I think you need to flash the same rom to get it right, but I'm not sure. I think you should make a cwm backup, flash cm7 again, install Nandroid Manager and restore the apps, data and such. If that doesn't work, try Titanium Backup Pro and click on the extract from nandroid button. Maybe that works! :fingers-crossed:

If your using Clockword mod recovery, then u can download rom manager and make a full back up of your current rom.
I'm assuming you already have root?
I am using 4EXT recovery I am just testing out the backup and restore at the moment to make sure it works but thanks for your advice, will try that if this method doesn't work

4EXT is highly thought of around here, I like using CWM as it's so easy to restore backups straight through rom manager.
Happy flashing

Restore form NANDROID backup will solve your problem
Restore form NANDROID backup will solve your problem, it backups everything.
You can also try CALIBAN666 Gallery3D.apk, it should work.
If the apk does not work for you and you do a Titanium Backup of Galley app from restored rom, then flash your rom and restore the gallery from Titanuim Backup .
Reply how did you resolve your issue.
Backup will not work everytime sometimes it causes bootloops or soft bricks. I suggest you to see Flash DeodexedvStock ROM CWM Flashable with 14 toggles status bar on http://galaxyydroid.wordpress.com/2012/06/16/stock-rom-cwm-flashable-with-14-toggles-status-bar/ It's Stock ROM with some additional features like pre-rooted, deodexed, 14 toggles status bar!
OR
to get deodexed stock gallary
Download above Gallary3D.apk to SD Card app and install Root Browser free from Play Store/Market and allow SU access then goto sdcard> select Gallary3D.apk and copy it now paste it to /system/app and then reboot your device.
Hope this help you, if u found this helpful den press Thanks
Hi guys! So I mess with my phone all the time, switching kernels etc. I am running the ARHD 7.1.0 ROM and I did a Nandroid backup in CWM just in case anything bad happens to it.
I came from a Galaxy S2 though and was thinking of some questions that came into my mind. It would be nice for u to tell me that:
1. Does the backup flashes the "boot.img" automatically? or u have to "fastboot flash boot boot.img"??
2. Does it backs up the kernel?
3. Does it backs up my personal data like the SMS, Contacts and settings etc?
4. What will happen if I restore my stock nandroid backup over this?
5. Can I restore some other person's HTC One X's Stock/Custom ROM backup? Will it work?
THANKS!! ^_^
what version of RUU u have there ? is it an Asia_India? 1.29.720.11?

1. Yes, it flashes the boot.img automatically no need to use adb.
2. Yes, it backs up the kernel you we're on when you made the backup.
3. Yes, the backup will restore things to the exact state your phone was in when you made the backup. But if your really paranoid use something like titanium backup first to back up SMS etc.
4. If you restore your stock backup it will return your phone to complete stock but you will keep root access.
5. Yes technically you could restore another person's backup but I'd be careful doing that as it may cause some problems with corruption.

Well there is some confusion.
A backup doesn't flash anything.
The restore won't flash the boot.img.
All,
I was wondering if there was a way to back up your Galaxy S3 applications and settings? I have been pretty happy with my CM10 build, but new ones of course always come out. Every time I flash and update the ROM, I have to manually install my Google play apps because I do not want all the apps i have downloaded back on my phone. Also, I did not know if i could backup like Nova/message settings and apply the backup every time I flash a new ROM? Thanks, let me know!

ok so when u full wipe your phone and all that good stuff and you also backed up already flash your rom! then go back to the nandriod you just made and choose to restore data... BOOM! all your data/apps/messaging is still there!!
If your tooo lazy to do that use titanium backup search it on the playstore!
Is a nandroid backup through Clockwork or any app that I need to download? It does not make sense if I backup my current ROM and restore its data. Where can I find this? Sorry I am new to this!

The system (as in operating system) files are stored in the /system directory, this includes apps that are packaged with whatever ROM you are flashing. The /data directory is only user installed apps and their data, either from the market or other sources. I simply use titanium backup on a daily schedule backup my apps and also manually export my sms messages before a wipe. I also keep a copy of the titanium apk on my sd so i can copy it over to the the new ROM after flashing but before rebooting using a recovery based file manager. This way i can full wipe, flash, reboot, restore backups from titanium and be back to where i left off in under 10 minutes. It is also wise to keep a recent full nandroid backup just incase anything goes wrong during the process.
Thanks for respoding! Where do I go to make a nandroid backup? Titanium backup might be my best bet!

If you are speaking of an app that is already installed on your phone then you can simply copy the .apk from the /data/app folder, unless it is a system app then it would be in /system/app.

jst do what i said above k so when u full wipe your phone and all that good stuff and you also backed up already flash your rom! then go back to the nandriod you just made and choose to restore data... BOOM! all your data/apps/messaging is still there!!
When it restores DATA it restores data from apps/games/ whatever data you have i always do this and i have all my messages and games still in my new rom
You have to install clock work mod recovery. To boot into cwm, hold volume up + power + home button as you are powering on your phone.
From there, go to backup and restore > backup. This should create a full backup of your data (settings etc.) but not things on your sdcard like music or pictures. To restore after flashing, go to cwm recovery > backup and restore > advanced restore > select your backup you made > /data
On another note, what's the difference between wiping (/data, /system /cache) > flashing rom > advanced restore /data and just flashing the new rom on top of old rom? Does the new rom not delete/overwrite the old ROMs files? Also, can you just wipe /system /cache and flash new rom? Sorry for hijacking thread. Lol..
Hello to all,

if you chanege the name of the backup, things will not work.

yes....not change the name of backup...
moreover if you have flashed a zip and it didn't go fine....there is a possibility that the istallation have spoiled the backup or file of kernel...(for all I know it happened to me in this way)
Yes Guys i do make a full wipe before restore, and after making a backup i transfer it to pc for Safe storage, so whenever i need it i transfer it back to cloclworkmod folder

While you make backup does cwm show any errors? have you checked the log ? Does the restore process complete without errors ? And do you fix permissions and mount system /data etc before restoring ?

Then do it ! and try again .
This is what is happening to me. Lets say am Running on GB Rom e.g X-Gamer, now i want to try lets say Optimax Rom, i backup my Current ROM which is X-Gamer, then i try to restore it to see if its works, and i find that it works. so Flash ICS Original Sony ROM and root it. in the end i Have Sony Stock ROM.587 and CWM installed. So far am ok.
Now i Install ICS based ROM like Optimax or JellySandwhich. Everything goes Fine, so i Backup That ROM too and keep a copy on my Laptop. Now i decide to go to my old backup of X-Gamer, i Boot to recovery do a full wipe + i mount data/system and fix permission as i have CWM 5.5.0.4. which has permission option in it. i continue to restore my X-Gamer Backup. After Finnishing of course without error. i reboot the phone and Bam!!. Bootloop.
I reflash GB.42 with Flashtool, root it and install CWM. Boot to recovery and try to restore my X-Gamer backup, and WOLA!! it's restored.
same with ICS Backup. Reflash Stcok Rom root it and restore the ICS backup i made, and it works.
As i know i may be wrong (am a noob) The backup is a snapshot of the rom, so regardless of what rom someone is running when he restores the Backup, he should be back to that ROM in the backup and not to reflash first the corresponding Stock ROM in order for the Backup to work.
Please somebody help and shade some light
Have you used the same recovery all the time? Switching recoveries can "sometimes" not flash backups properly. Either that or it didn't back it up properly in the first place. TBH there's not much we can can do. The backup is corrupted and for that it is causing bootloops and braking things. All I can suggest to you is to reinstall a fresh install of the ROM and then try an advanced restore of your applications and data just not the Boot.img or the system.img

I have tried to use same recovery, but same result. restoring backup across different ROM does not work for me it seems. I have to have a working corresponding rom as the backup am trying to Resotre. for example if i want to restore my backup of GB ROM, i have to have a working GB Rom already on Phone. I Can't restore an ICS Rom while my Phone is On GB and vice verser.

Flashing an ftf also flashes the kernel, so restoring a GB backup when you originally installed ICS or vice versa will give you issues as CWM doesn't backup your kernel.

Thanks XperienceD for Clarifying. now i undersatnd. Just wanted to ask is it possible to flash A GB Sock Kernel on an ICS ROM or vice versa, then using the backup to restore thru CWM, as this will save time than to reflash the ftf, root it and install CWM just only to restore your backup.

This is why it's better to unlock your BL, then it's just a flash of a kernel then restoring your backup.
