I had flashed the AOKP build 1 ROM last week. Among other issues, the Gallery app was not showing any images from the sdcard. I then did a nandroid restore back to Bugless Beast. But the Gallery app is still not showing sdcard photos. If I add any new photo, that is showing up in Gallery after sometime; but not existing photos.
How do I solve this? Is there any way to force the Gallery app to scan sdcard for media and pick up the images?
note -
1) Gallery app worked fine before flashing AOKP
2) I don't have .nomedia in my pictures folder and they show up fine in quickpic
3) I still need Gallery to work, as apparently the app 'bump' depends on it. Bump doesn't detect pictures, if Gallery doesn't.
Any suggestions?
I'd bet if you look at the folder or root in astro or root explorer you'll see a file named ".nomedia" somewhere. It might take a little while until the scan occurs for the pictures to show up.

Apparently it has something to do with ROM manager. If you have it installed, uninstall it and redownload from the CWM website and install it again. Reboot and it should be fine. It worked for me when I had this problem.

Nope, no .nomedia files involved. Else they wouldn't have showed up in quickpic either. I anyway checked with root browser too, with 'show hidden file' checked. No .nomedia file.

I uninstalled the ROM manager and rebooted. No effect. I then cleared cache and data of Gallery and Media Storage and rebooted. Let Gallery run its scan for sometime. Now it is showing a few picture folders of the sdcard. And a lot of 'place holder' dark grey tiles with no images in them. Guess it is still scanning. But it's been almost an hour now. Still scanning...!!!??
Will update later if everything shows up.

Update -
After clearing cache/data of gallery and media storage and rebooting, Gallery ran its scan for some time and now it is showing all images. So, that's the solution. :good:

I guess this question is sort of related to this so I'll ask it here. In Gallery is there any way that anyone knows of to NOT display every single folder that has an image in it? It's a little annoying going to the gallery and having folders for music album folders, certain apps, themes etc. I just want to see what in my DCIM folder and sub folders

In the folder you wish to hide, create a .nomedia file in it. That will hide the folder from appearing in gallery.
So I have root explorer, but where do I go to to delete Gallery?

And/or (if you have it set up to sync) you can control it in Picasa. But that is dependent upon having sync turned on, it is after-the-fact and requires a computer/regular internet, and does not "re-route" new pictures from the "Camera" folder.

Sometimes when I do this, especially when I move pictures around existing albums it doesn't refresh immediately. Any way to force a rescan of the media? Deleting the cache does not seem to always work

Try that to manually rescan the media. It works....sometimes. heh.
ROM Manager has been updated to correct a bug many of us were experiencing today regarding media on internal storage. For those who did not know, this was the cause and has been corrected. Everyone should update ROM Manager.

I can confirm that the new update does not fix the problem. ( 5.0.1.4 )
Go delete the .nomedia file from the root of the SD and check in android/data, there may be another one. If there is, delete it as well, update ROM Manager, wipe the media storage data, reboot, profit. Worked perfectly for me.
I reboot twice afterwards just to make sure, and all is well again.

This almost worked for me. I deleted the nomedia file from root SD and there wasn't anymore to be found. It took a bit longer for sounds and pictures to be seen again, however the native music app does not see any music. Yet I can find it using astro file manager. Any ideas?

Trying clearing the data of the music app and reboot.
Don't have an option for that. Unless you mean to remove my music directory and then re-add it. 'Play Music' has no options to clear or perform any setting without a song actually selected. And currently it just offers a button to click to teach me how to pit music via USB.

Not in the app itself of course...
Go to settings and find the app in the app list and click it. You will then get the option to clear data.

Plus, I'm not the only one with this issue.

***Original Post***
Hey,
So this happened day before yesterday, on CM9 beta 5, my photos didn't show up in my gallery, I booted into recovery, mounted and unmounted my sdcard, cleared cache and stuff, to no avail. Today, I installed HTC One maXimus 3.0 with a full wipe, but didn't fix anything. However, what I've noticed is, if a picture is placed in the root of a folder in the sdcard, it shows up, but only if I cut and paste photos there, the ones already in the folder didn't show up either.
What I mean is:
I have a folder, /sdcard/DCIM.
The pictures that were in that directory didn't show up either. But, when I moved pictures from sdcard/DCIM/100Media to sdcard/DCIM, they showed up in the gallery.
I have another folder, /sdcard/pictures.
It has two folders inside it, 'Screenshots,' and 'Instagram.' Those photos weren't showing up either. But, when I moved them into /sdcard/Pictures, they showed up.
The biggest problem, even the pictures I take on the camera, don't show up in the gallery.
The only thing I believe is left is for me to make a backup of my sdcard, then format the sdcard, put everything back, and create new folders for the pictures and place em there.
If you have any suggestions other than that, please post it here. Id really appreciate it and will remember to hit the thanks button too!

Check that the file has not reappeared. I think this is a bug from ROM Manager which has just been fixed in the latest version. So may need to update ROM Manager too.
The .nomedia file tells the photo gallery and music player that there is no media there and to ignore any it sees. If it is in the root directory then it will not see any media files in any directory

It isn't there, and I don't have Rom manager :S

You may just have to wait a while and it will update the gallery/music automatically. Sorry I can't be more help, but if you did have that .nomedia file, it would have stopped your apps seeing the files

See my post "reset the mediadatabase". ICS stores every medialink in a database, so that no other app has to search mediafiles (vids, pictures and music) in the storage everytime. If this database is corrupted, ICS will not find any new data by this moment. The way I described in my post fixed the problem.

Sorry am new at this so might sound stupid. My camera folder through gallery in galaxy nexus ( flashed to maguro takju build 4.1.1) is
Crashing repeatedly whenever accessed from either any app or directly . Although other apps like es explorer are able to open the folder and show the pics fine. Also there is no problem in taking the pictures. Earlier I had simply deleted all the pictures from the camera folder and it seemed to work but again it has started to crash. It opens for a few seconds and then auto closes to main screen. Please advice.

Can you please clear data and clear cache from the Gallery App Info screen.
How to reach App Info Screen: Settings->Apps->Swipe Left to Reach All tab-> Scroll down to Gallery and open. This is the App Info screen of the Gallery App. Here click on clear data and clear cache.
Try opening the Gallery App to see if this solves the problem.
I just did that, but it still crashes after a second of opening the camera folder. The other folders work just fine when being accessed through gallery view. I cannot access camera folder through my gallery app for more than a second.

It seems to be working for now. The camera created the folder and i took some 30 pics to test it with and seems to be working. I also changed the default folder for camera 360 to a separate location just to be safe.
It seems to be working fine now.

I recently updated Android 4.2.2 on my device and have not been able to launch the camera or open any apps that use the camera since. I performed a factory restart, upon initial boot at the welcome screen I am promoted that the Gallery and Google Talk have stopped. I have tried multiple factory restarts, installing different camera apps, clearing data on the gallery app and creating a test app all of which produce the same result, app crash as soon as interacting with the camera.
In my test app I am able to get the Following error to print out in LogCat
