Are there any digitizer problems? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

I am very interested in the galaxy note 8.0 and I know there have been digitizer problems with some of samsungs tablets such as when you move your finger slowly in a straight diagnol line the resulting line would be wavy (check attached picture).Since I want this tablet for art purposes I was wondering if the note 8.0 had similar issues.

Really slowly

Thank you so much! That looks great compared to Samsung's older tablets! Does anyone know why Samsung's tablets had this problem?

I gathered it was just the original note that wasnt that great. They have improved slightly with every subsiquent release but the jump from note to note 2 was a big one in terms of accuracy and sensitivity.

On the ASUS TF201 / Transformer Prime I think it had to do with the hardware and the tuning of the touch screen. On that tablet, you couldn't make a straight diagonal line because the screen was such crap.

Google it.. you'll find it. People in this forum are supposed to use galaxy note 2, not its alternatives or vs... something, so its hard to get a best answer here.
I don't think its good idea to create a thread to ask these kind of questions.
Thank you.

Get the Note 2 you won't regret it...even after 2months of using it I still get amazed at this device.
Sent from the Rabbit Hole
Id say Note 2...I came from a nexus 4 which was great but the Note 2 is elite....or the best I should say!!!!
LG Nexus 4
-Pros; Vanilla Android, faster GPU&CPU, more developers friendly (it doesn't need to be actually)
-Cons; worse screen, sound, battery life, heating issues, cracking glass, unable to use the real power of the GPU&CPU(still higher on the GPU side than Note 2) , LG is untrustable even with Google behind them. Samsung may be messing things with their bad quality check but even they did not screw up on a Nexus device. No FM radio, no greater memory than 16Gb, very small and developer un-friendly resolutioned screen size.
Sony Xperia Z
Pros; Perfect screen, water and dust resistant body, superb camera (doubt that since its 1080p outdoor shooting was only 6000Kbps), thinnest body, Sony is so trustable about making non-breaking (not pysically) phones. Sony is so developer friendly, this thing can change a ultimate Newer Nexus device with the right support.
Cons; relatively smaller battery and S4 Pro is battery hungry we all know, screen is only super when looking at a certain angle, other than that it is color shifting, Sony is known for slow updates if you want to stick with stock ROMs, 5"screens real usable area is smallerr due to the onscreen buttons (actually I love them but they would be better on a bigger screen).
HTC Droid DNA
Pros; Reflection proof, super bright, outdoor visible screen, 5" is the real estate of it. And black&red are very good together, design is attractive.
Cons; only for US market, Butterfly variant is als available only for a few ****ries, HTC is developer enemy, barrery life is no comparison with Note 2, no SDcard option.
Other than my 2 concerns about Note 2s are either going to die from SDS or be outdated due to their GPU's bottleneck, our devices have no competitor and awesome. And let's not forget there is a risk that Samsung may forget Note 2s and S3s completely once the S4 and Note 3 are out. They may even pretend like they are not existed

[Q] any other phones with active digitizers?

I was thinking about getting a Note II because of its active digitizer but just wanted to make sure there were no other options before I went ahead and purchased. Getting a phone with an active digitizer is a must for me. Are there any other phones that have it?
All other phones and tablets and phablets in the note series. I dont think there are any with digitisers worthy enough to consider

Note II is the best option from all of them IMO.

There are plenty but I think the Note 2 is the only one where you get a combination of a digitizer and an amoled screen with a decent resolution. I would've gone for the note 8.0 if it weren't for the crappy resolution and plain LCD display.

Oh never realized that 8.0 was LCD. And Mega is LCD too? Makes sense, given the cheaper price range and all that.

A galaxy tab keyboard like the asus keyboard

Hi there guys i was going through the thread about the samsung galaxy tab series not having a keyboard and how samsung has withdrawn their keyboard dock. So now i am working on a project to get produce something similar to that for the samsung galaxy tab series.
I want to know your opinions, lets make this come to life not just some thing we want and cant have :good::good:
I took some time to create a mock up which didn't charge my device but totally working and comes with 2 otg USB port.
Needs a track pad.

That will be implemented in the end product .
Will the keyboard also be able to incline tablet at different angles? And close perfectly like a asus combo does?
If u can make it.. I promise to buy it.
Thanks for taking the initiative.

Thanks i will try and make it cant say the cost price but looking at about 100-120 pound.
it will, also thinking of implementing a rotating hinge like that in the hp touch smart laptops for the galaxy note version.
And i also noticed the different samsung tablets 10.1 has varying dimensions have to get a standard dimension to meet them all
And taking up a notch a illuminated keyboard. How cool will that be
Would it be possible to have an integrated battery also?
Regards
Jack

Yes it will have a battery of its own.
more of the same
I've returned two keyboards for my Note in the past week and they had similar "flaws" :
- When the tablet is on the keyboard, the charging cable can't be in place so you can't charge the tablet.
- One of the reasons I got the Note was because I use handwritten notes for my meetings throughout the day - the keyboard has to get comfortably out of the way when I want to write on the table.
- The tablet's 30 pin port needs to be accessible when the keyboard/case is closed.
Almost all of that is satisfied by mimicking the Asus design for the Transformer series, except for the keyboard getting out of the way for handwriting. A Swivel hinge like on the Thinkpad Twist would solve this
That aside, you're on the right track. The features I miss most from the Transformer pad is how it folds shut so neatly, charges the tablet and runs off of its own power. Also it looks damn sexy.
Good luck with your build and I can't wait to see what you accomplish.
A keyboard that has illuminated lights, has a built in battery, HDMI and USB support needed. Ethernet port if possible
As long as it closes the lid as well like a laptop.
Then yeah that would be cool, wouldn't mind paying a bit more for those.
I hope the 100-120 pounds includes international shipping
Also, if you can create TPU keyboard protectors for it then that'd be awesome (unlike those cheap silicon ones)
Subscribed. Been looking for this exact concept for my 10.1.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
Subscribing to this for sure.

Keep it up!
I would love to have one of those!
Please do not make compromises in quality!
I could life without trackpad, if the keyboard is of decent quality (i.e. Logitech/Zagg Keyboard stand or Samsung Keyboard folio for the Tab10.1N)
The rotation feature would be awesome too!
Looking at the whole dev in Linux ports lately your keyboard will get a sales hit, as it would turn our tab in a kind of convertible ultrabook!
It's a great idea. If you get it, i will be a future owner.
Same here

You're saying that you're product would be for the Galaxy Tab series. I am a new Note 10.1 owner and haven't done a lot of reading but it's my impression that the design of the tab vs the note would make this product incompatible. Is this not the case?

Welcome to the Note 10.1 club. When i say galaxy tab i mean the 10.1 tablets and the note 10.1 is part of that family. They share thesame connector (30pin) thereby making it compatible with samsung and other upcoming tablets

Thanks for the response. Good info. I guess the only concern would be that it would fit the dimensions as I've read that there are variations. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

[Q] Is SGN-II worth buying?

Sup guys.
I'd like to ask owners of SGN-II - do you guys think this mobile is worth buying now, some months before release of SGN-III? It - presumably - will have better hardware and bigger screen, but would it really matter?
I'd also like to ask if somebody uses SGN-II on a regular basis to take notes and stuff - I'm planning it to use as a student (Bc.) instead of "old" paper notebook and wonder if it's screen going to be sufficient for that.
Cheers.
If you wait for the note 3 you might as well wait for the note 4. The s-pen works really well for taking quick notes but the screen may be a bit small for your needs. Have you looked at the note 8.0? The note 8.0 would be a lot better for taking long notes, IMO.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Imo the note2 would be too small for your needs. I have note2 which is an awesome smart phone but I wouldn't use as a educational tool, I also have the note 10.1 which given the extra screen space is a much better option.
I also recently sold the galaxy tab 7.7 which I loved and only sold as I realised my note 2 is JUST large enough to make a small tab unnecessary, so now I use the note 2 while out and about and the 10.1 while at home. Just my opinion.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
As someone who's got all three of the current Galaxy Note range, I'd say the Note 8.0 would be best for your needs. The screen on the Note 10.1 looks like fuzzy garbage and it's a bit too heavy to use comfortably as a paper notebook replacement. The Note 2 is ok for quick notes but not suitable for use of any duration. Note 8.0 is the sweet spot, both portable and practical. Battery life isn't the best but it will get you through a full 8 hour day.

Thank you for your suggestions guys, I'll take a look at Note 8, however I really liked AMOLED screen on SGN-II, looks so... vivid and bright after my Desire S, lol.
Y'all may think I'm crazy, but I went to the AT&T store last night to look at the LG Optimus G Pro and compare the screen with my Note 2. As far as resolution goes, I couldn't tell the difference and my daughter agreed with me. Maybe if you hold the phones 5 inches from your face you would see the big difference that everyone is talking about. The only thing that looked a little better to me were the whites. The speed I've been hearing so much about, well my note 2 was just as fast at scrolling, loading apps and browsing the web. Maybe its the rom and kernel I'm using (Hawkish rom and Perseus kernel). I'm glad I went and looked at the LG because I was jealous of the 1080p screen that I've been hearing so much about, but no more. The Note 2 is a fantastic device with a nice screen and a tone of features. The development is outstanding as well with the Note 2. We have a lot of very talented devs.

Some suggestions were made about getting a note 8 but you could also consider getting a Bluetooth keyboard to type with the gnote2. Take the nerd factor to the next level.

Hi,
Simple answer. Yes.
I am a student but I make my notes old skool with pen and paper. The Note II is fast and smooth enough. After 2 or 3 years I will buy the Note 5 or 6.

Please tell me your experiences come to s4 from.note 2
Yep! Just got the S4 earlier today. The display is wayyy better. And I love the fact that I can text with one hand. Still learning all the features but overall I'm happy with the S4. Build quality seems better. Note 2 felt cheap to me.

I currently use the s4 AND the galaxy note 2. The s4 is an AWESOME device that can hold it's own weight BUT the battery life doesn't compare to the note 2 and that .5 inch screen difference is MAJOR! Although, I must say the s4's 1080p hd screen is beautiful!
I also went ot S4 from N2
My only complain with the Note II was when i was on the train and holding on to something it was difficult to one handed use the phone other wise I loved the device. The screen resolution on the S4 is a huge improvement. I do miss the screen size on my Note II. Would love to get the Note III but I hear that its getting even bigger and I just cant handle any bigger then what it is already. For travel I could not beat the Note II for watching videos on planes or in hotel. for map navigation it was awesome.

I had my n2 for the longest time. then i got s4 when it just came out. didn't really like it since there was not that many roms/mods at first. so i ended up giving it to my first s4 to my wife and keeping my n2. but development for s4 has gone a long way that i sold my n2 and now have two s4.... :victory:
pros s4:
smaller size for better handling
1080p
13mp cam
ir blaster
pros n2
large screen.
large battery
stylus
I have gone S3 > Note II > back to the S3 > S4
I sold off the Note II bc I really never found a use for the pen. Loved the BIG screen and did not mind the BIG phone. Sold it while I could still get what I paid for it and tucked away the cash in anticipation of the S4 release. Scored my S4 off Craigslist and have been very happy with it. I had the Samsung flip cover on my S3 and love the new functionality of the S-view cover for the S4. The bigger S4 screen is nice. As others have said the smaller phone size vs the N2 is a pro. And the new screen resolution is awesome. IMHO - if you use the S-pen a lot stick with your N2. If not go S4

I dont ever use the spen
2 words.
Chaos Rings 2.
I purchased this game in the Play Store while I had my Note 2.
Didn't work.
Now with my S4, works perfectly.
Earlier today, I switched from Sprint to T Mobile (Excellent decision) and in turn, purchased the S4.
Gotta say, I miss my giant screen, but specs make up for that!
Awesome device.
I had the note 2. I do miss the size but this s4 seems so much better. Another thing I miss is s note. I cant edit any of my s notes on this phone and I dont think theres a way for s note to work on this phone. But other than those 2 things this is an amazing phone.
