I don't use whatsup so I'm not sure what your asking
if you do not have a file manager installed, pick one from play store and navigate to folder the videos are stored in by whatsapp and see if there is a .nomedia file in there,if there is delete it. reboot phone to recovery and wipe cache, dalvik cache so gallery will recheck folders for media and regenerate new icons upon reboot. if there was no .nomedia file, still reboot and clear caches so new thumbnails can be regenerated. now if that does not help, check the video file type. may not be viewable by gallery. but i don't think the last one should be the issue because from what i briefly read about whatsapp, the videos should be compatible and should appear in gallery.
edit: you might be able to just navigate to sdcard/android/data/ gallery3d and delete its contents, then reboot so gallery can regenerate thumbs properly without wiping caches.

what rom are you using?
in some builds of shpongle for example, it's a known bug, that there are no video thumbnails..
video playback should be alright.

Hey there, I am running MIUI XJ 1.8.26 XPART and I really like this version and I don't wanna change to a newer one.
This one is fine with battery life and smoothness so I will stick with this since my vacation
I am having this strange bug again when deleting pictures from the gallery app.
After a reboot they just show up like I never deleted them.
Last time xj told me to delete sdcard\miui\.cache\ and everything was OK... but now the pictures keep showing up after a reboot AND the cache folder is empty...
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance!
What pictures you want to delete? Your own? System Images?
Pictures I took with the camera or which I copied to SD card.
No system files or kinda protected files.

i have the same problem, deleted 3 pics from camera folder, rebooted phone and they are reappeared ) strange bug ), using 1.9.2 x-part.
Vanguarde, you can try to delete the folder which I posted.
That helped me quite some time.

No, did not work, i tried but the pics are reappeared. but it doesn't matter if you delete from file explorer its ok.
I just tried to delete it by inserting SD card in a card reader and delete it with windows explorer.
I don't get that. That didn't work also.
Every reboot I get the pics "back".
What the hell?

As I face this issue, I did a huge search to find the solution, Tried full wipe, custom kernel to disable logger, sdrescan. ....etc...
Finally, I'm quite sure the problem,
1. Rom manager fail update, they put .nomedia at root .
Just uninstall it, and reintall it from market, they fixed it as well.
And the very important second things I found,
2. 360 Camera's Photos! !!!!!!! They make a bad jpg header, u can view it in explorer or file manager but, in ics and jb, media scanner just cause repeating scanning!!!!!
Please, don't use camera 360 and uninstall it after they known fix it
Use any file explorer, rename all C360*.JPG to C360.bak in dcim\camera folder
Or search all c360*.jpg zip them and delete all the jpg named c360 in front.
Clear mediascanner settings in application.
Reboot, after 2 to 3 mins, access gallery. Or play music, u will be happy as well.

Hi all, was wondering if there was a way that I can restrict the Gallery app on my Note 2 to just a single folder instead of scanning the entire phone?
I read a post on the net that said placing a ".nomedia" empty text file in a directory will cause the media scanner to ignore that directory but that does not seem to work in Jelly Bean.
Thanks all
CM
It should still work. Try a force close on the gallery, clear the cache for that app (from programs, not recovery clean cache), and open gallery again.

I am following the .nomedia method and it works fine with latest update.. As said in the above post, try to clear cache..It might solve your problem.
Are you trying to write .nomedia in a txt file and than placing it in a folder????
Create any file and rename it to just .nomedia and than place where ever you want than goto settings/application manager find gallery and clear data.
If it still doesn't work for you try an app called "vault" from play to hide picture and videos if it helps

Thank you, thank you!! Yes, that worked perfect!
Thanks to all who responded to my question. I finally got it working with the ".nomedia" file after force stopping the Gallery app and clearing its data.
And how to hide folder from dropbox in gallery? Not all folders, just few of them?
.nomedia method seems to not working here?
I want to exclude the whatsapp-folder from the sony album app. So I placed a .nomedia-file in it, cleared data of media app and rebooted. The pictures are gone now. But new pictures are still shown in the album app.
Any idea how to exclude a folder from the album...?
PS: don't tell me to use another app like quickpic...

It's a general problem in Android.
In earlier versions it was possible to use the.nomedia file but now there is no solution for this...
Use ES Explorer to hide
I have the same problem with you, it's so annoying when I saw some cartoon picture from com.game.blablabla appear to my album. I was try to hide the folder using ES Explorer (or maybe you know another app to hide the folder). And it's work, there is no silly picture again to my album. And the app still working although I hide they data folder.
This bug was rectified in JB 4.3 Version....
So update your android to latest 4.3 version

Even in 4.3 I still have this bug, but for me, the following trick always work.
Besides keeping the empty ".nomedia" file in all the folders you don't want the system to scan, please go
Settings / Apps / All / Media Storage / Clear: "Data on device" / Reboot
to clean the Album data.

This trick is old.it's applicable on JB 4.2.x versions.
But according to many users this bug is fixed in JB 4.3 ,.
you try in your mobile by resetting it to factory state...
Because of only this bug, in 2.67 and old firmware version.
I updated my Xperia zl to latest.569 version....

thanks, this work for me
I'm using a Bell I317M and recently flashed the official 4.3 update. I have noticed that I see duplicate entries in the gallery and have traced it down to the fact that I have two paths mapped to the SD card: /storage/extSdCard and /mnt/extSdCard
I don't recall this happening prior to the update. I believe it's related to a new way of referencing the external SD cards but is there a way to fix this so that the stock gallery app doesn't think they are completely different locations and show duplicates?
Actually, this is not only restricted to the stock gallery app. I have the stock android gallery app and it's doing the same thing!
Are you using more than one gallery ??
Or more than one camera app?
Both will create and place duplicates...
Just a thought.... g

I have both the Samsung stock gallery app and the Stock JB gallery installed. As for camera, I mainly use the Samsung stock camera app. But how (and why) would it create duplicates? New pics get saved to the DCIM location on the external SD card.
But since I have 2 logical paths to that location (one through /mnt and another through /storage), the gallery shows duplicates....

Have you flashed or dirty flashed roms? I've seen it where this can happen. Most likely the double gallery apps are doing this. Can you delete the non samsung app and see if that worked?

Agreed ....
Use TIBU and freeze one of the apks then delete it's associated duplicate folder...
Then test it...
Also ...make sure that you don't have 2 cameras set as system apps or they will both create folders on boot...g

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to look into that.
re: dirty flashing. the only thing I can think of was the in-place upgrade of the official 4.3 upgrade which I flashed through ODIN. I did not wipe prior or after the upgrade.

This is an easy fix that worked for me.... I had a directory that duplicated itself, and two more that wouldn't even show in the gallery.
1. I had a couple of directories duplicate themselves when they were originally created in the emulated directory and I "moved" it to my SD card... then when viewed in gallery it showed two directories "both in SD card"..... all I did was copy this whole directory to a different location on the sd card "copy not move", then went back and deleted the original directory. Then took my copy and moved it back to my original location. Then when viewing gallery only one directory was visible "the right one".
Others recipes may work, but this one did for me...
2. Directories that were invisible were fixed simply by renaming the directory using ES explorer, go to gallery and confirm they now all show then go back in es explorer and rename back to what you had them before "if you wish".......
Now go into Gallery a second time and you should still see the directories with names back to original as you've named them. your fixed!
I think mine got messed up with I created a file called .nomedia inside the directory... while it did remove the directory from view in gallery "like it's supposed to do", when that file was deleted, the directory was still invisible.... Even after hard reboot, clearing system cache and partition cache....but the above fixed it
