phone: S3 (SGH-1747M)
provider: Rogers (Canada)
i rooted my phone and then installed Clockworkmod recovery because i wanted to install cyanogenmod 10.1. i installed a stable version because i thought it was better then the nighly version. after installing it it was stuck in boot loop so i guessed i soft bricked the phone so then i flashed the original rom and everything was working other then dropbox. so i tried to uninstall and reinstall it and after that google play store stopped working. now i dont know what to do or how to fix the problem so if anyone could help it would be awesome.

Also your boot loop could have been fixed by wiping cache and dalvik and factory resetting. For future reference.

To wipe cache, you go in to your recovery.

I have been researching all day trying to figure out how to get CM10 root to work properly. Each time I install it all of the features work fine, but I lack root access. I am able to root using the stock rom whether it be by using cwm or flashing using odin. Each time that I flash I always make sure to clear cache, do factory reset, and wipe the Dalvik cache. I have also attempted to use twrp instead of cwm, that yielded a bit different results; it would notify me when wifi was available and I had the CM updater, which I did'nt have before.
In all cases root access has been missing though. As far as I know CM had root access built in so I'm a bit confused as to what I can do. Any suggestions on what to do would be great, and if you need more information feel free to ask.
Thank you,
SqueakyP
Have you tried updating the binary for super user/super su?

Yes, I have the latest superuser, also tried getting the latest supersu. I only used one manager at a time. Both of them were unable to update the su binary due to lacking root access.
I am also unable to use the "su" command in terminal due to access being denied
Stop doing a factory reset. It's why you are losing root

So I should just flash the rom without doing factory reset beforehand?
root the phone.
Which should give you clockwork.
Install Rom manager.
Download the latest cm10 nightly
Flash.

You've already made your phone compatible with cm10 by factory resetting once.
But the order you are trying to do things in is stealing your root access.

When installing using rom manager should I leave "wipe data & cache" checked or unchecked?
No. but you may need to boot into recovery and manually wipe the cache and davlik cache. I believe wipe data does a factory reset.
...I would download the zip file from get.cm and install it from recovery rather than from clockwork in Android as I've had MUCH better success installing ROM's that way but that's me...
It's a miracle! I installed cm10 using rom manager and left the wipe data and cache box unchecked. Then when it tried to boot it would stay at the boot logo, left it for about 10 min. Then I cleared only the cache; got the same results. Then I used the wipe data/factory reset option cwm recovery, flashed cm10, and then gapps. After that it booted up and surprisingly enough it was rooted.
Since the rooting was successfully done even though I wiped the data prior to install there are only a few possibilities as to why this happened:
I had the wrong zip to flash (I obtained it from the official posting for the sgh-t999 todays nightly build)
I was using the wrong cwm recovery (T-mobile S3 touch cwm obtained via cwm website)
Or I just needed to flash twice with wipes in-between to ensure that no files were left over from the stock rom.
Either way, it's working now and I'm glad, thanks for the help c:

Yeah, I much prefer doing it manually only using CWM recovery, I used to use it on my triumph, so all the problems I was having blew me away.
Hi,
I tried to flash CyanogenMod today from JellyBellyv3.
It originally worked, but it wouldn't sync my google contacts, wouldn't let me open the play store or gmail app, so I decided to reformat.
Now nothing of mine is on the phone, play store isn't available even and it won't let me sync whatsoever.
What the hell did I do and how do I fix this? XD

Did you wipe data before flashing CM10? It's best to wipe data when changing to a different rom.
Steps are:
1) wipe data
2) Flash ROM
3) Flash Gapps
4) Reboot
EDIT: Also make sure you are flashing the 20121110 gapps if you are running CM10 with 4.1.2
Wipe all data from CWM?
Question being, if I entirely reformat, will CWM still be there?
I had downloaded the wrong gapps, I'm gonna try using the right one now.

No, Wipe data will just wipe any of the ROM data
Also wipe cache then advanced/wipe davik cache
Everything will still be on your sdcard

whenever you change roms, you need to wipe data/cache otherwise you might up with similar problems again.
hi guys heres my problem i would really aprecciate it ... i find some realtive threads but mostly related to problems reading the sd cards.. i have a samsung galaxy s2 SGH-T989D and i liked to try many custom roms on it, the last time i flashed a rom i did it with the AOKP and everthing was going well but i didnt like to much so i try a new one (CM10), i used to do it with the CWM 6.0 and there was no problem but this time i flash de CM10 but it gets stuck in the logo, then i made the wipe data/cache and the dalvik and try to install it again but this time the phone dont show anything just the S2 logo, and when i try to install a different ROM it just said "installing THE ROM " but gets frozen there, i tried with different ROMs but i have always the same problem. Thank you.

So I flashed a zip meant for the international gs3 on my Sprint gs3. Now my phone is in a boot loop. Is there a way to save my application data and messages, either thru CWM or with a computer before doing a factory reset?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Do a nandroid backup in your custom recovery before you wipe. Even tho it wont boot you can manually pull the stuff you want from it later after you get back up. You can also pull stuff you want WHILE its bootlooping if you know how to use adb
---------- Post added at 05:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:53 PM ----------
EDIT: after reading your post a factory reset wont help you as you are most likely bootlooping because of system changes. Reflash your current rom WITHOUT wiping and it should fix you and not wipe anything
Im already doing nandroid backup. Im going to try to flash the Rom without wiping anything. I don't know how to use ADB, but I don't think I could use it anyway since the phone plays the boot animation, then says updating android, then goes back to the boot animation.
So if reflashing the Rom doesn't work, how do I pull the data, like message and application data, from nandroid backup.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Format system and flash a sprint rom. Dont bother clearing data. But if you have a backup you should be able to restore just data.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Wow, WTF?!?!? I tried to restore tge backup and now I'm getting a MD5 mismatch. I googled it but the only thing that keeps coming up on how to fix it is something ADB. do you guys kmow how to fix the mismatch any other way???
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I believe roottoolbox has that feature. You dont have to fix the md5 to pull stuff from the backup. Just dl appextractor from the playstore and that should pull what you want from it

What I did, was restored version before this release, dirty flashed the new, and bam, it all started working, btw this problem is happening randomly on all of the multi-carrier roms for some reason. Can anyone en-light us on this issue?
Im not using this rom anymore but had it a few days ago. What I did to get it working was simply flash the fix then let sit for like 3-4 minutes after firat boot before it starts working. If it still doesnt work then do reboot (not quick restart) and that should get it working fine.
