Ok, you can get into BL, flash roms, but no recovery and the phone doesnt boot, basicly a boot loop. Now if i RMA this phone and they go into bootloader and see the S-Off flag, will this more than likely void my warrenty or would they have any clue about this? If so, i guess i could flash a radio and pull the battery during the flash to ensure they cant read that lol.
Any help/info is appreciated, thanks
K, guess no one has a answer for wether or not HTC Service & Repair center will know what S-Off means if they put my phone in bootloader when i send them back a phone that wont boot so i cant reverse the unrevoked forever as far as i know, if im wrong, maybe someone can correct me. Would hate to have them not warrenty the phone due to being able to see the S-Off flag in bootloader.
I guess i could brick it bad enough they cant get into bootloader, just was hoping for some feedback so i didnt have to damage the phone more than it already is lol.

There is an S-ON tool on the Unrevoked Forever page. You can use that.
If you used Toast's method, all you have to do is get back to a SHIP bootloader. You can do that easily by running an RUU.

Your phone boots -> it is not bricked. Don't RMA it until you try to resolve the problem.
To answer your question.....yes if they figure out you put unapproved firmware on the phone they do have the right to void your warranty..yes its legal now but htc or sprint can choose to void..that being said like jerryparid mentioned if it boots its not bricked so try to fix, do some searching you might just find an answer that helps.....also I'd get your flame suit on because it might get hot in here.

He's right. If your phone boots at all, even if it's just into the bootloader then it is fixable.
There may be better ways of doing it but I would suggest you download the ENG HBOOT from toasts rooting part 2 thread, put it on the root of your sdcard and boot into your bootloader and just let it run. You'll have to set everything back up, including updating your recovery image but at this point there is no reason to have it replaced just yet.
Let us know how it goes, if you need any help bringing your phone back to life we're here for ya!

Ok let me try and clarify this...
I can get into bootloader, i can flash a rom, radio, hell even RUU from PC, all complete 100%, can not get into recovery, even if i flash a recovery image. The phone DOES NOT BOOT, starts at white HTC start up screen, stay on for about 4 seconds, reboots. You can clear storage, reload roms, radios, none of that gets the phone to boot or do anything other than reboot every 4 seconds.
So nothing i can think of will fix this, ive tried roms loaded via SD card, via RUU from PC when phones in bootloader, reflashing radios, reflashing recovery, nothing works. Phone continuesly reboots after first 4 seconds of being powered on. Never boots past HTC screen. I guess i should just try and brick it 100% so they cant get into boot loader and see the S-Off flag.
Damn phones.. lol...
** EDIT **
In short i guess basicly all im saying in the above, is ive tried everything already mentioned so far prior to my post and none of that did jack squat for me... lol.
How are you flashing roms from the bootloader?
And if you cant get into recovery how are you "clearing storage"?
No offense, I understand your frustration but I have to think you're not doing something right.. You'd be the first (not saying it's impossible) person to have a phone that gets into the bootloader but is not fixable..

Ok, yet again, a clarification, i cant get into a Custom Recovery, power+vol down, all that works fine, can flash rom (load the zip on the sd card, detects, lets you flash via zip) or via RUU in windows this method, now if you scroll down to "recovery" on the menu and click on it, it starts to load then phone reboots and back to square one. Sorry if my hboot/bootloader/recovery understandings are slightly off or differ from anyone elses.
** EDIT **
Ill see if i can make a youtube video with my crappy webcam here in a bit and upload it and maybe that will make it easier to understand whats going on. I had also taken it to a sprint repair center and they couldnt figure it out themselfs lol. So if i can fix it myself, im going to get it to HTC before i my luck runs out some how and they wont fix it lol. THanks for the help guys, i appreciate the replys and help so far!

So today while following a tutorial, not sure which one. I managed to completely erase my system partition from my phone, leaving me without anything, including s-off. So now im stuck at S-ON, no system software, and no custom recovery. What gives? Is there anyway to put atleast SOME software on the phone. I'd love to use my EVO that i just purchased today, and spent countless hours trying to get permanent root. Even a stock ruu or something would be nice. Anything is appreciated. Thanks.
Try a stock ruu..

I've googled, tried the HTC site, somewhat searched xda, found a lot of rooted stock roms, could you point me in the direction of an ACTUAL stock ruu? My phone came with 2.2 and 2.02 bootloader, if that helps any.
https://bit.ly/f9Jx0f
Only has up to 3.30 though.
But I think thats the one that shipped on phones with that booloader version.
The RUU won't recognize my phone, but the software itself has a few typo's and asks for an adb device with an odd looking string after it. Would it be possible to find the update.zip from the ruu and install it using fastboot? because thats about the only thing that works on my phone.
You have bootloader right? How about this one?

Yes I have bootloader, call me ignorant, but what do I do with the zip files? I the exe link is broken, and i've never had to use the bootloader before, i came from an htc hero with a custom recovery.
Here's the RUU link posted by TMartin03: RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe

If you need to PC36IMG file, its located here in this post by TMartin03. I assume you would have to rename this to PC36IMG.zip for it to work in bootloader.
Fixed, flashed that pc36img file, THANK YOU!!!!!
Awesome...glad to help and hear that it worked out for you.

Pulling the battery, putting it back in, holding the power and vol down button simultaneously (dont release) doesn't get you to the bootloader?
Hi folks,
i´ve a problem with a Desire Z from a friend.
Every time when the phone boots, it stops at the HTC Logo.
I think it´s bricked
Is there any possible to flash the Rom (like Odin on Samsung Android Phones)
Thanks
If you power the phone off, then holding down the volume button, press the power button. Does the Hboot screen come up?
Also, you don't give a heck of a lot of info. Is the phone rooted, and/or S-Off? If not, then no, you can't flash a custom ROM.
But you may be able to flash the official ROM from Hboot.
the H Boot screen is this with "bootloader, reboot" and something with the 3 androids ?
when its that, i come into the hboot screen .. i did try the "factory reset" but it hangs on the 3 androids at the middle of the screen
EDIT: The Phone is not rooted, S-on stands there
but how can i flash a official ROM ?
i found one, but it recognize the phone
Since you are not rooted and S-On, you need to use the official ROM that matches your carrier ID (CID).
What ROM did you try?
If you want help, you need to supply as much information as possible. Not just "I tried a ROM".
Seeing as the phone is unrooted, it's unlikely that it's bricked from a user error.
At a guess, it's a Hardware issue, there's a thread here about it.
I had this same issue with my phone, it started freezing completely, and I had to do a battery pull to restart and it would just hang at the htc logo.
Seeing as you don't have clockwork mod though, you won't be able to see the Cache mounting errors, though you should be able to run the adb commands to find the name of your eMMC card if you have adb installed.

Its possible, but also highly speculative. Damage to the ROM, or the ROM missing may also cause the same issue (stuck on boot splash).

You're in (possibly) better shape then the OP. Try flashing any known good ROM from Hboot/recovery. Preferably a rooted ROM, if you want to stay rooted.
But its possible you may have something more going on than a bad ROM file, like mentioned in post #5 above.
i couldn´t find a tutorial how to flash the desire Z im H-Boot mode ?
can u give me a tutorial !?
I have a unique problem, and I think I will need someone with some patience to help if its even possible to get my phone back to stock. Recently my EVO screen backlight completely stopped working yet when I turn on the phone I know that it still boots up because i still get notification sounds and alarms and in direct sunlight i can still use the phone. My phone has a custom flash screen unrevoked, and it has an old stock rom 3.70 and hboot 2.10 with custom boot animation not to mention a custom kernal. What I need to know, is it possible to do a push or something to flash the radio to s-on and reset it all back to "stock"? I only have until 8-18-2011 to return my phone to sprint and to
get this done so please someone that knows what they are doing please reply. Thank you so much in advance. I have tried to flash the unrevoked s-on tool but it does not work with hboot 2.10 it seems and there must not be a recovery cause I get the triangle ! when i try to goto it. Please help!
Is your screen blank the entire time, from when you first turn on the phone? If so, then it is a hardware problem and I don't think Sprint will know the difference anyway until they've taken it apart and repaired it, and you'll have shiny new refurb by that time. But, still, if the phone really is booting up, it might be possible to run an RUU (the latest one) if you have usb debugging enabled already, or to flash a stock image. However, neither of those things will set the phone back to S-On. You would have to blindly go into the recovery and flash the S-On tool, which would be really hard. And I don't think it's necessary. I'll post some links to the RUU and/or PC36IMG instructions in a minute, but if you do some searching, you can find them.
Edit: Here's the link to a number of RUU's and PC36IMG files to flash back to stock. I would use the 3.70 version, because the 4.24 version installs an hboot which is locked down (although you would still have s-off). The RUU needs to be run with the HTC drivers installed, USB debugging on, and the phone actually booted up and running and connected to your computer. The PC36IMG file would need to be placed on the root of the SD card and named PC36IMG.zip. The bootloader would automatically recognize that file and after about 1-2 minutes of checking it, it would give you the option to hit volume-up to start the update (even though you can't see it). Good luck...

Yes the screen is just black when you turn it on, yet the phone will still vibrate and gives sound notifications of texts/email/alarms ect. I know the RUU will flash the rom back to stock but will flashing the latest RUU replace my kernal or is it possible to put that back to stock and what can i do about the splash screen/boot animation? Thank you for your time in this matter. I just want to do everything that is possible to get it back to stock before I send it off to avoid getting charged for my refurb.

I understand. I don't know all of that for sure, but I'm pretty sure the RUU will replace your ROM, splash screen/boot animation, radio, hboot, recovery, etc. It wipes everything out and sets it back to stock. I think the only thing it won't do is set it back to S-ON. If you know what kind of recovery you have and how to use it, you can try to blindly flash the S-On tool from Unrevoked.... But I really don't think Sprint will know the difference, or even care when your screen is totally shot.
Edit: If you really really want to try to flash the S-On tool, do that first before you run the RUU. It will wipe out your custom recovery.

Makes sense. I don't know of a video off hand but I bet it's out there. I'll help you look. The hardest part is going to be finding the s-on zip on the SD card blindly. I think you can name it "update.zip" and select the option "flash update.zip".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyulgnaVW_w
Not the best video, but I think it will show you how to get there. You would need to select "apply update from sd card" instead of choose zip from sd card like they did. Pay careful attention to the parts that say "no, no, no.... yes - .... no, no" I don't know for sure if it's the same on every phone and version . Hopefully it is. You might find a better video, but this is the best I can do for you.
I'm not 100% sure what happens after you press "apply update from sd card" I think it will give you the "no no no... yes... no no no" option again.
Actually, I just realized something. Since there are videos that show you specifically how to flash an arbitrarily named zip file. You could just wipe your SD card clean and put the zip on there so that it is the only thing on the card. That might work too...
So, that being said. Here's a much better video that will show you how to flash the S-On tool. Hope this works for you.

Right, as this is my first post i come here with major problem with my HOX (european version), after i updated my phone to the latest android 4.2.2 things suddenly went downhill - The phone is in pristine condition and nothing has been tampered with after i purchased it 9 months ago, but now it doesnt want to work when required, sometimes when i try to unlock it (something around 7-10times) the screen is stil black and i cannot do anything on it, the softkeys light up as normal but stil nothing happens, that forces me to reboot it completely (ive tried factory reseting a few times but that doesnt change anything) and sometimes the screen when im using it goes total tivoli on me, ive yet to send it in for service as it takes a whole century for the techies to even look at the phone and i need the phone for my daily work. Im not a avid programmer that wants to screw around with my phone so i got sent here by a friend to ask for help. Currently the problem seems to be the update that renders my phone useless.
If anyone can give me either pointers on how to do a complete wipe of the phone so i can either reinstall the software it came with or a fix for the 4.2 madness that has occured i would give you my kidney and babies.
Sincerly, pissed of guy that wants his phone to work.

SO here is the deal,
You'll most likely need to reinstall the ROM, and there are a couple of options...
First of all, make sure you have the international version, code-named endavorU and not the evita...
To do that you'll need to go into the bootloader. Power off the device, wait a couple of seconds, then hold the volume - and power button and don't let go until you are in the bootloader.
Now read the first line...
If you are endeavorU, than continue reading...
You can start by unlocking your bootlaoder with the official method (htcdev.com)
Once that is done download this all-in-one kit... For the HTC ONE X
Now you'll need to flash a custom recovery...
Go to the clockworkmod website and download their CWM Touch 5.4.8.0 recovery, and flash it using the kit.
Now boot into recovery (first into booloader, and then choose recovery) and do a factory reset and data wipe... also do a dalvik cache wipe in the advanced section and reboot... if it now works fine than good, if not, continue reading...
Now go into bootloader, and select fastboot...
go into the data folder of your aio kit and while holding shift right click on the empty space, and choose open with command prompt...
then type in
fastboot oem readcid
IF you have a WWE cid go here and download the odexed rom, recovery, and boot.img
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970
and flash them...
flash the odexed.zip with recovery,
and the two .img files using fastboot commands...
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot erase cache
you'll need to place both boot and recovery img into the data folder of the kit for it to work

On stock, there is not much beyond the factory reset that can be done from the user end.
Return it for repair! That's what the warranty is for, let HTC deal with it.
And DO NOT unlock the bootloader and flash anything because it does void the warranty and HTC are under no obligation to fix it.
Yes, sending it in is your best bet
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Thats what my conclusion was after doing some extensive googling, i dont want to tamper with stuff that might void my warranty. Thanks anyway.

Also I see there is no link to the All-in-one kit I mentioned so here it is: http://www.hasoon2000.info/getdownload.php?file=One X (International)/One_X_All-In-One_Kit_v2.5.rar
So I've been trying to root my dads old Desire for a while now, with no success - it is locked to o2 and I'm on Orange. I didn't really want to pay to unlock it, and rooting it would have been nice. I've done two phones before, so I figured it shouldn't be too bad. Eventually I discovered it was HBOOT 1.03, and this was the problem, so the solution was to backdate the software to an earlier version (the phone is still S-ON and I cannot get this thing to take ANYTHING)
I was trying to roll back from Froyo to 2.1.
The current problem is that now the phone will not boot. With a simple turn-on it just sits at the white HTC screen, or if you go into Hboot it tries (what I assume is) 'fastboot' and checks the PB99IMG.zip file on the SD card. If I say I don't want to update and go to 'recovery' it loads the screen with the exclamation mark in a triangle in it. The problem here is that pressing up+power does nothing. I've tried a quick press, and a long hold multiple times, and with no result except the first time. Unfortunately I didn't go through the proceedure the first time, assuming it'd work again. Damn!
If I start the update it says 'can not roll back the hboot version'. It also fails on the radio_v2.
Any help will be much appreciated, and if you need any details (I've probably missed something) please ask!
Thanks

If it fails with Radio_v2, then it's a radio brick, and that's the reason it won't boot. I'm afraid you can't do much, due to the hboot version.

I'm not too worried about getting a different rom on it, or rooting it or anything any more, currently I'd like to just put it back into a working state, as it was, probably locked to o2, if you've any suggestions on how to do that?

The one step here I'm halted by is producing a Goldcard - the link to the website on the tool doesn't work any more (I've scoured t'internet, and that's the general consensus). Any idea where else I can input the CID to get a Goldcard Image?
Also how do I run the RUU on my computer? What file is it in the HTC Desire Android Upgrade folder I need to run? Afterall, there's no file titled 'RUU.exe'
Thanks

Just realized that it wouldn't work, because you have to boot your phone for the downgrader tool.
You could try something else. Unlock your bootloader using the HTC Dev site :http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader, and then try installing a custom recovery.

I've unlocked the bootloader (although obviously I'm still S-ON and HBOOT 1.03), so how would I go about installing a custom recovery?
Everything I can find online implies I need to do it starting with the phone up and running...
Thanks

You download this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28277117
You extract the recovery.img from it.
You then use fastboot to flash it:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

That worked spot on! Have you got anything you'd recommend I put on there now? (factory reset didn't do anything, didn't really expect it to)
I tried cyangenmod7 for the desire, but with no luck. File 'BAD' or somethign when tried to read it from the SD card.

Try a MildWild ROM. Maybe the CM7 download was somehow faulty.
Can ya post the link to the thread and not just post the PB99IMG file? Thanks

You're getting good at this
So, that's on and working, but it's still locked to the carrier, o2. I've just tried 'HTC Desire unlock v0.9.5' but that didn't work (despite the program telling me it went flawlessly).
Any more suggestions?

Nope, nada. I tried v0.94 too. Nothing again. I guess I'll need to get a key. Damn that hboot 1.03!
At least the phone is actually WORKING now though, thanks to you, appreciated.
