I want to exclude the whatsapp-folder from the sony album app. So I placed a .nomedia-file in it, cleared data of media app and rebooted. The pictures are gone now. But new pictures are still shown in the album app.
Any idea how to exclude a folder from the album...?
PS: don't tell me to use another app like quickpic...

It's a general problem in Android.
In earlier versions it was possible to use the.nomedia file but now there is no solution for this...
Use ES Explorer to hide
I have the same problem with you, it's so annoying when I saw some cartoon picture from com.game.blablabla appear to my album. I was try to hide the folder using ES Explorer (or maybe you know another app to hide the folder). And it's work, there is no silly picture again to my album. And the app still working although I hide they data folder.
This bug was rectified in JB 4.3 Version....
So update your android to latest 4.3 version

Even in 4.3 I still have this bug, but for me, the following trick always work.
Besides keeping the empty ".nomedia" file in all the folders you don't want the system to scan, please go
Settings / Apps / All / Media Storage / Clear: "Data on device" / Reboot
to clean the Album data.

This trick is old.it's applicable on JB 4.2.x versions.
But according to many users this bug is fixed in JB 4.3 ,.
you try in your mobile by resetting it to factory state...
Because of only this bug, in 2.67 and old firmware version.
I updated my Xperia zl to latest.569 version....

Hi fellas,
I have a good amount of musics, and they are all equipped with albumart.
When I open gallery / gallery 3D, all those unnecessary folders with albumart on each of it showed up. How do I remove or hide these albumart/folder from gallery ?
I wanted gallery to only show my pictures... not albumarts...
Please, any help would be appreciated..
Have you tried putting a nomedia file in the folders that you don't want to show images in the gallery? I've attached the file in a rar, try downloading it and placing one in each folder that you don't want to show it's image content in the gallery.
how did you get those files? these are amazing! did you made it?

you just create a blank file called .nomedia, also try nomedia from the market, it lets you create and manage your .nomedia files
Rename your folder with the album art....
You just need to rename the folder with the album art and precede it with a .
eg:
.albumart
By default the OS ignores anything with a . in front as it uses these for system files, your picture/media viewer will ignore any folders with a . in front
Hope it works....

Wow, great tip! I've been wondering about this too! I'm going to finally be able to hide JuicePlotter cache images! All is good in the world now.
Am I being dumb here??
I've just downloaded nomedia as my Gallery app was loading every image on my phone. I've run it and selected the folders I don't want to see in Gallery. I can see a new .nomedia file appear in the chosen folders but still Gallery shows them.
Please help as per the other users this has been bugging me for ages.

I seems to have trouble finding the actual folders location. I have folders such as "newdesign" "zimly" and stuffs, but when I look up to them at sd card root.. Can't seems to find them. I also tried to find inside subdirectories, still can't find. Gallery 3D does not tell you information where do those particular folders are hiding at. How do I find them?
can anybody else help?

when I try to rename the folder with . from windows, it always show error message:
"you must type a file name"
How do you rename it ?
Run "cmd" and go to the directory which contains the folders you want to rename ( "cd .." to go back one dir. and cd "example" to go to a further directory from the dir you are). Then, for example, type "ren abcd .abcd".
I hope the instructions are clear

for the 2nd time, download nomedia manager off the market, its an app that will let you create and manage your .nomedia files lol
I have a HTC Desire with 2.2 stock and unrooted. I just noticed that have a directory called NewDesign in my gallery and I can't find it or get rid of it. I think it appeared after the Android update last night. Anyone know how to get rid of it?

Well.. I agree.. nomedia seems to work great... too great in fact...
I found this thread while "searching for a way to keep album art from showing in the picture/movie Gallery" (the basic Gallery app built into my Samsung Fascinate).
So, I tried nomedia... re-scanned Media Card... well.. it worked, only folders with pictures I want show up.
HOWEVER.. I assume nomedia truly means no media at all will show up in any media application.. ie: Now, when I launch Music Player... it too is obeying the nomedia file, and all of my Music mp3s are no longer visible at all (only the ones in the ringtones folder, which I currently do not have a .nomedia file in).
Is there any way to get rid of album art from the photo Gallery.. AND maintain access to the mp3's and the Album art via the Music Player app?
Thanks in advance for any assistance or knowledge anyone has on this subject.

after i copy music to my sd card, and it shows up with the album art, i then just delete the album art from the album folders, it dosent remove it from the music player
Can try 'gallery enabler' from the market. Its very easy to use, just tick the folder that you want to be shown in the gallery

After a bit more digging, I realized that the Art that was showing up in the Gallery were some files named .....AlbumArt....small/large.jpg.. In other words.. I had all the "folder.jpg" files.. AND other files not named "folder.jpg" .. it was the 2nd group of files that was showing up in the Gallery. Thus, I mounted my SDCard from PC... searched for all "*AlbumArt*jpg" files, and deleted them... allowing only the "folder.jpg" files to remain.
This now allows Media player to see the folder.jpg files for album art... while keeping the "other" file's from showing up in the photo/movie Gallery.
In hindsight, this is pretty obvious.. but, when I was posting above, I didn't realize that I had both sets of "folder.jpg" and "other files".. ..
Obviously, I disabled the ".nomedia" for "My Music" folder, allowing it to be scanned, ... and allowing the Gallery to ignore the "folder.jpg" files.
Thanks to all for your responses....

the album art should be included in the id3 tags anyway
Hi all, was wondering if there was a way that I can restrict the Gallery app on my Note 2 to just a single folder instead of scanning the entire phone?
I read a post on the net that said placing a ".nomedia" empty text file in a directory will cause the media scanner to ignore that directory but that does not seem to work in Jelly Bean.
Thanks all
CM
It should still work. Try a force close on the gallery, clear the cache for that app (from programs, not recovery clean cache), and open gallery again.

I am following the .nomedia method and it works fine with latest update.. As said in the above post, try to clear cache..It might solve your problem.
Are you trying to write .nomedia in a txt file and than placing it in a folder????
Create any file and rename it to just .nomedia and than place where ever you want than goto settings/application manager find gallery and clear data.
If it still doesn't work for you try an app called "vault" from play to hide picture and videos if it helps

Thank you, thank you!! Yes, that worked perfect!
Thanks to all who responded to my question. I finally got it working with the ".nomedia" file after force stopping the Gallery app and clearing its data.
And how to hide folder from dropbox in gallery? Not all folders, just few of them?
.nomedia method seems to not working here?

Where did you copy this instagramm folder? Try renaming it or moving it to another path on the memory. Also check out if there is a .nomedia file somewhere in the folder or in the folders above (depending on what file browser you use, you maybe have to turn on "Show hidden files"). If you find a .nomedia file, just delete it so that the media scanner is allowed to search for pictures in this folder and all the subfolders..
Setting > App > All > Media Storage
Clear data and cache.
Media rescan.
Settle.

did that, add the file and restarted the phone but it didnt work, try with the app, same result
EDIT: Solved by clearing data/cache from album app.
I'm signing on late here, but the app File Copy will hide those kind of files if you don't want to delete them. (The name is deliberately misleading.) It's in the Play Store.

I just keep a .nomedia file handy somewhere where it is not in the way, and copypaste it when- and whereever necessary. No need for PC, no need for anything. Some file explorers also let you create files on the go.
But I would very much like to get rid of the flikr, play-memories and other integrated crap folders. any ideas?
Hi,
I realized that the pictures in App_parts folder, MMS photos sent and received, appears in Album, Google Photos and the interface that opens when I want to share a file (view screenshot attached, I don't know what app it is).
My rom is [Stock][PreRooted][DualRecovery][D5503] 14.6.A.1.236 Customized DE - Lollipop 5.1.1, rooted, xposed and Serajr installed.
With .108 Privacy Guard, I don't had this problem...
My wife's Alcatel idol 3 don't have this issue.
How can I fix it ? Where is the problem ?
Thanks, and sorry for my poor english.

have you rebooted the phone after creating the .nomedia file? or any other method that forces the media scan because the change isn't instant
I just try to reboot the phone, maybe if I wipe cache and dalvik cache ?
