How to know why my phone reboots ?

Hello,
My Defy is rebooting randomly, and I'm looking for a way to know why it reboots.
I'd like to have something monitoring the reboot events, in order to tell me why it reboots exactly, which service or application is causing the reboot.
Is it possible ?

mine reboots randomly too, but even worse is that sometimes I get "only emergency calls" and keeps that way until I turn fly mode on&off. It's very annoying because i need to keep an eye on it.
I hadn't flashed mine, maybe these issues get solve if i use another ROM?

No rom solves it. Its to do with signnal strength and 3G. You will find two more threads in same section. But no one wants to help.

Try another SIM card? I read that some SIM Defy give problems and restarts ...

i've only tried a SIM but it's new.
It seems to be a software problem, because it happens randomly and recovers signal every time i switch flight mode on and off...

It has to do with signal strength and 3G. I would suggest that is there is one particular area it does it in, note that area and contact TMobile. They have solved my issues every time I have called into them about it. I suspect part of the issue has to do with the tower.

Have read other threads on this saying same. In the US, T-Mo seems pretty good at responding to these calls.

I'm in France, so T-Mobile should provide me with no help.
However, I will give a try with a new SIM card.

The problem is when you walk into elevator or some cabin. No signal initiates reboot then and tmob cant help in such cases. Is there a developer who can help me with fine tuning one already existing app?. Its called Shutupbattery saver. It switches Off data when signal is low but it needs more modification to make it work. I am ready to pay if someone can help. This tool will also be useful to everyone to save a lot of battery in low signal areas.

Are you running wifi at the same time? I've noticed this exaggerates the problem even more. The other thing I noticed is if you phone is overclocked, put it back to stock and see if it still happens. That was one of the observations I made with both of mine.

With or without WiFi makes no difference. The phone is using official "Orange FR" 2.51.1 ROM, no root, no overclock (even no app), and it may work perfectly for several days and then start to reboot.
It rebooted during the week end. On monday I managed to stop it after several factory reset and wipe of cache. It worked on monday afternoon and tuesday ; and on wednesday morning, during the breakfast the phone restarted one time. Afterward, in the morning several reboots occured, I tried to factory reset the phone two times. The first one with no success (using the bootloader's recovery), the second one by using the "confidentiality" menu of the phone, and it stopped the reboots.
The phone have been working since 10 am and the last reset, and no reboot occured. I installed no app after this reset, I only replaced the SIM by a new one this evening.
I will try the phone like this tomorrow, and on friday I will start to reinstall my applications, and test each one prior to install the next one.

All those observations I made was with stock rom and with no/less apps. I will wait for the Scratman to come back and report his findings. Hope the sim thing works. I am damn fed up of walking into no signal zone again.

If you know the phone is going to reboot, before it does hit *#*#4636#*#* on the dial pad and let us know what the phone is connected to, signal strength, etc. I know I could alwasy tell when mine was going to do it as the phone got real sluggish and it acted almost like a kernel panic. It was a very obvious behavior.

Signal strength with 3G below 102dbm is when it reboots.

OK i came across this wonderful app called Tasker. I tried doing some stuff but this app is realllllllly complex. Can any bright mind download the app here and make a sequence which says "low signal then switch off APN".
I made some but i am pretty sure I am wrong. Here is the code for the direct download. It is a trial and will expire in 9days.

I have the same problem with random reboots.
I sent it in to Motorola and got it back now with only the speaker exchanged (!?!).
Of course now I still have the problem. Upgraded then to Finland 2.2. with Pays Mod, but reboots still sometimes (once or twice a day).
Tried ShutupBatterySaver to turn of data connection when the signal is too low --> still reboots.
I think I can remember that once somebody in this forum posted a link from the Motorola support with a bugfix, but I can't find it anymore. Anyone here knows more?

Has anyone else tried replacing their SIM with a uicc SIM? Others on the non-us Moto forum are reporting SIM replacement as a cure -- but I recommend you get the latest uicc version.

sometimes when i lock the phone i cant unlock it and i have to remove battery an restart the phone...
i tried two diffrent sim but this steel hapens...

Data not working on phone despite the rom

Okay, so my problem is that I'm not getting data on my phone suddenly. It doesn't matter what rom I'm using, it starts off with only bars, no data. Then after a while it goes to 1x and stays there no matter what even though I'm in a strong 3G area and have gotten 3G here 24/7 before. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this? My roommate is behind me with his Droid X and he has 3G so it's not on Verizon's end.

Most all of the time when I flash from a clean (Factory Reset) I need to select the data roaming boxes in the mobile network settings.
I know tech support told me something about one of them, but I can't remember which one it was or what it was about.
But I think it has to do with how close I am to Canada?
I know if I don't select at least one of them, I get NO data.
Also sometimes I cycle Airplane mode to "Motivate" 3G.

Also Verizon has been messing with towers lately.

I used airplane mode for a second to try and switch it and it just turned all data off again. I gave up and went to sleep, and when I woke up it was 3G again. Not sure what the deal was. Maybe it was verizon. I'm in Williamsport PA so maybe they're gearing up for LTE here. That would be awesome. Thanks for the responses.
EDIT: My cell standby is abnormally high. Wonder if that has anything to do with this..

He speaks the truth. I don't know if it's a bug, or is "working as intended." I hate when they tell me that.

I got thee same error , now two day , wipe , ever wipe and change before flash rom or nandroid but still happen and i lost my data , can you advise me something ?

Is there any conflick who appear when we flash rom , or the recovery don't give us the good wipe ?

If all else fails, you could try a esn reset or update to the 722 radio.

in a stock froyo ota both work ,but signal strengh is low, after flashing yours seems to be strong . to load others Rom, especially ext4 rom and ASOP i need to change the ota hboot 0.99.0000 to 0.96.200 en .

Edit- just saw you're in china, so verizon is kinda useless, lol. sorry man...
Swap the ESN by moving your number over to a spare Verizon smartphone, then right back to your old phone. This forces the data stream to switch, and if it got corrupted it will be reset. Please note you MUST do this between two smartphones so you keep your data plan intact.
I believe verizon can do this from customer support if you don't have a spare smartphone, but i haven't tried it.

Have you tried different kernels? Try using ultimate kernel script before you install a kernel.

Letitride & artvandelay440 just helped me out with this, call *228 and use option 1, then after its done call back and use option 2, this worked for me, i had no service, but now i'm back on 3G.

The problem now is i am not in US ,so this method don't work for me in China .
Any other methods ?

[Q] SLOW Wifi speed - Something wrong! [proven] Please help

Hi guys,
I have a 50 mbps internet connection at home and work. However, when i run a speed test in both locations, I'm only getting 1-2 mbps download speeds. When I perform the same test on my other android devices, I get the following:
Nexus 7 - 35+ mbps
Evo 3D - 16+ mbps
How do I go about fixing this? Is it my modem/radios? I'm thinking this might be the case as I updated my modem to MA7 and could have done it wrong, for all I know?
Here are my details:
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband: L900VPAMA7
Kernel: 3.0.31-265523 [email protected] #1
Build Number: MacksROM AllStar! MA7
Hardware: L900.09

Here's a few suggestions to help you narrow it down.
See if it's signal strength by moving closer to the router.
If you're using the speedtest app, test with 5 different locations to make sure it's not an issue on their side.

I've already confirmed it's not my home or work router. All other devices perform fine on it.
I've also confirmed that it's not the custom ROM i'm using. Other people with the same ROM have no speed problems.
It's also not the Speed test app. I've change to about 10 different servers and they all come back with the same results.
Not only that, but my other android devices perform fine on those same servers. It has to be my wifi antenna. But how do I fix this?

Have you verified the md5 of the rom zip?

I'm in the same boat. It seams likes since I upgraded to ma7 I've had a very weak wifi signal. I have to shut off wifi and use 4g. Ive upgraded to mc2, changed roms nothing has helped. The wife has full bars (stock) right now and I have none. I dont know what else to try. I'm glad someone else is having the same issues.

I had the same problem. My wifi on my Note 2 was and is so slow compared to my S3 and S4 I get 25 down on my S3 and 45+ on the S4 but on the Note 2 its about 10 and less its has to be something with the device it's self I got a replacement and still had the problem son may be the wifi radios just suck

Flash a stock rom and see if your speed are the same. And I mean stock samsung not a custom touchwiz rom.
The radios shouldn't matter.... But after you try a stock samsung rom, try upgrading your radio to mc2.

Yeah I'm stock and have the problem I wish I new why it was so much slower on the Note 2 than other devices

Just noticed that my wifi has now just start to go slower as in the actual signal to the router is even low. And I didn't have this problem a few weeks ago so I'm not sure what's going on. Been completely stock too. The only thing that might be the issue is the kernel. As before I was stock but was running saber kernel

I've tried multiple kernels and had the same issue with all of them. Stock. Perseaus, now I'm on Ziggy.
Also I'm having an issue with people can't hear me when they call me. But when I call them back everything is fine. Tried turning off noise reduction and it didn't help.
I just about to reflash back to stock and return it to Sprint.

Would the wifi scan interval have something to do with it? Not sure myself but just a suggestion.

My issue is that the Damn WiFi goes crazy anywhere from 1 bar to 2 bars and takes for ever to load a YouTube video that is even in HD. I have a 24Mbps connection and typically on any other device I get 15 to 18Mbps. However on here it says that but Sure isnt acting like that.

Ok I did a factory reset and flashed with mc2_stock with reset. Well surprise its still the same. I compared mine with my wife's stock note 2 and everything is the same. With the phones side by side she had full wi fi and I had a small green dot.
Any ideas before I return the back to sprint?

Sounds like a broken WiFi antenna. I had the same issue with my OG Evo, and an Android TV Stick. The little tape strip that had the thin antenna in it had been torn and caused signal issues. I took the phone to Sprint hand got a new back panel with new antennas all around. Fixed the issue.

[Q] CM 10.1 / 10.2 Bluetooth Issues

Morning all,
I would post this in the CM thread but as I have less than 10 posts I cannot. Visit the forums daily to get a catch up and I am very comfortable rooting / flashing my phone.
I recently purchased a new car and I had CM10.1 installed, I paired my Bluetooth with the car and it worked fine, I can access the phonebook and call logs, when I went to make a call, it either failed or if it did connect, I had very robotic voices on the other end, almost like the codec wasn't right? Wiped phone, flashed stock 4.1.2 TW and Bluetooth worked fine, could make and receive calls with no issues there at all other than 4.1.2 TW, which is as we all know, horrid.
I wiped cache / davlik and factory reset, and installed 10.2 last night, tried it with my car this morning and getting worse issues than 10.1, it pairs fine but when I go to make a call it fails then displays "Emergency Calls Only". If I disconnect my Bluetooth, call works fine. The call actually makes it through before the ECO message, it gets 1 ring on the persons phone, mine doesn't even ring out.
Searching brought no answers and it seems I am the only one with this issue

You'd be surprised/relieved to know that you are not the only one experiencing the issues you mentioned. I have gone through exactly the same scenario as you, and I am totally frustrated as there is no solution in sight. I have tried many android 4.3 roms and they all behave in the same faulty way, which leads me to believe that there is something wrong or incompatible with Jelly Bean 4.3 Bluetooth stack. Right now I am back with stock 4.1.2 and I am waiting for Samsung's release of the new 4.3 rom.
BTW, I am using Parrot car system for communication, which one is yours?

I'm having the same problem. Mine is an issue with My VW Passat's Bluetooth connection and streaming music. I'm really hoping that this is something that is resolved soon hopefully because my only option for CM is 10.2 since I'm on the Verizon HTC One.
I also saw on some other threads that this may be an issue with the Wifi and Bluetooth bands (2.4Ghz) interfering with each other. I'm going to try to turn off my wifi on my drive to work tomorrow and see if that helps the audio stuttering at all.

I am using the built in Vauxhall Insignia software. I have found that 4.3 TW Bluetooth works fine with it, so it isn't a 4.3 bluetooth issue...
Did you get any luck in getting to the bottom of this?

Slow W-Fi on Marshmallow

Ok, tried this in a couple of Marshmallow ROM threads and found just one other person who experiences the same, so I decided to make a thread and maybe find a solution or at least the cause for my problem.
I tried several new 20A Marshmallow ROMs on my H815 EUR G4 and always get the same slow Wi-Fi speeds problem. I notice it the most in Google Play And Youtube load times but also in the browser. When I fire up YouTube I usually have to wait between 5 and 10 seconds for the content to show up. Similiar is with Google Play when I have to wait for the graphics, app thumbs and stuff to show up.
As soon as I switch to Mobile data it flies, and yes, I tried it on another Wi-Fi spots. it's the same. When I go back to lollipop it flies. WTF?
One thing I notice is when my phone on MM first connects to Wi-Fi connection it briefly shows an exclamation mark which disappears in a few seconds.
If someone has any idea what this could be causing, i would appreciate it.

I would guess it has to do with DNS requesting, maybe on wifi you have custom DNS servers ? (which you can't change on mobile, you're bound to your carrier's ones)
maybe also your router quite does not like seeing you phone with some settings (firewall ? other ?) bound to the lolipop version of the phone, and just after that the same MAC adress with other settings (MM) => have you tried to reboot / reset your router ?

Ofcourse. I also tried connecting to my friend's router an it's the same. Really crazy...

I have just installed MM, and I experience 'hangs' when on Wi-Fi.

Same issue here - any idea on how to fix that?
Update: the problem only seems to occur, when Bluetooth is on *confused*

Same here. It's annoying!
Tried with several Wifi-networks.
Did 3 hard-resets. After these wifi is ok for 2-3 days. then broken again. Ping-times at 2-3 seconds (!).

No problems for me, it works fine. Stock 6.0, locked bootloader.
Some issues may appear if the router changes the channel, but otherwise it's fine.

As said before. Disabling Bluetooth (for a while) fixed this for me.
Since weeks now no problems.
