWM. Won't mount it, won't format... nothing. Help?
edit - figured it out.

TWRP mount/backup/flash issues

OK , so this is the first time I have actually had to make a post to get an answer to a problem I am facing. Been running Civato's Flex rom for some time now and it was flashed using Team Win . But I can remember having issues finding my directory (externalsd) then, so what I did was just place it on the internal sd to get it flashed. So, now to the problem at hand. I am wanting to change roms and also do a backup, however TWRP will not allow me to place an "x" next to the external SD mount in the mount menu. Therefore I cannot do a backup due to the size limitations of my internal storage. Also how can I flash a rom which requires a full wipe if I cannot access my external sd? Obviously it can't be placed internally because of the necessary system wipe. Also the log in TWRP says failed to locate directory/sdc . Basically TWRP doesnt show the mnt/ directory to get to the external sd card, even in file explorer under the advanced menu. Any input would be awesome! Thanx!!!

You can wipe system, totally different partition. Internal SD mounts to /data/media but using twrp or cwm data wipe won't touch internal SD, so wipe away.
As for not mounting, we won't know why without logs, but try formatting it again on your PC. Android is touchy about any kind of errors or corruption.

Thanx Pio, I took a leap and it worked out for the best. Regardless of the mount issues I was having I went ahead and did the full wipe, then flashed your CM9 build which by the way is now going to be my DD. Thanx for the hard work bro, and not to mention being the first to give some insight. After doing some thorough reading I came across others running into the same external sd mounting issues with TWRP. So, I figured for the time being let it go and just move on. I think I am just going to do the sd/internal swap mod, cancelling out anymore space problems with backups on my internal storage. Again, I appreciate everything you've done for my A100! Later

Happy it worked out for you, however keep in mind one thing: Crossix's mount swap is only active in android, not recovery, so that won't help your space issues there.
Also, the mount swap needs a different setup in CM9 or any non Acer based ROM, it requires the use of script manager or any other script management app. If you need more info on it just ask. It's been mentioned a few times in various threads, and I'm sure a few times in the mount swap thread itself.

:good: Wow, once again thanx. I am glad that you let me know before I went ahead and tried the swap mod. So far the CM9 nightly is polished imo, Team Carbon themes also work great and look clean. I have noticed though that a lot of the other themes I have running on my Epic (CM9) come back with the improperly compiled error, even after a reboot on the system theme. Is this because they are just not meant to be ran on the tablets resolutions? Thnx a lot Pio, ur the shiz :highfive:

Yeah it seems the more complex the theme, the less likely it works on our device, however stetsonaw has an awesome theme that works on our devices, if you blue is your thing, its linked in the OP for aoikaze. I didn't link it in this nightlies thread as it's meant for pure CM9, Aoikaze is the CM9 based ROM I released a little while ago.
Edit: Forgot to mention, it's included in Aoikaze too, its meant to be run with it, but is optional of course.

Can't access/format/mount Internal SD - any suggestions?

I was using the AOKP 8/23 ROM release and did a full wipe EXACTLY like the instructions say before installing the 3rd 9/1 release (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766684). I refrain from updating ROMs and always do a fresh install following ALL instructions. Somehow this last version messed up my internal SD and I can't access my files properly. They are all still in the internal SD, but the phone acts like it has 2 separate partitions. When I connect the phone to the computer, There's only a 7GB empty "partition" and I can't format it. On the phone, Astro shows me my files normally. ES Explorer shows all the files just like Astro. On CWM recovery, I can't mount or format /sdcard at all. It says "error mounting /sdcard." Then I tried installing another ROM (Slim Bean [AOSP] - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1865262) and the error continues. I assume it's not ROM-specific.
I think all I need is to completely format my internal SD, but I can't figure out how to do it on the phone or on the computer. I have backed up all my files and there's nothing important on the phone. Any idea how I can format the internal SD and start all over?

I haven't. I was afraid to do that because I burned 3 Motocrap Atrixes doing that in the past. I was lucky I did it before the 30 days of the first purchase. Since they couldn't even turn it on, they would just give me a new one. The third one didn't burn.
I restored a Nandroid backup with an ICS rom and the computer could see all files on the phone. The phone itself could too. The AOKP Jelly Bean rom I had before worked fine until I updated it. That's when it messed up. Now all JB roms show that problem. I'm hoping this is just a bug and will be worked out eventually, but it sure freaks me out. I don't want to be stuck with ICS just because of a random error.
I went to system settings --> backup and reset to do a factory reset and it couldn't clear my internal SD. The rom would go back to a fresh install like a full wipe, but nothing happened do the storage. Isn't there another way to completely reset the phone?

[Q] Sd card issue (CM 10)

Hello folks,
Recently I have flashed CM 10 via CWM 6.0.3.2 on my Samsung Galaxy W. (I followed this procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1990795)
Everything worked out fine (yay) exept for two issues I have:
1. My SGW doesn't recognize my Sd card (internal) at all. (though internal is mounted in cwm menu)
I have several folders regarding my sd and external sd:
- sdcard> tells me it is "unplugged" (in German> translation might differ) when I enter via file manager
- mnt/sdcard> here it tells me my sd card is unplugged as always
- storage/sdcard0> unplugged
- external_sd> it tells me sd card unplugged if I enter
- mnt/external_sd >here I can enter all of my folders
- storage/sdcard1> here I can enter again
2. My SGW can't mount my external sd anymore. I can clearly enter my external sd's files, but apparently I cannot mount my PC. Especially not with Multimount because it requests me to mount my internal sd (issue 1).
So how do I get it to work properly? - is it possible to do it via Terminal Emulator?
Specifications:
- Samsung Galaxy W
- Android Version 4.1.2.
- Kernel Version: 3.0.80-cyanogenmod-gc689589
[email protected] #1
- Cyanogenmod Version: 10-20130605- UNOFFICIAL-ancora
Thanks a lot in advance
Hi, I have similar issues with internal storage after flashing to 4.2.2 and also 4.1.2. Model is galaxy W previously 2.3.6 stock.
At root, i have
/data, which seems to be my internal storage as the FX file explorer show it has a storage of 1.07gb
/external_sd, which contains my files in micro sd card
/sdcard, which ES say SDCard unmounted
/storage, which contains sdcard0 (SDCard unmounted), sdcard1 (micro sd), usbdisk (SDCard unmounted)
In the andriod settings > storage, I can see internal storage with total space 1.07gb, but unable to mount it.
My camera and gallery says "No external storage available".
What should I do? Please help

This can be done for the SDcard you can unplug and plug directly to an other device like an PC, but not with the internal.
So better try the following. Secure your files if you can. Reboot into recovery and format there both. Rebooot into CM10 or whatever ROM you are using and change your USB operation mode from MTP to Mass Storage.

You probably mean back to stock Samsung ROM. But how will this fix corrupted partitions? And why "must" if there are probably more simple ways to fix it rather than flashing roms forth and back?
First of all he should format both and switch to Mass Storage mode to see if this fixes his issue. Flashing ROMs still can be tryied as a last resort.

I think you are mixing something up. First of all he didn´t say he can´t mount / access it from CWM Recovery but from a running ROM. This is two different things so it still should be possible to access both in CWM Recovery and to do a format.
Secound. Flashing a ROM will not format the internal Storage but only the partition where the ROM will be flashed to. They are not the same, so this is also two different things. So even if you flash a ROM but are having corrupted SDcards (Internal and external) they will stay corrupted till you fix this.
And this is why I suggested to first boot into RECOVERY, format both and finally after rebooting change to Mass Storage as the MTP Mode is not always working very well. If this doesn´t help he still can flash back to stock ROM.
However now I´m just repeating what I already said before. If you can´t get it, then I´m sorry for you.

External SD for Apps/Cache/etc

Hi,
I am getting the annoying "Insufficient Space" errors whenever I install some things from app market. One thing can be 1mb and not work while others that are bigger will randomly work! It's just random .. but also seems to be a trend of apps i installed in the past, or ones that i have already that are trying to update. YES it tried wiping cache/dalvik cache, so no tips on factory reset/cache etc ty
There are many OUTDATED/broken tutorials for making an external partition for app data and such, and I am having trouble finding a good guide on how to do this.
Can anyone show me a good guide/video that is recent, using TWRP, that can show me how to accomplish this?
Other info:
* I do NOT use cyanogenmod (some of the App2SD apps are only for CM9/10)
* TWRP 2.6.0.0 is missing the SD card partition button! So I flashed CWM and made a 4gb partition in my extSD card. Now what?
Thanks mates

! would also like to see this issue resolved
Ok, so I have my external SD card partitioned. In regards to my related post, it was a bug so CWM was able to partition.
Now i have this 4gb partitioned space with 0 swap space as instructed. Now I want to make it so that apps install there instead of the emulated SDcard and also have the dalvik cache/cache there as well or whatever the heck it is that takes away the "INSUFFICIENT SPACE" bug when I 100% have space.... [Q] Unable to find files internal storage?

Hello Again, I have found a few threads with the same issue but something in the middle is different, this has happened on my Nexus 5 before, and it pissed me off because i never got it resolved.
I want to convert my HTC One M8 ATT to GPE later today, but first i'm on sense with NvROM.
The ROM isn't the issue since it's been working fine for a 2 weeks now, here is the story.
What i did-
Recovery (Wanted to try out CarbonROM)
Flashed LiquidSmooths kernel ontop of Carbon, got "Unfortunately phone has stopped".
Went to recovery again to attempt to flash liquidsmooth only.
E: Unable to mount /data
E: Unable to mount /system
E: Unable to mount /cache
E: Unable to mount /sdcard
E: Wiping /data /system /cache failed!
Now, i rebooted and those errors are non existent i can flash again.
But on LiquidSmooth , The Gallery can not find my Pictures.
The Music app can not find the music anymore.
Whenever i use a File Manager , magically my files are still there.
Anybody got ideas on this one? Thanks.
>Pics related<
Try to connect the phone to a PC, and use Device Manager to format the internal memory. Backup any personal data first, if needed (and if possible).
I've heard that , that causes the eMMc or internal storage to go into Read Only mode?
anyone correct me when i`m totally wrong here.
hasn't this something to do with the so called fused location of your sd-card ?
On my phone the locations of the sdcard is shown different then when i locate them trough recovery or shell.
In android the location is something like: /root/storage/sdcard (internal memory)
the real location in my case was shown in recovery as: /root/storage/emulated/0/
And i think because i had previously installed a cm11 based rom and kernel.
And when i completely wiped my phone for a newly rom, afterwards i still had all my data on my phone, because it didn't wipe the /emulated/0 location.
so all the files are still found with a file manager because the two location i mentioned before are fused. But your apps still has the old location in his settings somewhere..
You can try to do a media rescan so your phone search for new media.... But i believe that is also done when you reboot your phone.
I had that happen to me and I was able to fix it by using the "Format" option in TWRP recovery. That, of course, wipes everything on the device but everything will be mounted correctly and properly again.
Guys, I ended up fixing it.
TWRP format fixes it but i needed a backup. Also first attempt at formatting it on TWRP had issues. E:Can't format , E: Data isn't mounted.
Ended up just going ahead and doing the Google Play Edition Conversion and that fixed the whole issue, Thanks for your time!

so wait, aren't you going to tell us what you mean by it fixed the whole issue? were you able to back up the data first?
I'm having a slightly different (maybe similar) issue.. my at&T m8 was working fine on insertcoin (previously viper/venom) and i decided to try a very stock AT&T debloated rom.
forgot to flash the firmware first, so booted into fastboot, and was going to do that.. but it wouldn't work, gave me an error..
booted back into recovery (TWRP 2.7.0.2) and my internal storage WILL NOT MOUNT. hence, nothing works... I can see microSD files, I can attempt to flash things ,but, due to the internal "sd" (not my microsd, just using old fashioned android terminology) not mounting, every operation fails. interestingly, I can mount / (root partition) and it has the correct structure, and even some vestiges of my files.. when i say mount, i mean in recovery on the device.. not on a computer via USB.
any ideas? i'm stuck
I know i can probably format the /media/data blahblah partition (the internal storage) but I have very important photographs of my best friend's wedding and my children's recent visit to their grandparents'.. so i really really want to restore those files.. I do this kind of thing (file forensics) on OSX, windows, and some linux drives, all the time at work.. I just don't know how to access the storage on an android phone, in order to run the forensics scans etc.
thanks!!

so wait, aren't you going to tell us what you mean by it fixed the whole issue? were you able to back up the data first?
I'm having a slightly different (maybe similar) issue.. my at&T m8 was working fine on insertcoin (previously viper/venom) and i decided to try a very stock AT&T debloated rom.

Sorry, but what i did was different, and MIGHT factory reset your internal storage, i can't verify 100%.
You can do two things,
Either flash the RUU
for 4.4.3 STOCK HTC [ATT]
or Flash Google Play edition RUU and revert back to sense which will fix it too.
