Camera apk help? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Running AOKP. I have a camera that is flashable zip, I've installed a camera(4.2 photosphere) before and it's given me two camera apps. Once I've installed this new camera how could I delete the default camera that came with the ROM and keep the one I flashed?

Remove it from system/apps

I would keep both. The original (without photosphere) is probably an updated version with more features. Also I believe the camera app with photosphere crashes when it focuses while taking normal pictures. Although that may depend on the ROM you are running or the apk you installed. In any case, it may just be easier to hide the app from your app drawer rather than removing it.

copy the original apk to a location like your micro sd card then delete it from system/apps. the 4.2 camera has great features and worked well for me without crashes as long as the scene mode was set to action. there was no difference in picture quality between the 2.
in the event you want to revert, delete the new camera and copy the original back.

Thank you j. I got ahold to the Google edition cam from the Google s3. I'm going to try this out npw

Gallery saving app icons as pics

Wonder if anyone else is experiencing this...when my phone updates apps from the market, the app icon is saved as a picture in my gallery. Deleting it doesn't do anything to the app and it gets annoying when you update 20 apps at once. Any ideas or experience on how to stop this?
I am rooted and all roms I tried have this happening on them, so it can't be them.

I was wondering what those were... They seemed pretty harmless so I just ignored or deleted them.

The stock gallery sucks. Use "quickpic" and long press and! Click exclude and it won't show that folder anymore. Plus the quickpic app sets photots as wallpapers in higher quality.
Do any of you have app monster installed? I installed the app mentioned above and went to ignore the directory of the icon image....said it was found in appmonster, deleted it and problem is solved.

Just guessing, but could you have "Auto-add widgets" checked in Market settings? Maybe what you're seeing are icons for the widgets it creates.
You can navigate to the folder on your SDcard and create a blank file
".nomedia" and then remount your sdcard and those files will no longer display in the gallery works good for these you don't want easily found

I have been using Quickpic over Gallery for months now. It really is great. If I could set lockscreen wallpapers from it, Gallery would have been deleted a long time ago..edit..maybe you can set lockscreen wallpaper with Quickpic ..

Actually, I tried freezing Gallery and then the opinion to set Lockscreen wallpaper from Quickpic disappears...so can't delete Gallery! Damn

Seems like an odd issue. Do you have any icon packs installed or something like that? I know Gallery will create thumbnails for something like that. Have you checked to see what the name of the folder is that the icons are in?
If it's icons packs or for some reason a folder is being created with the thumbnails in it then just do the .nomedia thing and reboot (or cycle unmount/mount of the sdcard).
It was definetly app monster pro. Anytime I updated/downloaded a new app, it would save an image file of the app icon in its directory. I deleted app monster since I use titanium instead, problem solved.

Moving Pictures to a Gallery Folder

Does the stock gallery app allow you to move pictures to a different folder? couldnt seem to find that option.
If not... are there any good apps that allow you to move photos within folders? Without using an "explorer" type of app like astro. if not... are there any apps made specifically for this function? i hate using astro just to move pictures around.
If they are on your "SD Card" just plug it into the computer and move them that way, but no, the stock gallery app doesn't have that feature. Needs it though.
Use QuickPic, really great app.

Gallery keeps crashing

Sorry am new at this so might sound stupid. My camera folder through gallery in galaxy nexus ( flashed to maguro takju build 4.1.1) is
Crashing repeatedly whenever accessed from either any app or directly . Although other apps like es explorer are able to open the folder and show the pics fine. Also there is no problem in taking the pictures. Earlier I had simply deleted all the pictures from the camera folder and it seemed to work but again it has started to crash. It opens for a few seconds and then auto closes to main screen. Please advice.

Can you please clear data and clear cache from the Gallery App Info screen.
How to reach App Info Screen: Settings->Apps->Swipe Left to Reach All tab-> Scroll down to Gallery and open. This is the App Info screen of the Gallery App. Here click on clear data and clear cache.
Try opening the Gallery App to see if this solves the problem.
I just did that, but it still crashes after a second of opening the camera folder. The other folders work just fine when being accessed through gallery view. I cannot access camera folder through my gallery app for more than a second.

Can you pls backup whatever you have in the DCIM folder and delete the entire DCIM folder and let the Camera App recreate it. We shall see if this solves it.
And btw which ROM are you on?

I had this same issue for a day or two but it got corrected on its own, I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything myself to fix it. But maybe I'm lucky?
I'm on complete stock btw!

Thank you thank you all.
It seems to be working for now. The camera created the folder and i took some 30 pics to test it with and seems to be working. I also changed the default folder for camera 360 to a separate location just to be safe.
It seems to be working fine now.
Almost the same
Carrier: Verizon
Phone: Samsung Galaxy Nexus S 4g
Android: 4.2.2
Rom: Stock?
I recently updated Android 4.2.2 on my device and have not been able to launch the camera or open any apps that use the camera since. I performed a factory restart, upon initial boot at the welcome screen I am promoted that the Gallery and Google Talk have stopped. I have tried multiple factory restarts, installing different camera apps, clearing data on the gallery app and creating a test app all of which produce the same result, app crash as soon as interacting with the camera.
In my test app I am able to get the Following error to print out in LogCat
03-25 23:56:19.701: E/CameraHAL(129): Couldn't get camera properties
Not sure what to do next
Try to clear the cache, it may works.

"MOD" Save Pictures to External SD with CM10/AOKP Camera

Thanks to TheUnkn0wn for his AOSP Mod for the camera(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746611) to enable saving pics to your externel SD Card. By simply flashing the zip in CWM or TWRP you will lose audio for your video camera. I have tested this and just extracted the actual app in the .zip and copied it to the /system/app folder with Root Explorer that was mentioned in that Thread. I first renamed the original Galary2.apk to .bak so it wouldnt overwrite and then copied the modded one in did a reboot. I can select SD Card and audio works with the camera. Only thing missing it taking shots while recording. I can look at previews, can use flash while taking the pic etc. I have no Force Closes or any bugs at all. Test it out if anyone wants to.
Here is the extract of the zip.
http://db.tt/bGwBqnXy
With Root Explorer
1) Rename existing Gallary2.apk to .bak
2) Copy new Gallary.apk to system/app
3) Reboot phone
Thank you for this.
It is working perfectly
Yea this is absolutely awesome. Thanks a lot. One of my biggest gripes with AOKP.

Saving to external SD has already been added to my aokp. Not sure why it would be one of you "gripes. "
Maybe they aren't using your aokp but that only leaves one...which is paranoid and I had issues with that and my SD card

New link added in OP
Does anyone know is this will work on other devices running CM10?
Is the no sound in videos problem just in playback on the phone, or is it a problem with recording sound?
So Unknown has released v 2.00 for JB 4.2. Anyone get this working on our aokp devices or such?

[Q]App Replacement

I've looked up how to replace system apps and read multiple guides, but I haven't found what I'm looking for specifically. I want to remove the stock Google apps and replace them with alternatives. For example, I want quickpic instead of the gallery.
I've rooted my phone making it writable. I've flashed my phone enough times to know I need to read. I'm currently running Reloaded .500 RLS.
I've moved the quickpic apk to /system/app and changed the permissions and then I moved the gallery to /data/app and uninstalled it, but when I reboot the app is installed but force closes upon opening. What should I do? Also, should I change the name of the apk to the system app for association purposes because I want the replacement apps to be associated with the functions off the Google apps. Like when in messages when I click on "attach" I want to be able to click "picture from camera" which I can't right now even though I renamed the replacement app Camera.apk. Definitely need some help. Tia!
