[Q] Phone only boots up locked (not relocked) bootloader - HTC One X

After having a lot of problems with crashing apps (possibly due to corrupt storage hardware) I did one last attempt to fix it before trying to claim warranty. I installed RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.14.401.31_R_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_302015_signed.exe. It failed, but somehow magically locked my bootloader again. It is now locked, not relocked. I'm stuck with a phone that will only boot to bootloader, and it won't unlock again even though I do get the unlock screen where you have to choose yes or no. It will always stay locked, so I guess this is a brick? Anything I can do but claim warranty?

Without an unlocked bootloader you can't do anything except performing a factory reset from the bootloader.
Was the ruu even ment for you ? Does it match the outcome of
Fastboot getvar version-main

Yes it is, I've used the same RUU a week prior. Factory reset does nothing now, so I can only claim warranty at this point? I guess I will have to buy a new phone, since Dynafix (repair center) always claims "water damage" no matter what. I will still give it a try though.

Yep when the bootloader is locked and you can't get it unlocked , the ruu is your only chance.
Otherwise its warranty.....so its a company who makes money with stating all phones have water damage ?!

Basically yes. Not 100%, but a lot. They have been called out on a tv show, but they aren't showing much progression. Anyway, I was on hboot 1.31 and the RUU updated it to 1.39. I think that's why it doesn't work anymore now.

Well if the ruu did run succesfully it should boot fine. Must be a hardware failure/brick somehow

I mean the RUU updated my hboot about a week ago. This time it didn't run successfully. It is also very strange that my bootloader is locked again, instead of relocked.

Yep, what some people reported in the past is that they did all this on a completely different pc.....try it. No harm can be done anymore

Unfortunately I still get bootloader version error. Thanks for your help.

Then its off for repair

Even i had a similar problem with regular crashing apps. and by regular i mean EVERY SINGLE app i opened FCd. Then the com.google.something fcd and phone would restart. Even get stuck in APX mode occasioanlly, and it all happened after i upgraded my HBOOT 1.39. Anyhow i managed to wipe my phone, install stock ROM, and relock my bootloader. Never got the "LOCKED" thing though, only "RELOCKED". Thats what i was worried that i might not get warranty. But fortunately/unfortanately, the HOX went into APX mode again, never to get out, so i gave it for repair, and turns out the service center could NOT get the phone to turn on and found the motherboard was screwed. I found another couple of users on the HOX forums whose phones got bricked and APXed after HBOOT upgrade.
ANYHOW, Service Center gave me a refurbished phone (after a month -_- ) So all good for now. My advice is Service Center.

Damaged Evo to be RMA'd to HTC S-Off Question

Ok, you can get into BL, flash roms, but no recovery and the phone doesnt boot, basicly a boot loop. Now if i RMA this phone and they go into bootloader and see the S-Off flag, will this more than likely void my warrenty or would they have any clue about this? If so, i guess i could flash a radio and pull the battery during the flash to ensure they cant read that lol.
Any help/info is appreciated, thanks
K, guess no one has a answer for wether or not HTC Service & Repair center will know what S-Off means if they put my phone in bootloader when i send them back a phone that wont boot so i cant reverse the unrevoked forever as far as i know, if im wrong, maybe someone can correct me. Would hate to have them not warrenty the phone due to being able to see the S-Off flag in bootloader.
I guess i could brick it bad enough they cant get into bootloader, just was hoping for some feedback so i didnt have to damage the phone more than it already is lol.

There is an S-ON tool on the Unrevoked Forever page. You can use that.
If you used Toast's method, all you have to do is get back to a SHIP bootloader. You can do that easily by running an RUU.

Your phone boots -> it is not bricked. Don't RMA it until you try to resolve the problem.
To answer your question.....yes if they figure out you put unapproved firmware on the phone they do have the right to void your warranty..yes its legal now but htc or sprint can choose to void..that being said like jerryparid mentioned if it boots its not bricked so try to fix, do some searching you might just find an answer that helps.....also I'd get your flame suit on because it might get hot in here.

He's right. If your phone boots at all, even if it's just into the bootloader then it is fixable.
There may be better ways of doing it but I would suggest you download the ENG HBOOT from toasts rooting part 2 thread, put it on the root of your sdcard and boot into your bootloader and just let it run. You'll have to set everything back up, including updating your recovery image but at this point there is no reason to have it replaced just yet.
Let us know how it goes, if you need any help bringing your phone back to life we're here for ya!

Ok let me try and clarify this...
I can get into bootloader, i can flash a rom, radio, hell even RUU from PC, all complete 100%, can not get into recovery, even if i flash a recovery image. The phone DOES NOT BOOT, starts at white HTC start up screen, stay on for about 4 seconds, reboots. You can clear storage, reload roms, radios, none of that gets the phone to boot or do anything other than reboot every 4 seconds.
So nothing i can think of will fix this, ive tried roms loaded via SD card, via RUU from PC when phones in bootloader, reflashing radios, reflashing recovery, nothing works. Phone continuesly reboots after first 4 seconds of being powered on. Never boots past HTC screen. I guess i should just try and brick it 100% so they cant get into boot loader and see the S-Off flag.
Damn phones.. lol...
** EDIT **
In short i guess basicly all im saying in the above, is ive tried everything already mentioned so far prior to my post and none of that did jack squat for me... lol.
How are you flashing roms from the bootloader?
And if you cant get into recovery how are you "clearing storage"?
No offense, I understand your frustration but I have to think you're not doing something right.. You'd be the first (not saying it's impossible) person to have a phone that gets into the bootloader but is not fixable..

Ok, yet again, a clarification, i cant get into a Custom Recovery, power+vol down, all that works fine, can flash rom (load the zip on the sd card, detects, lets you flash via zip) or via RUU in windows this method, now if you scroll down to "recovery" on the menu and click on it, it starts to load then phone reboots and back to square one. Sorry if my hboot/bootloader/recovery understandings are slightly off or differ from anyone elses.
** EDIT **
Ill see if i can make a youtube video with my crappy webcam here in a bit and upload it and maybe that will make it easier to understand whats going on. I had also taken it to a sprint repair center and they couldnt figure it out themselfs lol. So if i can fix it myself, im going to get it to HTC before i my luck runs out some how and they wont fix it lol. THanks for the help guys, i appreciate the replys and help so far!

[Q] unroot hox for warranty

i'm one of the lucky guys with 3 failures at his phone at the same time:
1. yellow spot
2. wifi/bluetooth
3. flickering screen when grey
so i need to return my phone for a fix but it's rooted. At first followed more guides here. very usefull but i can't find my right RUU!
The phone was bought in the netherlands but it came with a Orange UK [branded] rom.

Total recovery - flashing a RUU to completely restore your phone
If all else fails, this is your last resort.
This process will erase all your data, INCLUDING potentially your /sdcard partition (phone storage). But hey, beats having a dead phone, right?
First, ensure you have enough battery (more than 30%) to run an RUU.
Next, boot your phone into fastboot bootloader and open a command prompt window on your computer in the platform-tools folder.
Use the command:
fastboot getvar version-main
You now need to find the RUU that corresponds to this version. Start here. If you have problems visit #htc-one-x on freenode.
Now you must re-lock the bootloader using:
fastboot oem lock
It won't hurt to use the clear cache command as well
fastboot erase cache
Finally, run the RUU.exe that you have downloaded (must be used in Windows, and requires HTC drivers, which will have been installed whilst using HTCDev to unlock your phone).
This will write the /recovery, /boot, and /system to stock. You will need to start from scratch to unlock.

when i type getvar version-main i get: 1.28.061.9 but i can't find the rom anywhere on the internet.
can somebody help me to get a RUU that works on my phone? or a guide so i can run another RUU that will work.
[sorry for my english, not my native language]
Even if you run RUU, HTC will still be able to see that your bootloader has been unlocked.
Relocking your bootloader using fastboot oem lock will only relock it, not undone the original unlock.

Yes, but this is a hardware issue, that has nothing to do with the ROMs and stuf.. I believe you can claim warranty. If not, fight with them, as this SHOULD be covered, as its not covered under warranty.
If you cant find the RUU, ask awesome devs like mike1986 for help, he might be able to help.

HTC will honor any hardware issues providing you take the following steps prior to sending it back.
1: Relock your bootloader (fastboot oem lock)
2: Run the Orange UK RUU (http://www.filefactory.com/file/qwm...Radio_1.1204.103.14_release_256475_signed.exe)
3: When booking in the device for repair don't mention that you have unlocked. Let them figure it out for themselves and if they have an issue with it they will contact you.
ive tried the uk RUU but is was a different 1.26 version. after a few hours trying i got it worked by extracting the ruu and manually flash system.img and boot_signed.img from the quide of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25080910&postcount=1
tomorrow it will be send to HTC but i didnt mention the unlocked bootloader. my opinion is also that is is a hardware issue that was recognized by HTC.. hoping that the reapir company wont take a good look.
i send my phone for repair because right top corner was creaking when i pressed it. and i have custom rom on it. so i relocked bootloader, flashed original ruu and send it for repair. aftera freaking ONE MONTH of waiting i got my phone, they replace bazel(as I understood it was all back, phone corpus). on the warranty card they wrote, "bootloader unlocked, only mechanical issues can be repaired under warranty." So I think that all of us who have any problem with HARDWARE should send phone and get what they worth for such many $. Am I right? But this is not the end. After 4days(it's today) I saw that frame which is around the glass, from the right side is broken, and left side where is usb charging is creaking when i press it. So tomorrow my phone is going back for repair. And from 1.5 month I used it only 14days, i think this phone is not lucky. But i will fight till i get phone what i payed for.
ps. sorry for my english.
Well you don't exactly have software problems so relocking should not br an ossue as stated

Just contact HTC and tell them to ship you another phone.
but you do have SUPER CID...so lucky in some ways.
and since u do get signals sometime, maybe its a radio issue, try flashing a rom and radio. Should be easy since ur bootloader is unlocked already.
Just flash cwm recovery, the boot.img of a rom, and the rom itself. I recommend VIPERX.

[Q] Bootloop on Locked BootLoader with S-ON

Dear Community
I have problem with my HTC one M8 from Vodafone. One day it just get stuck at bootscreen (HTC ONE). I rebooted my phone with power button and volume plus/minus. Then I used HBOOT to factory reset the phone. It worked. My phone starts normal and I set basic settings. After reboot I get another bootloop/stuck at boot screen.
The phone has LOCKED BootLoader and is S-ON.
Software status: Official
HBOOT 3.19
firmware: 4.19.161.2

Only things that might break your warranty, so i won't advise to do so. If your warranty effort fails then we can take a step further here.

Why won't they? If you've not tampered with the software and it's a hardware fault they're obliged to repair/replace it under the terms of the Warranty. Or get in touch with Vodafone as it's running their software so they should also be able to help

Help needed - stuck in bootloader

Ok, I know this has been discussed already here, but I feel like my situation is different. I bought this phone dirt cheap, but it's only booting to the bootloader. It says software status modified, s-on and locked, and sometimes a security warning. The phone was never rooted or modified in any way. Recovery not working, download mode not working, fastboot oem rebootRUU also not working... Getvar gives me nothing i can use. The only thing i managed to do is to flash hosd, but it hasn't fixed my problem. Ruu exe also doesn't work because I can't charge the phone to 30%. Is there any way I can unlock the bootloader... Or maybe install a custom recovery... Or a way to get the phone back up and running. Help please!
There's nothing you can do. The emmc died (aka the infamous nand death). Without a working download mode you can't re-flash anything. (Not to mention that you can't fix a hardware issue by software re-flashing.)
Why did you think your situation would be different, though? A (relatively common) hardware problem caused by the heat of the Snapdragon 810 is in no way related with rooting the phone or flashing a custom rom.
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Labs
Because the guy I bought it from says that it's been like that since a failed software update, and I thought it had nothing to do with the heat. Anyways, would you think that it's a good idea to buy another motherboard and swap it out? Is it worth it?
I personally wouldn't want to invest the needed time and money but that's due to the fact that my M9 is over three years old and that it fulfilled it's duty. I don't know how much replacement parts for this phone cost, though.
Well, I haven't heard about this combination of symptoms in regard with a failed software update, yet. (That doesn't mean that I couldn't be wrong, though. However, a software based problem should be fixable by flashing the hosd.img for restoring the download mode and flashing a RUU, afterwards.) On the other hand, what you described matches exactly the symptoms of a dead nand.

R u able to access download mode
Send the photos of the menus just to get better idea
No download mode = dead phone. Emmc death for whatever reason. If it wasn't heat related it was flashed bad. Locked out and paperweight.
