[Q] No option for usb(mtp or ptp) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

When I plugin the S3 (Sprint non rooted) I no longer get the option for mtp or ptp. I suspect it may have happened after updating to 4.1.2. Ive tried multiple pcs and usb cables. To make it even worse, it works on my note 2 for sprint. Any help is something

I don't have my phone hooked up to my computer at the moment, so this might be a little vague.
I've had this happen a number of times. Plug your phone into the computer via USB and go into the Windows Device Manager (assuming you're running Windows) and uninstall the driver for your phone. Look for something like "Samsung Android Phone" or something like that.
If there is an option to delete the driver DO NOT delete it, since we want don't want to remove it from the computer.
After it's uninstalled, unplug your phone from USB and then plug it in again. Windows should do its automatic driver thing, and hopefully you'll be back in business.
Hopefully this helps. Good luck!

Also make sure you turn usb debugging off prior to connecting the phone.

If you have drivers installed and is still not working go to your dialer and do ##diag# click cdma then use setting make sure it's set to mtp + adb

GNex not recognized in Windows 7

I need help getting my Windows 7 x64 to recognize my GNex.
Whenever I plug it in I dont hear the default USB plug-in sound (Windows), but my phone is charging.
I cannot mount my storage either in recovery or inside Android.
My device manager is not showing errors and my GNex at all.
Tried installing the Google USB Driver from SDK, no luck
Tried PDANet which did not install because of missing drivers.
Use a program called usbdeview and uninstall the drivers you have installed for the Gnex. Then use the galaxy nexus toolkit to install the correct ones.
You dont by chance have the "fast charge" mod enabled through your kerenel do you? Because if so you will need to disable the feature first before plugging up to you Windows machine.
This is starting to become an "epidemic".. :O
I can almost guarantee that it's usb fast charge, devs should really put a warning on that

I too have a Win7 x64 laptop and had a similar issue, but the Device Manager did report an error with the Android 1.0 and/or Samsung driver. I had to manually update driver for it to work thru Device Manager.
Woops. Well there are some ways to check what is disturbing the connection. Let's start at the beginning:
Check if your phone is configured to interact with your computer. After conneting your phone you should get a selection list in your phones notification bar. Make sure to select usb storrage from that list.
On your windows computer go to [start] and type "device manager". After the application (that shows all hardware devices connected to the system) loaded connect your phone and check if something changes. If everything works all right you should get your nexus. If a question mark apears double click it to check the problem.
Try yo connect your device to another computer or with another cable. If the problem is not solved by above steps contact your seller.
If this is not possible install Airdroid and connect your phone to your computers browser or ES file Explorer to browse your pc over the network

Ok, I'm having this issue, but Windows doesn't even recognize anything is plugged in! I tried it on a TON of computers at work with several different USB cables. Nothing! All I get is charging, but no options in the top menu or anything. Is this a toasted Nexus? I just got it, now I can't even transfer files to its storage. I've been transferring files through dropbox...which is annoying...if it is USB Fastcharge, how do I disable it?
Their IS a fix for this, but we need the code to get into the PhoneUtil menu and turn USB back on.
It's an issue with Samsung phones apparently, and here's a fix someone found a while ago.
http://blog.vacs.fr/index.php?post/...ot-detected-problem-on-Android-Samsung-phones
We just need the PhoneUtil code for the Galaxy Nexus and we should be all set.
Check your drivers

What annoys me is that when I got the phone it was already rooted and I didn't have a chance to try it stock or back up the original. It was rooted with an older version, so I flashed 4.0.4 on it. Check out the reviews on newegg I'm not alone in reporting a messed with Galaxy Nexus.

My issue is definitely hardware. I sent my GNex back and they sent me back a new one which I received yesterday. I checked and this one wasn't previously rooted or Unlocked. It worked for a day (worked as in windows saw it and I could xfer music/books/comics to it) after I get home from work Windows stopped recognizing it. I did NOTHING to the phone, it just stopped being seen by windows. I only used the cable that came with it and charged it the night before using the supplied adapter, but the USB still stopped working. Last resort I did a system restore to the phone and the USB still doesn't show up in anything ,Tried 5 of my Windows PC's A bunch of PC's at work, my friends Mac, my Ubuntu powered Netbook, my Xbox360 and PS3, even the Transformer Prime using the keyboard dock. This is telling me it's a hardware issue with the Device. Might be somthing wrong with the latest batch of GNex's but the USB seems to give out. Even if I put the phone in ODIN mode NOTHING recognizes it. So, before you all waste your time finding a fix, this is 100% absolutly a hardware issue with these phones, I don't know why, but I had Two bad ones in a row, and am Hoping my 3rd isn't borked too.
I have a bad history with Android phones....My first Nexus One wouldn't stay on, so I got a replacement from HTC. My first two G2x's would constantly reboot, It wasn't until the 3rd one that I got a working one. Now I'm hoping I don't have to go through 4 bad Galaxy Nexus' before getting one that actually works!
I have the opposite luck with tablets....the Novo7, Iconia A100 and Transformer Prime have been perfect outa box. This ordeal with android phones makes me seriously consider exchanging the GNex for an iPhone4s....but the iPhone4s screen is SOOOOO tiny!!!

Installed the Samsung drivers onto laptop, but, when I connect phone it only charges. No screen asking about USB storage like normal & nor does my laptop even register the device being plugged in. I'm running Windows 7 on an Asus x401a & downloaded drivers from Samsung & installed. When I connect, nothing happens. I checked & rechecked USB debugging, just in case, mock locations, and powercycled and still nothing. If anyone couldplease let me know how to fix, I'd really appreciate. Thanks![sSIZE]

Ok cool, just wanted to make sure you had the right ones.
It this a clean Win7 (x32? Or x64) install? Or is it a OEM install?
What model laptop? The more info you give us the ezer it will be to try & help.
Any other USB devices have ANY problems? I'm mainly talking about USB devices that need drivers, not a flash drive or hdd

Computer not recognizing Note 2

Has anyone had a problem with this? The only way for me is to go into recovery and mount it. It's connected as a media device.
Thanks in advance!

Sounds silly, but did you try rebooting your computer? I had to do this the other day when mine wasn't recognizing my phone. Rebooted computer, worked fine after.
Samung's drivers are awful. I had to install, reboot, remove, reboot ad nauseum until I finally got the drivers to work. I also found I had to connect the phone then wait a few minutes before the computer would acknowledge the phone.
specteA 187,
I've only ever had the issue if I've tried USB ports on the front of my machine. For some reason those ports can be a bit flaky.
Plugging USB into the back of my machine causes no issues. Weird.
For me, on Windows 8, I have to switch from MTP to PTP, and then back to MTP for it to mount. It sure is wonky.

Yup I tried everything. The only way that works perfectly is to mount the drives via recovery.

I found that if my computer doesn't recognize my phone, I put my phone into download mode then reboot back to normal and the computer will recognize it. Kind of a pain to have to reboot 2x but seems to work for me.
I've had 5 Samsung smartphones (Captivate, Infuse, GS2, SkyrocketGS2, and now the SGNote2) andI use an XPSP3 desktop computer and have never had any issues with computer recognizing phone until the Note2. Odin3 works like a champ on the Note2... it's the plug-n-play recognition for transferring files back and forth that's problematic. Yes, I've uninstalled/reinstalled drivers, Kies, etc, used back ports vs front port... I think it has to do with the MTP file transfer protocol now used. Here's what works for me with the Note2 and the PC:
Connect phone to PC... phone's "USB PC Connection" box opens and you have 2 options: MTP(media/files) or PTP (camera). If PC doesn't immediately recognize device, I do one of two things which always works:
1. toggle between MTP and PTP a few times... if that doesn't work,
2. unplug usb from PC port and reinsert (either same port or another)
Windows Explorer will then recognize device and add "SAMSUNG-SGH-I317" under "My Computer" and list it under "Other" devices in panel.
I had this same problem today on my new N2. Drivers would not install. All I wanted to do was to drag my pics and music onto my SD card. I worked around this of course by removing the SD card from the Note and putting it in the adapter and doing it that way. I still haven't gotten my drivers to install. I may just get the drivers off the Internet
+1, my ONLY complaint about this phone.
I gave up trying to find a fix after installing/un-installing/re-installing drivers/kies/odin3 about a bazillion times and only getting it to work a random few times.
Not even worth the effort...

Thanks, Should've mentioned that I've tried all of the above methods. It may be that, since I work on so many Android devices, my pc is just too full of incompatible drivers and I've yet to clear them properly. Even If i did I'm fairly certain that I'll be working on more devices and will screw it up all over again. My network is pretty quick and Dropbox/esFile Explorer is convenient so I really shouldn't complain.

[Q] My Nexus doesn't connect to the PC? Help?

Just came back from holiday so I've got some pictures to store on my computer, but I can't get my phone to connect to it. It charges fine when connected which is also bemusing, since it can't do anything else. It's definitely not my computer's problem as I've tried other computers to no avail. I've been looking around the internet but none of the solutions worked for me.
My Nexus is rooted with stock ROM on 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and hasn't had many other problems in it's lifetime, although sometimes when I go into the Gallery app it will tell me "No external storage available" and I cannot use it until I restart the phone, where the problem diminishes and reappears after a few days. I was wondering if these problems were linked in any way perhaps?
Thanks for any input guys, would really appreciate it

You tried a different USB cable? Just a thought...
Is USB fast charge enabled?
I had the same problem - turns out it wouldn't connect on my PC's front USB ports, but does work on the rear ones.
first be sure that fast charging is disabled, second try other usb port if not try other usb cable if not try another computer, if not...i dont know!

That cannot be the issue. I did not have USB debugging enabled but I was still able to transfer the files. But, you can try re-installing the Google USB Driver or Samsung Driver for I9250 or was it I515?
Cheers
Check on computer that device is showing in devices and has correct drivers installed. If not samsung official manuals and downloads website (google it) has a driver pack (approx 30mb) which when installed should have every samsung driver you could need, download and run then reboot computer and plug in phone, all drivers needed should now install correctly.
Also check in usb options when first connected that mtp is checked so storage is visible to computer. Best of luck and if all else fails pc out of window sounds like fun
P.S. try flashing latest gapps to fix gallery issue, after dalvik and cache wipe, may solve gallery issue...

Note 4 developer version not connecting to PC as drive

I have a rooted Note 4 developer device and when I connect it to my PC it does not appear as a drive. I'm using the USB charging cable that came with the phone. If I connect with my Note 2, that works, but not the Note 4. I was able to use Odin to flash TWRP so the PC saw the phone and used it correctly. When I click on the USB safely remove hardware and eject media icon in my taskbar, I get an Eject Samsung Media option, so it sees the phone. Maybe my modem is set to an alternative mode? I have no idea how to change that.
The SD card works, and if I want to copy files to and from that I remove it from the phone and put it in a card reader and transfer files that way. When I check the drivers in device manager on the PC everything looks like it's working fine, no yellow triangles with an exclamation mark. I have USB debugging turned on. Maybe it's a setting in TWRP? I am completely baffled and would greatly appreciate any ideas or solutions. And yes, I've turned the phone off and on again...

I've had this problem before and I uninstalled the Samsung drivers and reinstalled them. Drivers can be "finicky" on some versions of Windows. Make sure you get the latest drivers from the Samsung web site, not another download site. I'm sure you know this, but make sure USB Debugging is selected and you connect as a Media Device under USB connection settings. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your suggestion, JPCalhoun. I reinstalled the drivers, but still no luck. The computer's USB charges the phone. The PC, which is a Windows 7 64 bit machine, sees the phone as a Samnsung mobile USB CDC composite Device. On the phone, the little UBS symbol just never appears. I think it might have to do with the modem settings on the Note 4. I just have no idea on how to access them. I know on older notes you would bring up the keypad and dial in a certain number to access the phone's modem. I don't know what the number is on the Note 4. It's weird, everything else works perfectly on the phone, just not the USB settings. I'm going to try and transfer stuff wirelesslly. I transfered all my old contact information from my old Note 2 to the Note 4 wirelessly, so maybe I'm just stuck going that route.

That did the trick, Manbat. I thank you profusely! I got a Note 4 dev edition and you would think that they would have had the USB setting set to MTP+ADB. Anyway, now she's rooted and working well in my ColorCross VR headset. Running Crysis 2 in Stereo 3D with this display is mindblowing. Better resolution than a genuine Oculus Rift DK2 headset. And no tether! Good times. Thank you again, Manbat!

Yea I had that same exact problem yesterday, I am pretty sure its because they took a regular retial, unlocked the bootloader and left it in that setting. It was driving me nuts but I found it by doing some research, when I suspected the problem, i didn't know how to get into the hidden menu until I found that app man what a pain in the ass
