Anyone have or heard of an issue where the galaxy nexus syncs perfect, can make calls, etc with a my ford sync system but if the phone is connected via bluetooth the GPS navigation does not work and the system either has to be hard reset or the phone has to be unpaired and then the navigation works. This is problematic for obvious reasons especially while driving. I have reset this persons phone, and the navi system works with other galaxy nexus's. His is the only problem. The guy at ford said weird characters in email contacts/contacts can mess it up but with over 4,000+ contacts this is not a viable option. any ideas?

I had my contacts give weird characters with my Ford Sync but that was with my Nexus S, my Gnex doesn't have that problem. As far as the navigation, it works fine for me when BT is connected. You might need to go to your BT options and make sure you have your internal GPS selected not Ford Sync.
For the contacts issue, you may need to flash some older Roms maybe a 4.11 or maybe even ICS. If it clears up flash back to your Rom of choice. Which one are you currently running? I can try to reproduce the error with my Nexus S and see what causes it.
FYI I have a 08 Ford Fusion.
Did the reset include pulling a fuse out of the vehicle for a period of time (like 10 minutes) and then reconnecting the devices after the fuse is put back?
That's what it took a friend to have both continuously in sync. Radio system got reset though.
Sounds crazy, but it has continued to work flawlessly since. Owners manual should indicate the correct fuse to pull out.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Just an FYI,
Instead of going through 4,000+ contacts that have weird characters, we decided to not sync the phonebook to the my ford touch after factory resetting his phone. This seems to have solved the problem as of now. A weird side note... when phone is connected via BT it takes considerably longer for GPS in car to compute the route even after the phonebook fix, compared to no phone being connected.

Anyone doing this yet,

Yes, currently using it on my Mercury Mountaineer. Works Great!
Great, Are you using it for both music and phone or phone only?
phone only so far. I can get audio steaming to work yet.
Does it work for you to hold down the phone button on the steering wheel to hang up calls? I've got a Ford Fusion and the Verizon TP2 and while I can initiate calls with voice commands etc, I can't seem to hang up the phone using the cars controls. I always have to get the phone outta my pocket and hit the end call button manually (big pain in the butt).
Just checked the sync website and no new updates available =(
Any ideas?

I have the touch screen nav package, so I end the call using that. Did you try holding down the button for 2 seconds? Sometimes a quick press and release does different things than a hold then release.
Fixes to use your Tilt 2 on Ford Sync with phone and music
My wife and I just got a Tilt 2 a few days ago. First of all both our phones have the latest system updates as of March 2010. We both are running Windows Mobile 6.5. You can find any updates at the HTC website if you need them. I ran into issues connecting to sync with the Tilt 2 myself but my wife's phone did not but did ask for a code. I finally got it fixed. I'm sharing my experiences with anyone else who wants Sync to work with their phone.
Tip 1 - Sync asking for unlock code
My previous Windows Mobile 6.5 device idn't require this but this fixes the problem on the Tilt 2 but it does disable your lock code. To workaround this issue disable your lock code a the following place
Start->Settings->Lock
Enter your unlock code and press "Unlock"
Uncheck "Prompt if phone unused for" option
Select the Ok button on the top right
Tip 2 - If the vehicle is not seeing your Tilt 2 or is not staying connected to it.
Slide over to your "Settings" on your phone.
Select "Communications"
Select "Bluetooth" and don't touch the off slider to the right.
On the box that comes up select the top left tab that looks like gears.
Select "Discoverable"
Change the setting to "Always Visible" and select "Done"
Tip 3 - If your Tilt 2 is not connecting at all are rarely connecting to Sync.
You may have corrupted a system file like me.
Reset the phone back to factory go to the following to fix syncing an call issues.
Back up all of my documents and contacts with Microsoft MyPhone and made sure that my apps that I didn't get from the marketplace were saved on my computer. If you're tech savvy you can use another backup utility but just don't back up the system files and settings.
Browse to Start->Settings->System->Clear Storage
Sign back into Windows Marketplace to have it reinstall your programs.
Reinstall Microsoft MyPhone from the Windows Marketplace and sign it to have it restore your contacts and other documents.
Follow the two steps in Tips 1 and 2 to get the best experience possible
Tip 4 - Playing music off your Tilt 2 on Ford Sync while using your phone
First of all the Tilt 2 will not let you stream your music to the Sync via Bluetooth. It will say it is not supported but I think it gets confused because it doesn't want to be a phone and music player at the same time but rest assured there is a workaround.
Let your phone with the Sync via regular Bluetooth first.
Plug in the USB cable that comes with your phone into the USB jack on the sync
When the phone asks what it is connected to DO NOT CHOOSE ACTIVESYNC but instead choose "Disk Drive".
That's it! Your music be browsed and played directly via the Sync voice commands and you can still get phone calls without problems.
Don't forget to make sure to close those programs completely when your don't to avoid out of memory errors. Just press and hold the X instead of just pressing it. This will close the program. Either that or use something like cleanRAM to do it for you.
Enjoy your Tilt 2 and your Ford Sync.
SYNC problems still exist
Well folks I am sad to report that my Sync problems have returned. I thought my previous post had the solution but Clearing the Memory only fixes the problem temporarily. You can find the related experience at the AT&T forums and search for Tilt 2 and Ford Sync. Sorry I can't post links yet. It looks like the issue with the SYNC at least for some may be the Radio ROM. I'm trying out the latest Radio ROM 4.49.25.01 and will report back my results. Crossing my fingers here.
Also my solution of choosing Disk drive when hooking up the Ford Sync has one problem. If you are like me and changed WinMo to use the SD card for temporary storage when you choose this option Windows looses its temporary storage and becomes unstable sometimes. So you have a choice. Use Blooth Audio Streaming and lose the functions of voice control of music or use the USB cable and be sure not to use your SD card for Temp Files. At least this has been my experience.

I just wanted to update everyone on a possible fix for Bluetooth on the Tilt 2. I changed out the Radio ROM to to 4.49.25.91 from the stock AT&T version. For the past two days I have been using a simple password to lock my phone and every time I have entered the vehicle my Sync system has picked it up without fail and has yet to ask me to unlock my device. It just works. What seems to be even better at this point is I don't have to have my phone broadcasting for it to work and even the Bluetooth audio connects. If I choose Bluetooth Audio on my truck it connects to the phone and starts it playing. Now if I could only have it browse the music via sync with Bluetooth Audio I would be on cloud nine but I don't think that can happen. I think that is set in the Sync the Bluetooth Audio can only have limited controls.
Anyone else having bluetooth problems or is this operator error?
I can switch bluetooth on, make my handset visible, pair with other devices and receive files from other handsets, however when I try to send anything, I can't connect to paired devices and bluetooth hangs meaning I have to switch my handset off and on.
I was using bluetooh last night and all was ok
but unlike my last phone c902 the bluetooth is on a timer then turns off visibility
Working fine for me. Paired up my bluetooth headset and will still be working hours later even if I haven't interacted between them.
It's strange, devices show as paired but not connected and I can't make them connect.
Have been able to use BT for file transfer between my Desire and laptop and HD2. Also connected to my Plantronics BT headset. I think you need to have an appropriate BT driver for some devices like BT keyboards.
I too am having minor issues.
The wife's hands free kit (Parrot CK3000 evo) in the car supports voice dialling by sending contacts to it and then recording a tag which is associated with the contact. This way the kit can do the voice dialling for handsets that don't support it.
For some reason the Desire refuses to send contacts to the hands free kit claiming it doesn't support the correct bluetooth profiles. This obviously isn't the case as all the other phones we have tried work perfectly with the CK3000.
Only a minor issue, as in my car which has the CK3300 everything works fine (including syncing the phonebook to the car kit). It's more of a problem for the wife though, as she wants to upgrade to the Desire on Saturday when her contract is up for renewal but at the minute won't be able to voice dial from the car.
Dae.
Strange. I'll try connceting to my laptop later.
I too am having difficulty sending files over bluetooth. I can accept files fine, from any source, yet cannot send from my HTC Desire. First the notification says complete, but 0 files sent. Then going inside it shows it has failed. And then clicking it and retrying shows Unknown file. What's going on??
Tried sending to two mobile phones, and a Windows 7 laptop. Easily works the other way around. Also, sometimes I can't turn my bluetooth off properly, it just crashes the chip while turning off and can't turn it on or off until I reboot. Thought it might be Advanced Task Killer, but tried the same thing immediately after a reboot and still can't send files. Any ideas?
still no closer to solving this, I think it may be going back tomorrow.
I'm also having problems...
I have the Parrot CK3200 LS-COLOR and it connects to the phone ok, or vice versa and then it always falls over when trying to sync the contacts... It shows my facebook profile pic and then it fails.
If I dial a contact through the phone, or receive a call, it comes out fine through the speakers.
So I'm wondering if it's something to do with the way the the desire handles contacts.
Sorry if there's been a resolution to this, I did search first
me to also having the same problems. spent 4 hours on google last night and still no closer.
Weird as it might sound, I had no issues connectiong to car stereo. But when I tried to pair it with friends mobile, SonyEricsson c902 - it crashed!
I was trying to send a picture file I have downloaded using bluetooth.
Also, can anyone tell me how to send a mp3 file I have downloaded off the internet to another mobile using bluetooth?
Thanks
Have you enabled FTP under Bluetooth advanced settings? I have no problem transfering files to and from PC or other mobile phone. Also make sure the device is dicroverable and paired.
I had a similar problem which I wrote to HTC about: I paired and connected the Desire with my bluetooth car head unit and it works fine for phone & audio, but it will not auto connect each time I get in the car and I have to go through the pairing process and enter a code each time. Voice dialling also doesn't work. My previous handset (Touch HD) connected automatically if the bluetooth was on so I don't think it's a problem with the head unit. Someone suggested it might be due to an old bluetooth protocol on the head unit (I'd like to avoid having to replace it if possible).
i managed to send a file to another htc desire today, last time i tried, i admit i didn't enable the ftp service, however I could not send via bluetooth to a nokia n96 but to be fair, my desire probably just didn't want anything to do with it . but on a serious note I cant seem to get it to send to my windows 7 x64 disto.

take that back .. apart from the N96 joke.. reason windows was not accepting was because avast anti virus was blocking it.

All,
I have this small issue with my HTC Desire and the Parrot CK3000 Evolution. Until now, everything works perfectly (calling, sending contacts, voice dialing, ending calls,...)
However I have one small issue. When I enter my car, and my phone is locked, the Desire will not pair with the Parrot. From the moment I activate the screen, pairing is done within a few seconds. I already tried to leave it there for half an hour, no pairing, touched the screen, pairing within a few seconds.
It looks to me like the bluetooth is not active / alive when the phone is locked (or in sleep). From the moment the pairing is done, everything works fine, also when the phone is back in lock / sleep.
Anybody has anything similar or has a solution for this? I searched the market for some kind of Bluetooth-keep-alive application, but could not really find it...
Thanks in advance,
Best regards,
Speedygerre
Small bump, nobody any idea for a solution or somekind of workaround / app?

I have a similar situation with my Audi A5 (factory BT kit).
It will connect when the phone is locked (screen off etc) but it can take anything from 1 to 10 minutes before it does connect.
Like yourself, my Desire connects immediately if the phone is not locked.
Strangely, it appears to work OK in my Mazda MX-5 which has a Kenwood DNX8220BT system (Bluetooth, SatNav, Ipod, coffee maker etc) - and the Bluetooth is a Parrot system. Having said that, I haven't used the MX-5 much since I got my Desire so it might not be a representative sample.
There is definitely something amiss though.
I have a Parrot CK 3100, and whilst I am happy to report that I do not have the same problem as you, I did have a problem syncing my contacts.
Check out this site, and download the software to udate to the latest firmware. You will need a laptop with either built in bluetooth, or a seperate bluetooth dongle.
http://www.parrot.com/uk/support/onlinehelpguides
I updated the firmware on mine, and now my contacts sync properly.
There is a good chance that updating could fix your connection problem as well.
Sorry forgot to add, that updating the kit really is a doddle, but their software is Windows 32bit ONLY and definitely no MAC!
Thans pergolesi, I hope your suggestion workshop, I will try it when I have some time one of the next days.
However I still think it has something to do with the Desire, since syncing workshop perfectly when Desire is not locked...

I don't know about the Bluetooth but I know my wifi deactivates after about 5 minutes when it's locked even though I have it set to never turn off. Maybe the Bluetooth is doing the same.
Perhaps not much help, but I sometimes play music from my Desire on my car headunit using Bluetooth streaming, and that continues to work fine when the screen goes off and the phone is locked. It also still responds to commands from the headunit (skip, pause, etc).
Once it's connected, everything works OK for me as well, it just is the connecting moment which apparently does not always work

Can I ask what year your A5 is? I've got a 2010 A3 and BT doesn't work properly with my Desire I can get it to pair, but then it will disconnect a few minutes later and the only way to reconnect seems to be to unpair/repair or switch the car off/on. When it IS working it can make calls, etc. fine - but I just can't get it to stay connected I tried my Audi dealer but they just said it's not on the Audi list and there's no update to support it, so interested to hear you got it working on your A5.

My A5 is a 2008 model with SatNav and therefore MMI High. The Desire paired straight away with no problems and both the car and the phone remember each other - it just takes awhile sometimes for one or the other to realise it and connect.
I'm pretty certain that it is the phone that has the problem as I had no such problems with several Sony Ericsson phones previously.

Thanks - interesting. I wonder how many different BT stacks Audi run - I was hoping they'd share some common code and therefore be updated quickly but it sounds like this isn't the case given that it's working fine on your A5. Thanks for the info though!
I previously owned the Evo and when I paired the bluetooth in my car with the phone, it immediately asked for permission to access the phonebook on the phone via PBAP (Phonebook Access Profile - a Bluetooth standard profile). This way the handset phonebook was accessible from the display on my car and also provided the information for Caller ID for contacts that existed in my address book.
I noticed when I paired the Epic with the car that the same thing didn't occur. When I try to access the handset phonebook from my car, it shows an entry for "MyInfo" and that is it. None of my other contacts are listed.
The question is whether there is a setting somewhere to allow this, or is the PBAP profile not available? In the technical specs for the phone, the PBA is listed as a profile for Bluetooth.
Same thing is happening to me. I have Ford Sync in an 08 Sable and it downloaded the phone book but when I try to voice dial it keeps asking me about "call MyInfo." Like that is the only listing there is. I am also having problems with the voice dialing on the phone itself (and not thru bluetooth), and with trying to record a memo. I keep getting the "try again" screen or "nothing is heard" notice. It's like the microphone is turned off. Anyone else having these problems? Thanks
bluetooth voice
I notice that there is no 'handsfree' profile available for bluetooth devices in the epic. With my former windoze phone, I did not have access to voice features from a bluetooth device until I applied a 'handsfree' profile rather than the standard 'headset' profile.
Does anyone know whether this is going to be fixed anytime soon? I really want the ability to press the button on my bluetooth, thereby activating voice dial and then voice dialing right from the bluetooth device rather than from the phone. I do not like physically handling the phone at all while in the car.

This is an issue with Ford Sync. It intercepts all interaction with the phone and doesn't relay any voice to the phone I believe. A feature I loved, but with 2.2 and 3.0 will become outdated quickly (I'd like to be able to issue Voice Actions over bluetooth for sending text messages and changing pandora stations).
Voice dialing on my '10 Fusion and Phonebook downloading works perfectly fine.

I second that question. Sprint store tech says android 2.2 is suppose to fix that and everything else (exchange setting to allow attachment download) We'll see
Same issue with BMW and Epic
I'm having this issue as well, exactly like the original poster described, but in a 2010 BMW 3-series with iDrive. This is a huge disappointment coming from an EVO and iPhone before that. Hopefully this issue will be resolved quickly or the phone might have to go back. I can deal with everything else, including the inexplicable lack of ability to move messages between folders in Exchange, but this is crucial as I spend a lot of time in my car. Ugh.
Any help?
Any help on this issue? It really is a deal-breaker for me, as I bet it is for many others.
Fixed with the maintenance update?
So, here is an update on the situation. Yesterday I applied the Epic maintenance update that was just released. Today I was in the car when I received a call. Previously, my car would just show the phone number because it couldn't read the phone book on the phone, but today it showed the name and phone number. So I went into the "handset phonebook" option on my car, and it was able to see all of my Exchange contacts in the phone, something that I wasn't able to do previously.
It appears that this might've been addressed with the latest update, although the release notes (as far as I know) don't make any mention of it.
This happened to me the first time I synced my phone to a 2009 Mini Cooper S Works (similar to the BMW systems). All I got was "My Info". I was bummed out about it, since I'm in the market for a new car soon and I really liked the Cooper. I paired it to my girlfriend's VW Tiguan. Synced fast and easy and everything worked perfectly. So I was thinking, OK, stuck with a GTI then. Out of curiostity, I tried syncing it again to the Mini, and voila! Everything worked perfectly. It wasn't fixed by the DI07 update, this worked before I installed the update.
To all those having this issue, try syncing again. There wasn't anything that popped up on the phone or anything. I literally changed nothing, just retried it and it worked.
I solved Samsung Xcover (S5690, Android 2.3.6) connection to a carkit on Renault Laguna 3.
Steps used:
1. I root phone;
2. I used ES File Explorer to access system files. In ES File Explorer settings I give root privileges.
3. I installed from Google Play program “Mount / system (rw / ro)” (free).
4. I run Mount/system (rw / ro) and I enabled "mount r/w". He is active several seconds, so it goes quickly to ES File Explorer.
5. I open ES File Explorer: --- / system / app /. I look for Bluetooth.apk and I renamed to bluetooth.apk.bak.
6. File bluetoothpbap ...... . apk does not start at all.
The biggest surprise was that the car recognizes the phone, contacts, media, everything.
I hope to work on other samsung phones (I think it's a general problem).
I just picked up a my new Note II yesterday, have done nothing to it except install the latest update. This thing is STOCK. My issue is with the Bluetooth connection in my car. I have a 2009 BMW with IDrive which has the Bluetooth integration built in to it. My HD-2, Sensation, GNexus, original Note all connect very nicely to the Bluetooth but my Note II is struggling. I paired it yesterday on the way home from the AT&T store and it worked fine. When prompted to allow the phone book during my initial pairing I checked the box "Don't ask me again" and clicked "Yes", same thing I've done on all my other phones. This morning however it would continue to drop out. It would connect for 15-20 seconds and I would see the little icon that tells me the phone is transferring the contacts then it would simply drop out. 15 -20 seconds later it would recycle and do the same thing again. When I was looking at the contact list on my car's screen it was showing AT&T address book which I do not use (it was just one contact, "something" AT&T) and in fact froze everything AT&T I could through the settings menu . I then deleted the phone from the car's menu and repaired it to the IDrive but this time I said no to allow the phone book. It was not dropping the connection but was constantly trying to obtain the contact data based on the icon on my car's screen. Then all of sudden I received an alert stating an "SOS Call System Failure", my car has a built in SOS function like Onstar....I deleted the phone again and the warning in my IDrive regarding the SOS failure went away.
I searched the BMW forums and found other people with this problem but these were from the '07-'08 time frames and that fix was software to the car. The software in my car is updated and so is the B/T profiles I also found a thread here regarding a similar issue but there was no resolution. Has anyone else had this experience with the Note II? I know enough to get myself in trouble but not enough to figure this out. Is it possible the Bluetooth in the phone only wants to transmit the AT&T address book vs. the Google contacts?? I guess it could be the software in the car but my other Note, whether running stock or CM 9/10 ran flawlessly with regards to the Bluetooth.
Weird, yesterday it's fine and today not so much. Did the last software update have anything in it that affected the B/T?
Any insight would be much appreciated, thanks.
UPDATE-appears my car cannot handle a Bluetooth profile of 4.0. All my previous phones were no higher than 3.0. Hoping BMW will offer a software update at some point but in the mean time if I go with a custom ROM will they probably keep the Bluetooth profile the same as stock or is that something they change??
