Hi Bro, Now I'm in stock rom! I haven't got TWRP installer and 2nd Bootloader yet. I want to use USB-OTG and Data mobile network! How to install other rom and kernel (steps by steps) ! Please help me! Thanks in advance!
anyone who can help me? :fingers-crossed:
First off, only bump per 24 hours. Next is download these Unofficial CyanogenMod 10.1 for the Kindle Fire HD 8.9
BEFORE YOU BEGIN MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A 2ND-BOOTLOADER INSTALLED CORRECTLY AND CAN SEE THE BLUE LOGO DURING BOOTUP:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128175
Download the latest one (6/04)
http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/jem/cm10.1/
Download Google Apps:
Http://goo.im/gapps
(For Android 4.2.1/CM 10.1 use the top row gapps)
PLEASE BE SURE TO WIPE SYSTEM & DATA/CACHE (FACTORY RESET) WHEN COMING FROM AMAZON STOCK SOFTWARE.
(It's the "Wipe" button and then "System" and then "Factory Reset" button in TWRP -- this does NOT clear your sdcard space)

Many Thanks, Brandonrz. I'm using Data mobile network usually, so I need it working. You know, I read many threads in this forum, Data Mobile Network is not available on LTE 4G version (someone told that).
Btw, are you sure Data Mobile network working in Hashcode's Rom? thanks again!

Hello all,
I was looking through, the development section when I realized there was no thread about how to edit the build.prop file.
The build.prop file helps Google Play and other apps identify what device you have.
This guide will show how to edit the file to get maximum app availability. You can also edit the file in order to change the pixel density and there are quite a few other changes as well.
(Note: This does not work on the stock kindle fire rom)
The first thing you should do is backup the build.prop file to your enternal storage.
(The build.prop file is located in the folder)
Once you have made a backup, you are free to edit it.
Change the following lines to:
ro.product.model=GT-I9100
ro.product.brand=samsung
ro.product.name=GT-I9100
ro.product.device=GT-I9100
ro.product.board=GT-I9100
(a few more rows down)
ro.product.manufacturer:samsung
Save your changes, reboot your device and you will have access to the complete android market. Gameloft games that say, "Your device is not compatible with this, game please request a refund" will work. Please note that it could take up to an hour before Google starts to think that you have a GT-I9100.
Enjoy the full market experience right from Cm7-9,
Greg
Thanks. This is a great guide!
Just a warning though: Some games/apps really are incompatible even though they may show up.

This is true, but a majority of the games at least will work. It is more the Gameloft games that can start having problems.
Lemme throw this out there...
Many ROMs already have a device ID set. Currently on my gedeROM, I'm listed as a Galaxy Tab. Is the build.prop easy enough to change to any device? And could we take time to post in this thread, settings for other compatible devices? I do like my KF to be registered as a Kindle. And I would guess some device IDs offer benefits over others?

The steps that I just posted above will work on almost any device running a stock rom or a custom rom. For some reason, it just does not work on Kindle Fire stock rom. There are benefits to each device, some device's have similar hardware as others. But if you are looking for more apps, the Nexus devices have the best app availability. just as a random example, the GT-I9100 might have a more similar processor to the Kindle then a Galaxy Nexus.

Could someone please post the original build.prop settings before making these changes.I didn't save a copy of it before I changed them and my KF has been stuck in portrait mode for some reason ever since I did this several days ago. Unfourtunately it didn't yield any better results for me in the Google Play store anyway even though my KF is rooted with KFU and I use GoLauncher.Thanks guys :laugh:
Does this work for Jellybean ROMs? I followed this guide but my Kindle Fire wouldn't boot afterwards... I'm using twa_priv's CM10 rom

It should be fine as long as you don't change anything important.

What's an example of an app that doesn't show up using the default build.prop on my ROM?
I did this and after reboot everything seems fine except my brightness is stuck on high and nothing I've found will adjust it.
Any ideas?

Had the same problem, so i booted in to recovery and wiped dalvik and cache then rebooted system.
I follow all the steps and the result is that phone is booting but the screen is tatally in black. Already did Dalvik and chache wiping proces with no lucky results...
Any idea what else I could do...
I did it on a LG Hub...
Regards
Thank you for this.........thank you very much
Wouldnt it be better if the build.prop was of a Nexus 7
All u really need to change in the build.prop is two lines
ro.product.model=Kindle Fire(or whatever it is)
ro.product.brand=Amazon(whatever it may be)
To
ro.product.model=Nexus 7
ro.product.brand=google
BTW this will work on any ROM

Nevermind. didn't see the sticky.
how do I delete?
I have been having the same problem... and have been very fed up working on and off for a few months trying to fix this problem. My kindle boots into recovery mode no matter what bootmode i set it to using KFU 0.9.6. I have tried going into fastboot, restarting the device, then booting into normal mode, then it flashes on and of a few times, then boots into recovery(I have mostly been running TWRP 2.0.0 but have recently received TWRP 2.1.1). It seems as if i have tried every possible variable!!!!! It is very annoying and it would be extraordinarily appreciated if somebody can find an answer!!! Please help!!
PS I will gladly post additional information upon request
This belongs in questions and answers, but you can get rid of it by using kindle software update which also unroots the device.
I wish that it was true ("factory defaults")

Unfortunately, going back to "factory defaults" is a misnomer. It only replaces the rooting operation. The bootloader is not updated.

Hello all! This is my first time rooting and posting! I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676686 to root the phone, then after unlocking did a reset in recovery, did a full backup, and installed http://d-h.st/Wsy (cm9) as well as gapps ( http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip). After reboot everything runs great, but I have a wifi issue. When I swipe, it just says turning on wifi and hangs. Nothing ever happens. I checked advanced options, and the MAC address and IP address are "unavailable". It's under Virgin Mobile, currently I have no service active, so I use it as a media player. Can a brother get some help over here? Thank you kindly.

Thank you very much sir. I'll give that a shot and report back. Cheers.
Hi,
does anoybody know how to use CM11 as main os and Fire OS as second OS in Safestrap?
My acutal problem is that the Safestrap partition can't be bigger than 1,2GB while the flashable zip from ggow has some MB's more. Does anybody know a solution for this problem?
I'm sorry for spelling mistakes or wrong grammar
Thanks ^^
From what ggow stated this is currently impossible. If the boot loader was unlocked I'm sure it would be possible. But right now you can only write an OS to the stock slot. Otherwise you would brick your phone.

It won't brick the phone. The most commonly reported problem is loss of connectivity using the ROM in the non-stock slot.
So there's no chance at the moment?
Thank for for replying btw ^^

It depends...
Would you be fine with using Fire OS in "WiFi only" mode? (since there is no connectivity via mobile data, SIM card isn't recognized)
If you are planning on using Fire OS only for a handful of things, I could test* a slimmed down version in slot 1...
* not before Saturday though...
Did a quick calculation, I'm down to 1.27 GB uncompressed data (from 1.8), so it's not looking good, I'll update given it works out...
edit: Successfully flashed it to slot 1 with 54 Mbytes space left, yeesh... ^^ Not stable at all, I'll give it a whirl with flashing a customized backup to slot 1 on the weekend, maybe this approach is useful...
Hi,
so first of all I apologize for my late reply, had a hard week :c
Second thing is that I want to thank you very much for your support ^^ And as long as the small version works it would be great if you could give me the link to it ^^
Just to say it again: Thank you!

Me too, expect an update within the next week, I hope it works with WiFi only and has no FCs...
edit 1: the TWRP backup image is ready for testing but I have to "reset" my device: whenever I create the "rom-slot-1", system partition shows up with 0 MB... working now...
edit 2: Welp, with my final image I had around 200 MB free space on the system partition but the biggest problem is again the hardware identification on non-stock slots, e.g. the mac address is "missing", so no WiFi at all, screen turns on & off by itself after a couple of minutes. I'm not going to upload the image, since it's only a case study titled "crash & burn".
I installed Google play on fire tv stick
Then my device started restarting indefinitely.
What should i do?:crying:
unplug it boot to twrp wipe cache dalvic cache reboot see if fixes. if not using twrp restore a backup or rbox prerooted rom

The 4k doesnt have options yet (but it is coming), the (2, tank) can be unlocked and fixed, the one? you have options but for what it is throw it away....

Be patient. There is a thread to donate for unlocking. I wouldn't be surprised if it is unlocked and rooted in the next couple weeks which should give you the tools you need to fix your brick. I was saying to throw the firestick1 away. The firestick 4k is the 2nd best TV device amazon has sold and definitely worth fixing!

hmm i wonder if you have enough time to trigger the factory reset remote shortcut of holding back and right for 10 sec

Have you let it loop longer, How long?
