[Q] Bluetooth drops in and out - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I just picked up a my new Note II yesterday, have done nothing to it except install the latest update. This thing is STOCK. My issue is with the Bluetooth connection in my car. I have a 2009 BMW with IDrive which has the Bluetooth integration built in to it. My HD-2, Sensation, GNexus, original Note all connect very nicely to the Bluetooth but my Note II is struggling. I paired it yesterday on the way home from the AT&T store and it worked fine. When prompted to allow the phone book during my initial pairing I checked the box "Don't ask me again" and clicked "Yes", same thing I've done on all my other phones. This morning however it would continue to drop out. It would connect for 15-20 seconds and I would see the little icon that tells me the phone is transferring the contacts then it would simply drop out. 15 -20 seconds later it would recycle and do the same thing again. When I was looking at the contact list on my car's screen it was showing AT&T address book which I do not use (it was just one contact, "something" AT&T) and in fact froze everything AT&T I could through the settings menu . I then deleted the phone from the car's menu and repaired it to the IDrive but this time I said no to allow the phone book. It was not dropping the connection but was constantly trying to obtain the contact data based on the icon on my car's screen. Then all of sudden I received an alert stating an "SOS Call System Failure", my car has a built in SOS function like Onstar....I deleted the phone again and the warning in my IDrive regarding the SOS failure went away.
I searched the BMW forums and found other people with this problem but these were from the '07-'08 time frames and that fix was software to the car. The software in my car is updated and so is the B/T profiles I also found a thread here regarding a similar issue but there was no resolution. Has anyone else had this experience with the Note II? I know enough to get myself in trouble but not enough to figure this out. Is it possible the Bluetooth in the phone only wants to transmit the AT&T address book vs. the Google contacts?? I guess it could be the software in the car but my other Note, whether running stock or CM 9/10 ran flawlessly with regards to the Bluetooth.
Weird, yesterday it's fine and today not so much. Did the last software update have anything in it that affected the B/T?
Any insight would be much appreciated, thanks.
UPDATE-appears my car cannot handle a Bluetooth profile of 4.0. All my previous phones were no higher than 3.0. Hoping BMW will offer a software update at some point but in the mean time if I go with a custom ROM will they probably keep the Bluetooth profile the same as stock or is that something they change??

bluetooth problems?

Anyone else having bluetooth problems or is this operator error?
I can switch bluetooth on, make my handset visible, pair with other devices and receive files from other handsets, however when I try to send anything, I can't connect to paired devices and bluetooth hangs meaning I have to switch my handset off and on.
I was using bluetooh last night and all was ok
but unlike my last phone c902 the bluetooth is on a timer then turns off visibility
Working fine for me. Paired up my bluetooth headset and will still be working hours later even if I haven't interacted between them.
It's strange, devices show as paired but not connected and I can't make them connect.
Have been able to use BT for file transfer between my Desire and laptop and HD2. Also connected to my Plantronics BT headset. I think you need to have an appropriate BT driver for some devices like BT keyboards.
I too am having minor issues.
The wife's hands free kit (Parrot CK3000 evo) in the car supports voice dialling by sending contacts to it and then recording a tag which is associated with the contact. This way the kit can do the voice dialling for handsets that don't support it.
For some reason the Desire refuses to send contacts to the hands free kit claiming it doesn't support the correct bluetooth profiles. This obviously isn't the case as all the other phones we have tried work perfectly with the CK3000.
Only a minor issue, as in my car which has the CK3300 everything works fine (including syncing the phonebook to the car kit). It's more of a problem for the wife though, as she wants to upgrade to the Desire on Saturday when her contract is up for renewal but at the minute won't be able to voice dial from the car.
Dae.
Strange. I'll try connceting to my laptop later.
I too am having difficulty sending files over bluetooth. I can accept files fine, from any source, yet cannot send from my HTC Desire. First the notification says complete, but 0 files sent. Then going inside it shows it has failed. And then clicking it and retrying shows Unknown file. What's going on??
Tried sending to two mobile phones, and a Windows 7 laptop. Easily works the other way around. Also, sometimes I can't turn my bluetooth off properly, it just crashes the chip while turning off and can't turn it on or off until I reboot. Thought it might be Advanced Task Killer, but tried the same thing immediately after a reboot and still can't send files. Any ideas?
still no closer to solving this, I think it may be going back tomorrow.
I'm also having problems...
I have the Parrot CK3200 LS-COLOR and it connects to the phone ok, or vice versa and then it always falls over when trying to sync the contacts... It shows my facebook profile pic and then it fails.
If I dial a contact through the phone, or receive a call, it comes out fine through the speakers.
So I'm wondering if it's something to do with the way the the desire handles contacts.
Sorry if there's been a resolution to this, I did search first
me to also having the same problems. spent 4 hours on google last night and still no closer.
Weird as it might sound, I had no issues connectiong to car stereo. But when I tried to pair it with friends mobile, SonyEricsson c902 - it crashed!
I was trying to send a picture file I have downloaded using bluetooth.
Also, can anyone tell me how to send a mp3 file I have downloaded off the internet to another mobile using bluetooth?
Thanks
Have you enabled FTP under Bluetooth advanced settings? I have no problem transfering files to and from PC or other mobile phone. Also make sure the device is dicroverable and paired.
I had a similar problem which I wrote to HTC about: I paired and connected the Desire with my bluetooth car head unit and it works fine for phone & audio, but it will not auto connect each time I get in the car and I have to go through the pairing process and enter a code each time. Voice dialling also doesn't work. My previous handset (Touch HD) connected automatically if the bluetooth was on so I don't think it's a problem with the head unit. Someone suggested it might be due to an old bluetooth protocol on the head unit (I'd like to avoid having to replace it if possible).
i managed to send a file to another htc desire today, last time i tried, i admit i didn't enable the ftp service, however I could not send via bluetooth to a nokia n96 but to be fair, my desire probably just didn't want anything to do with it . but on a serious note I cant seem to get it to send to my windows 7 x64 disto.

take that back .. apart from the N96 joke.. reason windows was not accepting was because avast anti virus was blocking it.

[Q] Bluetooth Phonebook (PBAP) Support?

I previously owned the Evo and when I paired the bluetooth in my car with the phone, it immediately asked for permission to access the phonebook on the phone via PBAP (Phonebook Access Profile - a Bluetooth standard profile). This way the handset phonebook was accessible from the display on my car and also provided the information for Caller ID for contacts that existed in my address book.
I noticed when I paired the Epic with the car that the same thing didn't occur. When I try to access the handset phonebook from my car, it shows an entry for "MyInfo" and that is it. None of my other contacts are listed.
The question is whether there is a setting somewhere to allow this, or is the PBAP profile not available? In the technical specs for the phone, the PBA is listed as a profile for Bluetooth.
Same thing is happening to me. I have Ford Sync in an 08 Sable and it downloaded the phone book but when I try to voice dial it keeps asking me about "call MyInfo." Like that is the only listing there is. I am also having problems with the voice dialing on the phone itself (and not thru bluetooth), and with trying to record a memo. I keep getting the "try again" screen or "nothing is heard" notice. It's like the microphone is turned off. Anyone else having these problems? Thanks
bluetooth voice
I notice that there is no 'handsfree' profile available for bluetooth devices in the epic. With my former windoze phone, I did not have access to voice features from a bluetooth device until I applied a 'handsfree' profile rather than the standard 'headset' profile.
Does anyone know whether this is going to be fixed anytime soon? I really want the ability to press the button on my bluetooth, thereby activating voice dial and then voice dialing right from the bluetooth device rather than from the phone. I do not like physically handling the phone at all while in the car.

This is an issue with Ford Sync. It intercepts all interaction with the phone and doesn't relay any voice to the phone I believe. A feature I loved, but with 2.2 and 3.0 will become outdated quickly (I'd like to be able to issue Voice Actions over bluetooth for sending text messages and changing pandora stations).
Voice dialing on my '10 Fusion and Phonebook downloading works perfectly fine.

I second that question. Sprint store tech says android 2.2 is suppose to fix that and everything else (exchange setting to allow attachment download) We'll see
Same issue with BMW and Epic
I'm having this issue as well, exactly like the original poster described, but in a 2010 BMW 3-series with iDrive. This is a huge disappointment coming from an EVO and iPhone before that. Hopefully this issue will be resolved quickly or the phone might have to go back. I can deal with everything else, including the inexplicable lack of ability to move messages between folders in Exchange, but this is crucial as I spend a lot of time in my car. Ugh.
Any help?
Any help on this issue? It really is a deal-breaker for me, as I bet it is for many others.
Fixed with the maintenance update?
So, here is an update on the situation. Yesterday I applied the Epic maintenance update that was just released. Today I was in the car when I received a call. Previously, my car would just show the phone number because it couldn't read the phone book on the phone, but today it showed the name and phone number. So I went into the "handset phonebook" option on my car, and it was able to see all of my Exchange contacts in the phone, something that I wasn't able to do previously.
It appears that this might've been addressed with the latest update, although the release notes (as far as I know) don't make any mention of it.
This happened to me the first time I synced my phone to a 2009 Mini Cooper S Works (similar to the BMW systems). All I got was "My Info". I was bummed out about it, since I'm in the market for a new car soon and I really liked the Cooper. I paired it to my girlfriend's VW Tiguan. Synced fast and easy and everything worked perfectly. So I was thinking, OK, stuck with a GTI then. Out of curiostity, I tried syncing it again to the Mini, and voila! Everything worked perfectly. It wasn't fixed by the DI07 update, this worked before I installed the update.
To all those having this issue, try syncing again. There wasn't anything that popped up on the phone or anything. I literally changed nothing, just retried it and it worked.
I solved Samsung Xcover (S5690, Android 2.3.6) connection to a carkit on Renault Laguna 3.
Steps used:
1. I root phone;
2. I used ES File Explorer to access system files. In ES File Explorer settings I give root privileges.
3. I installed from Google Play program “Mount / system (rw / ro)” (free).
4. I run Mount/system (rw / ro) and I enabled "mount r/w". He is active several seconds, so it goes quickly to ES File Explorer.
5. I open ES File Explorer: --- / system / app /. I look for Bluetooth.apk and I renamed to bluetooth.apk.bak.
6. File bluetoothpbap ...... . apk does not start at all.
The biggest surprise was that the car recognizes the phone, contacts, media, everything.
I hope to work on other samsung phones (I think it's a general problem).

Desire bluetooth not working with BMW

My girlfriend and I both have HTC Desires (one unbranded and one Vodafone). We recently got a 2005 BMW 5 series with the I-Drive Pro Nav system in it.
When I try to use BT to connect to the car, I can manage to pair them, but when the phone goes to connect to the car, it only connects for a few seconds and then disconnects. It then connects again and the whole thing repeats. The disconnect is frequent enough (every few seconds) to render the whole thing unusable. It also means that it isn't connected long enough to transfer the phone book.
Both our Desire's have this problem (they have different firmwares). I thought that maybe it was the car, but I put my SIM into my old Xperia X1 and it worked flawlessly with the car.
Is there a setting on the phone that needs adjusting or is it a firmware problem? I hear other people with the same car having no problems with the Desire. I've also used my Desire in a Toyota Avensis and a Vauxhall Insignia with no problems.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi,
I know there are some issues when it comes to Bluetooth and Android, and especially car kits.
Ref (sound quality): http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9888
Ref (disconnections): http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=5452
This is supposed to be a fix (I did not get it to work properly): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731626
I know that Cyanogenmod has made some changes to their kernel in 6.1 that adresses audio quality (bitpool increased), and I also think that the disconnection is adressed. I'm actually testing it for the moment (6.1RC2).
Thanks very much for your reply - very useful. The link to disconnections that you gave shows someone else with the same car as us (slightly different model) with the same issue.
It's very strange as there are people reporting no problems at all with that car/phone combination.
Unfortunately, I can't try the suggested fix as I don't want to start mucking around with my ROM.
I have a problem with my Volvo and the Desire. No disconnections, but I can't get into the phonebook, using PBAP.
Flashing a MIUI Rom works charming for the bluetooth connectivity, however I'm missing my SenseUI.
Just hoping, praying, some def will include the AOSP bluetoothstack in a SenseUI-Rom
BMW Software update
Hi
I´d try contacting your local BMW workshop, to let them do a reading on your car to establish which software version your car have.
If it´s a rather old software version your car have, I´d suggest that you have it updated.
The software update might be the answer to your problems, and can also explain why other users with the same car don´t have this issue (they might have a newer software version than you).
Remember, this phone is way newer than the car, and also the software in it.
I´d give it a try
PS: Be advised. Updating from very old software to new software might cause "in car-hardware" compatibility issues, and demand new hardware in the car (computer modules ect.), so make sure you talk over which consequences the update could have for your specific car before the update is carried out
Cheers
-Buggi- (BMW workshop foreman in Denmark)
Thanks for that advice. I'll talk to the dealership and see about software upgrades. Fingers crossed!
I have a 2008 530i and my Desire (and my other halfs) work fine, so hopefully there is some newer firmware for yours. They facelifted the cars and slightly changed the iDrive in 2007 though so fingers crossed there is an update that fixes the pre-LCI models with a Desire.
Just for reference, this is sorted out now.
My I-Drive actually broke and I had a whole new unit put in (under warranty thankfully!). Since they were doing that, I begged them for the latest software, not just for the Bluetooth module, but for the system as a whole.
Since the software upgrade, the phone stays connected and everything works great.
The only fly in the ointment is that it seems that for some reason, not all numbers of contacts (or all contacts) make it into the car's phone book (most of them do).
Anyway, for anyone else having this issue, get BMW to upgrade your BT software (or the whole system if you're brave).
I have similar problem when i try to pair the phone with volkswagen tiguan 2010, it says "your phone in not supported"

[Q] Problems Pairing new SGS2E4GT Phonebook with Car Bluetooth??

Okay so, I have read a couple of threads that somewhat touch base on my issue, however are not specific to my phone so I thought I would drill down to the subject matter in a new thread.
I just got a new SGS2E4GT yesterday as a replacement for my EVO4G. So far I love it, however when I paired it into my vehicle's (2011 Hyundai Elantra) bluetooth system, It connected to phone & media with no problem, but did not download the contact book.
Is there a fix, setting, or something I am missing within the SGS24E4GT?
I guess the thing that is a bit perturbing to me is that my good ol EVO had no issues whatsoever with pairing up.....
One option you might try is to remove pairing from both devices.
Then try to re-pair them.
I have a parrot CK-3100 BT setup in my truck and the first pairing didnt go well.
Removed it and re-did it. It asked me to allow access to my phone book. It was an option i had to check and after that its worked every time.
Also, check with the vehicle manufacturer and see if any software updates are available for your BT device in your vehicle.
It might not be an issue with the Epic Tocuch but with the other device playing nicely with the Touch.
Thanks very much. Will do as soon as I get out of work tonight

[Q] Intermittent issue connecting to car via Bluetooth

I have a new Note 4 (Verizon) and a 2011 Kia Soul. Prior to the Note 4 I had a Note 2 (Verizon) that I paired with my car for the last 2 years without issue. I am able to successfully pair the Note 4 and the car and use all of the Bluetooth functions I would expect to work. The problem is, often (not 100% of the time), the next time I try to connect the phone to the car that connection fails. I then have to unpair and re-pair them to get them to connect. Neither side gives me anything useful in the way of error messages.
I'm at a loss as to how to troubleshoot this further. Is there a way to pull Bluetooth connection logs out of the phone?
I have the same issue, but worse. I have a 2011 KIA Sorento, and a Samsung Note 4. The Bluetooth connectivity is very intermittent. One minute is works and then stops. One minute it plays music fine and all of a sudden, the music will start going in and out, like a bad cellphone call and then disconnect. I try to reconnect and it won't. I've gotten in the car and it works great and the next time it works like crap! I've been on a cell call, talking through Bluetooth and it will automatically disconnect, but still shows connected. I have to switch to speakerphone to talk and then it all of a sudden reconnects back to Bluetooth. Does anyone know if this is a known Samsung issue? I saw a previous post from Dec 2014 which stated, " Apparently, the Note 4 and Edge all use the newest AVCRP 1.5, which nobody else uses yet. Nissan told me that they were told by Samsung, that in their next update, they're going to revert the phones back to AVCRP 1.3, which is the standard in the industry." Has this occurred?
I had the same kind of problems with my Galaxy S 6 on my 2013 F150 with Sync. I was only able to fix it by getting rid of the S6. The Note4 I had before (on 4.4.whatever) and the Note4 I have now (on 5.0.1) have no issues.
