Gallery keeps crashing - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Sorry am new at this so might sound stupid. My camera folder through gallery in galaxy nexus ( flashed to maguro takju build 4.1.1) is
Crashing repeatedly whenever accessed from either any app or directly . Although other apps like es explorer are able to open the folder and show the pics fine. Also there is no problem in taking the pictures. Earlier I had simply deleted all the pictures from the camera folder and it seemed to work but again it has started to crash. It opens for a few seconds and then auto closes to main screen. Please advice.

Can you please clear data and clear cache from the Gallery App Info screen.
How to reach App Info Screen: Settings->Apps->Swipe Left to Reach All tab-> Scroll down to Gallery and open. This is the App Info screen of the Gallery App. Here click on clear data and clear cache.
Try opening the Gallery App to see if this solves the problem.

I just did that, but it still crashes after a second of opening the camera folder. The other folders work just fine when being accessed through gallery view. I cannot access camera folder through my gallery app for more than a second.

Can you pls backup whatever you have in the DCIM folder and delete the entire DCIM folder and let the Camera App recreate it. We shall see if this solves it.
And btw which ROM are you on?

Don't recreate. Let the app do that.

I had this same issue for a day or two but it got corrected on its own, I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything myself to fix it. But maybe I'm lucky?
I'm on complete stock btw!

Thank you thank you all.
It seems to be working for now. The camera created the folder and i took some 30 pics to test it with and seems to be working. I also changed the default folder for camera 360 to a separate location just to be safe.
It seems to be working fine now.

Almost the same
Carrier: Verizon
Phone: Samsung Galaxy Nexus S 4g
Android: 4.2.2
Rom: Stock?
I recently updated Android 4.2.2 on my device and have not been able to launch the camera or open any apps that use the camera since. I performed a factory restart, upon initial boot at the welcome screen I am promoted that the Gallery and Google Talk have stopped. I have tried multiple factory restarts, installing different camera apps, clearing data on the gallery app and creating a test app all of which produce the same result, app crash as soon as interacting with the camera.
In my test app I am able to get the Following error to print out in LogCat

Not sure what to do next

Try to clear the cache, it may works.

Gallery saving app icons as pics

Wonder if anyone else is experiencing this...when my phone updates apps from the market, the app icon is saved as a picture in my gallery. Deleting it doesn't do anything to the app and it gets annoying when you update 20 apps at once. Any ideas or experience on how to stop this?
I am rooted and all roms I tried have this happening on them, so it can't be them.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
I was wondering what those were... They seemed pretty harmless so I just ignored or deleted them.

The stock gallery sucks. Use "quickpic" and long press and! Click exclude and it won't show that folder anymore. Plus the quickpic app sets photots as wallpapers in higher quality.
Do any of you have app monster installed? I installed the app mentioned above and went to ignore the directory of the icon image....said it was found in appmonster, deleted it and problem is solved.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Just guessing, but could you have "Auto-add widgets" checked in Market settings? Maybe what you're seeing are icons for the widgets it creates.
You can navigate to the folder on your SDcard and create a blank file
".nomedia" and then remount your sdcard and those files will no longer display in the gallery works good for these you don't want easily found

I have been using Quickpic over Gallery for months now. It really is great. If I could set lockscreen wallpapers from it, Gallery would have been deleted a long time ago..edit..maybe you can set lockscreen wallpaper with Quickpic ..

Seems like an odd issue. Do you have any icon packs installed or something like that? I know Gallery will create thumbnails for something like that. Have you checked to see what the name of the folder is that the icons are in?
If it's icons packs or for some reason a folder is being created with the thumbnails in it then just do the .nomedia thing and reboot (or cycle unmount/mount of the sdcard).
It was definetly app monster pro. Anytime I updated/downloaded a new app, it would save an image file of the app icon in its directory. I deleted app monster since I use titanium instead, problem solved.

JB gallery not showing pics taken before flashing

The gallery only shows pics taken while on this rom (fnv) already. I had a couple other jb roms which did the same thing, AND pics taken while on those other jb roms also don't show in gallery.
I read something yesterday about pics now being stored in storage/sdcard0 instead of /sdcard. But I looked in sdcard0 and the new pics are there, but so are the old pics, which still aren't showing in the gallery! Anyone know what the deal is?

Download SDRescan from play store, run app, reboot. Then they should show.

How long should the scan take? After about 8 minutes I stopped it and rebooted and it didn't work. Tried several times.

Well I have about 4.5g used on my SD card, and it takes roughly 10 mins.
Also have you tried wiping cache & data for the gallery & re-booting?

the stock gallery app dont' show some of my old picture suddenly, even I try backup the pictures to desktop PC and copy them back to Nexus, it's useless. But on other Gallery app eg: QuickPic is working fine, all picture can show correctly

But if I disable gallery now I lose camera.

[SOLVED] SDCard items (Audio, pictures) not showing in respective apps

***ADDED***
I just noticed, my audio files aren't showing up in the music app either :S
Plus, I'm not the only one with this issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837120
***Original Post***
Hey,
So this happened day before yesterday, on CM9 beta 5, my photos didn't show up in my gallery, I booted into recovery, mounted and unmounted my sdcard, cleared cache and stuff, to no avail. Today, I installed HTC One maXimus 3.0 with a full wipe, but didn't fix anything. However, what I've noticed is, if a picture is placed in the root of a folder in the sdcard, it shows up, but only if I cut and paste photos there, the ones already in the folder didn't show up either.
What I mean is:
I have a folder, /sdcard/DCIM.
The pictures that were in that directory didn't show up either. But, when I moved pictures from sdcard/DCIM/100Media to sdcard/DCIM, they showed up in the gallery.
I have another folder, /sdcard/pictures.
It has two folders inside it, 'Screenshots,' and 'Instagram.' Those photos weren't showing up either. But, when I moved them into /sdcard/Pictures, they showed up.
The biggest problem, even the pictures I take on the camera, don't show up in the gallery.
The only thing I believe is left is for me to make a backup of my sdcard, then format the sdcard, put everything back, and create new folders for the pictures and place em there.
If you have any suggestions other than that, please post it here. Id really appreciate it and will remember to hit the thanks button too!

Check to see if there is a .nomedia file in your root directory. If there is, delete it and rescan.

Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Check that the file has not reappeared. I think this is a bug from ROM Manager which has just been fixed in the latest version. So may need to update ROM Manager too.
The .nomedia file tells the photo gallery and music player that there is no media there and to ignore any it sees. If it is in the root directory then it will not see any media files in any directory
sent via Jellybean goodness
It isn't there, and I don't have Rom manager :S

Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
You may just have to wait a while and it will update the gallery/music automatically. Sorry I can't be more help, but if you did have that .nomedia file, it would have stopped your apps seeing the files

Also try deleting the app data
sent via Jellybean goodness
See my post "reset the mediadatabase". ICS stores every medialink in a database, so that no other app has to search mediafiles (vids, pictures and music) in the storage everytime. If this database is corrupted, ICS will not find any new data by this moment. The way I described in my post fixed the problem.

Pictures not showing up in Gallery

My photos are on my SD card but showing up in my gallery. This happen yesterday after I swapped out my battery for a new one. Also I can't my downloaded photos too. Its like all the albums in the gallery disappeared. Also phone has done some random reboots. I'm running vicious 8/8 cm10. Didn't know if this has happened to anyone else and know of a fix.

The problem is ROM Manager. Try uninstalling the updates for ROM Manager and clearing the data in media. Then reboot and wait 30 minutes.
If you can delete ROM Manager all together that's even better.

The problem is also with .nomedia file.
OP: What you need to do is update the ROM manager to the latest version, use file manager (any is fine) to go to sdcard root directory and then delete .nomedia file. After that, clear Media Storage data. Reboot. Sometimes, it takes up to 30 minutes for gallery to read all the pictures, but for me, it was done in like 5 minutes.

EDIT: Checked the change log on ROM manager. Looks like its been addressed. I uninstalled then reinstalled and so far all is well.

It's already been resolved. You need to update ROM manager and delete the .nomedia file from the root of your SD card. Clear data from media storage and reboot. They'll come back but it could take an hour or two.

Jelly Bean Gallery not showing sdcard photos

I had flashed the AOKP build 1 ROM last week. Among other issues, the Gallery app was not showing any images from the sdcard. I then did a nandroid restore back to Bugless Beast. But the Gallery app is still not showing sdcard photos. If I add any new photo, that is showing up in Gallery after sometime; but not existing photos.
How do I solve this? Is there any way to force the Gallery app to scan sdcard for media and pick up the images?
note -
1) Gallery app worked fine before flashing AOKP
2) I don't have .nomedia in my pictures folder and they show up fine in quickpic
3) I still need Gallery to work, as apparently the app 'bump' depends on it. Bump doesn't detect pictures, if Gallery doesn't.
Any suggestions?
I'd bet if you look at the folder or root in astro or root explorer you'll see a file named ".nomedia" somewhere. It might take a little while until the scan occurs for the pictures to show up.

Apparently it has something to do with ROM manager. If you have it installed, uninstall it and redownload from the CWM website and install it again. Reboot and it should be fine. It worked for me when I had this problem.

Nope, no .nomedia files involved. Else they wouldn't have showed up in quickpic either. I anyway checked with root browser too, with 'show hidden file' checked. No .nomedia file.

I uninstalled the ROM manager and rebooted. No effect. I then cleared cache and data of Gallery and Media Storage and rebooted. Let Gallery run its scan for sometime. Now it is showing a few picture folders of the sdcard. And a lot of 'place holder' dark grey tiles with no images in them. Guess it is still scanning. But it's been almost an hour now. Still scanning...!!!??
Will update later if everything shows up.
