[Q] Cannot get phone into recovery - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having an issue getting my phone to restore. I flashed a new ROM, but it wouldn't boot up. It just sat there on a black screen for about an hour, so I pulled the battery and tried to reboot it. Now it just sits on the boot animation forever and will not boot. So I do the power + volume down to get it into recovery and that isn't working either. It goes to the right looking menu, but then it flashes really quickly something that looks like the following:
SD Checking...
Loading...[PC10DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PC10DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PC10IMG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PC10IMG.nbh]
I choose Recovery and it puts me in the CWM recovery options. No matter what i choose on that menu it just goes to a black screen with the CWM logo in the middle and won't do anything. I can't get it to boot into a ROM and I can't get it to recover my last backup and I can't flash anything new. Have I bricked the phone or is there something I'm not doing right?

Do the fastboot eraseā€“w command then re flash recovery from fastboot

It sounds like recovery is messed up, are you using trackball or power button to select?
Have you tried to fastboot flash a new recovery?

After following the rooting process in the wiki I had a similar problem...

I resolved this by deleting the PC10IMG.nbh image in the sdcard

w8 w8 w8 !!
Are you, by any chance , using the power button in CWM to use its features ?? ;
Cause as far as i know, at least in my Desire Z , Power button in CWM is for stand by - lock the phone,,,,,
Try using your track ball click to select the features/options in CWM !!
(+) the No image loading thing is normal in bootloader ..... it will show THAT error if you have deleted the PC10IMG from the root of your SD Card !!
PM me if the CWM features are working with the trackball ,, or if you want another solution !! (Chances are ill not follow this thread again )

[Q] HTC EVO Not functioning

I have messed up my phone, and not sure exactly how.
When I first got my evo in august, it came with Froyo. I tried to root it using the procedures for 2.1, not knowing that it was for 2.2. My mistake. I went through the procedures, and it never worked. Then when the rooting for 2.2 came out, i tried to do that, but it didn't work. I followed the instructions from here and followed allong with the video on youtube. When I was pushing those files using the command prompts, they all worked, but that biggest file never came through.
On Tuesday, i was able to use unrevoked 3.2 to root my evo. I know it was successful because unrevoked said done when i finished. I was able to do the wifi tether on it, plus the screen shots, and superuser was asking for permisions, so I know it was fully rooted.
Today I tried to do a rom, and I was unsuccessful from the start. The phone wont start the recovery mode.
This is what it says:
SD Checking....
Loading... [PC36DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading... [PC36DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading... [PC36IMG.zip]
And then it will go to the next screen, which says:
Parsing...[SD ZIP]
[1] BOOT
[2] BOOTLOADER
[3] MICROP
[4]RADIO_VZ
[5] RECOVERY
[6] SPLASH1
[7] SYSTEM
[8] TP
[9] TP
[10] USERDATA
[11] WIMAX
Do you want to start update?
So I've pressed yes once before. However, my phone will not move past these screens. I can select all the options, like clear storage, power down, etc. I can't go into recovery. When I do, it shows a black screen with a phone and a red triangle with an exclamation point.
I won't say that it is bricked, but I know something isn't right. Have I messed up my phone beyond repair? And if this is in the wrong place, I am starting a thread in the Q and A general forum with the exact same message.
You trying to flash a rom from the bootloader? Try doing it from recovery...
You probably never deleted/renamed the PC36IMG.zip after rooting.
Also, delete the PC36IMG.zip from your sd card. You dont need it anymore. Just download Quickboot from the market and you can boot directly into recovery instead of selecting it from the bootloader.
Looks like you forgot to delete that pc36img zip from the root of your sd card and you're just updating that same image every time. Try deleting that first or select no for the update next time you boot into recovery.

Also sounds like you may not have flashed a custom recovery yet.

No, I have not deleted the pc36img.zip file. i can't get it to cut on so i can connect it to the computer to use as a (usb) disk drive to delete it.
When I select no, i don't want to update it, it takes me back to that screen that says hboot at the top.
I also haven't flashed a custom recovery because it gets stuff on that black screen when I select recovery.
I can't use quickboot because I can't get to the phone and apps part of the phone.
If you moved past the bootloader screen and into the black screen with that cool wittle triangle then you may be able to ABD into recovery. Wipe and then flash from there. You can also remove your micro sd card and put into a sd card reader on your pc. Find and delete that pc 32 zip!

This has happened to me a couple of times, just run the PC36IMG again, let it update again, then reboot. This worked everytime

LeeDroid upgrade fail - can't get past HTC screen

I've just tried upgrading to LeeDroid 2.4.1 and have failed.
Upgrade appeared to go well until reboot, then it got stuck at the HTC screen. I have left it for 45 minutes before booting in HBOOT.
When I boot into HBOOT I get the following message:
HBOOT

If I go to recovery mode I get the red ! screen.
HBOOT details are:

Phone is rooted.
Please help me recover my phone.
Try to flash a new recovery with adb:
http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-flash-new-recovery-image-with-adb-windows-pc-411005/
When finished, try to flash leedroid again:
Do a full wipe and flash as normal
Another idea i have is factory reset:
1.) Turn off your phone
2.) Press and hold the volume down button and then the same with the power button
3.) Wait for the screen with the 3 android images to appear, and then release the buttons
4.) Navigate with volume button to "clear storage"
5.) Enter with power-button
No warranty for any damage.
did you wipe before flashing new ROM?
I make that mistake more than often when hopping from ROM to ROM
Try it!
I have no idea about the red !
hi don't understand why you got a PB99DIAG.zip on your sdcard???
this is not the way it goes to flash a rom... just need a file called rom_whatevere.zip
pb99diag.zip is used to flash a rru rom (it s a way to do it)
put off from your phone your sd card and clean that file which seems to messed up your device and try with the right one you can find there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703
leedroid 2.5 final release
hope this help

Yes i always do a full wipe before flashing a rom. Unless, i just want to update my current rom. Then i would only wipe /cache and dalvik-cache. But before a full wipe, i always backup my apps and data with titanium backup. Finally, i do a complete nandroid backup, just in case.
Which "red" do you mean?
Mat... I dont think he was talking to you, hence the red thing is something topicholder was talking about.

Debranding and installing official HTC rom?

Hello,
I think I am missing a step. I followed the directions found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142529.
I follow them thoroughly and then restart my phone in bootloader mode. It then loads and checks PG76IMG.zip. After that, it doesn't do anything and goes back to the bootloader main screen.
Am I missing a step somewhere?
Elliot
Somebody heeeeeelp me.
I create my goldcard, put rom.zip on the goldcard, rename it. I turn my phone off, power it up in bootloader mode.
It then says:
SD Checking...
Loading...[PG76DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PG76DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PG76IMG.zip]
From here it loads, then switches to "Checking...[PG76IMG.zip]". After this finishes, it just goes back to the main bootloader screen.
What am I doing wrong? Pleeeease help meeeee.
Hi,
I had a similar problem with booting WM OS. Finaly that was because of 16gb micro SD. when I used smaller SD card, than it works good. And maybe it late to answer..

I have just same issue with a 2 GB memory card, But I can not figure it out yet!
I think it refer to rom version on you WS and rom version you try to install!

Think shes bricked ?

Yeah I'm pretty sure I flashed the wrong ruu. She just hangs on the splash screen when booting the phone and booting into recovery. When I try to flash the right ruu it just says plug in phone. The phone is s-off with revolutionary.
Just one more thing it does when I hold down the vol. down and the power to start hboot it comes up with this
SD Checking...
Loading...[PB99DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PB99DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!

So what i want know is there hope or should I just see how far I can skim it across a lake?
You can try to put a PB99IMG.zip on the root of you SD card and it should do the flash automatic.
Search here in XDA for a correct PB99IMG.zip (there are many but i have not much time now to look for a link).
I don't think you have bricked Desire. Normaly this way should work.

I believe there is hope since you can still go fastboot. I suggest that you delete that file on ur sd card that it tries to install though.
As far as what to do next, I can't give you a confident answer.
Ignore me, I'm a n00b.
steini81 you are a dead set champ
I had to get the rom.zip file from the right ruu and rename it pb99img.zip and put it on my sd card and it flash that way...
thanks for pointing me in the right direction
if you were S-OFF why didn't you just flash a new recovery?
I tried and it just stayed on wait for device

that is not a bug,you can get to recovery, just go to recovery option using volume buttons and hit the power button.
there it should read your sd card.

exactly. And if you're curious: it's just a check if a PCIMG49 file is there containing an update (could be used e.g. for flashing splash screens or recoveries)
I can access recovery but when I try to do backup or install zip from sdcard, nothing happens except a black screen and then I've to remove the battery to restart the phone and the same happens again and again....

just an essential thing to be aware of:
After boot:
Choose menu item with vol up/down keys
Select item with power button
In clockworkmod recovery:
Choose menu item with vol up/down keys or trackball
Select item by *pressing trackball button* (power button just turns off screen here)
Swyped from my HTC Wildfire (Buzz)
My bad..... I used to hit the power button to choose items....
